"Incompatible file"

No mater what I do, I'm getting an incompatible format error when importing .mov files into DVD SP4.
I've tried several different .mov files, created on export from FCP as a self contained quicktime movie.
The file is NTSC SD, and about 10 minutes in length on an 18.1mb file. I was able to import it into iDVD so why not DvdSP?

I would Export using the "QuickTime Movie" option in FCP. Bring that file into Compressor, where you will create an MPEG-2 of the video and a .ac3 file of the audio. Bring those into DVD SP.
There are tutorials here, to help you out;

  • Lightroom 1.0; request minimal importing and placeholders for incompatible files

It's distressing to find out the Lightroom 1.0 still insists that PSD files be saved with maximize compatibility, at the expense of a huge increase in file size, simply to have it be shown among the files an imported folder. While I have no need for every image file type to be editable in LR directly, I'd at least like to know where it is among other related files in the imported folder. Bridge shows every file in a folder regardless of whether it's an image file or it's compatible with previewing or editing.
So what I'd like is an option when importing files (perhaps by reference in the existing location if that's an issue) to allow incompatible file types to be imported anyway and show with an icon placeholder. This is just a common sense feature since the reason, frequently, why people save PSD files without "maximize compatibility" is to minimize file size and time to save the file. Such a placeholder file should then be editable only using a designated external application.

    Hi, gillian -
OS 9 is preset to reconnect to all hardware present the last time it was shut down. This includes a printer - it is difficult to get an OS 9 install to ignore all printers, that is, to accept a no-printer status.
    However, try this -
    • Go into the Printing Prefs folder (System Folder >> Preferences >> Printing Prefs), locate and throw away the file named LaserWriter 8 Prefs, and any similar preferences file which may be there, especially one carrying the HP or the printer designation.
If you had set up desktop printing in the past, also go into the Parsed PPD Folder (which is in the Printing Prefs folder) and toss out the ppd file bearing your old pronter designation.
Then restart. Zap the PRAM on this startup (this will clear any preset printer config which may be lurking in PRAM). If you're not familair with doing this - immediately upon hearing the startup chime press the Command-Option-P-R keys (it's not an accident that it usually takes two hands to press all four at the same time), keep them held down until you've heard three additional sets of startup chimes. Then let startup resume.
    • If that does not clear the issue, then you may need to set up a virtual printer. You can do that using the Desktop Printer Utility which was installed as part of a standard OS 9 install (you may need to use Sherlock to search for it). Select the "Printer (no printer connnection)" item and follow the prompts.
Another item which can cause a long delay at startup is the machine trying to connect to a no-longer-available server. To fix that, open the Servers folder (in System Folder) and trash the aliases to all servers you do not want to have the machine auto-connect to at startup. If the machine is stand-alone, you probably need nothing in that folder.

  • "AddressBook-v22.abcddb.incompatible" files keep appearing in Trash.

NOTE: I am using an AFP mounted network home from an OS X Server. This is very important to keep in mind. If you don't have actual experience with this environment, please don't answer. Thanks!
    * AddressBook-v22.abcddb.incompatible files keep appearing in ~/.Trash
    * I have already rebuilt the database, rebooted, logged in/out.
    * I have already removed the files, purged the Address Book database, and re-synced from MobileMe.
    * The files continue to appear.
This ONLY occurs on the 10.6.x machines. It does NOT happen on 10.5.
Has anybody else seen this and been able to resolve it in a network home environment? Thanks!

    Hi,
I’m using a 10.6 Server with OD network accounts. I had the same files appear when a user was logging in on a client running 10.5 (PPC Mac) and the next time on a 10.6 client. Sometimes when this happened the user’s address book was completely empty and had to be restored from backup. The problem went away when we started to only use 10.6 clients. Of course this meant to replace all the PPC Macs with Intels...

PS: You should post such questions in the Mac OS X Server forum so you don’t get unwanted responses.

  • "Incompatible files" No install disk. Now what?

