Incompatible Graphics card

Good afternoon all. I work for a local school district. It is the time of year to reimage all of our machines. I was told when making an image use your newest, fastest Mac (eMac in this case) to build an image on. I start out my image process with running the system restore disk from scratch. When I run iMovie it comes up with this message. "Your commputer contains a graphics card which may not support iMovie. iMove requires a Quartz Extreme Compatible Graphics card." I looked under the system profiler and it seems fine. Any thoughts?
XServe,eMac,iMac, iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I just read your post about "Playback is jerking". I think it has to do with one of the software updates to iMovie. We were running 10.4.5 all last year andd iMove worked fiine. Ever since I went to 10.4.9 we started getting that error. When I go to system profiler, my graphics card says that quartz extreme is enabled. The problem for me now is I'm starting to re-image around 500 eMacs. I can't go around and replace video cards.

  • Any word on the sims 3 freezing issue on nividia 320m graphics card being fixed anytime soon?

everytime i try to play the sims 3 on my 2011 13" macbook running os x lion it freezes afer several minutes. after doing research I found out it was because of an incompatible graphics card. any word on this being fixed anytime soon? or any way to get around this?

try updating linon to 10.7.2 plus there is a updated from electronic arts if you haven't done so already.  I have a macbook with a nvidia 9400 which had the same problem.  As soon as I downloaded the update from EA it solved the problem.  The update from EA was done back on September 1st 2011.

  • Freezing Macbook Pro. Graphical glitches and occasional 3 tones on start up. Hardware test shows no errors. Is it RAM or a graphics card on the way out, or software?

Recently my MacBook Pro has been freezing and showing bad graphical glitches. Multiple restarts eventually fix it and a couple of times the three tones break, three tones break warning has occurred on start up. From what I can find this is usually a RAM error but after doing a hardware check I get the response all is OK. This still happens after the check and I am unsure what the problem could be. Can anyone help? Could it be a memory issue, a hard drive issue, Graphics card issue (drivers are up to date) or is something up with the software. I also have a Bootcamp partition running Windows 7 too and this is a problem that presents itself there too.

    Most likely to be RAM:
    Beeps on startup:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images.
5 beeps = processor is not usable

I would suggest you take it to an Apple Store for a free diagnostic.

  • Speaker problem with t420i and adding a new graphics card question

I bought a t420i about a month ago and noticed that the speakers could not properly handle muliple sounds at once.  What happens is that, say in a music video, the music plays loud and clear, but once the lyrics start the background music fades a bit to about 85% of it's original volume.  I had returned the laptop because of this problem but the replacement I got has the SAME exact problem.
In case im not clear, try this example.  You know the beeping noise you get when you press an incompatible set of keys?  ( like g, h, and b).  When I have this noise going simultaneously with a song, the song's sound fades a bit.
This does not happen with headphones, therefore i believe the problem is with the way the speakers are programmed.
Also, if I bought a t420 with just integrated graphics, could I still add a new graphics card?  Or can you only add a new graphics card to a thinkpad that initially comes with discrete graphics?

I think the main purpose of the nvs4200m is the ability to use three displays (internal + 2 external). Additionally, nVidia has better driver support for games so even though it is around the same speed, the drivers are better.
The shared ram is still used, unless you disable the HD3000 in the BIOS and run with only the nvs4200m at all times.

    Hi-
Almost any card will be faster than the 5200.
All OEM cards from the 9600 on will be faster.
For HD, get an OEM Geforce 6800 GT or Ultra, or an OEM Radeon X800 XT.
A flashed Geforce 6800 GT or Geforce 7800 GS may provide a more economical option.
eBay is your best source for Mac compatible cards.
In your search, be sure to include the terms "Mac" or "Apple" and "G5" or you will end up with incompatible options as well.
Here is a list of all possible options, listed from slowest to fastest, as well as explanation of the potential flashed (converted WinPC card) options:

  • Official list of supported graphics cards for HP IPISB-CH2 motherboard

    Hi,
Is there any official list of supported graphics cards for HP motherboards (specifically HP IPISB-CH2 (Chicago))?
I've been trying to upgrade my graphics for MSI GTX 960, but found out the MB's BIOS (v. 7.12) is incompatible and there's no BIOS upgrade available that would solve this problem. I have returned the 960 and wanted to try the GTX 660, but a few people told me they've also been having BIOS compatibility issues with this one.
The only info I found was that the MB "Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards" (source: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02854392 ) - which is a very insufficient description (as the GTX 960 meets it and doesn't work anyway).

