Incompatibility with Photoshop CS2 ??
I was running Photoshop CS2 two weeks ago, then last week it would crash every time.
Has something in the OS changed that would cause this?
I have repaired disk permissions and trashed the Prefs file. Is there anything else I can do to prevent the crashes?

David Converse writes:
"Adobe has officially announced that CS3 and older are NOT supported under 10.6. Only CS4 has official support; they list two small compatibility issues at present.
I've heard nothing that indicates whether CS3 has any known issues, but I think it's a pretty lousy decision on their part. I bought CS3 less than 18 months ago and it would be nice if Adobe saw fit to continue support for that one version back."
Adobe's John Nack posted an Adobe FAQ about Adobe's position on CS3 to his weblog, and the responses have been numerous, many of them pointing out that CS3 was current little over a year ago. Mr. Nack has updated his weblog with the following information:
Update: No one said anything about CS3 being "not supported" on Snow Leopard. The plan, however, is not to take resources away from other efforts (e.g. porting Photoshop to Cocoa) in order to modify 2.5-year-old software in response to changes Apple makes in the OS foundation.
Mr. Nack now reports that Photoshop CS3 has been tested on Snow Leopard without finding significant problems.

Problems with Photoshop CS2
I originally purchased this software several years ago. At time I was running Microsoft Windows XP.
This computer recently was replaced with a Dell running Windows 8.I reloaded my CS2 on this computer & it ran fine with a few exceptions as follows;
when the software comes up initially I get a message that says “could not complete your request because of program error”. Hitting OK allows me to continue using the software .
When I try to activate a function using CTLR or ALT keys I get this message “required application failed to load and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application”. This causes the application to abort.
Reloading my CS2 continues to generate the same messages when I depress the CTLR or ALT keys.Your original copy is obsolete and Adobe is offering a free replacement you are entitled to. Download and use that and that should clear it up for you.

Can't Access Supplementary Editing with Photoshop CS2
I was a user of Elements3 for a long time mainly because I liked that the catalog's "edit with" feature worked with Photoshop CS2. I recently got a new PC with Windows 7 so I could not install PSE 3. I downloaded PSE9 trial version to see if all worked well and it was worth the purchase. The problem I am having is that I cannot seem to get my Photoshop (CS2) as a supplementary editing option. When I try it tells me this
But if I don't add it like it says, there is not a Photoshop option when I go to the "edit with" list.
I don't know if this is right, but from the little bit of research I did it thinks I am trying to add Elements again because the Elements program exe file starts with "Photoshop" so when it reads the Photoshop.exe file it thinks it is a duplicate. I tried creating a copy and renaming the Photoshop.exe file which almost worked. Elements allowed me to select it as a supplementary editor and afterwards Photoshop was an edit option. I tried to edit a photo with it and while the program opened, it then got an error message and ended up closing before the photo came up for editing.
Can someone give me a fix to use Photoshop as my editor. I really liked how I could edit in PS and keep a neat catalog of edited versions with the Elements versioning capability. If I can't do it I probably won't end up purchasing the PSE9 program.I have the identical problem trying to use Photoshop as the editor from Photoshop Elements 11.
Please can some-one let us in on the secret of how to get PSE to recognise that a full Photoshop is installed.
Thanks

