"Incompatible Angle VOBUs" Mixed-Angle issues

Does anyone know what "Incompatible Angle VOBUs" error means?
I am working on a mixed angle DVD and I am having a horrible time. I get the "Internal Muxer error", or "Incompatible Angle VOBUs" errors and the build/burn fails.
I've tried several different methods. Here is my current method:
1. Export the "main" stream from fcp5 to m2v using Compressor 2 (4.3 constant br & closed GOP) with the appropriate chapter markers.
2. Export the 7 different mixed-angle pieces from fcp to m2v using the same Compressor settings.
3. Add 'main' m2v file to dvdsp3, and plug in the 7 mixed angle sections on the second video stream
4. There are no GOP errors and it simulates perfectly
5. It will not build, or burn.
Another method I've tried is exporting the "main" stream as (14) pieces (and hence no markers) and putting all the m2v pieces into dvdsp together. I create the markers at the beginning of each clip, then insert the mixed angle pieces (on the second video stream). Again, no GOP issues and it simulates perfectly, but it fails on the build/burn.
Also: When I put the first 3 (of 7) mixed angle pieces on the second video stream, the project builds/burns and works fine. If I add any of the other mixed angle pieces, it gives me the "Incompatible Angle VOBUs", or the "Internal Mixer error".
Does anyone have any suggestions? or any methods for creating mixed-angle dvds?

I've found a work around to 'solve' my problem. (And the work-around doesn't make any sense)
Work-Around: I split my ~38 minute piece into 2 tracks (with a end jump on track 1 to go to track 2).
I put half of my clips on Track 1, create markers, and place the mixed angle pieces in the appropriate places. I keep on adding pieces until the project won't build. Then, I put the next pieces on Track 2 and repeat the Track 1 process (and add the end jump on Track 1). Everything works correctly and the dvd builds/burns.
I just started a similar mixed angle project with different footage and I get the exact same errors ("Incompatible Angle VOBUs", or "Internal Muxer Error"). I don't want to say this is a dvdsp3 bug, but the sentiment is on the tip of my tongue. This is a "Pro App", correct?
My work-around makes no sense.
Is DVDSP4 any better for this type of work?
For the small subset of people working on mixed-angle and multi-angle dvds, are you getting them to work correctly? I've noticed several people using the QT export as self-containted movie trick. You shouldn't have to do that to get your project to work correctly.

  • Advanced mixed-angle "illegal angle situation"...stumped!!

First off, I would like to thank in advance anyone who takes the time to read my detailed post and tries to help. I have read the posts on this topic before, but I have not been able to solve my problem.
    In detail:
I am doing a project for a client, and part of this project involves a mixed-angle track. We shot several different camera angles of his car (two from within the car, one stable tripod shot as the car passed the camera coming towards you, one stable shot as the car passed driving away from you). There were four different angles shot, and one combined FCP shot showing all four simultaneously for a total of 5)
    Step one-the angles:
Angle 1 (V1): From 01:00:00:00 to 01:01:02:22 (A FCP edited shot with all the clips sized down to about 40% of original size so all angles are visible simultaneously.)
Angle 2 (V2): From 01:00:00:00 to 01:01:02:22 (A shot of taken from the sunroof view of the car as it drives. This shot is the only one with the same length as Angle0)
Angle 3 (V3) From 01:00:03:01 to 01:00:51:25 (A shot taken from the passenger side as the car drives with the rear view mirror slightly in shot. As you see, this shot does NOT run the length of V1 or V2)
Angle 4 (V4) From 01:00:11:11 to 01:00:28:28 (A tripod shot taken from a specific spot on the road with "its back" to the car as it comes towards the camera, so the view is of the car as it is driving away)
Angle 5 (V5) From 01:00:27:17 to 01:00:50:22 (Another tripod still video shot taken from a different spot on the road facing the car as it comes towards the camera, so that the view of the car is an approaching view, and the car passes the camera.
Audio is a combined sound of all four events as they occur mixed togther to form one Dolby 2.0 ac3 stream at 192kbs.
All of these shots are synched up as they happened in real time, and in looking at the various FCP timecodes, you can see that the different video angles "weave" in and out of one another.
Some various markers were placed on the footage in synching it up (NOT chapter markers for this purpose..only timing) and those were left in the individual clips.
Step two-once the video was synched, a separate FCP sequence was created for each angle to be encoded for use in DVDSP4. I then placed Chapter markers-precisely accurate to the frame where EACH video event intersected another. (Example: Angle starts at 01:00:03:01 so I put chapter markers at this precise point on angle 1 and 2 as well) Chapter markers were placed on any and all intersections of beginnings or ends of the angles that weaved in and out of other angles. This was done so the GOP's would match for later transcoding.
    Step three-transcoding with Compressor.
    Exact setttings for first run..
Video-(apple preset) DVD: Best Quality 120 minutes - 4:3. The ONLY change made to the audio or video preset was checking the INCLUDE CHAPTER MARKERS ONLY box in the extras portion of the video encoders for all tracks so the encoding would ignore all markers but my chapter placements.
Audio-Dolby 2.0 preset within the blanket apple preset mentioned above.
Step four-Entry into DVDSP track for trial run.
    Exact steps:
    Dropped angle 1 into V1
Dropped angles 2-5 into V2-V5 in accordance to the chapter markers governing where these angles should be "sandwiched." No problems here...no error messages. Flawless. Everything going well to this point.
Step 5-Ctrl, Simulate Track...and...here it comes...
"Warning-Illegal angle situation. Only the main video angle will be simulated."
Step 6-Went to Apple Discussion boards. Saw the various posts regarding the maximum bit rate being lower than 7 just to be on the safe side, and VBR turned off to be absolutely safe.
Step 7-Re-transcode all video angles with one pass, non VBR, "include chapter markers only" checked, and max bit rate of 6.5-same audio file as orginal attempt. Dropped video angles again into the respective timing containers in DVDSP. Once again, we get "Warning-illegal angle situation. Only the main video angle will be simulated."
I am stumped. I have tried to describe my process up to this point as precisely as possible and am also on a strict deadline. The mixed-angle feature was a big selling feature for us to this client. I know and hope the answer to this issue is something simple.
Again, thank you in advance! These message boards have always been a great help because of the generosity of those in the Mac family!!

