Including Kernel patch during new installation
Dear Collegues,
Is it possible to include a Kernel patch during a new installation?
I am doing a fresh install of Solman 7.01 on windows server 2008 R2 (v6.1) MAX DB.
During teh installation I am getting a message that win 2008 R2 is not supported. I found SAP note: Found this note: Note 1383873 where SAP provides Kernel patchech for Kernel 7.01 that would support the 2008 R2 installation.
I am surprised that if there is already support for R2 why it was not included in the DVDs we got very recently.
Is there a workaround like attaching the patches to the Kernel installation files? I am not quite sure if the installation will get completed successfully so that I could apply teh kernel later on.
Or is there any other way?
Regards,
Haik

Hi Himanshu Limaye here.

<b>The file name is: J2EERT15_0-10001982.SAR</b>
I <b>repeated the procedure</b> by again downloading the same file from <b>SAP</b> <b>Service Market place</b>.But,I am still unable to resolve the error.
As a result I am unable to complete the application of J2EE patches during WAS installation.
Could anyone brief <b>me regarding the JSPM or SDM method of installing J2EE patches.</b>Thanks.Hi Himanshu,

MSE kernel upgrade after new installation
upon bootup and stopping the mse server, I receive the following error messages:

Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.
iptables v1.3.5: can't initialize iptables table `filter': iptables who? (do you need to insmod?)

also when trying to ping the server, it not reply ???
this is new installation of cisco MSE 7.4
please any adviceHi,
I would never recommend doing an OS upgrade of a domain controller.
The preffered method is to:
1. Build a new 2012 R2 Server
2. Install the Domain Controller role
3. Promote the server to a domain controller - this will extend the schema of your AD to support 2012 - whilst generally fairly safe to do ensure you have relevant backups in place for your domain / forest
4. Transfer FSMO roles to your new 2012 DC
You can then go ahead and demote the 2008 DC, rebuild it to 2012, and re-promote it do a DC again. Keep doing this for all your DC's
Also you would need to upgrade your exchange first as Exchange 2003 isn't supported with 2012 domain controllers.

Help with crash (kernel panic) during new backup
I had problems with TM after 10.5.2 update. As discussed in other places, I decided to completely erase the parition on the FW drive and start from scratch. At this point, TM gets "stuck" after backing up about 250MB (already had 25 GB of 120GB backed up). It just doesn't move. In looking at Console (system log), I see 2 things of concern:
Macintosh DNS Responser [16]: Error getting external address 3 (this just keeps repeating over and over, and was present both before and after starting TM backup)
Macintosh quicklookd [834]: EXCEPTION CPMessageException (null) (that was only after starting TM backup and it got stuck).

Kernel panic during Leopard 10.5.3/4 net-installation
Hi,
We have built universal Leopard images on net-install server. I am getting kernel panic during net-installation of 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 images on old iMac bubble G4 machines. These images's net-installation works perfect on latest machines like G5, Intel MacPro, iMac G5.
I am not getting any problem with 10.5.2 image with this old bubble machine. But this problem occurs only after 10.5.3 images. Here is a small part panic trace, (Sorry, I couldn't get full trace since there was no way to copy it)
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):

It appears your Leopard question has been posted in the OS 9 forum. You might have a better chance for an answer if you report over in the Leopard forum.

Tmxgta, a new installer including the guide in ncurses
tmxgta, a new installer made for comfortably reading instructions alongside your terminal.
The included guide covers the complete archwiki page "Beginners' Guide/Installation".
Everything is written in bash, and is licensed under GNU Free Documentation License.
Instead of showing a wall-of-text information is split up into sections. Read helpful information about your setup like partition layout and mountpoints. There is no need to switch virtual consoles and remember long commands. This is achieved by splitting up a virtual console into two windows using tmux. If you are familiar with tiling window managers you will feel right at home.
Features:
* non-destructive, does not overwrite anything
* complete content of Beginners' Guide/Installation
* dialog for displaying text
* progressbar
* load keymap from menu
* colorful markup of commands
* reflector for sorting mirrors with one keypress
* shows network interface names
* shows partition layout and mountpoints
* list of timezones and keymaps
* guide for UEFI autodetection of kernels
* ~2000 lines for scrolling saved in terminal
* all archiso features

