"Including when automatically checking" keeps getting reset

I am using MobileMe including a MacBook Pro and iMac. Set up my work email account as POP3 on both systems. I keep unchecking "Including when automatically checking for new mail" because I don't always want to be downloading these for a few reasons. However, the box keeps getting re-checked on both systems! how do I prevent this? Also have this on iphone but the account is not active.

I think the problem might arise from the process of retrieving mail. I've gone into Mail, Preferences, General and have set retrieval to Manual rather than every minute. I'll also avoid using the 'Get Mail' button, as I think this is part of the problem - I think it might cause the 'Include when automatically checking for new mail' box to be checked.
So, given that the MobileMe mail account pushes new email to my computers instantly, I'm still getting my mail quickly, with no routine checking.
I'll report back if this keeps working.

• Mail forces "include when automatically checking for new mail"

I have two fully updated Leopard machines and a .Mac account through which I sync mail accounts, etc.
I primarily use IMAP to check mail, but I have some POP accounts set up in mail so that I can sometimes send mail from a different account. I uncheck the box on the advanced tab in Mail Preferences that says "Include when automatically checking for new mail." I have checked the box "Enable this account" which allows me to send the mails on a case-by-case basis.
The system works quite well when it stays in this mode. But sometimes the system forces the box to be checked on the POP accounts and it downloads mail that I don't want (this mail gets routed to the IMAP accounts anyway, so I wind up getting it twice).
I cannot figure out how to stop this from happening. I have made sure both machines have identical account setups. I have forced synced from one machine with the proper account setup to .Mac, then force synced from .Mac to the other machine to ensure they were equal. But it keeps happening anyway.....
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

For the purposes you have these accounts, both deselect (as you have done) Include when checking for new mail, and take the account Offline. The latter does prevent sending with the account, but will stop the undesired downloads. I have found the need to do both of these things at least since Mail 2.x and Tiger, and possibly since Panther.

when downloading Itunes, keep getting system error, have had it on this computer before

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

My apple id keeps getting reset. I have had to change my password at least 6 times in the last two weeks and it has now reset again

You probably are mixing up your password with passwords from other accounts. If i were you i would write down your password somewhere easy to acess and make it very hard to guess if you ever reset it.

My Apple id keeps getting reset. How can I stop this?

That's fine. I just didn't understand, but suspected that's what you meant.
You should contact Apple about this. Go to this website, find your country, and call Apple and ask to speak to Account Security about this.

• Password keeps getting reset.

Hi there.
I've had my password been reset about 20 times in the last few months, not by me. I keep getting emails saying that my password has been reset without my consent. I've changed the password back every single time, each time making it increasingly obscure. I've also changed all my security questions to almost impossible to guess answers even by my close family.
I'm now starting to believe that somebody is either hacking my account or my computer has contracted some sort of virus.
This issue is making me absolutely livid. It's a real nuisance.
Any suggestions very welcome.
Charlie.

I'm assuming that you're talking about your Apple ID password? Most likely, these e-mails either represent a phishing attempt, in which case there's nothing to be done but send them to your junk mail folder, or someone is repeatedly trying to reset your account password. To rule out the latter, enable two-factor authentication on your Apple ID, which will prevent any password reset attempts without providing some additional authentication.

• Resolution keeps getting reset by sleep mode

This is on an older Mac Mini. I bought my latest right before Yosimite came out. I tried Yosimite on the older Mac Mini to see if I liked it and so far I'm torn between Yosimite and Mavericks. I've been running Yosimite on this Mac Mini almost since it became available in the app store. Recently however every time I go into sleep mode my screen resolution gets changed and other nasty things happen. I've been using caffeine 24/7 to keep this machine out of sleep mode as a work around, but this is going to shorten the lifespan of this computer. This started after a security update from Apple.
Specifics about the system.
Mac Mini late 2009 2.28 ghz intel core 2 Duo.
Graphics Nvidia GeForce 9400
System goes through a Trendnet KVM switch to a Samsung widescreen monitor using VGA (Apple brand adapter)
The internal HD is dying so I run Yosimite off an external Seagate drive.

Have had major problems with flash crashing the last week or so. Seems like I'm installing a new version of Flash every other day and each is less stable than the last. I'll be SOOOO glad when HTML5 takes over and no more Flash.
Any ideas?

