Incompatibilities between 8.5 & 8.5.1?

I have some very basic mathscript code that I developed with LabView 8.5. A colleague of mine took this code and saved it in LabView 8.5.1. Now when I try to open the VI on 8.5 everything loads ok, except the MathScript portion.
I get following error message: "MathScript Node 'MathScript Node': VI failed to compile."
The only way to get the code running again is to delete the MathScript node, create a new one and retype all code. Is there no easier way out?

According to the 8.5.1 bug fixes, Mathscript received a lot of attention, so maybe something broke.

Instead of "retyping" all the code, it is probably sufficient to cut and paste all the code at once.

  • Incompatibilities between Windows and Macintosh

cant open PDF sent from windows to mac?

There are no incompatibilities between the PDF format as seen by Windows and Macintosh. You don't provide any real information as to (1) how you transmitted the PDF file from a Windows system to a Macintosh system and (2) what you used to open the PDF file on the Macintosh. In the former case, you could have corrupted the PDF file in transferring it between systems (note that PDF is not an ASCII file format, but rather, a binary file format). In the latter case, if you were using the Macintosh "Preview" program to read the PDF file, please try using a copy of the latest version of Adobe Reader. The Macintosh "Preview" program is not a reliable PDF display program.

My bank (Chase) and my wife's payroll provider (ADP) say I can no longer pull our statements because of incompatibilities between Adobe Reader and Safari. The Apple site says it is not responsible for for 3rd party software. Adobe says go back to Safari 5.0. Apple dosen't let me download Safari 5.0; so what do I do. The bank had me download Chrome, and I can now download my statements. but what a pain. Any suggestios?

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Incompatibilities between Gigabit Ethernet PCI cards and Power Mac G5?

    Hi,
we recently bought a Digicom PCI LAN GIGA32 Ethernet card to upgrade our Power Mac G5 1.8GHz server. The OS on the G5 is Mac OS X Server 10.4.8 (8L127).
The issue is simple: the PCI card is recognized by the system (it appears in System Profiler and as a new port in System Preference's Network pane) but Mac OS X cannot properly use it. We tried to connect the card to a Gigabit switch but nothing happened: no led denoting the connection speed turned on on the switch and the Network Status view in the System Preference's Network pane still show the red light with the "No cable connected" message.
We noticed this message in system.log:
    jedi kernel[0]: AppleRTL8169Ethernet: phyWaitForAutoNegotiation TIMEOUT
So we tried to manually set the Ethernet speed for the card and indeed it reacted, but we managed to have it working only at 10 Mbps (10baseTX).
It seems that AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext [1] is used by Mac OS X to control Ethernet cards featuring the Realtek 8169 chipset but it cannot properly communicate with Digicom's card.
The weird thing is that we tried the same card on a Power Mac G4 and it worked flawlessy. Maybe the issue depens on the PCI-X slots available on the Power Mac G5?
Are there any other report of incompatibilites between Ethernet PCI cards with Realtek chipsets and Power Mac G5?
BTW, we noted that the card's vendor doesn't certify the card for Macintosh systems but we didn't manage to find a PCI Gigabit Ethernet card certified to work with Mac OS X and Power Mac G5 hardware. Could you point me to some PCI Gigabit Ethernet cards proven to work with a Power Mac G5 machine?
    [1] file://localhost/System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plug Ins/AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext/

Is there something wrong with the built-in interface
or do you want to trunk/bond interfaces or route
    between interfaces?
    Just experimenting…
The interface that Apple had in G4 Xserves (Broadcomm
chipset) 64 bit PCI would perhaps be a good buy if
you can find it (available as spare part?).
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/osx_networkcards.html
Thanks a lot for the link and the Broadcomm chipset hint.
Meanwhile, I found that the Realtek website features a driver download for Mac OS X 10.4 and Ethernet cards with the 8169S-32 chipset (the one featured by the Digicom card tested).
I think I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes.

