Including an link to an help file(*.chm) in dash board
hi,
is it possible to place an *.chm file(help file) in the dash board .
i tried but OBI is not opening it up in that format.
can some one give me an solution to this.
thanks
'.chm' is a Microsoft Compiled Help file that only works in Microsoft Explorer. You are advised to convert it to a friendlier format like HTML.
As per Microsoft, due to a remote code execution vulnerability, you cannot open .chm from a URL. However there are some workarounds in the link below:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896054
Coming back to Oracle BI, you could open the link in a separate window, and ask users to download the chm. Once downloaded locally, the chm file should work fine.

Crash on search function for HTML Help file (.chm) when
connected to a Visual C++ application
I use the RH_ShowHelp API command to connect a HTML Help file
(.chm file generated by RoboHelp Word X 5) to my Visual C++
application. My application is able to call up this HTML help file
in context-sensitive mode and everything is working great in the
Contents and Index panels EXCEPT when I click on List Topics (after
I enter a KEYWORD for search) in the Search panel.
I got an error that said “Unhandled exception in
xxxx.exe.(HHCTRL.OCX):0xC00000FD: Stack overflow”
I am able to execute this .chm file by itself and the search
function works well in this case. I am using HHActiveX.dll that is
created on 2/23/04. Is this the correct version?? Any advice what
to do here??Hi agschin and welcome to the RH forums. The hhactivex.dll
file is not used by the search function so you can rule that our.
Have you tried recompiling and seeing if the problem still happens?
You can also start the Bug Hunter feature in RH - View > Output
View and then select the Bug Hunter button - and see if that throws
up any clues. -
There are 10 module specific projects. Further map IDs are assigned in all the 10 module projects to have context sensitivity. These are merged into a single project to generate the entire help file. The output for the project is html help (.chm).
Initially, we generated the html help and integrated with the application. When tested (pressed F1) the correct topic is displayed but with the ToC for that module and not the entire help.
Solution: I followed the steps mentioned in the following thread that I came across on Adobe forum.
http://forums.adobe.com/message/240496#240496
But the solution didn’t work as expected, Further investigation showed that since the output file name had underscore (Module1_EN.chm to denote the language), the solution didn’t work. Hence I removed the ‘underscore (_)’ from the output file name and generated the output again. This time the solution worked.
Please refer below the steps for generating the output.
Steps:
Generated output (chm) for all the modules. I had to make sure that the output file name does not contain any ‘underscore (_)’ as this caused the problem when generated the help file.
In the main help project (which is an empty container), merged all the projects using Robohelp’s Merged Project functionality. While merging, I first created empty Book and then merged the project within that book.
For example, Book1 will contain Module1.chm, Book2 will contain Module2.chm and so on.
Added window definitions using Project Setup -> New Window. Also added reference to main ToC here by clicking Advanced Properties. (Table of Contents: Main.hhc)
Selected the above created window while generating the output (Single source layouts -> html help Layout -> Properties).
Generated the html output for the entire project (Main.chm).
Decompile the ‘Main.chm’ and extracted the ToC file ‘Main.hhc’.
For each module project, imported ‘Main.hhc’ as a Baggage File, created window definitions same as the Main project and with reference to ‘Main.hhc’.
Again generated html output for all the modules.
Tested CSH for the project. The correct topic displayed with the entire ToC.

Not sure but I believe it may be a bug in the Microsoft Help Compiler over which Adobe have no control. Microsoft last updated in 2004. Good luck!

One of my customers is complaining that the help contents will scroll out of view when the window is resized. Is there a way to anchor the position while the window is resized?
My CHM is a help file for an application. The application uses F1 to open specific topics for help. Therefore the help file needs to be visible but not cover the application to much. The Content in this situation is text however the help project contains Images, tables, text, etc.
If the user searches for the word "audio" in the search and it takes them to a section or sub topic that is half way down in the Topic, they would like that section or subtopic to stay in the same place as they resize the help window. Using Bookmarks if the topic is large enough clicking the search link will place the results in the top left of the doc view window, however this is not necessarily the top of the topic.
Im not sure how else to explain what the user is seeing, sorry.
Please explain "Also whether it remains consistent depends on whether an absolute or percentage value has been added to it." -
Robo 5 generated Help File (CHM) is not displaying the target Help page
Hi,
I am using Robo 5. AFter generating the CHM file and linked to the target application, the CHM file is not displaying content for a specific page.
The concerned topic, for which the CHM is not displaying content, is included in TOC also.
When the target topic in the TOC is clicked, the CHM file is displaying the following message: Navigation to the webpage was canceled.
Can anybody tell me why it is happening like that?Does it display OK if you open the help independently of the application?
If it does, then the problem has to be in the call.

