Incoming mail attachments are getting corrupted.

I have a MacBook Pro that I just bought about a week ago. Most current OS and everything is up to date. Using the default mail client, all incoming attachments are somehow corrupted. PDFs throw an error saying the document appears to be empty. Word documents open, but actually are empty. When I grab the mail attachments via the web client (GMail), they are fine. They also work fine on Thunderbird on my Windows netbook. Any ideas?

This support area is really for the MacBook Pro hardware.  I would suggest you go to the Mail.app discussion where there are really good experts on your issues.  I'm sure you'll get a fast answer there.  Also, you might want to do a search of the communities for your problem.  I see lots of hits for corrupted attachments, but since I don't know your exact problem, I can't tell you which has the best answer.

My Email photo attachments are getting visually compressed in the vertical. Squashed as it were. Does anyone know thw cause?

What version of iPhoto and system are you running?  When did this begin.  Are you mailing directlhy from iPhoto as the email client or with Mail as the email client?  If it's iPhoto reset iPhoto's preferences so that Mail is the client and see if the problem is still occurring.

E-mail Attachments are only allowing me to open in e-mail as opposed to PDF, PPT, GIF or any app that is relevant to the attachment.

Meaning if you use the "tap and hold down on the attachment" you are not getting the "Open In" option? Or should we just keep guessing about what might be happening?
If that is what is happening, deom the home screen .... quit the mail app completely in the recent tray by double tapping the home button to bring up the recents tray - and then tap and hold down on the mail app icon in the recent tray until it wiggles, then tap the red minus sign to quit the app. Restart the iPad and then try the "tap and hold down" on an attachment again.

Check on your server to see what maiul options are selected.  If your mail account is set to "download all attachments automatically", that may be an option you want to de-select.

  • SQL Anywhere 11 databases are getting corrupt

    Hi
We are having problems with databases that are getting corrupted.
We have a server that runs a SQL Anywhere 11 database. (the consolidated database)
Beside that, we have about 15 remote databases that run on the laptops of our mobile workforces.
To keep all databases in sync, we have setup a two-way server-to-laptop replication.
For the replication process we use “SQL Remote”.
Each laptop should replicate his data once in about 1 or 2 weeks.
For exchanging the messages we use the message type “file”.
This year we already experienced 6 times that a remote database got corrupt after replication. (after running dbremote.exe).
The log file of the dbremote utility does NOT show any errors, the replication seems to be finished without any problems.
But after this, it’s not possible anymore to connect to the database, because of the following assertion error:
    [Sybase][ODBC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Internal database error *** ERROR *** Assertion failed: 201501 (11.0.1.2376)
Page 0x0:0x7182d1 for requested record not a table page -- transaction rolled back
    Error code=-301
    SQL state=HY000
Can someone tell me more about this error?
    What goes wrong and why?
Or does someone has some tips on how to prevent this or tips on how I can do some analyzing myself to see what exactly got broken in the database?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Krenton,
Page 0x0:0x7182d1 for requested record not a table page -- transaction rolled back
    Error code=-301
    SQL state=HY000
Can someone tell me more about this error?
Specifically, the page at offset 0x7182d1 in database (So if you have a 4KB page size, this would be byte offset 7439057 x 4096 = 30470377472 into the database) in 0x0 (the main database running) has a page header that indicates that the data on the page is not table data. We don't know what it is, but the signature for table information connected to the table you're scanning is 'not as it should be'.
    What goes wrong and why?
In the real world, lots of things can go wrong. I list some of the possible things on this question here on the SQL Anywhere forum. This list can include software bugs, but can also include instances where the media is not respecting write-through or write-ordering - see http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-34090 (SQL Anywhere I/O Requirements for Linux and Windows) for more details.
There are also known instances where Intel drivers are not set with the correct write-through settings. The details of this are in the documentation: DocCommentXchange (Improving Robustness on Intel storage drivers).
Technical Support should still provide assistance. If the problem is a newly-discovered bug in SQL Anywhere 11, their advice will be to apply a more recent EBF or upgrade to a new version. However, that is unlikely in this case.
Breck is correct - it would probably be best to take a look at the database file in technical support for more clues as to what's happening here. With the current information, it's hard to say more than "something was not correct at the time the page was looked at by the database server."

  • Incoming Mail Attachments often corrupted

I have seen similar posts to this in the past few years. But, not a cookbook solution.
I am using Tiger 10.4.11 with Mail 2.1.3.
Often with messages containing 1 or more attachments some or all of the attachments are corrupted. I have two IMAP accounts and one POP account on different servers and have experienced the problem with all accounts.
I have lots of mail (3-4 GB) stored on-line, in INBOXes, as well as in LOCAL_COPY. Represents 3 years of mail and 5,000 - 10,000 messages.
A frequent correspondent sends me three Excel files in a message and more often then not at least two are corrupted. Mail recognizes the attachments as Excel but I can not open them. When I ask the send to resend just the one corrupted file usually I can open the file.
The problem is not exclusively with Excel files. I have seen it with large bundles of JPEGs as well as big PowerPoint files.
Since this is business e-mail most of the senders are from the PC world. Perhaps the problem is in the way the messages are encoded.
I exported a sample corrupted message as RAW SOURCE to a file. Used STUFFIT to expand it. The excel files were corrupted and unreadable in the same fashion as within the Mail 2.1.3 application.

