Included xfi sound card...fp is ac97?

in the manual it says the fp connector is ac97 compliant, however, the fp connector on my case is ac97, and it's unusable, it's undetected by the OS and there seems to be no way to enable it in the software...Is the fp connector actually  ac97? or is this a typo? Seems unlikely that it would use ac97, but perhaps my problem is something else.

The card is AC'97 compliant, but the connector for the front panel is HD Audio.
The first image is from your manual and the second is from my X38 manual. Regardless of being different sound chips, the pinouts are standard for HD Audio.

  • Can Creative confirm if DDL will be officially enabled on all XFi Sound cards at a

There's an old post in another thread which indicates that Dolby Digital Li've! would be supported on all Creative XFi sound cards - and support would be coming in August for $4.72.
Can someone from Creative comment on this? I don't think the X-Fi series Driver 2.8.0004 has this support yet.

    Hi,
See my comment on your other post.

    hi
i bought a xfi sound card today nice card ,i also bought a sharkoon headset usb , i have a problem when i turn my headset on it crashes the xfi creative mediasource got the updated dri'ves for the soundcard ,i'm stuck any help.

    lofty,
A USB headset would not be affected by the soundcard or it's drivers. I would recommend contacting the maker of the USB headset for more support and information about updated drivers.

  • XFI Sound Card Prob

When I try and run BF2 Sound with Hardware rendering set to Ultra High after a out 20min's of playing All I get is a lot of sataic. I'm using a Creative Labs XFI Fatality Pro Series Sound Card. Latest drivers ( only drivers ). It's the only game that does it & it only does it when I set BF2's sound to ultra High. I have the latest patch for the game ( .4 )
So what could be the problem ?

Sorry no one could help you. Assumming you RMA'd it, hopefully when you get a new one back it doesn't do the same thing. I've had my x-fi xtrememusic for about a year, and never really had any problems with BF2 (until I got my RMA'd ati radeon x700pro back ? ),?or BF242 for that matter. Great games, even better w/ X-fi so hope you got it fixed.

  • Connection Case audio ports to Xfi sound ca

I know most of you probably have done this or know how to do it but here goes anyways. I want to be able to connect 2 ports on the front of my case one is for speakers and one is for Microphone. Where would I connect the wires to the Xfi sound card? Can someone give me a linke to what all the open pins are for? I know this is probably a simple solution to doing this. I have never used front ports before and never had to hook them up. I have done usb ports but never sound. Another question. In doing so would I be able to use my speakers that I hook up to the back of the card and the headphone and Mic that I would hook up to the front ports at the same time? I know this would be pointless useing both headphones and speakers. I just want to make sure that if I am using my head phones that there will be no sound fromt he speakers. I like to game at night and dont want to wake my son or wife up not knowing the speakers are working along with the headphones.
    Thanks
    Josh

I'd like to know as well. I have the card, but am unable to use both speakers and mic/headset at the same time (need quick switches for avoiding wife-aggro). If there was a way to connect the card to the front audio of the case, it would save me returning it. Thanks@!

  • Enabling same Line out on my sound card (XFI Music)

3Enabling same Line out on my sound card (XFI Music) Hello all,
This must be possible! My main problem here is that I cannot find anyway to clone my main output, let me explain.
I have my digital piano plugged into Line in
I have my headphones plugged into the first Line out (these work fine)
I have my TV (plugged in via 3.5mm jack) plugged into line out 2 (the one next to the green one)
My TV is setup as a second monitor so I can watch films etc. All I want to do is get what I hear in my headphones on the television at the same time. I don't want to have to plug my TV into the green lineout everytime I want to use it.
While we're on the subject, is there anyway I can remap the inputs, at the moment if I wanted to plug in my digital piano and a mic at the same time I can't. The irony is I upgraded from my absolute rubbish Realtek AC97 onboard audio device which could do all of the above. Surely this is possible?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, I did my best searching and I couldn't find anything that matched all your descriptors. I did do a search on both decoder numbers. SB0256 returned very little results, but with SB0466, I was able to find this ebay listing:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6_fvi%3D&_rdc=
This card isn't a Champion like you suggested. And with my complete lack of knowledge, I don't know what I/O dri've bay means. But since it is PCI and the decoder matches the number you gave me, this card should be adequete, right?
Whether it works or not, my search indicated it might be very hard for me to find that card (or any PCI card for that matter). Everything I saw was out of stock. I know this is a forum for Creative, but are there any other manufacturers that will allow me to accomplish my goal, either with current cards, or discontinued cards? Thanks again
Oh, and I will vote on that thread. I probably won't wait for them to release the decoder since I need it now, but I still believe Creative should be giving the customer what they want