Memory Problems with Photoshop CS2 - RAM not being utlized
I am having memory issues with Photoshop CS2. I have a G5 dual 2.5 with 8 GB of RAM. PS CS2 keeps hanging on me when I'm doing fairly routine tasks with a fairly complex low-res .psd file. It includes several nested layers...etc.
I noticed while running activity monitor that Photoshop is utilizing a very small percentage of my system's RAM. Approximately 475 MB of the total 8 GB RAM and 1.07 GB of harddrive space for the scratch disk. This seems odd as there is over 6 GB of free RAM while this is happening.
I've uploaded a screen capture of my activity monitor while Photoshop is hanging. Note that the CPU percentage is above 98%. That's an awful lot of RAM going unused.
http://www.tramad.com/Memory.png
Any idea what's going on here? Could it be a corrupt file or font?Doesn't completely make sense as I've been using this particular machine for almost two years without any problems working in much more complex and much larger high-res .psd files. I doubt that's what the issue is here. I'm starting to think the file became corrupted...
Hard to believe that Adobe/Apple haven't issued a fix for the RAM issue yet.
I also run routine CRON maintenance using Cocktail and have no other issues with any software.... -
Mac Mini G4 with Photoshop CS2
I have a Mac Mini G4 512 MB of Ram. I want to get Photoshop CS2. Has anyone experienced slow response or issues with Photoshop CS2 on a Mac Mini G4?
I would recommend that you get some more memory on that Mac Mini. 512Gb is a small memory configuration for Photoshop on ANY machine. I run 2Gb on my dual proc G5 and it runs great. I imagine that as long as you don't try to process large files with it, you might be ok.
According to the Adobe site, you will experience slow downs on the Intel Macs due to the need to run emulator along with Photoshop. However, they say it will work. Don't expect to see a universal version of PS any time soon either. They say it will wait for the next major release of PS, 12-18 months out.
Anyway, good luck. I'd be interested in hearing of your results with PS on the Mini.

Windows 7, problems with Photoshop CS2 upgrade install
I just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and I seem to have outsmarted myself. Ever since version 5 I've bought the upgrade... well, now I no longer have the original version 5 disk and can no longer install and use either my CS or CS2 version. While I do have a backup copy of my old version 5 CD copied onto my hard drive it will not install on Win7 and the CS2 upgrade doesn't recognize the backup as a valid upgrade.
When I try to install version 5 I get an error message to the effect that it's incompatable with Windows 7. Trying to install either CS or CS2 and I get a "valid upgrade not found" error... if I let it install anyway in trial mode once it's done installing I get a "trial period is over, enter serial number". I enter my serial number for the version I'm installing and I get "invalid serial number" Invalid? It's the number on the back of the CD case verified 10 times.
Am I hosed or will I have to go back to Windows XP? I've paid for the Photoshop CS upgrade and the CS2 upgrade over the years but neither will install and run since I cannot install the last full version I own.
At the moment I'm having to use my laptop for all my photoshop work since it's still running XP and so it has a functional version of Photoshop. It works fine.
Right click on the "setup.exe" file on the CS2 install disc and then click on "properties", then click on the "compatibility" tab.
Click on the box for "Run this in compability mode" and in the pull down select "XP sp2".
Click "apply" and then "ok".
Now go back to "setup.exe" and click on "Run as administrator" and CS2 should load fine. -
Using Elements Organizer with Photoshop CS2
I have grown comfortable with Photoshop Elements integrated organizer and have upgraded to Photoshop CS2 and instead of using the CS2 file manager would like to continue to use the Elements organizer. The problem Im having is when I edit a photo in CS2 and save it, I have to go find the edited file in Elements organizer and add it manually to the organizer, where if I edit in Photoshop elements, the file is automatically added in the organizer for me. Is there something I can do to make this more automatic when I edit in CS2?
Thanks
JoeJoe,
I have all the current updates for both products, but other than that, I've
done nothing special.
For regular file types (jpg, psd, etc.) the handshake goes without a hitch.
Raw files act a little quirky. Raw files do get passed from Organizer to
CS2 and they open in camera raw. But, I've found that if you don't press
the "open" button in camera raw, CS2 will give you an error message that
says it couldn't receive the document from "Photoshop Album". Click ok on
that message and you get another that says it could not complete the update
from the Photoshop Album command because of a program error.
If, I press "open" in the camera raw dialog to edit in CS2, all is fine. If
I make changes and save, Organizer pops up a message saying I've returned to
Organizer and gives me an option to add to a version set or keep it
separate. It adds to the version set fine. But, since I only selected save
in CS2, it remains open there. If I make further edits to the open file and
save, I have to manually update the organizer thumbnail. On the other hand,
if I just click close and respond yes to the "save changes" message , I get
two popups -- one labled "edited file from Photoshop" and "new edited file".
If I click "ok" on both, I get two entries in the version set. (I've done
that with a regular file and I only get one popup.)
So, there you have it. Ordinary files work as expected. But, raw is quirky.
Raw files work fine if you continue to open in CS2 from camera raw and only
save once.