Roger youre way off base, it has happened to me countless times, confirmed by Apple stores that it is an original email and have spent hours with them both in store and on the phone, have changed my password so many times and two days later it will not give me access.
Rog if they are guessing my passwords I salute their knowledge of Latin, Greek and random thoughts of mine.
But I have found the answer. I am buying a Samsung and smashing my IPhone.
Never again Apple crap.

the correct server (http://server01:8530) using gpedit.msc, something changes it back to server02. I searched the entire registry and can't find where it's set other than the standard WUSERVER and WUSTATUSSERVER locations. Where else could this value be stored
and how to I get this laptop to check in with the proper WSUS server?

We have a non-domain member laptop. So it does not get domain GPOs, confirmed by RSOP.
Don't really need RSOP to confirm that a non-domain member laptop isn't getting domain GPOs, since it's functionally impossible for that to happen.
Somewhere along the line someone entered the wrong WSUS server into gpedit.msc for the WUSERVER and WUSTATUSSERVER: http://server02:80. Whenver I try to change it to the correct server (http://server01:8530) using gpedit.msc, something changes it
back to server02.
Well... now... here we have another functional impossibility. The *only* thing that can edit Local Policy on a computer is a human being working from the Local Policy Editor on that computer. In fact, not even a Group Policy Object (GPO) can change a value
in the Local Policy configuration settings!
The Good News, though, is that the Windows Update Agent is policy aware, so IF something is changing Local Policy, specifically the URL of the WSUS Server, the Policy Change Event will be logged in the WindowsUpdate.log, and from that you can determine exactly
*WHEN* the change is being made. Knowing when the change is being made will likely help narrow down
who or what (although there's not much opportunity for a "what" in this instance) is making that policy change.
I searched the entire registry and can't find where it's set other than the standard WUSERVER and WUSTATUSSERVER locations.
That's it. But this logic seems to suggest you have inverted cause and effect. The registry values are set by the Local Policy settings, not the other way around.
how to I get this laptop to check in with the proper WSUS server?
Well, this part is easy. You fix the Local Policy problem. :-)

• About:Config Preferences Keep Getting Reset

I got a new computer and installed Firefox from scratch. The default search engine was set to Yahoo on the new install, but I want to use Google. I'm slightly familiar with About:Config, so I was able to change the settings and it uses Google now, but when I close Firefox and reopen it, the search engine is set back to Yahoo. I don't know what option to change to make Google stick.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

• Computer Clock keeps getting reset

My computer clock keeps resetting itself. I have replaced the PRAM battery with a brand new one and I still am receiving this error message. What else could be going on?

The card was already installed, working fine. To troubleshoot another issue (I cannot export video from my Canopus ADVC300), I removed all PCI cards. All 4 slots are used. After I removed the 4 PCI cards, my Mac started losing time. I then replaced the PRAM battery and reset the PRAM. This didn't solve the issue. When I put the other 3 PCI cards back in, nothing happened as well. When I put the Sonnet Tempo SATA back in, the computer started retaining the time. Unfortunately, I the computer is not retaining the time anymore- even with all 4 PCI cards installed. How do you reset the MOBO?

• I upgraded to V10 and now I have the Firefox icon but when clicked I keep getting MSN web page, what happen to Firefox?

I have had FireFox for many years and have upgraded each time without problems. This time when I upgraded to
V10 all seem well until I tried to open FireFox (icon) and it took me to msn.com home page. I uninsulated V10 and tried to replace it with V9, but it also took me to msn. I went to restore (Win 7) hoping it would restore me to the original setup. But then I could not open FireFox or MSN. I restored back to the most recent settings. Still, the Firefox icon keeps bring me back to msn. This is very upsetting since all my favorites are booked marked with FireFox and I prefer using FireFox over any browser. Please help. Thanks

Hi tflan09,
Firefox is a web browser that grants you access to web based content. MSN is content provider. It sounds like your homepage has just been changed. Is that correct?
You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]]. Your homepage might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc have been know to ask to become your homepage.
There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
If that doesn't work you should look at the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved].
Hopefully this helps!

• When downloading itunes keep getting error 7 windows 126 message

When trying to download and install itunes get message: error7 windows 126

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