Thank you all for your responses. Here are my several confusions, however.
As long as the GOP's line up, I was under the impression that a MIXED, (not a MULTI) angle project does NOT have to have clips of the same length. Or at least this is what I read in the Ramseier/Sitter Certified training book on DVDSP. This is pulled right from the book:
    "About Alternate Angles
DVDSP lets you create two different types of alternate angle tracks:
Multi-angle tracks, in which each angle is exactly the same length as the main video stream.
Mixed-angle tracks, which include alternate video streams that are shorter in duration than the main video stream. Where there's a space in the mixed-angle stream, DVD players revert to the main video stream, which they play until the mixed angle appears again. Mixed angles save disc space for alternate angle streams that do not need to run the length of the entire track. Technically, all angles in the mixed-angle tracks must be sandwiched by markers-one marker at the front, and one marker at the back."
The frustration of this is that I have been successful with Multi-angle tracks. Because I am working with a DVD-5, I cannot afford the space to have ALL these angles run the length of the entire mixed angle clip that I mentioned above. Chapter markers were placed at all intersecting points to the frame, and "include chapter markers only" was checked so that the GOP's would line up precisely with one another.
The only thing I have not tried is compressing at the lowest possible CBR I can while trying to maintain the quality of this footage with minimal motion artifacts. As I said, this is footage of several angles of a car accelerating to the speed of 85mph...so I am also limited to how low I can compress because I will get nothing but blur after awhile. I will try to recompress with the lowest possible CBR as suggested.
This is such a small part in the perspective of the overall whole of this project for my client, but it is extremely important. Again, I appreciate all support and free-time you all have given, and any additional detailed suggestions are desperately welcomed!
    Peace

  • Multi-angle is piece of cake, mixed angle is too much of a headache

When Keith Buckner asked me "Can you take that off?" (referring to the 3D soundscaping footage in the left half of the split screen in the Music of Engineering DVD), it gave me an idea: give a little usefulness to the Angle button by allowing viewers to see just the live concert footage or just the soundscaping footage. But I decided to do it just for Keith's piece, +Kinetic Energy+.
The DVD Studio Pro manual made it sound like I can just drop them on the timeline. But as y'all can already predict, a ton of GPO error messages ensued. Then I decided to make it a separate special feature, exporting the two angles and the sound as three separate files each lasting 5:26.65. Put them together in the timeline, change the targets of the relevant menu buttons, and everything ran smoothly. I didn't have to worry about I, B or P frames one bit, DVD Studio Pro took care of everything.
I wonder if DVD Studio Pro has a blade tool like Final Cut, and I'm certain it is possible to make mixed angle work. But I'm happy with the two separated angles being a special feature by themselves. Though I have yet to talk to Keith and ask him what he thought of it.

  • Dual layer mixed-angle problems

I'm working on a dual layer mixed-angle project. Everything simulates fine, but the problem somes when trying to build it.
I get a "video bit rate too high" error when muxing. I had lowered the max bit rate in compressor to 5.8m The audio is encoded to AC3 using compressor.
I had previously done some test discs for my client and everything was fine. So I went back to the check disc and began adding assets one at a time to try and figure out where the problem is.
Every built fine until I cross the single layer limit. The dual layer property is checked in the disk properties. I've tried setting last marker before the disc won't build to a layer break point, etc.
    Any ideas?