Fonts issue with Photoshop CS2
I'm not sure if my thread in the right forum, but I'm really having an issue with the fonts. It started when I installed MS Office for Mac, Safari was having problems with the fonts. So I referred to one of the posts in the Discussions and I used Font Finagler 0.5.3 to remove the cache fonts, and I deleted few fonts from Font Book, and deleting the fonts solved my issue with Safari. I'm not using Office any more, As I deleted the software.
Now, I've Installed Photoshop CS2, update it with the latest updates available. But I'm having an issue with the fonts! The issue is affecting only the Palette Names in the Palette Well, where the font size seems to be larger than its corresponding tab.
In order to fix the problem, I tried to temporary remove the Fonts folder from the library, restart my MAC, but nothing happen, except error messages of missing fonts in iWork!
I'm wondering if anyone has faced similar problem, or if there is any solution for such an issue.
Kind Regards
Razi

Many problems with Photoshop CS2
Hi,
I noticed many failure on CS2 softwares, i didnt upgrade to CS3 and iam wondering if it it worth the investment looking how much messy CS2s is to my projects so far. I thought they brought in CS2 to solves the many glitches in CS, but...
1 - Illustrator CS2 doesnt not export to gif. I am working on an e-commerce project having to customize hundreds of gif pictures. I am more fluent with Illustrator than Photoshop plus the many vector tools makes it more useful for this kind of project.
- This forces me to try some complicated workflow where i do the design first in illustrtor then export to .psd so i can simply save out as gifs. This is where i found many other problems:
2- When i open these psd that took so many hours to design, i found out photoshop interprets everything poorly. It messed up all the dimensions and sizes.
3- I set document sizes in Illustrator to small sizes even if i imported in a large picture that i use as background (moving and rotating that background allows me to create many variations of my background keeping the same tone), but the exported psd didnt respect the doc settings and instead of cropping brings in the entire file resolution.
4- I dunno if any of you guys have tried to do anything like selecting many layers and rescale them in photoshop? Or simply select a text layer and resize it in photoshop? really painy. Such a breeze in other applications like flash or illustrtor appear so heavy in photoshop, i ended up losing all the harmony of my works, if not my sanity.
Please if someones have ever gone thru all these nightmares before can you explain me how you found way around it would be very nice and helpful.
Thank you for reading.
PS: Had same problem trying to open some design i did and sliced in Fireworks 8 too, when opened in photoshop CS2 everything where 3 times bigger! There's nothing wrong with the program. Refer to this:
I can’t see my images and only get a black screen (or strange pattern).

