Include item name in index of interactive pdf?

I am converting a 50+ page product catalog from print to interactive  It has a 3-page index with product names and page numbers.
Currently,  only the page numbers are interactive. How do I make each line (product name and page number), clickable?.
Do I have to create a text anchor hyperlink for each item? There are 35 pages containing product information - do I create a shared achor for each page and link the items to the shared anchors?

  • Headings follow relevant chapter names? Index link to pdf search engine?

I´m new to Pages 09 and haven´t found how to have the page heading contain only the relevant chapter name. I´ve got 8 chapters and want the relevant name at the top of each page, as one usually finds. How is it done?
Can one automatically link the alphabetical word index to the internal pdf search engine when exported as pdf file or does one have to do this by hand?
Thanks for any help in these matters
    Neil

    Cut your document in sections.
Insert your chapters in different sections.
Doing that you will be able to use the chapter name in the corresponding header.
In page 58 of the User Guide (English version) we may read:
*Changing Headers and Footers in a Section*
You can change headers and footers to be unique to a section. You can also change headers and footers within a section.
    To change headers and footers:
1 Place the insertion point in the section.
2 Click Inspector in the toolbar, click the Layout button, and then click Section.
3 Deselect “Use previous headers and footers.”
4 Type the new header or footer in the header or footer area of your document.

  • Including item names in report column headings

I have a report where I want to use page items in the column headings. Trying to define these using (for example) &P1_ITEM. in the report definition / custom heading does not seem to work. I can define a simple PL/SQL function to return the heading, but I have many columns and it will mean that I'll have to define a function for each column name which does not seem v elegant. Am I missing something obvious?
    Thanks Simon

    Hi Simon

  • Interactive pdf documents

we have an assignment for class to find 3 examples of interactive pdf documents on the web everytime i put the info in it comes up with how to do it or create it i just need 3 links to show examples in class please somebody tell me how to search for this

You should specify what you understand with interactive PDF and should include it into the search, as interactive PDF can mean a lot of things. All interactive PDFs are supposed to be viewed on screen, are in RGB (most in sRGB color space) and should be tagged, but further, interactivity could mean:
Simple full screen PDFs, clicking forces next slide. Probably with page transition set up.
PDFs with buttons to turn on of specific fields or layers.
    PDF forms
Simple PDFs which allow users to comment.
PDFs which embed media of any kind
PDFs which have links to the net or to other PDFs
Web pages converted to PDF with Acrobat's  Web Capture

  • In InDesign, how can I name individual cells in a table for interactive PDFs?

Hi, I'm creating interactive PDFs for a client that include tables with empty cells that will be populated afterwards (depending on what information a customer puts in on a form).
The forms are created in InDesign and exported as interactive PDFs, but I need to be able to name the live fields (in InDesign) before I export the Interactive PDF, so that I don't have to select each indivual field in the final PDF and rename them.
The reason I want to be able to do this pre-PDF production, is because the forms will be rebranded over and over again and I don't want to have to rename hundreds of cells time and time again in Acrobat Pro.
The deveopler who's populating the cells already has predefined names for them, so I can's simply give him the names that Acrobat automatically defines.

What version of InDesign are you using? If CS6 or CC, you can add fields and enter a name for each in the Name field of the Buttons and Forms panel.

  • Indexing and Searching pdf files which are used as attachment in an Announcemnet list item

    Hi all,
I am using a SharePoint 2013 online environment and trying to search and find pdf files which are attached to a announcement list item. However it does not find anything when I search for the name of the pdf file or the content of the pdf file.
When I attach a word to the list item it gets indexed and it find the file.
thanks and appreciate every kind of advice.

Are you able to search for pdfs in other locations? SharePoint 2013 comes with an iFilter out of the box unlike 2010 which needed configuration.

  • Sending Interactive PDF through mail - as INLINE item

    Hi All,
I have a requirement, wherein I have to send an Interactive PDF form through mail, as INLINE (i.e. displayed in the body of the message item),and not as ATTACHMENT.
i.e. The Interactive PDF content should be seen in the body page of the mail itself.
I have to send the PDF from a java application. I was able to do it with an image(as INLINE) using the HTML tag <img>.
For PDF, I tried using the HTML tags <iframe> and <embed>. i even tried javascript embeded within HTML code. But no use.
IMPORTANT : Please note that, it is an Interactive PDF form, there will be editable Input fields in the PDF file.
Any one please help me to solve this....
    Thanks,
    Prabhakar.

You can set the main content of your message to be the PDF content with MIME
type application/pdf, but I doubt that you can convince most mailers to display this
content as you intend. As far as I know, this is not a commonly supported feature.
If you can use some other program to create a message that displays the way you
want, you can copy the structure of that message with your JavaMail program.