I am not looking for a flame war - just to honestly get some advice from others on what other solid sound cards do you know that work properly when hooking up optical inputs and such and have a wide selection of inputs like the creative xfi elite pro's breakout box. M

Ok an update. I am very persistant - was up to 4am trying to fix this and trying to go through every possible problem. That right there shows there is some serious problems with creative's software and drivers. It is suppose to be easy, not require someone who has a master's degree in computer science 2 hours to sort through the problems. It would help if there was just a clear install guide telling exactly what needs to be done - or better yet - gasp - an installer than actually did all the complicated things for you. (Creative - see Installshield and an expert consultant - they can help you. It will be worth outsourcing your efforts to get a clean view on things. I suspect the people putting these driver packages at creatives have been there a while and have lost perspecti've). It is possible to get the soundcard working to a degree on Vista. Things to realize (the following works if an only if you only have one creative product installed. Otherwise it could screw up your system):?
Make am imagine of your Windows before and after this. Before because its easy to screw things up. After because once you get it working you will never want to do it again.<
Order or find on torrent the Official Vista Install CD [do not install it yet]. Download it. Its large - or order it and pay $9 for shipping and handling. (I think they are paying a courier to hand deli'ver it and also bring me coffee since it is so expensi've). You can not get this from creative's online site. (Imagine that).<
You must uninstall manually everything that creative installs at all before going to next step.<
You must uninstall everything that is nati've audio to your system (e.g. built on the motherboard).<
There must not be other audio drivers or audio software installed.<
After you uninstall all this - make sure you also uninstall creative's drivers, any other drivers of an audio nature, and make sure you check the box that says "delete drivers" when you uninstall.<
    REBOOT<
Remove any other audio products from the system if possible. If built on a motherboard - see next step.<
Go into the BIOS. Disable anything that is audio related. Save your settings.<
    REBOOT (again).<
Go delete every registry setting that is in your registry hi've using regedit that is creative xfi related. (This can take some time because there are many sub devices, and not everything says "creative" on it.)? Good luck.<
Delete everything in your program files under creative (remember to make sure you do this as an administrator with adminstrator permissions - thanks UAC).<
Delete everything in users/[every user name here that runs on your system]/appdata/local/creative<
Delete everything in users/[every user name here that runs on your system]/roaming/creative<
[another words - delete everything you can find creative related to the xfi] - again be careful if you have more than one creative product - you could screw your system.<
Install the Official Vista CD. Install ALL the software with ALL options. Click yes to a thousands OK yes I agree to install. Make sure you install this with administrati've privliedges.<
    REBOOT (again).<
Register (why not - you did everything else)<
Update all the software that it says to update. This will take?a long time because all of the software that is on the CD is out of date. <
Alchemy will not update because you will have just updated a new set of drivers. So...<
    REBOOT (again).<
Update all of software again that it says to update. (Creatives update manager works decently).<
    Alchemy will finish installing.<
    REBOOT (again).<
Do not use control/panel/sound to adjust things - its useless<
Make sure you use the Creative XFI Volume Panel (It is not the same as the Windows Volume). Great job naming this guys... Set what you want... the sound should be working.<
NOTE:? SPDIF seems to be not available in Games (Sorry folks who run PS3 Optical through this device - your SOL - thanks Creative). To do this you must use it in Entertainment mode - but wait... SPDIF is disable by default. You must go to the mixer and enable it.<
Now with this being said - many things still won't be functional. E.g. there is no dolby through SPDIF, etc. Many of the features that were sold with this card - simply are not available in the Vista drivers. Also note that to use the latest Alchemy that is on the web site (not through the updates) you have to hunt down and find beta drivers and install those - which automatically expire later on in the year. Good jobs guys with this too... not very smart creative.<
SO there you have it. I am sure I may have missed a step - so if someone trys this and has a question - I will try to help. This is ridiculous though that someone has to go through this. A Windows service pack for the OS is easier than this. Creative get a clue - - fire some of your developers and get some that can do a decent job programming the drivers after 2 years of alpha's and betas and release - and create a decent install product. I shudder to think of the poor souls who bought more than one creative product. Good luck sorting through the directory, shared files, registry hi'ves, etc. to get your software working. If I hadn't paid a large some of money for this piece of hardware I would have never spent so much time on it. I figure even at $30 an hour - its about $400 in effort just to figure the above out, search through all the registry, hunt through the multiple directories of Vista, download the software, find out which software you have to download, etc. I am posting it here so that the average person who spent a couple hundred bucks on this card doesn't spend hundreds of dollars of time trying to get it to work on Vista.
My advice for newbies to computers - go to best buy - spend $50 for install and tell them to get it all working perfectly in your PC. Best Buy is overpriced on everything now adays anyway... they wanted $40 for a hdmi to dvi converter when you can order one online for $5. They seem to be the 7- of Electronics.
Please creative - clean up your act.

