Incompatible iCal versions

I copied my calendar to the desktop of my new Macbook from my old iMac and deleted all information on the old hard drive. When I attempted to open the calendar I received an alert that the version of iCal I was trying to open was not compatible with OS X 10.5.3 and could not be opened. How do I retrieve my appointments and schedules listed on the old version that includes dates into the year 2010!
Help! Help! Help!

wrush,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I copied my calendar to the desktop of my new Macbook from my old iMac...
1. What files did you copy?
2. Are you trying to open the iCal application that you copied to your Desktop?
3. What was the version of Mac OS X on the "old Mac?"
4. What version of iCal is located in your current Applications Folder?
...and deleted all information on the old hard drive.
5. Ouch...do you any backups?
;~)

  • Sync w/entourage x, iCal version 2.0.5 & most current version of iCal

    PowerBook G4 (work computer)
-Entourage X (I use calendar & contacts from the applicaiton everyday)
    - iCal version 2.0.5
**currently I am importing my Entourage calendar into my iCal and exporting my contacts from Entorage and importing them into Address book)

Can I use the .Mac sync software to sync my Entorage X information with both the iCal on my PowerBook (version 2.0.5) and my new MacBook (most current version of iCal)? The end result, I'm hoping my iPhone can sync with my MacBook which will include the most up-to-date information from both my work computer (calendar & contacts) and my home computer. I'm not sure if I should keep my new MacBook if this can't be done...so any help is greatly appreciated.

If you disable your Bonjour Service are you able to launch iTunes?
In your Start menu, right-click My Computer and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Perhaps maximise the screen to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the Bonjour Service and select "Properties".
In the General tab, set the Startup type to "Disabled":
    ... and click OK.
Restart the PC and try another iTunes launch. Any better luck then?

  • Are the ical versions compatible?

I'm trying to share calendars between two Mac machines (running different versions of Mac OS X and ical) by syncing them to my .mac account, but that doesn't seem to work. Should I be able to do this?
I reset my .mac account from both machines and uploaded my calendar from the PowerMac G5, but the mini gets nothing (actually, it deletes all of the mini's calendars when it downloads the PMG5's calendar from .mac). It's like the older version of ical can't handle the newer version of ical's calendar format (Isn't it an ".ics" file?).
I tried the whole publish/subscribe, but that didn't seem to work either. Seems like the publish from the PMG5 can't be read by the mini (maybe the same version difference). I can probably get it to work by publishing the mini, but now I can't even load the mini with an icalendar schedule from the PMG5.
I would like to be able to display and change the calendar on either machine (they are not used at the same time). Is that possible?
    My configuration is:
    1) A Mac mini running Mac OS X version 10.3.9, ical version 1.5.5 (v670), and iSync version 1.5 (v139).
    2) A PowerMac G5 running Mac OS X version 10.4.6, ical version 2.0, and the built-in .mac sync.
Should I try to start my own WebDAV server or is the problem in the different data formats between the ical versions?
I can update the mini to 10.4 if that's what I need to do.
    Mac mini (10.3.9) & Power Mac G5 (10.4.6)

Thanks for finding that info article for me. I wasn't able to find anything on this topic. Thanks!
I think I'm going to take your advice of updating to OS X 10.4.
From what I understand in the info article, I need to get the calendar on the 10.3 machine up to date with the correct calendar information to proceed. The machine that has the correct calendar is the 10.4 machine. I've tried to import an ical ics file from version 2.0, but it seems like there is something in the file that keeps the information from importing in the older version of ical. The import doesn't produce an error message, but just does nothing.
Anyway, I'm just going to take your advice and update to the 10.4.* version of OSX. Once the machines are on the same OS, I'm hoping that the .mac sync will work better.
Thanks for your help and for finding that information for me!

  • Automatic refresh does not work - multiple macs, ICAL versions, OS versions

    Hey.
I have a problem that I can't fix and I couldn't find any suitable input for.
We use ICAL on multiple macs (some of them with differing IOS and ICAL versions installed) and share differing calendar subscriptions.
    So far so good.
Unfortunately the automatic refresh doesn't work on all macs. It seems like it depends on the IOS- or ICAL- Version installed, whether the automatic refresh works or not.
    For example:
My friend creates an appointment on a shared calendar.
She uses MAC OS X 10.6.8 and ICAL 4.0.4.
    I use MAC OS X 10.8.5 and ICAL 6.0.
We both activated the automatic refresh option in our account informations and set the time interval on 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes the calendar automatically refreshes and I can see her appointment.
Unfortunately it doesn't work the other way around. When I create an appointment, she has to manually force ICAL to refresh in order to see the entry.
Any help? Any suggestions? We would really appreciate it.
    Many thanks in advance!

