Incoming connections now at start-up

I am now all of a sudden (after a couple of years of never seeing it) being asked to allow/deny Incoming connections for several items:
-krb5kdc
-qmasterd
-qmasterqd
-compressord
and a few others.
Why all of a sudden?

Could be a lot of different things. Have you changed your Firewall settings (System Preferences > Security > Firewall > Advanced) recently?
Are you running Little Snitch? Is it up to date? Are these processes permitted by Little Snitch? Are they permitted in your Firewall prefs?
If none of these are applicable, you can try deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist (Firewall prefs), restart your computer and reset your Firewall preferences in System Prefs.

  • Start a service on incoming connection

I have a computer that serves as deluge seed box and subsonic server - between many other functions - and I was wondering if there is a way to keep a service from starting at boot, and trigger it's start upon an incoming connection.
I.E.: When I want to connect to subsonic, I would go to 192.168.5.50:4141 - but I don't always use supersonic, so, if i connect to this port, I'd like supersonic to be started
    Is this possible somehow?
    Thanks

    Yes, systemd will handle this.

  • ARDAgent - Application Firewall: allow incoming connections alert won't stop

    Hello,
after having updated Remote Desktop Client from 3.8 to 3.8.2, users have to allow (or deny) incoming connections within the Firewall settings
WHENEVER starting the /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app, especially when logging in or starting the /Applications/Remote\ Desktop.app (Admin)
    ALTHOUGH
/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app is locked in the Firewall Settings AND/or
"Automatically allow signed Software to receive incoming connections" is checked (enabled)
When switching to a standard user (not an admin), he also can/must allow or deny - and the Firewall Settings are modified correspondingly.
    My questions are so far:
Why the existing Firewall Setting does not affect when (re-)starting the ARDagent.app-deamon?
Is the ARDagent.app (since Version 3.8.2) not a signed software?
This kind of attitude occurs for OS X 10.10.1 _and_ OS X 10.10.2.
Many thanks for any approach to overcome the problem and kind regards from Munich (GER).

I was fighting with this 'till now.
    This is what I did:
    Remove ARDagent.app from /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement
Remove it from the list in Firewall preferences.
    Disable Firewall.
    Reboot.
    Install OSX 10.10.2 combo-update.
    Reboot.
Add manually the ARDagent.app to the Allowed Rules in Firewall from /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement
    Enable Firewall.
Update to ARD Client v3.8.2 v1.1 from the App Store.
    Reboot.
Here, the annoying firewall message has gone. I hope it will work for you too.
I know it's a bit raw and it can be done in a more sophisticated way... But I have no time to deal with this kind of sh*t!
    Cheers.

  • Mac does not appear to be accepting any incoming connections (firewall off)

    Hi, all.
I've been desperately trying to get my PS3 to talk to my Mac with zero success. I've tried a large range of software, from Twonky to MediaTomb to PS3MediaServer to EyeConnect and to MediaLink. All fail to recognise the PS3, and vice-versa.
Firewall is turned off, router appears fine (seems to work with other computers on network), but the problem persists.
The apps listed above are not the only ones which will not receive incoming connections from the LAN: VNC does not appear to work, and Transmission bittorrent client is telling me that my ports are on 'stealth' (though this could be a router issue).
If you think it may be a router issue, my router is a DG934G router provided by Sky Broadband.
I've recently re-installed the OS (harddrive failure, replaced), but the problem won't seem to budge.
Thanks very much in advance. I look forward to hearing your insight and wisdom.

You must have a third party application or some startup files in place that specifically enable ipfw on your system, as the firewall in Mac OS X Leopard no longer uses ipfw. (ipfw still exists, but you must configure and start it manually.)
Could you have set up ipfw in a non-standard way on Tiger and those scripts are still being run now that you're using Leopard? Have you set up ipfw using a third-party app
Good catch. I suspect that this is the problem.
Not being extremely familiar with ipfw, would the command
    sudo ipfw disable firewall
    do the trick?
Or at least verify that it is or is not the issue?
Hurray! My faith has been restored in all things networked! The command "sudo ipfw disable firewall" seemed to do the trick.
I've just tested Twonky and VNC, and for the first time ever, they're working! Next is to try streaming to the PS3....
    Thank you all
Actually the real credit goes to William who discovered the problem from your log report. I merely followed up on his surmise and posted the firewall off command for you to try. However, the important thing is that your system is now working properly, which, after all, is the primary purpose of these forums.

  • How can i allow multiple incoming connections on my windows 8 vpn server?

    Hi eveyone,
Im trying to find out how to allow more than 1 incoming VPN connection into my windows 8.1 PC and no clue how to do it without openVPN or other programs (which i have no clue how to set up either)
Im starting to use my home NAS for work where I store everything on it so when ever I go to a job I can either access it or save a new file to it. The problem is my wife also wants to use it and I dont want to not be allowed to connect when I need to or
    not allow her to connect.
Is there any way I can allow 2+ incoming connections on my home PC without getting a seperate software?
If the only option is getting a seperate program can anyone provide something that I can settup to my home router so I can access the NAS by the private IP?
    Thank you

Short answer - no. The client OS only allows one incoming VPN connection.

  • Incoming connections and firewall

I have about a ten apps that have internet connections for their operation. Each time a particular app starts up after a boot/reboot of OS, I get the message "Do you want the application XYZ to accept incoming network connections. Settings can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security Preferences."
Every time I click ALLOW and the next time it happens again. The apps are listed in the Firewall as allowing incoming connections. The set access for specific services and applications button is active.
Of the ten apps only Fetch, BBEdit, CDpedia, and DVDpedia seem to behave this way?
How can I get those apps to stop asking if ok to allow? This seems to have begun a few OS versions ago.