Hi there, are you far over the limit for single layer disc? If you're between 5 & 6 gig try building the disc as a single layer project to your hard drive then use DVDRemaster or DVD2One to shrink it back to 4.4gig. Don't know if it will work but might be worth a try. Was your original client test done in DVDSP3 or 4?
    Cheers

  • Problem creating mixed angle DVD

When importing the 2nd angle track I get the message :
The Video Asset angle.m2v is only usable up to 00:00:1;00. Use the first part of the asset anyway
I have the DVD SP training book and I know what the message means. However in comprossor I can clearly see I have no markers set and I am using the same closed GOP settings for both angles. Any thoughts besides going to CBR? I have a 2 hour movie that I just want to add some short angle segments for and I don't want to do CBR on the long movie. Thanks.

    Hi Craig
    Welcome to the forum.
I had a similar problem with a mixed angle DVD and it turned out to be a corrupted chapter marker in the track. I basically had to find it by trial and error, deleting half the markers and trying a build, if it worked I'd go back to the other half and delete half again, etc until I found it. In the end, after deleting the marker and replacing it I found that the build would always fail if the marker was placed at that particular GOP boundary - one boundary either side was fine but I'd get the muxer error every time if I tried to put it at that specific point.
If that doesn't work for you another thing I would suggest is to re-encode your footage from self contained movies of your tracks and don't use compression markers. Edit points out of FCP and compression markers force I-frames in the mpeg to give you a better quality cut in the mpeg. If the I-frames from one stream don't match up properly with the I-frames of another (you can have i-frames within a GOP but only I-frames can form the GOP boundaries) you could be getting GOP boundary mismatch error which isn't being picked up before the build - Internal Muxer Error covers a wide range of problems and isn't particularly descriptive.
    Hope some of this helps.
    Good luck

  • Mixed Angle Error during simulation

I'm trying to build a mixed-angle project in DVDSP 4.2.0. I've encoded both the main V1 track as VBR with only chapter markers, closed GOP and in Compressor settings made sure the "include chapter markers only" option was checked to prevent any forced I-frames.
When importing the alternate angles into the V2-V9 streams everything goes fine, cell markers are placed both at the beginning and end of the angle and all angles are exactly the same length. However during simulation I get the "Illegal angle situation..." error message. I've gone over settings both from exporting the file from FCP and Compressor - everything checks out according to both the DVDSP4 manual and the Compressor Guide from Brian Gary - can't make heads or tails of it.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated as I'm on deadline.

I had accidentally done two things wrong:
    1. I did not send out the main V1 streams from FCP with "DVD Studio Pro" markers, but Chapter Markers instead, and;
    2. I manually put a chapter marker at the beginning of the very first chapter. DVDSP4 automatically puts one there called "start".
Now all my mixed angles work perfectly throughout the 2 discs - all 59 of them!
Nothing like finding your own answers!! (^_*)

  • Bit Rate for Mixed angle DVD

What bit rate will give an decent quality image if there are 4 video streams (v1-edited video,v2-4 source angles), 1 ac-3 audio stream, 1 mpeg1 audio stream. Three of the video streams are alternate angles that popup for brief ( 1 to 5 minutes ) periods of time in a 1 hour wedding ceremony. I guest the safe bit rate for all streams is around 8.5, the manuals say the max is 10.3 mbps. Can I mix bitrates for video in a mixed-angle track or do they all need to be the same?, is four video tracks just too much info ?
Thanks for all the help !

One last question; if there are four user selectable streams are you adding up the bitrate for all streams or is the total just the stream that's being played plus any audio that gives you your total ?
    thanks

  • Mixed angle tracks .. I get error message

I've made 2 mpeg-2 files (same length - same encoder - same settings) and they look identical in the inspector, but I get 'Incompatible GOP structure' message every time I try to add to v2 (or v3, 4 etc).
I've looked everywhere for the answer, can anyone give me a clue? Thanks

    Hi:
Check the page 69 in the DVDSP User Manual in Chapter 2, Preparing Assets, in Using Final Cut and Compressor topic:
The embedded MPEG encoder ignores the automatic compression markers, since they can alter the GOP structure and make the clip unusable for mixed- and multi-angle tracks.
    Probably it can help you.

  • ITunes 9 Genius Mixes (having issues)

I turned off Genius, turned it back on to get Genius Mixes and have not been able to actually play a Genius Mix yet! When I go to the Genius Mix icon and then try and select a Mix, I hit the Play button that appears in the middle of the 4 random cd cover artworks and nothing happens. Well, sometimes, the beach ball shows up and iTunes just stalls! What is going on here? Why doesn't music start playing? Has anyone else had this issue?