The newest iTunes version has no Help option. Why? And, no ability to find out the version number.
The new iTunes, when in album view in Windows 7, has NO SCROLLBARS, so it is impossible to scroll the albums. Why?
Answer these questions, as I am an AAPL shareholder and I am NOT happy with these and other changes you've made to iTunes. The newest iTunes version has no Help option. Why? And, no ability to find out the version number.
You may need to bring up your Menu Bar to see the Help menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Once you've got your Help menu showing, go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen, as per the previous versions. -
Is it possible to link a topic from another help file?
I apologized if topic has been discussed/answered. I was
wondering if it is possible to link a topic from another help file?
So, basically my client has a help file .chm that was created by
someone else. I am brought in to create another help file. so,
basically for the help file that i'm creating a topic call vacation
hours but this topic is already in the previous help file instead
of including that in the new help file can i create some see also
link to this topic in the previous help file and the topic vacation
hours from the previous help file display once someone click on the
link. please let me if this possible and how i can do this.
thank in advance
bobHi, Bob, and welcome,
Yes, you can create links from one .chm file to another. The
HTML syntax is as follows:
<a
href="TargetHelpFile.chm::/path_to/TargetTopic.htm">Link
text</a>
For example:
<a href="htmlhelp.chm::/topics/chmweb.htm">Click here
for more information</a>
To ensure that you're specifying exactly the right path
information to the target topic:
1) Open the target help file.
2) Display the required topic.
3) Right-click it and then, on the context menu, select
Properties.
In the resulting properties dialog box, you can copy the path
information out of the Address field and abbreviate it
appropriately (you need the name of the target .chm file and
everything that follows it).
For this type of link to work, the target help file must be
in the same folder as your source help file or in the Windows Help
folder, or it must be registered under the following key in the
Windows registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\HTML Help

Include a link to attached files: is it possible?
Hi all,
I have a problem I hope you can help me with.
When using Acrobat,Pro you can add attachments to a PDF file and include a link in the PDF file to this attachment. As a result, if you click on the link, the attachment will open in a new window.
Now, I have created a form in LiveCycle Designer, and on the bottom of the form I would like to include a link to an attached file. However, it seems that I cannot edit the newly created form in Acrobat Pro. Hence, I am not able to include a link to the attached file using the method described above.
I cannot find an option to attach files in LiveCycle Designer, nor a way to link to an attachment. Am I overlooking something, or is it just not possible to include a link to an attachment in a form created in LiveCycle Designer?
Many thanks in advance for your reply!Hi,
I guess it is too late now, but you can do this in a LiveCycle Designer form. Just the same as an Acrobat form, except you refer to the Doc object as event.target. So to attach a file use this JavaScript;
if (event.target.importDataObject("MyAttachedFile"))
var attachmentObject = event.target.getDataObject("MyAttachedFile");
console.println("Attachment path="+attachmentObject.path);
And, this will open it.
event.target.exportDataObject({ cName: "MyAttachedFile", nLaunch: 2 });

Mystery of using CHM help files in LV
Guys,
If I have compiled help file (CHM) what can I do with it and how can I do it within a LV exe??
(a) If I place dedicated HELP buttons on the different UI's can I get LV to open the CHM at different (relevant) pages of the help file?
(b) I read something about modifying the Context Help of control (and enabling the context help to be shown in exe is another problem) and using the question mark in context help window to open again relevant page of the help file.
I cannot find a good place to start. Where are the tutorials and examples and documentation on what the options are and what's needed to be done??
Thanks.I think you are searching for "Control Online Help", a function you find in the Programming >> Dialog&User Interface palette.