I have an old iMac -350 MHz G3 running OS 9.1- that I only use with my workhorse of a scanner. I've tried to network via Ethernet and a router with my newer iMac -1.8 GHz G5 running OS 10.3.9- with intermittent success. Sometimes an icon comes up on either computer usually after restarting one or the other, usually not.
*My problem is this:* My old iMac hangs up at the restart. Everything loaded, I could see the desktop but all was frozen for a few minutes while the system did something with "HP LaserJet Engine" (an old printer which I no longer have).
Having forgotten the ol' extensions-manager-magic, I went into the system folder and trashed the file, any file with HP. Now it hangss even longer at startup, at least 5 minutes. I tried to rectify it with the extensions manager, no dice.
Disk First Aid says it appears to be ok. I ran Conflict Catcher and IT says the following files are incompatible: Apple Enet, AppleShare, Open Transport Networking Group, and Shared Manager Library... in other words, the extensions I need for networking.
*My question is this:* I don't have the original OS 9 install disks anymore, although I did find one for OS 8.5. Can I retro-install 8.5? I don't need anything on the computer except for the scanner and Photoshop 5.5 and both apparently work with 8.5.
To summarize, I really am trying to eliminate the freeze at startup without losing my networking capability.

  • E60 phone seen as stuck in incompatible file trans...

I have just bought 3 G coonectivity and loaded new SIM. After lodaing I have not been able to get beyond the message above. The message on the pc suite Icon is "phone in incompatible mode. Disable via UI. (user interface on phone I have assumed. There is nothing in the phone menu to take out of that mode. It just sits there with a little phone symbol and red cross in the system tray. I've reloaded numerous times. This is on a Dell 600 laptop. In the hardware device manager for the laptop a Network controller device with a ? mark against it. This only appears after connecting the phone. It continually tries to add the device driver and fails to find it. The connection is via USB cable.

I have now resolved problem. It turned out that the docking station that I was connecting my laptop to was making the phone appear to be in File Transfer mode to the PC suite. This was compounded by the NOKIA unload option for PC Suite 6.7.4 does not remove all components properley. By going through Control Panel and add/remove s/w I removed all NOKIA software and then reloaded s/w from CD. Plugged it in without docking station and everything sprang into life. It turned out that PC suite 6.8.2 does not have the connnection configuration for Telstra Australia in its connections file. Hence I still could not connect with the new software. After sitting on hold for 40 minutes I was able to get Access point details for Telstra as "telstra.internet"

  • Relink event clips and Incompatible file error

I'm so thankful for FCPX 10.0.3 adding the relink ability to events, and I decided to put it to the test today with an updated music score.
Bad idea to do that on a project that was a day away from completion.
After relinking the 1 file that had been updated, 80% of my 1500 clips in the event library went offline. FCPX also renamed those clips in the event library directory with (fcp1) in the end of the filename.
I can manually relink most of those files, but about 15% of them I get an error when selecting relink.
I am reconnecting the file to the exact same file it was connected to in the first place, so I know that the audio source and channel counts haven't changed.
The original clips, by the way, were not copied to the final cut event library but referenced or aliased to a network drive where they are stored.
Below is the screenshot of the FCPX inspector for the missing clip, overlayed with a Quicktime inspector window with the original clip's info. As you can see, they are both 2 channel, 48khz, AAC audio. Nothing has changed. But FCPX won't let me relink it!
Help? Does anyone have any idea how to force FCPX to relink to the file?

had that problem today while copying a FCX project from another computer, I struggled a little; but at the end I finally made it...
    It's reather simple...
First of all locate all your original files in the Finder.
Then, in Final Cut X, delete all the missing videos from your event, in event browser (cmd+a & cmnd+delete) NOT THE EVENT ONLY THE VIDEOS, it will warn you something I don't remember, you just hit ok...
Then in the event you have the funny icons "Import Files" & "Import from Camera", hit the "Import Files" logo, and import all your original files that you previouslly located in the Finder.
Finally you select all your "missing" videos in your TIMELINE and then you go to "File", "Relink Project Files", and then "Locate All..." Now you just have to find the "Original Media" folder (normally: User/Movies/Final Cut Events/"Event Name"/Original Media) So now that you have the "Original Media" folder selected just click "Choose" and let FCX analize it and voilá! You're good to go!
If you need screen captures let me know.
    Cheers!