Using PSA 3 SE with Photoshop CS2 or PSE2
I have PSE2 and the full monty Photoshop CS2. As I want to create slideshows with my own background musice, transitions, etc I downloaded PSA 3SE hoping that this was the software I needed. However, in its Read Me First file it says that in order to use the full functionality for slide shows (music, transitions, etc) I need to upgrade to PSE2. But I already have that, and CS", installed but I cannot seem to integrate them with PSA 3 SE.
Any tips on what I need to do would be much appreciated. Adobe won't give me any email help/advice and I refuse to pay them $39 for a call that may not even help me!It says upgrade to PSE 3, which includes Organizer, which is the highest functionality version of the PSA technology.
Having said that, none of these programs do a great job of slideshows.
My suggestion is go buy a "real" slideshow program. There are lots available. I like the product at http://www.wnsoft.com ProShow Gold is well thought of. -
I recently acquired a second Mac G5 so that two people could edit raw files at the same time. I have the two Mac G5s networked together via a gigabit ethernet network. I have registered copies of Photoshop CS 2 and Bridge installed on both machines. One is my main computer and is faster and has all of my image files on its internal hard drives. I want to have an assistant use the Bridge on the second computer to view and edit raw files on the main computer.
I can get Bridge to view and rank and adjust raw files, but when I open a file in Photoshop and try to save it over the network I get an OS X message that says the file is locked. It's odd to get a file locked message for a file I am saving for the first time. At first I thought this was an OS X disk permissions issue, but in the Finder I am able to copy and delete files without any problems.
Researching the issue further, I discovered that for Macintosh Photoshop CS2 Adobe does not recommend opening and saving files over a network. Instead, they recommend copying the files from computer A to computer B so that all saves are to local drives. They recommend the use of Version Cue, but I understand that Version Cue does not work well with OS 10.4.
http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/332534.html
I find this inability to have a second computer open and save over a network to be a real hindrance in having a central organized file structure for all current jobs.
Other than copying from one computer to another and copying back, does anyone have a real world alternative?
G5 Quad Mac OS X (10.4.8)I can see the advantages of Bridge. And Photoshop CS2 is great.
Since these are both Adobe products, and they're causing trouble, AND you paid good money for them...I'd toss it back at Adobe and see if they offer support for their Fine Products.
It sounds that Bridge is somehow locking the network directory that you're trying to save your picture into. Copy/Deleting files via Finder is going to be somehow different than two Adobe products fighting for dominance and version tracking.
(this last paragraph is a rambling brainstorm...YOU use the software and have the manuals :\ -
Photoshop CS6 interfering with Photoshop CS2?
I was able to use Photoshop CS6 beta on the same machine as Photoshop CS2 without any problems. I uninstalled the beta and installed the release version of Photoshop CS6. When I ran Photoshop CS2, it "hung." The small initial popup that is supposed to show the names of the development team and the start-up status messages shows up -- but only as a white rectangle.
I rebooted the computer and tried again with nothing else running -- and got the same result.
Thinking the installation program might have a Repair option, I launched Control Panel and selected Add/Remove Programs. Photoshop CS2 does not appear in the list of installed applications.
How can I fix Photoshop CS2?Thanks, Jeff.
I tried a program called "Speedy PC" from Pareto; it could be the culprit. (I had not tried to run PS CS2 after installing the release version of PS CS6, so I don't know if it stopped working as part of the CS6 installation -- or because something the Pareto software did.)
Installation disks, installation disks -- I know I had them when I installed the software six years ago...... -
File types won't associate with Photoshop CS2
I have installed Photoshop CS2 as a part of the Video Production Suite. I am having difficulty associating my image file types to PS CS2. Windows defaults to its image viewer and will not change in the Folder Options in Windows. How can I do this within Photoshop?
When I installed from the DVDs I was not presented with the File Association Window, as the the Help file indicates.
Thanks!check edit preferences in bridge. there's some file handling prefs in there. set cs2 to handle the images that you want it to.

Apple Symbols font not working with Photoshop CS2...
This seems rather strange to me, but only a few characters will type....I've tried 'option+key' - 'control+key' - shift+key and 'apple+key' ....and the ones that show up, I do not even see in the font book display of this font. I have done a search and found a document about "special characters and symbols", but could not find the described character palette in PS.
Should I be using some other key - like an F key or something?Hello
Perhaps your script used to work under pre-OSX10.5 (AppleScript 1.x) but now fails under OSX10.5 (AppleScript 2.x)?
If so, the most likely cause is the drastic change in internal text handling between them. In AS2.x, internal text is Unicode only, which might prevent PSCS2 from resolving 'file path_string' descriptor (when path_string is assumed to be plain 'string', not Unicode text).
Try the following code instead -
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS2"
open ("AV:logo:rot0001.png" as alias)
end tell
Or -
set a to "AV:logo:rot0001.png" as alias
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS2"
open a
end tell
Hope this may help,
H