  • Incompatibilities between multiple firewire devices

    Hi there,
I've got a bit of a problem on my mini G4 with my new Lacie FW hard drive. I've got two firewire devices: the Lacie mini and the Miglia Harmony Audio. After every startup the audio device is dead. Unplugging and reconnecting it fixes the problem temporarily.
Miglia recommend that (for recording purposes) the sound device should be the first in the firewire chain, ie. no devices in between. This means I would have to disconnect the entire FW chain after every boot or sleep. However, I've tried pretty much every other chaining combination, and it doesn't make a difference to the problem.
    1. Have you got any idea how I can activate the sound device without unplugging?
    2. What do you think about Miglias recommendation regarding the position in the chain? Is it to be taken seriously?

I think the problem might be something else. From the system profiler I can see that Mac OS does recognise both devices (see dump below). I can even select the Harmony Audio in System Preferences, but it fails to play any sound.
If I reconnect the Harmony Audio device, the information that appears in System Profiler is essentially the same, only the Audio device appears at the top, rather than at the bottom.
Do you think the problem may be related to FW power? The Harmony Audio is normally bus-powered and doesn't come with an AC adapter. I will try hooking up an AC adapter some time.
Below is the dump from System Profiler. Sorry, the output is actually in German, couldn't be bothered to switch, but it should be pretty self-explanatory anyway.

  • Hyperlink incompatibilities between Mail and Safari

Late last year I converted from Netscape Mail to Apple Mail when Time-Warner announced it would stop supporting Netscape (which it did this February).
Apple Mail generally works well, but I've had consistent problems with the "Add Hyperlink" feature under "Edit." At first it wouldn't work with any URL longer than the width of the dialogue box. Apple fixed that.
But the feature doesn't work with non-standard-ASCII characters, such as the "#" needed to designate an internal anchor in a web page. The problem has something to do with character conversion between programs, perhaps in the OS. When I test a link containing an anchor by clicking on it in my draft e-mail, the "#" gets replaced by "%23" in Safari's URL window, and I get the "missing page" error message when I invoke the changed URL.
Links are the heart of the internet, so this seems like a bug that Apple should fix. But can anyone provide a workaround? I've tried all the tricks I know, including putting the URL in singly and doubly nested quotation marks, but none works. It would help if Apple would provide a "view source" feature for e-mails.
Also, it would be nice to have a separate discussion forum for Mail. It works, but it's far from perfect. I used this forum because I couldn't find a separate one for Mail.
Can someone bring these suggestions to Apple's attention?
    Thanks in advance.

While it's true that your links don't become active until you send the message, if you already know they work, it's redundant to do it again. As for making text into links, if you mean the method I used in my previous post when suggesting the two alternatives to create HTML E-mail, you can certainly do that, quite easily.
For example, let's say you wanted to have a recipient read a Macworld article, but you don't want them to see the URL in the text. You'd find the URL you want to send them to, Copy it, then paste it into the body of your email like this:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/54606/2006/12/outdamnedspotlight.html
Then you just add (the < character) at the beginning, followed by href=" and (the "> characters) at the end of the URL to enclose it; then add whatever name you like immediately after that closing international quotation (the > character) and close it with the  tag and the result in this example is:
    Macworld
No, you don't need headers to see and edit HTML, but Mail is not designed to let you compose HTML email. These other programs are designed for it, so it's not surprising they would let you see and edit it before sending, but that's not what Raw Source is for, and you're not using their similarly named feature to see or edit HTML, either. These are two separate functions.
I tested the link you referenced by copying and pasting into a mail message and sending both to my Yahoo! and Gmail accounts. When I received them, I clicked on the link and was taken to the correct place in the page without any errors, using Safari. If you're having trouble with it, I can only guess it may be something peculiar to your specific configuration.
Still, in the end, this is not a Mail or OS bug to be fixed, so don't expect it to happen.

  • CP 4: known incompatibilities between TOC and animations?