    Hi,
There are three versions of the motherboard, in the official web site  can see that detail parts, desktops using IPISB-CH2 (Chicago) from factory, and video cards are installed on them.
Another thing to keep in mind is that if the graph is more powerful requiring a power of more watts.

  • Search for a compatible Graphic card

    Hi,
I had purchased a Desktop (Compaq Presario SR1921IL) in the year 2006.
Configuration : PD-820(2.8GHz), 160GB SATA HDD, 256MB RAM, DVD Combo Drive, MODEM, FREE DOS.
It has Ati Radeaon xpress 200 integrated graphic card.
Later on I upgraded RAM from 256 to 1GB, and OS to Windoxs XP
I was able 2 play games released before 2005-06 flawlessly but my graphic card (Ati Radeaon xpress 200) didnt support games relaesed after that.
So now, I want to upgrade the graphic card for gaming purpose.  I understandd that even after updrading there will b limitations and I wont b able 2 play the latest games, still I would like 2 upgrade & push my CPU to the limitations.
    Plsss help me...

Here are the specs for your Compaq Presario SR1921IL Desktop Computer. Based on the specs, this model should support the use of most v1.0, v1.1, and v2.0 PCIe x16 graphics cards. Examples of these cards can be found HERE. You may wish to stay away from any Radeon HD 5xxx model, as there are reports that these are incompatible with some older HP/Compaq models. You may also need to upgrade the power supply to meet the needs of your new video card depending on what you select.

  • Can't Update Boot Camp Graphics Card Driver

    Greetings,
    I have an iMac (2011) running 10.7.2
I created a windows partition (windows 7 Ultimate edition) which has played Crysis II, Fallout New Vegas, etc.
I recently bought Battlefield 3 and, when I try to run it, it says that my Graphics Card Drivers are out of date. As a result, the game continuously crashes (despite the iMac easily being able to run the game).
What are my options for updating the drivers? I know that updates are usually in the form of software updates, directly from Apple.
Am I simply screwed until they decide to update their drivers?
A little clarification: I'm trying to install the "catalyst mobility 64-bit utility" for Windows 7 (64-Bit).
When I try to update my driver, through the AMD website it says
"AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer. Your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter"
    Any ideas?

Hi,W7 Professional 32-bit160Gb hard drive, 2.25Gb RAM Long story but was given this HP computer by a friend when a custom built Intel i5 over-clocked computer ceased to function. On receiving the i5 item I realised I could not hook it up to my existing screens and so my local computer shop sold me the above graphics card.  i5 computer has now gone back to manufacturer leaving me with a graphics card that does not seem to fit in the HP motherboard despite its LP bracket. I am no computer expert but when I opened the HP case to offer up the graphics card it appears to have incompatible "contact surfaces" (don't know proper name); can anyone confirm that this is true?I don't want to force it or fit LP bracket etc if the card will not work with the HP computer.ThanksAndrew

  • [p7-1240] How can I tell which graphics cards will work with my motherboard?

I recently went through the nightmare of trying to install a Gigabyte GTX 650 in my PC. After a few days of struggling and scouring the internet for answers, I discovered that it is incompatible with the BIOS on my motherboard, and HP does not offer BIOS updates. I returned the card and am now looking for a new one, but I am unsure of which cards will work now, since my computer met all of the system requirements for the graphics card, and It stil ldid not work. Since GPU manufacturers do not list BIOS specs under system requirements, how can I tell if a graphics card will work with my sytem?

    Thexn, welcome to the forum.
The problem is, many of the newer video cards require the computer to have a full UEFI BIOS.  HP began using one in mid-October, 2012.  Before this date the BIOS is Legacy.  This is why the video card didn't work with your computer.
I don't know what you want to spend for a card, but MSI makes a GTX 750ti that has a hybrid VBIOS.  It has a switch to change to Legacy or UEFI.  There is a video link directly below the picture of a card.  Paul from Newegg gives a full description of the card.
I like EVGA cards the best.  Their Tech Support has given me a lot of information about their cards.  However, you have to go back to a GT 640 card to find one of their cards that doesn't require the UEFI BIOS.  They do have some updates for their BIOS'es that solve the problem, but you have to call them for the exact cards.