  • Psd files are getting corrupted

    Hi
I am using PSE11 on a Mac, and have experienced PSD files getting corrupted twice now.  They are digital scrapbooking files, where I have started with a layered PSD file 'template' and personalised it (with lots of effort!).  I save it and close it.  Later I try and reopen it and it will not open.  The Adobe Photoshop Elements dialog box says 'Reading Photoshop Format' but it just gets stuck - the progress bar does not move beyond 1/3.  This is really bothersome as last time it happened I had no option but to start over and redo the layout.  Any ideas or suggestions as to why or how this might be happening?  What could I do about it?  I am reluctant to reinstall PSE, as I prefer version 11, have no disc, and last time it took many calls to Adobe to be directed to a place where I could download it (they kept telling me I would HAVE to buy the latest version.
    Thanks, J

A little more info about the files and just how you're saving them would help, as would info about your version of PSE. What color space are the files? Have you reset your PSE preferences?

If there are any changes in the workbook, we use to do only in English.
But when we reassign the Dataprovider and save the workbook, the workbook is getting corrupted.
Can someone please suggest me on this.

You can also try by creating a new workbook. Or if you have a copy of the same workbook in your local system, replace it with that.

  • Icloud is corrupting incoming mail attachments

For the past week or so email attachments sent to me at my .me or .icloud email address is being corrupted.  This includes .xls .pdf .doc .jog and .ppt files.  I am using Outlook 2013 but don't think it is the culprit...uninstalled and reloaded it.  Doesn't help to detach files.  Have unistalled and reloaded latest icloud control panel...no luck.  Doesn't seem to corrupt very small files.  I need some advice please.

macinchat's solution worked for me on this thread: Outlook 2013 - corrupted attachments from .me account
(Set incoming server to p03-imap.mail.me.com (port 993)   (instead of just mail.me.com) )

  • Mail Attachments are resized or embedded.

    Hi,
I'm a graphic artist and I am constantly sending attachments (jpgs, pngs, gifs, pdfs, psds) to clients through Apple Mail. Whenever clients with PCs receive my attachments they are embedded in the message or resized or squished. I am looking for a setting or a way to make it to where mail never resizes or embeds or changes the format of any jpeg, gif, psd, pdf, png or any other type of image file I send. I do know about the button in the bottom left of the new message window where you can select the small, medium, or large, however this button shows up only sometimes, perhaps only why I click the paperclip attach icon and not when I drag and attachment in. I feel like it should be consistent or there should be a way to turn this off, so I can send an attachment just like in any other normal mail client.

This isn't an issue with Mail, it's those people who are using a PeeCee and Outlook, which is set to render all email as HTML, even if it isn't. Apart from having your recipients set Outlook to treat everything as Plain Text, you should create .zip archives of the files you're sending and send those instead.

  • E-Mail attachments are shown as "undefined" since switching to Firefox 7.0.1

Since I switched to Firefox version 7.0.1, any attachments I add to an e-mail are shown as "undefined". If I look at the "Sent" e-mail, and click on "Attachments", I find them to be correct. This is very confusing when there are multiple attachments as I can't tell which have been attached and which remain to be attached. Firefox is my primary (default) browser. When I checked on Internet Explorer 9.0, the attachments were properly identified, so I know this is a Firefox and not a Verizon problem.

  • With Yahoo! Mail attachments are put together in zip format I can't open, but when I switch to Internet Explorer these same attachments open easily as Word or PDF files; how cn I fix?

Two recent emails (Yahoo! Mail) each contained multiple attachments which were presented to me as zip files which were in a format that my computer could neither open or convert to files I could open. One was two Word documents; the other was five one-page PDFs. I tried with Firefox on two different computers with same results. When I switched to Internet Explorer, I was able to open the attachments each as separate Word or PDF files, with no trouble. Am I doing something wrong?

instead of writing such an essay, you could have explained better what you tried to do to get them.

  • "Large" Mail Attachments are Too Small in Yosemite

Since using Yosemite (10.10.1), when I attach a photo to a Mail (8.1) message, and then choose one of the options to change the Image Size from Actual Size to Large, the photo shrinks way too much. For example, an 8.4 MB .jpg file shrank to 285 KB when selecting the Large option. Before Yosemite, the reduction was not as much, and the resulting image was far more useful to the recipient. These are practically thumbnails.  How can I adjust the size of "Large" Image Sizes to make them bigger?
I have not found any other reports of this problem. I recall once learning how to change the size of the Quartz filters used to reduce Preview images, and I image something similar is going on.

For the last few days more and more people are telling me that they aren't seeing the attachments I send out. It's very inconsistant except for the attached files were image fiiles...One was a .jpg and the other was a .tiff. Not very big at all...both were probably under a mb

Have you tried the "Notifications" pane in iCal? In the bottom left corner are three icons, one is like a small in-tray with an arrow pointing into it. Click on that and you should see notifications for the new appointments.
Select a calendar for them to be entered into (maybe you want to create a special calendar first or just put them in the "work" calendar) and you can then accept them tentatively or fully (or refuse them).
Now if someone can just tell me how to add a messge to the acceptance reply...