    Hi,
I've got a project with approx 50 slides, publishing to AS3 / Flash 9 or higher. TOC overlaying on left.  All works fine provided I don't include any sort of animation. If I do, the file won't preview or publish and CP crashes (freezes) at the end of the 'Generating Slides' progress bar.
No problem including the animations if I disable the TOC.
No problem with the TOC if I find alternatives to the animations.
    Examples of offending animations are
    - software simulations - themselves captivate produced swfs
    - scrolling text boxes done in Flash
Has anyone come across this before?

  • Connection Errors between Oracle 8 Client and Oracle 8.1.6 EE

Our current application has been developed using PowerBuilder 6.5 and Oracle 8.1.5. Since PB 6.5 does not have a "native driver" for 8.1.5, we have used their driver for Oracle 8.0.5 for Net8 connectivity to the server. Everything works fine.
Recently, I downloaded the current version of Oracle 8.1.6 EE from Technet to try out the compatibilty of our software with the next version of 8I, it failed. The error seems to be somewhere between the 8.0.5 Oracle Client Software and the downloaded Oracle 8.1.6 EE Server software. Some how we have lost the ability to declare cursors. I tried declaring a cursor in a procedure through SQL*Plus and it failed their as well. I have even tried the Oracle 8.0.6 Client, with same results.
Has anyone seen this? If so, what should I do?
    Thanks,

HOW TO SUPPORT TWO-TASK COMMON ERRORS - 1012295.102
    Troubleshooting
    ===============
Two-task common errors are generally RDBMS related issues, but could be caused by a problem with SQL*Net, or an application (i.e. Pro*C).
    ORA-03106
======== Possible reasons for the ORA-03106 errors include:
    1. Incompatibilities between the client application and the RDBMS server.
For example, version incompatibilities, or a client trying to use a feature not supported by the database kernel.
    2. When using database links or gateways.
    3. Network or SQL*Net problems.
    4. Corruptions.
    5. PL/SQL - language related.

  • Differences between jdk1.1 and j2sdk1.4 (urgent please)

Someone tels me what are the main differences between jdk 1.1 and j2sdk 1.4 : packages, classes, methods, types ...please. And if there is a package that makes changes to upgrate a code written under jdk1.1 to one that operates under 1.4 or even 1.3 please tell me as quick as possible
    Thanks

Yes, that might "generally" be true, but if you want a
    list of incompatibilities:
    Starting here
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/compatibility.html#incompa
    ibilities1.4 (Incompatibilities between 1.4 and 1.3)
you can trace back through the incompatibilities
between 1.3 and 1.2 and the incompatibilities between
1.2 and 1.1.Correct, but I feel pretty safe saying "generally" because of the following paragraph from the above mentioned document:
J2SE 1.4.0 is strongly compatible with previous versions of the Java 2 Platform. Almost all existing programs should run on J2SE 1.4.0 without modification. However, there are some minor potential incompatibilities with 1.3 that involve rare circumstances and "corner cases" that we are documenting here for completeness.