"All I needed to do was check all files, update genius results and Mixes worked properly. Short end of it...Genius only had a few songs, so while the mixes saw my collection, the only relevant tracks to pull from was 14, so the genre wouldn't play if no tracks were in my genius profile....arrrg "
Same problem since update! Maddening. So where did you "check all files" ?
I can see the 12 mixes, some play right away and others do nothing or get the BBOD/force quit. I've got 2700+ items in my Music list so ought to be enough for some of these. How do you see what is in the mix, or can you?

  • How to go back and change an edited angle to another angle in Multi-cam.

I almost completed my project but I noticed one of the camera angles I edited had someone walk right infront of the cam, so I would like to switch cam angles but dont know how to go about doing that without messing things up..
I am still very much a fcpx noob.
    Thanks

Control click on the clip you want to change; Choose Active Video Angle and select from the drop down.

  • Rip a single angle from dual-angle DVD

I am trying to rip a single angle from a dual angle DVD we have produced. I don't want to transcode the footage, but rather just demux it to the two original elementary streams. I have tried using MPEGStreamclip, but it seems to interleave the two angles in the resulting MPEG. Anyone have any tricks to demuxing just a certain angle?

    Hi
+1) I will get the most compression (lowest quality) if I burn it on a single layer DVD because there is less space available.+
Not surely so. iDVD doesn't care about GBs at all - only movie duration time
    (including time for iDVD menues)
iDVD 8 and 9 has three levels of qualities iDVD 6 has the two last ones
for Single layer DVDs (DL - about double the time)
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
So If Your movie is less than 120 minutes and You use a very simple menu eg "Brushed
    Metal" no animation or audio.
Then I doubt that You'll get any better quality with DL-DVDs
+2) If i use a dual layer DVD, the compression should be better because of the additional space.+
Not if Your movie is less than 120 minutes. iDVD doesn't optimize after space.
(Roxio Toast™ can do this as I understands it)
+3) If i use a blu ray DVD and burner, I can create the least compression, possibly none (if I can reduce movie to 40gb from 41), therefore best quality (yes, I know it will only play on blu ray players).+
No version of iDVD can address any Blue-Ray DVD burner AT ALL.
    (Roxio Toast™ can do this)
Hopefully being of any help Yours Bengt W

  • Z87-G45 onboard sound mixing channels issue

I'm using a 5.1 audio setup and having an issue with the subwoofer channel also playing at a slightly lower level through both front channels. I've  checked the creative audio HQ menu to make sure the fronts were not check to "full range" speakers, but it didn't help. I've tried removing the device and reinstalling the drivers, still same issue. I noticed this when trying to listen to music and it seemed like the satellites were trying to produce bass, making it terrible to listen to.
This is a new system, Intel 4670k, 8G Gskill ram, 9800 gtx+ graphics. The old system had a dedicated sound blaster live card that worked fine.
    Any ideas would be great!

Well it's still playing a subtle level through the fronts, it's tolerable for most music, but you can play anything like dubstep or anything with heavy bass, hopefully they will find a fix for this.

  • SharePoint Provider Hosted App: mixed content issue

We have a provider hosted app that needs the SharePoint javascript and CSS files, so in our MVC view we added the following code:

The provider hosted app runs in HTTPS, our SharePoint environment in HTTP.
The app wants to get those SharePoint javascript and CSS files, but blocked because you try to access files from HTTPS to HTTP.
Example of the error in IE:
SEC7111: HTTPS security is compromised by http://ap/project/blabla/_layouts/15/sp.ui.controls.js
Example of an error in Chrome:

  • Leopard and Mixed OS Issues

I have recently installed Leopard on two of our workstations. The first issue was not being able to access my Windows Workgroup so I could print to a Windows based RIP and printer. It is grayed out like there is no workgroup on the network but other older OS's can see it. Still have not resolved this. We could print from 10.4 with no problem so I am sure this is an Apple problem.
The second thing is saving files to our server. It is running Windows 2000 Server. I created a new folder on the server and when I went to another machine to open or print it said I did not have enough permissions to access. I had to copy the file to another server to be able to see it and print. The icon it places on the folder is either a red circle with a minus sign or what looks like a belt around the folder. This seems very strange. We never had issues such as this until Leopard. Well, we did have file name length issues with 10.4 but nothing like this. Again, I'm sure this is an Apple problem.
I swear I will never again jump on the new OS bandwagon so quickly again. Now I will write this 10,000 times to punish myself.

Any folder I create from the Leopard workstation on our PC file server is not accessible from other workstations. It says I do not have enough permissions to access. This is surely not normal as I never had this problem with any other OS install I have ever done. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to resolve this issue? Now I have to go to another workstation running an older OS and create my folders. While this is not a big deal it still needs to be addressed.