  • Want To Purchase Creative Sound card(XFi, Audigy Series) plz sugg

Hi,I want to purchase a new sound card. but i am confused with the wide range of creative products. my purpose of purchasing new sound card is music & games.please can u suggest which card i should purchase. i have creative 6. sound system. these are the list of sound card please suggest me which one to buy :-.X-Fi Elite Pro2.X-Fi Fatalty3.X-Fi Platinum4.X-Fi XtremeMusic5.Audigy 46.Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS.
I want a sound card which has digital output, so that i can upgrade my speaker later.
    ThanksManish

Audigy 2 ZS provides best cost/performance ratio. It is suitable for all modern games and delviers great gaming audio experience. X-Fi is waste of money. These card are good, yes but too expensi've and are not so powerful as Creative claims. Oh, and they come with awful software with no updates. Nevermind crappy MediaSource...
X-RAM is useless. There is not a single one evidence of claimed by Creative Labs performance gain when X-RAM is being used. Correct me with a link for any review if you like. Oh, and good luck with looking for one.Message Edited by crazyandlazy on -24-200606:29 PM

I am running Windows XP on Home PC bought 2003. The sound card is integral with the motherboard. Now the soundcard is not working. I have done tests, including headphones to output jack in the PC, no sound. No mute buttons are ticked. The speakers seem fine. So question is: can I buy a Creative sound card, and put it in the PC myself? I have Video Logic ZXR-500 5. Channel Speaker System. Motherboard info: Gigabyte 7VAX, KT400, DDR, 8X AGP, USB 2, LAN, 6Ch AC97. Sound Card info: Onboard 6 Channel AC97 Audio. The company who built the PC have closed down. ps.
I do not use it for gaming. Please let me have your advice. I could pay somebody to fix the new sound card, which I should like to buy from Creative, but also not sure which sound card to buy, or if this is possible, since the existing soundcard cannot be removed. Maybe I could try an external sound card via USB? Many thanks. Halton

    Hi Halton,
For listening to music and internet radio any of our cards should be fine, the budget cards are for instance
    Sound Blaster Li've! 24-bit
    Audigy SE
    Audigy 2 Value
Regarding disabling the onboard audio, I can't give you a set of specific instructions, as this can differ per motherboard. Usually you can get into the BIOS by holding the Delete key (when specified) during the boot process. The BIOS screen is usually a blue background with white text. Onboard audio could be listed as "AC97" (which you set to enable or disable). If your PC or motherboard came with a manual, it may have some detail on how to change this.

I'm not at all familiar with pulseaudio configuration. Does anyone know of a good way for me to resolve this issue? Have I even identified the correct issue?
    UPDATE:
I was able to work around my problem for the moment by symlinking the configuration file to the location that pulseaudio was actually looking for it
    # mkdir -p /usr/share/alsa/ucm/HDA\ Intel
    # ln -s /usr/share/alsa/cards/HDA-Intel.conf /usr/share/alsa/ucm/HDA\ Intel/HDA\ Intel.conf
Although this does get my sound back, it is a hacky work-around and obviously not ideal. Anyone who knows a bit about pulse configuration, I welcome your input here

Thank you so much for posting your solution!
I was having the same problem. The funny part was it started happening (and not always) after KDE says that the Intel HDA device is "gone" and asking me to remove it from my configuration. Even by saying no it wouldn't work. Killing pulseaudio with
    pulseaudio -k
would have everything fallback to Alsa but starting pulseaudio again wouldn't work.
Rebooting right away doesn't take care of the issue either but after a while the problem would go away...
    Any inputs would be appreaciated!