  • Itunes, ID3 tags, & hard drive corruption

My wife is having a strange problem with her iMac, and it’s got me a bit mystified. I’m hoping someone here can shed some light on what might be going on. I apologize in advance for the long post.
The problem is that when she plays some songs in iTunes, and entirely different (wrong) song plays instead. Most songs play fine, but some just play entirely different songs (or sections of a song or podcast). All of the tracks are MP3 (either 192 kbps or 256 kbps) and almost all of them were encoded using Windows Media Player on an XP machine. Initially, I copied the music over from an NTFS drive to a newly formatted (Mac OS/HFS+) drive on the Mac, then I ran iTunes and created the library. At that point, everything seemed fine. All the meta data (song title, album title, artist, album artist, genre, album art) showed up in iTunes, and everything played correctly.
Now we’re getting this weird behavior where we play some songs and get the wrong music. At first I thought the iTunes library files (ITL and/or XML) had been corrupted, but it seems on closer inspection that the entire hard drive has been corrupted. When I look at the files on Mac hard drive via the Finder, all seems ok – the directory structure is intact, the file names and sizes are all correct, and a Get Info on any MP3 file shows that the ID3 data is all there and seems accurate. This is true even for the songs that play wrong, but if I play one of those songs using the little mini player in the Get Info dialog, the wrong song plays (the same wrong song as in iTunes). So now I’m getting the behavior straight off the drive, with iTunes closed and the iTunes library completely out of the equation.
    Some other interesting clues/evidence:
    * This has happened before. When her first hard drive got corrupted (in the same way), I was mystified but chalked it up as a bad hard drive and got her a new one. Then we started over with a clean HFS+ formatted drive and clean music files and built a new iTunes library. And now the same thing has happened again. So I don’t think it’s just a bad hard drive.
    * It seems to be progressive. That is, everything was fine in the beginning, but over time more and more files get messed up. We know this because we have a backup that’s about a month old on which we can locate files that are fine (on the backup) but that are messed up on her connected day-to-day drive. So it seems like some activity on the drive is causing problems that are growing over time.
    * There is some weird meta data (ID3) behavior. I copied a few hundred MP3 files from the Mac drive back to the PC (over our home network) and looked at them in the Windows Explorer. The first thing I saw was that the same (wrong) music played for the bad tracks as had on the Mac. And I also saw that a lot of ID3 tags were not showing on the Windows side. Lots of tracks have no ID3 data (album, artist, genre, etc. is missing) when I look at them on the PC. There are many albums where tags show up correctly for some of the tracks but not for others. In fact, the number of files where the ID3 tags aren’t visible on the PC far exceeds the number of songs that play incorrectly on the Mac. When I look back on the Mac at the songs that have no ID3 data on the PC and do a Get Info, I see the ID3 data.
    * Often, though I can’t say always for sure, the wrong music that plays on the Mac is stuff that has been recently added. Either podcasts or music that my wife has added since the initial library was established.
My best guess (though still full of holes):
Something is confusing the Mac OS into writing on top of occupied space on the hard drive or into mapping files incorrectly in the drive’s allocation table, and chaos results. The Mac doesn’t think anything is wrong, and it shows everything as being clean in the Finder. So I started thinking about the kind of reads & writes my wife is doing on that drive. She rips new CDs to add to the library, she downloads new Podcasts and deletes old ones, and she changes ID3 tags.
I’m focusing on the changing ID3 tag activity. My wife doesn’t like the way I tag genre. I like big broad categories, an she likes smaller, more specific categories. So she has gone through the initial library of 42K+ songs and changed the genre on thousands of songs. She’s change some from Pop to Power Pop or from Pop to Indie Pop or from Rock to Indie Rock, etc. Both WMP (where the tags were created) and iTunes support ID3v2.3, and so these two programs ought to be able to change tags in a totally interchangeable and safe way. But what if iTunes writes its new genre tags in a way that’s slightly different from WMP? Could iTunes be writing to memory/disk locations that are outside the boundaries of the file and thus creating some kind of buffer overrun?
It really doesn’t make a lot of sense, but it does tie back to the evidence that this has something to do with meta data, gets worse over time, happened on more than one disk, and seems to be a file allocation table issue.
Even if I get to the bottom of this, I think my wife’s HD is toast for sure. Here’s what I think I will do: I’ll reformat the drive, re-copy the music over from the PC, and build a new iTunes library. Then, first thing, I’ll open iTunes, select all the songs in the new library, and run “Convert ID3 Tags” to ID3v2.4. If that works and everything behaves correctly, I’ll try to change some genre tags and test the results. The problem is that the library is so large that problems can go undetected for a long time, so maybe I should do this first with a small subset of the music as a trial run.
The thing I want to avoid is having to do this (ever) again, so I’d feel more comfortable if I understood the bug/problem before just following this guess (which feels like a roll of the dice). If anyone has seem similar behavior or has heard of any IDS incompatibilities between WMP 11 and iTunes 7, I’d love to hear about it. Any help is appreciated.
    Jim