I gave up on the build in firewall and went with the free NoobProof because it uses stronger firewall settings built into the underlining BSD core in OS x ad is much stronger and the program is very easy to configured via the GUI process.

    Hey everyone-
Im in the same boat, started a thread . My hands free system worked fine with iOS 8 out of the box new iphone 6. Did the update this morning and i can stream music perfectly fine however i cannot make or receive calls through hands free system.
I have not tried resetting the settings like most people indicate is working. I feel like I shouldn't have to reset anything, even less mess with settings with an update coming from apple. it should "Just Work"
Some people who reset said it works for a few hours, other say it don't work, and I don't know what I should do.

This is how I know its not a defect with the BT in my car.

  • Firewall constantly asks to authenticate for incoming connections

    Hi,
Apologies if this is nothing new, but I can't find a solution.
EyeTV 3.1.2 on my MBP insists on asking on each and every launch whether I want "to accept incoming network connections." I do, I tell it so and have to authenticate. But the next time I launch the dialogue is back.
I went into the Firewall in my Admin account and manually set EyeTV to Always Accept Incoming Connections. This only partly worked: the dialogue would appear, but I didn't have to authenticate. Now I have to authenticate again.
I'd like EyeTV to permanently accept incoming connections without dialogues and authentication on launch. How do I achieve this?
    Thanks.

Try what this guy did, report back if it helped you.

  • Why does firewall constantly ask me to allow iTunes to receive incoming connections?

I enabled Firewall for my MacBook Pro 2012, running OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, about two months ago.
Everything was working fine, until a few weeks ago, when I was experiencing problems with logging in to my Mac.
I tried booting up my Mac but it wouldn't boot.
Then, I tried Recovery mode and restored my Mac from a time machine back-up.
Everything worked fine, but since then my Mac has constantly asked me "allow incoming connection for iTunes".
How can I solve this prolem?
I've never had to allow connections for iTunes until after restoring my Mac from that Time Machine back-up.

Also, I recently installed Alfred, and purchased a power-pack license.
It installed an iTunes mini-player for me to have quick access to my songs.
It was only after installing Alfred that I started to have to allow connections for iTunes.

  • Firewall keeps prompting to allow incoming connections

    Hi,
This is, by far, Lion's most annoying new feature. Every time I open iTunes after startup, I get asked to allow incoming connections through the firewall. This behavior started happening after I made the mistake of upgrading to Lion. Removing itunes from the listed of allowed software does absolutely nothing, almost as if the program is just a blank field with no actual code running behind it. The excepetion gets added back to the firewall every time the Mac is restarted along with the prompt. iTunes' startup often hangs upon waiting for this prompt to appear and be answered.
Disabling the firewall is not an option, nor is reinstalling iTunes as it is the firewall which seems to be the problem. Rolling-back to 10.6.8 is also not a possibility at this time. I can't be the only one with this problem. Anyone else?

    Hi!
I re-enabled firewall just to see if it was solved on 10.7.3 and, as you said, no way. Everytime I startup my iMac, Firewall is prompting me to allow incoming connections for iTunes, but not for the rest of the other software I'm using, which I was asked for just once.
    Could you solve it?

  • ITunes always asks to allow incoming connections

I have the apple firewall turned on. iTunes is set in the firewall to allow incoming connections.
With iTunes Home Sharing turned on every time I start iTunes I am asked to allow incoming connections. I reply yes and the next time I restart iTunes I am asked the same question again.
If I turn iTunes Home Sharing off I am never asked about allowing incoming connections when I use iTunes.
Is there something else I should be doing? ( other than turning the firewall off )
    Any help would be appreciated.

If you are experiencing this problem on your Mac, follow these simple steps to get rid of the Allow or Deny popups:
    1. Go to the Applications folder and drag iTunes to the Trash. Don’t worry, your music, videos, and entire media library are not affected and will still be there. Only the iTunes software will be uninstalled (though it's always wise to have a backup, particularly of your iTunes Store purchases or anything else that would be difficult/expensive to replace).
    2. Reboot or log out of your Mac. This step may or may not be necessary, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.
    3. When you are logged back in, go to Apple’s website to download the latest version of iTunes if you haven't already..
    4. Install iTunes. Do not import any songs or videos if it prompts you to do so.
All of your media should be right where you left it the first time your fresh installation of iTunes is opened. If you get another firewall popup asking to Allow or Deny incoming network connections, make your choice and that should be the last time you see it. Future iTunes launches shouldn't pester you anymore.

  • Allow all incoming connections - will not stick for several apps

    10.7.2
I have several apps that continue to ask me on each launch whether to allow or deny incoming connections.  I've gone to the firewall pane and removed them from the list of allowed apps and added them back in both manually and using the "automatically add", with no change.
I've done a search through the forums and googled it, and the solutions always seem to be for a specific app like iTunes or iChat.  In my case there are three apps for sure that ask every time and the recommended fixes for this aren't really my best options.
Pro Tools (This only started when I upgraded from 10.2 to 10.3, and the usual fix method of deleting the app as suggested for iTunes will be a real hassle for this)  There are too many components for me to take out and have a real go at re-installing.
    Soundminer 4
    iTunes
This is definitely an annoying bug that should not be happening if I manually remove the apps for the allowed list and then allow them again freshly.
Does anyone know of any way to clear this up that doesn't involve deleting apps and re-installing?  That would be a huge hassle and I can't take the time for that for several weeks.

i have somehow kind of the same issue.
installed a drobo dashboard update and since then the firewall messages pop up for half a secound and disappear again in a frequenz of around 10sec.
it is impossible to hit allow, so they come back.
also tried to add the app to the firewall list & one service of it, but no success.
    messages come back.
do you have any idea where is is coming from?