How can I get help? Help files do not work.
1. None of the links in my Help files from within the program go anywhere. I had to manually go online to the Adobe site to get to this spot to try to get help. I'm using Elements Organizer 10. I can bring up the Help browser with all the topic links, but clicking on them does nothing.
2. The reason I was trying to access the Help files is that I cannot figure out how to see all the photos in a file instead of just the most recently imported photos. I am in Folder Location display mode. I tried to import all the photos in a particular file, but it imported only seven--said the rest had already been imported. But now it will only show me those seven just imported. I can go back to Thumbnail view, which gives me the View All button, but then I can't limit the view to just the photos in a particular file. I am so frustrated!
And since I don't really know how I got to this screen (thought I was submitting a question to Adobe Support) I don't know if I can even find my way back here to check for somebody's kind assistance! Thanks for your response.
I believe the problem is that there is no "Show All" button in the Folders
View. I've gone back to Thumbnail View and selected "Show All," then
returned to the Folders View and clicked on the particular folder, but it still
displays just those seven photos. If I click on another folder I get all
of the photos in that folder, but click back on this folder and I'm back to
just seven of 50+ items. Interestingly, I also tried going to the Import
Batch view, and in that batch it shows only two pictures!
By the way, I have shut down the program and restarted a couple of times.
I've also checked to make sure there are no album or keyword items checked
which would limit the items shown.
I cannot afford to update to PSE11, because I just updated to 10 last
month! I'm feeling very stupid at this point and about ready to give up.

The folder view in PSE9 and PSE10 is of limited interest; the new version
in PSE11 is better and safer in your case. I understand that all the files
in the folder are visible in thumbnail view but the older ones are not
visible in folder view, even with 'show all' selected ? -
Is it possible to add pic/diagram to SP file with link to another SP file?
Hi,
Is it possible to add a diagram, picture, or table to a SP file with link to another SP file?
I know this is possible in, say, Word. For example, I can add a diagram and check a box to include a link to the source file - so that when the diagram in the source file updates, the diagram in my document also updates.
This is also my goal in SP - instead of simply including a link to a document elsewhere in SP (or on the same site in SP), I would ideally like to display a diagram, picture, or table and include (behind the scenes if possible) to the source SP file
so that, when the diagram/table in the source SP file updates, my SP file also updates accordingly.
For example:
Instead of:
The diagram is located in:
link
I would ideally like:
Diagram, picture, or table (with link associated with it) - users can click on the diagram or picture if they desire.
The diagram or picture is updated whenever the source SP file containing the diagram or picture is updated (the source SP
file will only contain a diagram, picture, or table)
Any suggestions are welcome.

Help file error in Logic Pro 9.2
Since moving to 9.2 from 9.1, the "Help>Logic Pro Help" menu option doesn't properly link to the help file. Here's the error message:

Since there is no Logic 9.2 out yet, I see how you would have a problem.

Anyone know where I can get this file?
There is a link posted on:
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbum/starter.html
but it only results in an error - ver 2 no longer available........Hello Warren,
Help file link is available on Photoshop Album Starter Edition page on adobe.com. Here is the direct working link for downloading help file
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbumstarter/pdfs/psase3_help.pdf
let me know if it works for you. -
I wanted to check the difference between a Tag and a collection in the help file of Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0.
On the page http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshopalbum/starter.html there is a supposed link to the help file, it says "Download the Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 help document (PDF: 912k)". But when I click on that I get the following "Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 is no longer available. Consider buying Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, which combines power and simplicity so you can do more with your photos and show them off in creative, entertaining ways".
Thats not what I want.
So 2 questions - Can anyone explain the difference between "collection" and "tag" and on what conditions one would choose tag/collection.
And does anyone know how to get to the help file? I presume Adobes webmaster has just had a bad day as the rest of their site is well laid out with seemingly working links.

SwedenPlease help me as soon as you can. I am very upset. I typically download pictures from my camera and it goes right into Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition 3.0 and then it is copied into Zoombrowser under Adobe. From there, I download my pictures online. I went to delete one pic. from Zoom browser and the whole album disappeared from Zoom Browser. I still have the album in My Catalog but I need it either back on my camera or back in Zoom Browser. Please help me.

Greetings,
Our application has a static reference to one help file.
However some of our help material is dated, must be kept
around, but almost certainly won't change. I'd like to encapsulate
this static material into a help project, create a CHM file,
compile it one last time, check it, and leave it alone.
Other material is regularly updated. I'd like to compile this
material in to anothre CHM as often as is needed.
Is there a way to have something of a 'shell' help file (or
other mechanism) of the file name that the application expects to
be able to call, but effectively 'pipes through' help requests to
one of the other help files as needed? For the static material I am talking about a compiled help
file (CHM) with around a hundred or so topics.
I want the application calls to help to 'pipe through' to
this CHM.
--- Basically I am trying to avoid having to have any
material in my help system that I know will not change, but want a
separate project with it around just in case something does some
how manage to change.
Again the challenge is that the application only "knows" of
one help file to call.
