Incoming mail server section greyed out

This is a problem I am having with setting up my iCloud email. The incoming mail server section is "greyed out" and I cannot change or edit it and when I go to save what I've changed Apple Mail says that the incoming mail server cannot be left empty. Any ideas what has caused this?

On a Mac, the server fields are automatically configured, which is why they are grayed out.  If your iCloud mail isn't working, go to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.  If that doesn't fix things, go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, restart your Mac then sign back in.  (This deletes the iCloud account and data from your Mac, but not from iCloud.  Your data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in, after a brief delay as it redownloads.)

  • What do I do if my incoming mail server is greyed out?

Can anyone help me with this iCloud problem?  I am not able to use Email and in i Cloud,  my incoming mail server is greyed out.  I searched the web for answers,  followed their suggestions, to no avail.

Thanks Roger,  I followed those steps, but it is still greyed out.  I seem to be getting some mail,  so I don't quite understand what is going on.  I have an iPhone as well, and mail seems to work fine on it, so I am not totally out of commission. This is just the strangest thing!   Thank you for your quick response to try and help me.  Margaret

  • Using Yosemite My incoming mail server changes by itself and means I can't access my email. When I go to preferences the new incoming mail server is greyed out. I then have to remove the accounts and get new ones.

Using Mail with Yosemite 10.10.2.The incoming mail server keeps changing by itself and means I can't access my mail. I  go to preferences and find that the new incoming server is greyed out .  I then have to remove the accounts and then add them again with the correct server. The incoming server which is greyed out is imap.gmail.com

Try Mail/Preferences/Accounts - select the account, then go to Advanced and deselect "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".

Are you using OS X 10.5.7 or 10.7.5?  If you're using 10.7.5 (Lion), it's grayed out because it's automatically configured.  If you aren't getting mail, try going to Settings>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.

  • Mail on OSX 10.7.5  has incoming mail server field grayed out

Trying to configure my iCloud email using Mail in OSX10.7.5   and in the settings the field for incoming mail is grayed out, yet every time I try to save to exit that window, it gives me an error message that it needs an incoming mail server.  Can't enter it because I can't get into the field, which is showing po2-imap.mail.me.com     Any thoughts on how to remedy?

I tried this and it entered the same info that was there and the incoming mail server field is still grayed out and I still get the "The incoming mail server cannot be empty" message when I go to exit the iCloud account window.

  • HT4864 incoming mail server is grayed-out

How do I get my "incoming mail server' un-grayed?  It won't let me put information on that line.
    Thank you.

The p10 number is one of those added by the system and appears to represent different geographical areas - it's quite normal.
If you are having problems with the setup you should sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud and sign back in again, emabling Mail in the checklist. This should set it up correctly. It's not designed to let you do this manually in the Mail application.

  • Outgoing mail server is greyed out

My email is being forwarded from Verizon to icloud.  I receive the mail in icloud but when I send messages it send from Verizon address.  the outgoing mail preference is greyed out and reads p03-imap.mail.me.com.  Any ideas of how to crrect this.  I'd like to change from Verizon to iCloud.

Hi Lawrence. I'll go through the process. I click on SMTP under outgoing mail server. My primary server, smpt.aol.com is on. The next screen says server, which is on, then underneath that is the outgoing mail server. Everything under that heading is greyed out, which includes the host name, my user name, password (which says optional), user ssl (which is on), authentication, then server port 587. I need to change my password where it says optional, but it is all greyed out and won't allow me to do so. Thanks very much for your help!

  • My Incoming Mail Server is grayed out....so, it is not working. How to fix?

My Incoming Mail Server  for iCloud is grayed out....so, it is not working. How to fix?

It easiest way that sometimes solves the problem would be to delete your account from your Mac (system
Preferences... > iCloud) and then to add it back again.

  • HT201269 e-mail account section greyed out and unable to access

E-mail account greyed out and unable to access or open?

Check Settings > General > Restrictions and make sure you have Accounts set to allow changes.
Also, if that doesn't work, close out the Settings App and the Mail App, then reset the device.  Hold down both the Home and Sleep/Wake Buttons for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

  • HT5361 What is the incoming mail server when setting up a apple email address?

When setting up a new email account the field for the incoming mail server is greyed out.  How do I add the info?

It should load that automatically. It varies.
It will be some variant of imap.mail.me.com. That may get it to look up the correct one.

Re: Messages Menu Commands Greyed Out
    A simple solution...
After much troubleshooting, I have isolated the issue with the greyed out "Messages" app menu. The problem is due to the truetype font Apple Gothic missing which is required for the AppleID login window when you first launch Messages. You can just hit skip when the dialog box comes up, but until you do so the full messages menus are not available. So to fix, just drop AppleGothic.ttf in <bootdrive>/Library/Fonts and Messages 8.x should launch correctly. Apple should have really included this font in <bootdrive>/System/Library/Fonts since it is required for one of their Apps
Many people in the prepress or graphics arts fields will likely run into this issue when they customize fonts.

  • Incoming mail server grayed out

My Mac Mail (icloud) account is acting up - the incoming mail server is gray out and can not be changed.  It says :
    mail.example.com
I have all the current updates/softwares.
I have deleted and added this account several times, does not change the outcome.
Is there a problem on the "APPLE" side?
Thanks for any help, suggestions, advice.
    Mona

I believe it should say something like: imap.mail.me.com or imap.mail.mac.com.
As it is now, it reads:  mail.example.com
and is grayed out and will not accept the cursor to highlight or change anything.
Acting up - it is off line and will get on-line when prompted.  All my other mail accounts (ie gmail) are working fine as far as receiving and sending mail is concerned.
Thanks again for any help suggestions advice