  • Button problems when including a video. (interactive PDF)

I am having issues when exporting my interactive PDF from In-design. On a specific page with a video included, the buttons with actions to next and previous page do not seem transition to the next page like they do throughout the rest of the PDF. It barely responds at all, if I click it over and over it sometimes goes to the next page but its not a smooth transition. I am using the latest adobe acrobat pro to view the PDF. If anyone has an answer to this problem it was be a massive help.
    Cheers
    Kyle

There´s something you can do, but you will need Acrobat for that.
That dotted line is a preference element called Focus Rectangle, you can hide it manually in Preferences > Forms > Show Focus Rectangle (Uncheck) or you can add one line of javascript to document level or for instance page 1 (if you change it in your preferences, only you will see the effect naturally), so javascript method is probably better in your case.
If you want to add that javasctript to page 1, simply open thumbnails panel, select page 1 thumb and choose Page Properties from panel menu. Go to Actions tab and choose Run Javascript and click Add. Then paste....
    app.focusRect = false;
....to Javascript editor and click OK (few times, until you are back in page view). No your user will run that javascript command everytime he/she opens the page 1 and hides that dotted Focus Rectangle....

  • Interactive PDFs now include sound and video

    Hi Romans,
We've noticed a few of you have been interested in including sound and video within interactive PDFs. I'm happy to say that the development team has heard your concerns and this has been added to the most recent update.
So, after updating the application, try this feature out and tell us what you think! Any issues or thoughts to share while using this feature?
    Thanks for the continued feedback,

  • Interactive pdf bookmarks

I have posted this on another forum. I would love to know if anyone has an answer. Even no would be acceptable.
Has  anyone noticed when using the Book function and creating  Bookmarks  using the Interactive PDF maker, that the Bookmarks look for  the  individual document PDF as a reference. Does anyone know a work  around  for this please. Works fine with the print PDF, but then the  other  interactivity doesn't work.
I have trialled this on a mac and pc and it works the same on both platforms.

I think you might be right in that there is something not quite right with Links/Bookmark handling in InDesign CS5 when working with the ToC generated Links/Bookmarks and the Book feature in conjunction with Export to Adobe PDF (Interactive) option.
    I've just tried the following:
Created 3 InDesign documents, added them to a New InDesign Book
ToC Style in the first doc, that has Create PDF Bookmarks AND Include Book Documents enabled
Then generated the ToC in the first document, and checked the Bookmarks panel to verify that the ToC generation created working bookmarks (they work, when you double click them the jump to the correct page).
Then choose Export Book to PDF from the Book panel menu and select Adobe PDF (Interactive).
The resulting PDF generates links on the ToC page, that don't work, and the generated Bookmarks in the Bookmark pane in Adobe Acrobat / Adobe Reader don't seem to work either.
I've tested it in the CS5 7.0.2, and submitted it as a possible bug to Adobe via https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • Interactive PDF on IPad app created with Digital Publishing Suite

Can someone tell me why I can create an Interactive PDF in InDesign, send it to Adobe Forms but not be able to have an Interactive PDF form on an IPad App built with InDesign? Is having an Interactive (by that I mean, adding a name and address and answering questions in the form of text and checkboxes and submitting) form on an IPad at all possible using InDesign? Aaarrrrgggghhh!
    Barb

I have a 5 part questionnaire which is included in an IPad app built with InDesign. The recipients of the questionnaire answer the questions, add their name etc. They will visit this questionnaire on a monthly basis for 6 months, and each month a copy of the questionnaire is to be submitted to 3 different people. The responses of the questionnaire will need to be maintained for editing and updating each month.

  • Buttons don't work: InDesign CS& interactive PDF

Hi, i'm creating an interactive PDF book in InDesign CS6, it's a simple plain text + images book
I added some buttons on the first page that work as a table of contents (each button redirects you to a diferent page).
And one at the bottom of the master page I'm using (so you can see it on every page of the document) that sends you back to that table of contents.
They are simple objects converted to buttons, with the option "go to destination" active and with a certain Hyperlink Destination asigned each.
The first time I exported the document they all worked perfectly, but then after I made some minor changes to the document and exported it again, they didn't work. The curious thing is that I have 2 more buttons at both sides of the page that have the "Go to next/previous page" that ARE working. So my guess is that it has something to do with the Destination option or the destinations themselves.
Here I explain how I did it:
    1. Went to the page I wanted the destination.
    2. Click on the Hyperlinks menu then "New Hyperlink Destination"
    3. Added its name and clicked OK.
    - Did the same with every page I wanted in my index -
    4. Went to the page designed to the table of contents.
    5. Created a text box with the Type Tool.
    6. Converted it to a button in the Buttons and Forms panel.
    7. Added a "Go to Destination" action to it.
    8. Selected its respective Hyperlink Destination i made before.
    - Did the same with every other button of the table of contents and that one at the bottom of the page that takes you to it -
    9. Exported the document as an (Interactive) PDF.
And that's it. The 2 buttons that have the "Go to Next/Previous page" action work, but the ones that have the "Go to Destination" action don't. There are no layers, there are no other objects stacking over them nor behind, just the buttons against the background.
I tried with Bookmarks instead of Hyperlink Destinations, but didn't work.
I tried making them Hyperlinks directly with the Right Click menu then, Interactive option, then "New Hyperlink" and selecting the page I wanted them to go, but hey didn't work either.
And to make a classic table of contents from the Layout menu, wouldn't make much difference because I still have that one button that takes you to that page where I have my table of contents, and it will be still not working.
Can anyone help me? Has anyone had the same problem?
    Thank you!