  • ICal (Version 3.0.8) not updating

Hi I am running iCal Version 3.0.8 on my MacBook OSX 10.5.8. My Calendar syncs between my iPhone and MobileMe, but the calebndar on my Mac shows no entries at all. I have set it up to sync with MobileMe via system prefs and I am signed in. Calendar is checked so it should sync. I have also checked the sync box within iTunes (10.2.1), to no avail. Please help! Thank you.

Thanks for your prompt reply, John-- and for NOT simply advising me to spend my kid's tuition on more of your company's products...
    Actually, I had tried the "Run as Administrator" option already, having found it in one of those other threads;
there was no change in the sequence described above.
I decided to try another possible solution which I read about in one of those other threads: opening Premiere from a different account.
    Incredibly, it WORKED-- sort of...
I got a couple of popups advising me that missing codecs had to be installed-- and upon completion, Premiere opened!
Here's an interesting note: the last file to load was still "SolidComposite.AEX"-- and the "White Screen" I kept seeing was Premiere opening normally.  The next thing that displayed was the normal  dialog box "Open/New Project"-- I entered a new project name, and Premiere started normally. I even added a few video files as a test... all opened normally.
    I returned to the Admin account to see if the fix was in here, too;
but clearly the war wasn't over, over here...
    It now appears that some personal setting in the Admin account is causing Premiere to close itself;
I've been reading about the layered security measures embedded into Windows 8-- I'm suspecting the conflict lies there...
I ran the Windows Troubleshooter & got this:
both MS & Adobe confirm that CS3 is fully compatible--here's my sytem info:
    Since I seem to have established a fall-back position that lets me use Premiere, my crisis becomes a mere conundrum;
but I know this is gonna gnaw at me anyway, & I'm hoping that this new information might suggest further troubleshooting options to someone who understands the Adobe software and/or the Windows software better than I do!
Speaking as someone who has found many solutions on forums like this over the years, I assure you:
for every person whose post you reply to, there are many more whom you will never know you have helped!!!

  • Incompatible Xalan version in IDE class path?  (Max OS X Leopard)

    Hi all,
I have been using NetBeans 6.1 for a while and all was well. I then installed a few plug-ins (including iReport, which I believe may be the problem). When I start the IDE I get the error "Incompatible Xalan version found in IDE class phat" and gives some link that didn't help. I have uninstalled NetBeans and reinstalled, which obviously didn't fix the problem. If anybody can help me at all, I would appreciate it very much. I really need this to run, I would hate to completely reinstall the OS to get it back going. Thanks in advance for any support.

    Hi,
I encountered this problem today and I'm also using Netbeans 6.1 on Mac OS X (10.5.4). It was definitely the iReports plugin. I found a solution here:
However, I only had to remove the file xalan.jar (and keep xalan-2.7.0.jar) from the ~/.netbeans/6.1/modules/ext directory. No changes to the config were required and the iReport plugin worked.

  • An incompatible xalan version has been detected on the ide's classpath OSX

    Hi all,
I have tried to install netbeans/java tools bundle on my mac, keep getting the same error.
an incompatible xalan version has been detected on the ide's classpath. The IDE cannot start. pLease see http://wiki.java.net/bin/view/Netbeans/FaqXalanOnCP for more info.
I have had a look at this website, it says to Due to a bug in Xalan, project metadata may get corrupted when a Xalan is on the IDE classpath. For this reason, the IDE refuses to start when the broken Xalan is detected on the classpath. Please remove the Xalan under jre/lib/**.
This is quite difficult as it does not tell me the path where this file exists.
Can anyone please help me out??

That "someone" is each individual Firefox user who encounters problems like this. Mozilla stopped doing its' "web evangelism" program to help and advise websites about fixing their websites. I suppose 7 years was long enough to try fixing the web, and their time was better spent concentrating on improving Firefox.
My advice is to install an older version of Firefox Portable to use at that web site, and to continue using your current version of Firefox elsewhere. <br />

  • ICal version compatible with OS X 10.4

Forgive me if this has been asked already, but is there an iCal version that is compatible with OS X 10.4?
If so, where can I find it?
    Thanks in advance.

    eric.klumb,
The OS X Tiger installation disk contains an optional installs selection which will enable you to selectively install iCal 2.0.X. After reinstalling iCal, use the OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update appropriate for your computer to update iCal to the most current version.