Wow, that was a long and detailed post. I haven't the energy to reply in equal fervor, but I will just say that lately these boards have been peppered with posts from people whose MP3s are being eaten alive by iTunes. What I don't get is why you suspect the hard drive is at fault. Unless the rest of the system is caving in, I don't think there's any reason to suspect a failing drive. Check the S.M.A.R.T. status in Disk Utility if you haven't already, and perform whatever maintenance you believe is in order.
For the most reliable ID3 tag editing, I'd certainly recommend using foobar2000 on a Windows PC (or a Mac with Windows installed) or MP3Tag. I would definitely, at least for the time being, not put your huge music collection at risk by doing any further editing of the tags in iTunes.

  • Outraged by lack of info in iTunes about iPad HDMI compatibility?

I bought an iPad 2 as well as the HDMI adaptor so I could download movies on the go on my iPad and also watch them on my HD TV.
Turns out that you can't watch every film you download through iTunes on your TV. So, I download The Princess Bride from iTunes, which plays on my TV fine. And then I pay £6.99 for Moon, which all my friends tell me is brilliant. And no. I am not allowed to play this from my iPad to my TV
Now, I know this is not necessarily Apple's fault, but due to the Canute-like inability of certain studios to engage with the modern world and what consumers actually want.
However, I do find it obnoxious that in the iPad version of iTunes there is no mention of this fact BEFORE you buy a movie.
Fine, invent some cockamamie rules about which content I can watch where - but at least let me know about it before I pay you money.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is anyone else as annoyed as I am?
    Matt ski

There shouldn't be any licensing restrictions since you've purchased all of that.
The addition of the copy protection logic certainly complicates the issue and you could have incompatibilities between your TV, cable, and iPad. One suggestion I've seen is to just power cycle all of the devices.
If that doesn't work, check out the links in this thread: HDMI Digital AV Adapter / FairPlay Movie / Display not Authorized
If that doesn't work, contact Apple. It should work.

  • FAQ: What features use the GPU and how do I troubleshoot GPU issues?

    Photoshop CS6 GPU FAQ
    Introduction
This document provides a quick reference guide to video card usage in Photoshop.  Some features require a compatible video card to work; if the video card or its driver is defective or unsupported, those features will not work at all.  Other features use the video card for acceleration and if the card or driver is defective those features will run more slowly.
    Mercury Graphics Engine
The Mercury Graphics Engine (MGE) represents features that use video card, or GPU, acceleration. In Photoshop CS6, this new engine delivers near-instant results when editing with key tools such as Liquify, Warp, Lighting Effects and the Oil Paint filter. The new MGE delivers unprecedented responsiveness for a fluid feel as you work.
MGE is new to Photoshop CS6, and uses both the OpenGL and OpenCL frameworks. It does not use the proprietary CUDA framework from nVidia.
In order to use MGE, you must have a supported video card and updated driver. If you do not have a supported card, performance will be degraded. In most cases the acceleration is lost and the feature runs in the normal CPU mode. However, there are some features that will not work without a supported video card.
GPU features added in Photoshop CS6
Adaptive Wide Angle Filter (compatible video card required)
Liquify (accelerated by compatible video card with 512MB VRAM, GPU mode unavailable on Windows XP)
Oil Paint (compatible video card required)
Warp and Puppet Warp (accelerated by compatible video card, GPU mode unavailable on Windows XP)

The advantages of using a compatible video card (GPU) with Photoshop are that you can experience better performance and more features.   Problems can occur if you have an older video card with limited VRAM or if you use other programs at the same time as Photoshop that use the GPU.