Download:
Download the latest iso release from Sourceforge:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/tmxgta … rce=navbar
Architecture:
tmxgta.iso is now working on x86_64 and i686 architecture.
The image can be burned to a CD, mounted as an ISO file, or be directly written to a USB stick using a utility like `dd`.
See the following links.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … ion_medium
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … tion_Media
Keyboard shortcuts:
There are only two keyboard shortcuts you need to know:
control-a + control-a : switches from the terminal to the guide and back
control-a : go to copy mode for scrolling up and down with the arrowkeys
or pageup / pagedown
Run tmxgta:
There are two possibilities to run tmxgta, it is recommended to download the .iso file.
Or get the script on github.
Known limitations: Looks bad on very small screens as in 600x800 pixels. The script is set to run only if 120 columns or more are available. Check 'tput cols' in the kernel console.
Thanks for reading and testing. Please submit bugs and your ideas on github or in this thread.
Last edited by teateawhy (2013-06-01 13:48:08)The new iso 06-01 is released, including updates from the beginner's guide. There is now a menu to select from various options for wireless network configuration. ( wifi-menu, netctl-profiles, netctl-auto). Also you can use the mouse for copy-pasting commands (with gpm), if you have a usb-mouse.
HalosGhost wrote:I have to say, you should really throw a PKGBUILD together for this.
I don't think a PKGBUILD is all that useful, because this is about arch installation, whereas the aur is primarily used after installation. That said, if somebody wants to create a PKGBUILD, you are welcome.
mhertz wrote:Well, the standard iso dosen't have a problem either with you opening a new vt and firering up elinks on the arch wiki
Still, it's nice imho to have tmux available in the iso, which I also myself add to my own archiso-made rescue/install iso's... That and vim of course...
Only works with internet connection. With tmxgta it is no problem to read how to use netctl etc. without having internet connection.
I plan adding vim, if it does not take much space.
HalosGhost wrote:Obviously, this is just my opinion (and I have no idea what the Arch devs would think about this), but this may actually be a viable candidate to become a default installer.
I think it is a good idea to keep both iso seperate for the moment, so i have more room for changes.
fakedrake wrote:How far/realistic is the possibility of some of these features moving to the mainline iso?
I want to second tomk, please make a very specific bug report, or just use tmxgta instead.
Thank you for your ideas so far. -
Kernel Panic during Installation
Recently, Tiger (in my macbook) has been experiencing crazy problems. Programs refuse to start, quit suddenly, the OS X get kernel panics, and other issues. So I went to the this Apple message board and ask. I tried various solutions; they all work, BUT the problems would return and new ones arise. The main solution was reparing disk and its permissions. It worked at first but troubles persist. So then I decided to reinstall Tiger through archive and install. It almost finished but once it was setting up iwork, everything stopped for an hour until I manually shut the computer down. I attempted another try, same problem. So I moved onto erase and install. Everything worked out well until I came to the setup info screen. Things were going fine until BAM, kernel panic. I shut down the mac again and it loads os x. Now i'm afraid things will repeat itself. How often would one get a kernel panic during installation (in this case info setup)? I just want everything normal.
Mac mini, MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1GB, 1.25GB Ram (respectively)How often
would one get a kernel panic during installation (in
this case info setup)?
Um...never? Kernel Panics are never something you should encounter on any sort of regular basis. Sounds like it could be a bad hardware component, most likely the RAM. Has it been upgraded since you got it?
Anyway, I'd take it to an Apple Store or get on the line with AppleCare asap. -
I'm trying to install the new version, but each time during the installation, "Error writing to file: C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Apple/Mobile Device/Support/AppleMobileDeviceHelper.resources/Info.plist." Keeps popping up. What am I doing wrong?
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
Upgrade Kernel file during installation of SAP
Dear All,
I am installing SAP on windows 2003 server.
I wanted to know can I update the kernal with latest avaiable kernal on marketplace.
i.e. for example with installation CDs kernel version is 150. But on marketplace version is 278 or higher.
I have started installation process. I got saome error and it is suggested that update latest kernel version.
How can i update kernel file.
one way it may possible that I can stop installation and copy latest kernel file and start installation as "New Installation"
But it again takes too much time.
What will be the best way to do this activity?
Regards,
NiravDear Nirav,
Yes you can manually upgrade the Kernel to latest version and then continue with your installation.
It works fine, i did it at some point of time.

Installing 9.2.0.5 patch using new 10.1.0.2 installer
I'm installing the 9.2.0.5 Database patch on AIX 5.2. One of the requirements for installing this patch is to install the new version of the Universal Installer 10.1.0.2. When I install the new installer, it is put in the Database software home directory rather than the common directory used by the older installer version (2.2.0.18). My question is this, is the installer supposed to be installed in the same ORACLE_HOME as the database software, is it supposed to be installed in a new ORACLE_HOME, or is it supposed to be installed where the old installer resides on the server?
I scratched my head for a while and decided to put it into the old 9.2.0 ORACLE_HOME.

Lock Up during New Software Installation
iMac G5 (2005) running Leopard freezes up during the installation and restart process of new software update downloads. I tried installing one item at a time but same thing happens.
Thank you for you help.
BHave you repaired permissions and removed all peripherals before trying the install? Are you using Software Update? Try using the [10.5.3 combo update|http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search&src=support_site.home&q=10 .5.3%20combo%20updater] and see if that helps.

Booting issue on a new installation on Acer Aspire 4752 laptop.
Hi All,
I have done a new installation of OS on a Acer laptop stated above. However, due to some reason, during the booting up process, it will always stuck at screen right before it enter into the logon screen. I will have to press
Enter in order to move it, as if there is a "press Enter to continue...".
After this "enter" key, everything else works normally. However, this is pretty annoying and I could not sent this laptop back to my enduser because of this trivial issue.
Some other information as below:
This is a new OS and no other apps is installed. Though now it is patched (with Microsoft patches). But it happens since the first boot after install.
In according to Device Manager, all drivers are in place. No exclamation mark and error.
Event Viewer shows no error for the boot up.
Safemode (command prompt) shows that it is stuck at loading "classpnp.sys".
My questions:
It will be good if there is already a resolution. :)
How to diagnose, or identify which apps actually waiting for that "enter" to move on?
Thanks!
wsnHi,
For the boot issue, first I suggest you use startup repair if you have an installation disk, check if it can detect and fix some certain problems.
Or run sfc/scannow in command prompt in recovery console, check if it can make any difference.
If doesn’t work, then try “Enable boot logging”, then check the log called ntbtlog.txt, usually located in system drive\Windows.