Exactly the same thing I am experiencing. Can someone please help?

  • Interactive PDF crashes Acrobat 9

Has anyone experienced interactive PDFs causing Acrobat 9 to crash? The PDF was created using the Interactive PDF preset in InDesign CS5. The file contains buttons, SWF animations, and videos. The file is about 300MB, mostly from the embedded videos.
The PDF file opens without incident on most of our machines. On about half of the machines, Acrobat 9 crashes when opening the file. The error in the event log refers to an error in drvdx9.x3d.
    OS: Windows XP SP3
    Acrobat version: 9.0, 9.2, 9.4.1
The troubleshooting steps we have already tried include
updated chipset/display drivers on Rick’s laptop
copied the drvdx9.x3d file from my machine to his
    updated DirectX
    uninstalled/reinstalled/patched Acrobat
    disabled hardware acceleration in Flash

I have checked and unchecked every single option in the preferences just to see what the result would be.
When comparing the preferences of PDFmaker 8 and PDFmaker 9 the differences are pretty obvious.
PDFmaker 8 will have 1 option more then PDFmaker 9. Its that option that will make the links in the index work.
I dont think posting screendumps will work, since our system is dutch and everything will be in dutch.
We have AA9.3, we always keep things updated.
Repairing Acrobat wont solve it. We only have 1 workstation with AA8 and its that station that has this option. All other AA9.x station dont.
I dont believe the option is removed completely, but probably moved to some other place to be checked or unchecked. I just dont know where..
    Any more suggestions are welcome!

    Martijn van der Graaf

  • Interactive PDF Question

    Hi all,
I'm trying to create an interactive pdf using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro
I'm trying to create either through buttons or a drop down list, items when selected reveal other information.
If I use sandwiches as an example, I want the pdf to display the sandwich names like this
    Egg Mayo
    Tuna Sweetcorn
    Cheese & Onion
I want it to be that when you click on the sandwich option a text field appears which shows the nutritionanl information etc for that sandwich.
I know you can do it with the show/hide option but this way you have to leave a lot of blank space and does not look very professional for the end user.
    Any suggestions?

If you mean that you want to "re-flow" the document when a selection is
made, it's not possible, unless the entire contents of the file is located
in form fields. The other option is to create a dynamic form using
LiveCycle Designer, but that's a whole other story.

  • Text hyperlinks for interactive pdf (In Template)

I have an interactive pdf - created links to individual pages using an index at the top with the list of page numbers...
I successfully linked the numbers to their respective pages, but when I export, the hyperlinks only work on the first page. All other pages using the template have the same list of page numbers at top, but don't link to the pages (only the first page in the document works)...
Is there another way - I found that if I don't use the template - I can individually paste the same list of page numbers on each page - but that kind of defeats the purpose of a template...
FYI, I'm using the hyperlink tool - not the button tool... would that matter?
Thanks for any assistance - very frustrating as its a 250 page document with several subsections... would be great to be able to use the template...
    Jesse

Just to be clear (and very brief) about the Interactive Forms Workflow:
You create the initial form in InDesign CS6/CC, (you can use any text for the form labels), you then add the fields by drawing rectangles, and convert them to a Text field using the Buttons and Forms panel (label each field with a unique name). You then export the InDesign form as an Interactive PDF and after it's created open it in Acrobat Pro. In Acrobat you use Forms > Edit to view the fields. You click on a field and it opens the Text Fields Property panel, here you can change the default (Times) font that appears in the field to say Helvetica (you must use a font that’s on everyone’s computer). In this panel you can also change the size, alignment  and colour of the font plus there's a number of other options. You then close the form editing mode. You can test the form and subsequently distribute it. To ensure users can not only add data but save it, you need to save the form in a special way: Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools. Make sure you keep a copy of the original form as after this stage you can’t alter it. I suggest you try it out on a couple of simple practice forms before you work on your actual job.
There are lots of other things you can add to forms such as drop down lists, combo boxes, radio buttons, print and email buttons.