In the Performance panel, make sure Use Graphics Processor is selected in GPU Settings.
Click Advanced Settings and specify the following options:
    Mode > Basic
    Mode > Normal
Mode > Advanced Provides the benefits of Normal mode as well as newer OpenGL advances that can result in improved performance.
Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate Computation
Use OpenCL Uses the GPU to accelerate the new blur filters (Field Blur, Iris Blur, and Tilt-Shift) – OpenCL will only be available on newer GPUs that support OpenCL v1.1 or higher
Anti-Alias Guides And Paths Allows the GPU hardware to smooth the edges of drawn guides and paths.
30 Bit Display (Windows only) Allows Photoshop to display 30 bit data directly to screen on video cards that support it
    Quick GPU Troubleshooting Steps
You can experience problems such as artifacts, errors, and crashes if there are incompatibilities between Photoshop and the display components that access the GPU.
If you experience crashes, incorrectly rendered windows or objects, redraw issues, or performance issues while running Photoshop, first determine whether OpenGL is causing the problem.
    Turn off OpenGL.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS).
In the Performance panel, uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Click OK.
Restart Photoshop, and perform the same function.
If the problem recurs while OpenGL Drawing is disabled, OpenGL is not the cause. For additional troubleshooting, see Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows (cpsid_82252) or Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Mac OS 10.x (cpsid_82414).
If the problem resolves, proceed with the rest of the troubleshooting steps to fix OpenGL.
Make sure that you're using the latest update of Photoshop.Updates fix bugs and issues.
Update the display driver.Updated display drivers can fix many issues, such as crashing, incorrectly rendered objects, and performance problems. Determine what video card you have and go directly to the manufacturer's website (nVidia or ATI/AMD) and download the latest driver. (Note: Simply doing a Windows Update is does not guarantee you are using the latest driver. You must go directly to the nVideo or ATI/AMD websites to get the absolute latest driver.) After you update your driver, turn on Use Graphics Processor in Photoshop preferences.
    Reset preferences.
Resetting preferences returns OpenGL settings to their default status. Reset Photoshop preferences by pressing and holding Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Windows) or Shift+Option+Command (Mac OS) immediately after you start Photoshop.
Click Yes when asked if you want to delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File.
Retry the function that caused the problem.
Change the OpenGL mode to Basic.
Setting the OpenGL mode to Basic uses the least amount of GPU memory and the most basic GPU feature set.
    Close all documents.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS)
In the Performance panel, click the GPU Settings Advanced Settings button.
    Choose Mode > Basic
    Restart Photoshop.
If this solution resolves the problem, switch to Normal mode. See if the issue recurs. If the issue recurs, return to Basic mode.
Note:  If you’re changing GPU preferences to troubleshoot a problem, re-launch Photoshop after each change.
If you are using more than one video adapter, remove the additional cards.
Multiple video adapters can cause problems with GPU accelerated or enabled features in Photoshop. It's best to connect two (or more) monitors into one video adapter. If you have to use more than one video adapter, make sure that they are the same make and model. Otherwise, crashes and other problems can occur in Photoshop.
Note: Using two video adapters does not enhance Photoshop's performance.
    Check your Cache Levels setting.
If you've set your Cache Levels to 1 in Photoshop preferences, you can experience performance issues with GPU features. Reset Cache Levels to the default setting, which is 4.
Choose Edit > Preferences > Performance (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS)
In the Performance panel, choose Cache Levels > 4.
    The GPU Sniffer
To help guard against Photoshop crashes related to bad GPU hardware or drivers, Photoshop employs a small program called the GPU Sniffer. Every time Photoshop is launched, Photoshop launches the sniffer. The sniffer runs rudimentary tests of the GPU and reports the results to Photoshop. If the sniffer crashes or reports a failure status to Photoshop, Photoshop will not use the GPU. The Use Graphics Hardware checkbox in the Performance panel of the Preferences will be unchecked and disabled.
The first time the sniffer fails, Photoshop will display a dialog indicating that it has detected a problem with the GPU. On subsequent launches the dialog will not appear unless the Photoshop preferences are reset.
If the user corrects the problem, either by replacing the video card or by updating the driver, then the sniffer will pass on the next launch and the Use Graphics Hardware checkbox will be enabled and returned to its previous state (enabled or disabled).
Tested video cards for Photoshop CS6
Adobe tested the following video cards before the release of Photoshop CS6. This document lists the video card by series. While the minimum amount of VRAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CS6 is 256MB, some features require 512MB of VRAM to be enabled.
Note: Adobe tested laptop and desktop versions of the following cards. Be sure to download the latest driver for your specific model. (Laptop and desktop versions have slightly different names.)
    nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 series
    nVidia Quadro 400, 600, 2000, 4000 (Mac & Win), CX, 5000, 6000
    AMD/ATI Radeon 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 series
    AMD/ATI FirePro 3800, 4800, 5800, 7800, 8800, 9800, 3900, 4900, 5900, 7900
Intel Intel HD Graphics, Intel HD Graphics P3000, Intel HD Graphics P4000
Note: ATI X1000 series and nVidia 7000 series cards are no longer being tested and are not officially supported in CS6 – some basic GL functionality may be available for both these cards.
Note: 3Dand some Open GL features are disabled on Windows XP, as stated on : http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/photoshopcs6/

