Include related messages = include Trash?

Is there a way to make Mail show messages from the Trash when "include related messages" is turned on?
If I have trashed a message and receive a later reply from that conversation, Mail won't show me the previous message.
Thanks!

  • Smart Mailbox ignoring NOT unchecked box to include messages from Trash

I just created a new Smart Mailbox in Lion's Mail.  Despite NOT checking the box to include messages from Trash, messages from Trash are included AND I DON'T WANT THEM TO BE.  Any ideas?
    Anyone else with similar results?

The proposed solution appears to work great only in the following scenario:
Include emails from X and exclude the trash mailbox, and the conditions are set to ALL.   (Contain messages that match ALL of the following conditions.)
Does anyone have a solution for when you want your smart mailbox to include emails from more than 1 email address and still exclude trash?   If you select ANY, it will pull up all emails not in trash from any recipeint, not just the 2 you are seeking to include.
Or, is there a 3rd party app out there that allows for multiple conditions like rules allow in Mail?  (i.e. include any messages from any of these 5 email addresses as long as they aren't in the gmail spam folder).

  • How to include trash as favorite in finder window

Is there an easy way to include "trash" as one of the favorites in a finder window? (If the answer includes using Terminal, then to me that="no")

Do you mean add it to the Sidebar?
In the Finder, first set a window to column view mode (Command-3), then press Shift-Command-G (the shortcut for Go -> Go to Folder). In the drop-down sheet that appears, enter ~/.Trash and press Return. This will open a window showing the contents of your user’s trash can. then Control-Command-T (the shortcut for File > Add to Sidebar).

It is possible it just hasn' updated yet.
    Try resetting:
Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

  • Mail's "Hide Related Messages" doesn't stick?

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and am now running into an issue that I haven't found any information on.
In Mail I often open up an email into a new window if I'll be referring to it often. With Mountain Lion it defaults this to the "Show Related Messages" view with that white message over the OSX grey background and all the related emails threaded below it. I don't want this. I go up to View -> "Hide Related Messages" and it goes away.... only to return when I restart Mail, restart my computer, log out/in, or even sometimes when I come back from screensaver or the dashboard. I can't for the life of me get this "Hide Related Messages" setting to stick.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

Try Mail Preferences/Viewing/Include related messages (uncheck that box). I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and had roughly the same problem which I fixed this way. I prefer to have that as an icon on my toolbar, which you can add by going to the View menu, Customize toolbar, and drag the "show related messages" icon to the toolbar.

  • I want my Mail to not make a thread out of all related messages into one. I hate it.

With my new Mac came the new Mail. Now I hate it. It puts everything on to a single thread of messages. And if you open the thread and there is more that one unread message, you can probably skip one of the unread.
I exactly what happens in GMail.
Does somebody know how to undo this?
    Thanks.

    Open Preferences for Mail
    Open Viewing
    Deselect Include related messages

  • Show related messages?

A small thing but... I like the view when you click on an email it shows the related messages in the thread below in SEPARATE boxes - not all in the same box.
After clicking on an email, if I select 'show relates messages' in the View menu it shows this.
If I go into Preferences and tick 'Include Related Messages' I would assume it sets this view for all emails - but it doesn't.
I still see the related messages below but they are not in separate boxes.
Is there a way to set this view permanently for all emails?
    thanks
    Pete

    JPeters86,
apparently you didn’t read the first paragraph of my message:
Both computers have the “include related messages” setting enabled in the preferences of Mail.app
So, thanks for trying, but of course I’m already aware of that.
    Ángel.

  • After you delete individual text messages, the trash can will disappear and you can only DELETE ALL or cancel! It will come back after awhile but you can't delete everything you want to in one shot!

AAfter you delete several individual text messages, your trash can will disappear, and then you'll only have the option to delete all or cancel

And the message remains after a hard reset?

  • Cannot delete message from Trash

    Hi
I have more than 10,000 deleted messages under Trash, in a folder named "on my mac".
When I try to empty that folder o just empy the whole Trash, Mail crashes due to the high volume.
I would like to delete those messages from the Finder, but I cannot find there the "on my mac" folder.
Any ideas on how to get rid of the deleted messages?
    Thank you.
    Eneko

The messages are .emlx files, but there is an index file that will still point to them unless they are deleted in mail.
    Try opening a few of the ( you say it's 60 000 now? it was 10 000 before ) messages - I hope you'll get a message saying they can't be displayed.
If you do, go to the mail menu Mail-Mailbox-Rebuild . this should re-work the index so it reflects the true number of messages.
Having said that - have you tried just deleting the mailbox, rather than trying to empty it? highlight the 'on my mac' trash mailbox & choose Mail-Mailbox-Delete.
Failing all that - I'd be tempted to move your wanted messages to various new mailboxes, ( in modest numbers per mailbox - perhaps not numbered in the 10 000's?) make a copy somewhere safe of the entire Mail folder, then force Mail to start from scratch & import your old wanted messages into mail.
To do this - after you've created your new mailboxes & moved the messages you want to keep into them; copied the Mail folder and Quit Mail
In Finder locate home/library/mail/ & trash that folder.
Then locate home/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist & move it onto the desktop, just in case things go wrong. ( I mean Move, don't leave the original file in the Preferences folder )
Open Mail again - you'll be asked for account details ( you wrote them down first?)
Just in case you get asked "do you want to import..." at this stage - Don't do it.
Then. from Mail, use Mail-File-Import Mailboxes & point it to the "mailboxes" folder inside the copy of the Mail folder you made.
Choose only the new mailboxes that you made, & moved your wanted messages to . Import them & they should all be viewable in mail.
Try the 'rebuild' or delete mailbox first though - & if any of the above isn't crystal clear - ask before you proceed.

  • What does this message mean? "185605.emix" couldn't be copied to "Messages" because an item with the same name already exists."  I am not able to move incoming email messages to Trash

How can I send messages to Trash.  I have been able to do it for two years, until this morning. Thank you.

Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox. Try to delete the message again.

  • In Apple Mail where are the message in Trash stored?

Somehow all my Trash message from March 2014 through September 2014 have been removed. In the Trash box I have Trash message going back many years prior to March 2014 and then again starting in late September 2014. Since I do backups with CrashPlan off site, if I knew where the trash was kept, I could go to Crashplan and restore them. In Crashplan I have it set to never delete any files, only to keep adding, so they should be there. I also have Presference box Move Deleted Messages to Trash mailbox checked and Store deleted messages on the server. - Godaddy is my server and it doesn't seem that Godaddy is rstoring them because the Trash box there has only a few days worth of deleted messages.  Could it be since I have checked both boxes, it is not keeping them on my computer since I also check to store on server?
    I did restore from CrashPlan

    spotlight search "trash".

  • How can I select all "Related Messages"

When I click on a message the application highlights all related messages in list view.
I like to select these highlighted messages in one shot and delete or move them. Is there an easy way to select them without going one by one and Command-click selecting them?

I have also found that if you have other emails, say in the sent folder, you can actually select (command-click) multiple mailboxes on the left pane and it mashes both mailboxes together, and then the 'conversations' have both sent and received emails in that thread.