  • Downloading incompatible files

my friend sends me funny videos that i can't open on my new iMac. most are .wmv files. where can i download a converter that will open these files (i prefer to do this only from the apple site)?

Do you still have the G4 to test this .wmv file or can you be sure the same file played at higher resolution when you had it? In Quicktime preferences, check "Use high-quality video setting when available" is ticked. I don't know how to identify which of your plug-ins Quicktime decides to use but if you've only got Flip4Mac and Perian installed (check /Library/Quicktime) select the file and get info (Apple + I) and look at "Open with" setting. If Flip4Mac is employed you'll see WMV Player.app
If you drop the file into the address bar of Safari and the controller is not hidden you can click the down arrow to find out which plug-in is used - but this is Safari's plug-in choice which is not necessarily the same as Quicktime Player's (standalone) choice.

  • Incompatible file format?

Hi. Made a quick QuickTime preview movie for a DVD project, and when I try to drag the clip into the preview movie window, I am told that it is not a compatible format (using DVD Studio Pro version 3.0.2). QuickTime incompatible? You've got to be kidding me. Anyhoo, I've made a previous DVD about six months ago and that worked okay, but I have no recollection as to what I did, and I'm pretty lost on this program. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ben
    PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5Ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   3GB RAM, 250GB hard drive

Hello. I exported the clip from quicktime into a quicktime format. I'm not sure what codec it is using, as I don't know where to check that. But it has a .mov extention. The clip is a one minute highlight clip of a longer piece. I want to put the clip into the "movie preview" window in DVD Studio Pro. The end result will be a DVD disc. I don't know if it is in mpeg 1 format. When I "get info" on the movie clip, it says QuickTime Movie. I don't know what sequence settings are. Where can I check them? Are they in QuickTime? I hope this makes a little more sense.
    Thanks,

  • 2 incompatible file formats for a video project in FCP HD Academic?

Hi, I have Final Cut Pro HD Academic.  I'm working on a video shot with 2 different types of cameras, one with a memory card, one with a tape.  The files shot with the memory card camera are letterboxed and the ones shot on tape are not.  Both files seem to be almost identical when you look at the specs.  I'd like to figure out how to make the files either all letterboxed or all fill the screen, but not a mix of both.  Any suggestions? Here are what the files look like:

You have a choice - either enlarge the letterbosed clips to fill the 4:3 screen (by using the scaling control for the clip). This enlargement will degrade the image, OR, on the clips that are not letterboxed, go to Effects > Matte > Widescreen and apply the Widescreen filter to the clip on the timeline. This will make the 4:3 full screen video appear letterboxed. You will loose some of the screen image when you do so, as it will be covered by the black bars of letterboxing.
    Your choice.

  • Incompatible files (due to removed audio) when relinking files

I recently finished editing a project referencing files from 2 drives, my external that has all the raw footage on it and the internal HD.  I understand that was my first mistake after reading a couple of these blog responses.
At first it played fine in the FCPX 10.0.6 software but now after relinking and checking the "copy to event folder" option I get an error saying "the referenced files are not compatible with event clips".
Now I have the clips in the event browser and they are unrecognized. I am pretty sure that the clips that are not relinking are doing so because I "detached the audio" on said clips and the raw footage I'm trying to reference still has audio on it.  I say this becasue the clips where I just turned the audio down are still relinking just fine.  This is very frustrating! PLEASE HELP ME RELINK these clips!
I have hours of edits that are now showing up as BLACK clips.  Its especially frustrating as I can see the actual clips in the event folder/browser but they will not link.  How do I get these clips to relink???
    Thanks in advace.