  • Dv6265us connexant PCI sound card + windows 7 = Not working

So I'm here becuase I can't find a driver on my own.  I've scoured the internet for hours, finding very little to help with my issue.  So here goes...
I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 (Dv6265us), and ever since I installed window 7, Windows cannot figure out what drivers to install for the PCI sound card.  The best I've found so far says this:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it"
"Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio"
"If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."
Now here's the funky part...everywhere I've found information on my laptop, it says I have a Conexant PCI sound card.  If I'm wrong I would love for someone to tell me; better yet, a link to a download to actually be able to use the PCI sound card.  Right now the card is under other devices and is listed as "PCI Device".
Now the Link I've provided from the conexant site will tell you this under PC Audio Support - Windows® 7,
"Conexant develops audio solutions that are used in a wide range of products including personal computers. We provide customized audio drivers to our customers, which include major computer manufacturers globally. At the request of these manufacturers, Conexant does not provide end-user support or drivers for PC audio products. If you have an issue with the audio configuration in Windows 7, please contact the manufacturer of your computer.
I tried calling HP support, but they wouldn't even answer my yes or no question... "Do you have audio drivers for my laptop that will allow me to hear sound?"  Instead of saying yes or no, I was told that I needed to pay fifty to one-hundred dollars;....fifty dollars for a one time fee of telephone service, or one-hundred for the year.  I even went as far as asking..."if you can't fix my problem, do I get a refund?"  I was told no...so here I am.  I've had problems before with hp...but this is rediculous, and whats worse is from the way things look, Connexant was told NOT to support their own product, or provide drivers for windows 7 by their customer(HP).  I realize everyone is hurting for money, but **bleep**, this is a new low...

To answer your question, there are no windows 7 drivers for that model notebook. The notebook was designed for Windows 2000, Windows xp and windows vista.
This is one of the issues with upgrading the OS on a computer before checking the specs of the hardware.
I do understand the frustration but it would be more beneficial to revert back to the original OS that the notebook came with. That is what the HP support desk will have you do to prove functionality of the notebook should you have paid for the Diagnostic Support.

  • Alsa does not select correct sound card. SOLVED

I have onboard sound and do not have any additional sound cards installed. Alsa detects two soundcards, but for some reason seems to prefer the one that doesn't work. I am honestly not sure what the other audio device is; I do not have a second sound card installed, nor a modem or a PC speaker or any other audio device that I know of. It has always been that way, and I didn't look into it any deeper than that. I have been using Arch Linux for a about four years and the audio has worked flawlessly until I re-installed a few days ago.
For reference, the HDA NVidia sound card is the one I want to output sound. The non-working one is Conexant CX8801.
    My symptoms are as follows:
    $ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC883 Analog [ALC883 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: ALC883 Digital [ALC883 Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    # cat /proc/asound/cards
    0 [CX8801 ]: CX88x - Conexant CX8801
    Conexant CX8801 at 0xf9000000
    1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfe024000 irq 23
As you can see, the Conexant CX8801 (the wrong card) takes the index 0 position.
My usual alsa setup routine is to run the alsaconf script. The alsaconf script edits /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf for me, where it should explicitly identify the HDA NVidia card as index 0. In the sound.conf below, alsaconf generated the first two lines. I wrote the third line as a course of troubleshooting, but it still does not work.
    $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf
#THESE LINES WERE GENERATED BY ALSACONF SCRIPT
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
#THIS LINE WAS GENERATED BY ME
    option snd-hda-intel index=0
    $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    # /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
    # NOTICE THERE ARE NO CONFIGURATIONS IN THIS FILE. EMPTY.
I am by no means an alsa guru, so that's why I've enlisted the help of the forums. Tell me, what am I forgetting? What don't I know?

    Install asoundconf http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=23382
    do
    asoundconf list
to find out the correct name, then do
    asoundconf set-default-card bla
    to set the default card.
asoundconf creates a ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf and sets an include for that fil in ~/.asoundrc