  • ATI Radeon 4870 Graphic Card - Minor Problems with Icon View

I have a MacPro 2,1 (early 2007)... Recently upgrade graphic card from ATI Radeon X1900 to ATI Radeon 4870... Works fine, except when viewing files in "icon view"... The icons are "fuzzy-like" some pixels are missing... This is seen in any size icon... small or large... or views no problem... cover view, list view, or column view...Does anyone have a working solution for this problem in icon view... Thanks

If ATi didn't specify the card you bought is designed for your Mac, then it's strictly the PC version and is incompatible with OS X. It may work correctly in Bootcamp for Windows, but not for OS X.
Your best option would be to return the 4350 and purchase a "designed for Mac" video card by ATi or nVidia cards offered on the Apple online store.

The same PC is working fine with on-board graphic after removing the GeForce210. I have replaced the PSU from 250W to 450W. Updated BIOS to Ver 3.24. My Compaq/HP PC Model No is SR1732IL. I also read this:
    2009
FYI, there are numerous reports of graphics cards with onboard or integrated HDMI audio controllers not working properly on older ATI RS480/485 (Xpress 200) and Intel 915 motherboards. The graphics function works fine but the HDMI audio controller will not install (or function) properly due to resource conflict, most likely due to a BIOS limitation. So you may find that a graphics card which has its own HD audio controller for HDMI cannot work on this older motherboard.
So if your Mobo's not likely to work with a new card (which you can usually post back at a loss ($'s)).
What Choices are there? Try to get an exact same old one?
How far forward, (newer card) dare you go before it becomes incompatible?
Everytime you have to return, theres a loss on postage. If in fact the seller will accept a return on a used item.
So where do I start to look for a card for This RC410-M Motherboard. and be confident that it will work, and not have to return at a loss, to time and money.
    Any Ideas please!
    Thanks!

  • FPS Issue on my graphics card

    Hi all,
I actually have an MSI r5870 lightning and own a PC with this configuration:
    asus p5ke
    intel q6600 (overclocked to 4.0GHz)
    8Gb (2x4) RAM corsair ddr2 800Mhz
    msi r5870 lightning (supported
With this configuration I run BF3 with about 80 fps (average) with minimum 58 fps and maximun 102 fps
Recently I acquired some components and now I have a new PC with same graphics card:
    msi z97 gaming 5 (BIOS 1.0 - 08/2014)
    intel i5 4690k
    16Gb (2x8) RAM kingston HyperX Savage 1600MHz
    msi r5870 lightning
With this new configuration (the other component as well PSU, HDD ecc. are identical) I run BF3 with about 45 fps (average) with minimum 30 fps and maximum 60 fps
I am really surprised how the PC is worsed with a new motherboard and a new processor (good for gaming).
Because you are expert on benchmarking, Is there something that I'm missing? Is it possible a similar scenario with new PC and minus performance?

What PSU do you have? Don't see it to be listed. I think of your PSU being incompatible with Haswell giving some issues.
As suggested, verify with GPUz. Also try Valley Benchmark at Extreme HD preset, and give us the results (screenshot, upload it to postimage.org and post the link between tags shown below)

Some models of the NVIDIA GTX 750 graphics cards may work.

  • Updating G5 Quad Graphics Card woes

    Hey everyone,
I have a PowerMac G5 (Quad) and the Graphics card is woefully inadequate (GeForce 6600).
I checked the Current Mac Pro specs and thought I could use the same graphics cards with my Quad - bought a Geforce 8800 GT - got home and ... OOPS!!
After putting the old card back, I checked out this message board and read a post titled "Graphics Updates" (probably just a few posts down from this one) where I found out that the Nvidia 8800GT and ATI X1900XT are incompatible with the PowerMacs, but the Nvidia 7800GT and ATI X1900GT should work.
Since there is no official Apple store in China yet, and I'd rather not make the same stupid mistake twice, can anyone tell me if there is a special "Mac Version" of these cards that I need, or can I just go and pick up one of them (Nvidia 7800GT or ATI X1900GT) up from a store and have no problems?
Just in case: do I need any power cord / adapter / other part for either of those cards to work?
    Thank you,
    Tim

Yes, there is a special Mac version of these (and any) card. The ROM on the card is different for the PC, as it needs to work with the PC's BIOS. A Mac card needs a different ROM to work with either Open Firmware (G5s) or EFI (Mac Pros). As you discovered, the Mac Pro cards work only Mac Pros, and you'd find the same to be true of the G5 cards, also due to the ROM differences.
You'll find it much easier to find the ATI X1900GT (aka G5 Edition). The 7800GT is generally only available as a replacement part, and as such, is very expensive. OWC has/had some in stock for a very reasonable price, but I have no idea if they can or will ship to China.