I've had several timeout since the pings were started. Got a some response times > 1ms (nothing greater than 7 or 8ms), but no timeouts.

  • Is there a way to import images without crashing?

I am on Windows and I have 8000 images or so in 40 directories.
When I import into LR, it crashes. I have been sending that crash data to Microsoft (that dialog that pops up), so the Adobe engineers can download it from there.
    A few things I noticed:
    * when importing the same photos from the same directory tree, LR shows me a list of the photos it will not import, because they are already in the library. this is great, but it only shows the first couple of hundred or maybe a thousand? It does not list the most recently added photos. It's almost as if there is a limit to how many "previously loaded images in the library" it can handle.
    * sometimes when crashes occur, i get a crash dialog and sometimes LR just restarts... either can happen when processing the same photos and the same directories. I can't see a pattern.
    * note: *all* of these 8000 photos can be loaded with Bridge/Photoshop without errors, so I am sure it's a LR problem.
I understand software development, but why didn't Adobe QA team test importing with hundreds or thousands of images? With the wealth of development tools availalbe today, these kinds of stress tests can be done in an automated way, as part of the build process.

    I had several yesterday
    A bit of history:
During the beta phase I only had a very small library with some
unimportant photos. When I uninstalled beta 4 a week or so before v1
came out I did not delete the original database.
I installed v1, the original DB was automatically detected and used, I
added all my pictures to it. While import went quite smoothly,
performance later on was abysmal. So, yesterday I decided to dump the
old library, creating one from scratch. This way I could also take
note of those files LR could not import.
    The situation:
I have three HDs connected to the computer [one internal, two FW], the
internal one holding the least number of photos. Importing the few
hundred internally stored files went alright, the same operation on
the FW-connected drives crashed several times.
    Probable culprit:
When I am on the computer various programs for communication are
running in the background, e-mail [The Bat!], browser [Opera 9.1] and
    IM [Trillian] the foremost.
Trillian uses an XML UI; it also features plug-ins of which I have a
installed a handful, like a weather-forecast. The one regularly
hitting performance is my RSS aggregator, a plug-in called Good News.
It may be curious coincidences but since I installed LR I had two or
three crashes of Trillian when LR was running; and the crashes on
import with LR happened just when Good News refreshed a number of RSS
feeds. The new messages are shown as small windows on the desktop,
fading away after a few seconds. With more than one new message [most
of the time there are more, often enough a lot more] the windows stack
up until the border of the desktop is reached, then they move down
when other notification windows disappear. Quite some work for CPU and
    graphics adaptor.
I explain that because it may help others to find the problem, and in
order to give Adobe something to look for [like incompatibilities
    between application].
BTW, after I closed down Trillian and let LR work, no crash anymore.
    Could be coincidence, though.
