  • Incompatible Ink Cartridge????

I have a Officejet 6500 wireless printer, which has always performed admirably.  However, it is now telling me that i have an incompatible ink cartridge.  Its the magenta, which has been in there for at least 2 weeks already, printing along just fine.  The HP service center tells me that the magenta is really an ink cartridge for the Photosmart printer, which is ludicrous!  We have a Photosmart, and its ink cartridge wouldnt fit in the Officejet if i tried!  I have tried installing new printer drivers, closing the printer and restarting, replacing the ink cartridges, all to no avail.  Please help!

Hi - first of all, let me apologize for how long it has taken for you to get a response. I don't know how this got overlooked.
Your Officejet 6500 uses HP 920 ink cartridges. This must be what you have installed, since you say that the cartridge worked for two weeks before you saw the Incompatible Cartridge message. When you replaced this cartridge, you replaced it with a 920 Magenta, right? And you saw exactly the same, Incompatible Cartridge, message?
I'm not sure what the service center was getting at, but there are Photosmart cartridges that look similar to the 920, but which would not work in your Officejet 6500. These cartridges would be number 564, if you are in North America. HP 564 cartridges are not compatible with the Officejet 6500.
Please let me know if you are still having problems (I sure hope you've managed to figure this out though, as it's been so long).

    Hi @soie,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are getting the incompatible ink cartridge error with your HP Photosmart c4780. I am happy to help!
Most likely by the description of your post, this printer is setup for the European Market, instead of the U.S. Market, hence getting this error message. You can try going through this guide, HP Photosmart C4600 and C4700 All-in-One Printer Series - A 'Cartridge Problem,' 'Cartridge Failed,'....

  • Counterfeit Ink Message

I just tried to print something but got a Counterfeit Ink message.  I have printed with this cartridge before with no issue.  The printer is a replacement model sent by HP, the cartridge I'm using came with this printer so it should be from HP
    Its model 3050A

I looked up the ink that the Deskjet 3050a takes and as long as the cartridge reads HP 61 that is the proper cartridge. If the ink came with the replacement printer, I would just treat this as an incompatible ink cartridge error message and troubleshoot it as that.  So I would start by removing and expecting that cartridge. Then move on the cleaning the cartridge and the cartridge contacts inside the machine. Here is a link to a document that has step by step instructions to help you out.  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02244928&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
If you reach the end of that document and still have the issue. I would do a hard reset, here are the instructions:
With the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet, and turned on, unplug the cord from the rear of the printer.
Then unplug the cord from the wall socket.
    Wait at least 30-60 seconds
Plug the power cord back into the wall socket first. If the cord has a module in it, make sure that the light on the module is lit up and then plug cord back into the rear of the printer
The printer should power back on by itself, but if not use the power button on front panel to turn machine back on.

  • How to turn off "low on ink" message?

I'm ready to strangle the HP guy who programmed in this incredibly annoying "low on ink" message that continues to flood my computer screen every 90 seconds or so. How do I turn this devil off?

Is the cartridge an HP original or a third party reman or refill?  The latter generally do not properly show ink levels.  I would suggest replacing the depleted cartridge with a fresh original HP cartridge.

  • False Low Ink Message

I have a Mac Pro which has been partitioned.  I have installed 3 different OS's on 3 of the partitions- Lion, Snow Leopard, & Leopard.  I use Snow Leopard almost excusively I have a Lexmark S415 All-In-One which I have only used as a printer, and it is connected only via a wireless network.  In response to a low ink message on my Mac, I have loaded all new black and color  cartridges.  I still have the low ink message, and the Mac still says the cartridges are low on ink and that the printer is offline.  I found that the printer was, in fact, offline, so I re-installed it onto the wireless network.  But the low ink message is still present, even though the printer says that the cartridges are filled to the top and the Mac still says that the printer is offline.
On a whim, I booted up with OS Lion and saw the same behaviour. Then I tried booting up with OS Leopard and found that the Mac was reporting that the cartridges were full, that the printer was online, and that I could print.  I've contacted Lexmark Tech Support, who advised me to re-install the printer onto the wireless network, which I've done.   Using Snow Leopard, I have downloaded and installed a Lexmark driver which is appropriate for Snow Leopard.  Can see no difference.
I'm hopeful that someone has seen similar behaviour and can point me to a solution.

Save and/or quit your applications & documents
    Go to Applications>Utilities Folder
    Click Disk Utility
Click the Volumne (HD) that you want to check.
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button. (Don't worry about verifying)
At the bottom of window when the repairs have finished, you will see the “most important thing”:
    Permission Repairs Complete
The privileges have been repaired or completed on the selected volumne.
Restart your computer to confirm repairs.
Same directions are also in the OS Mac Help Menu.
If that does not work -
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.

  • Low ink message for Deskjet D1341 connected to HP Pavillion always on

Printing continues fine and I replace the cartridge when the ink actually fades.  Is there a way to permanently disable this low ink message and is it safe to do so?

Hi - I'm not aware of any time limit with HP cartridges, other than an expiration date, due to the ink and the possibility of it drying up.  However, I wouldn't expect that to cause a low ink warning.  Try the steps in this document.  If that doesn't resolve it, you'll probably need to replace the cartridge.
    Hope that helps.

  • Incompatible Ink Cartridges

    Hello,
My printer is currently giving me the error "Incompatible Ink Cartridges." This started occurring directly after a print, a print that came out poorly (faded text). The ink cartridges are half full and have never been replaced, in other words they are the factory default cartridges that were shipped with the printer.
I've tried all recommended solutions, including taking out the cartridges and cleaning circuits on the cartridges.
The printer model is HP Photosmart D110.
Thank you to anybody who can help.

Nothing elegant about it. However, if the cartridge that was bad is geniune HP, there is a good warranty on those cartridges:

  • Fix For Incompatible Ink Cartridge(s) Error for 4280?

I was printing a series of 10 pages and on the 7th page the copy came out looking like double-vision!  The screen on the printer displays the error "Incompatible Ink Cartridge(s)".  The unit will not function at all.  I have shut down the printer, unplugged and replugged from both the rear of the printer and the wall.  I have taken out the ink cartridges and reinstalled.  Nothing works.  I find it hard to believe that I need two new ink cartridges when there never was a hint of reduced ink quality up until the point of the error.  PLEASE HELP!!!

Are you using genuine hp ink?  There are a lot of companies out there imitating HP ink cartridges which are a lot more affordable.  I dont think HP likes the competition, so its possible their printers check for an authentication.  Maybe your genuine HP cartridges aren't authenticating properly.  I have been having this problem with my j4550, as well as having read posts from other users with this problem.  Try removing and re-installing the offensive cartridges.  This works on occasion for me, but you have to do it every so often.   If this doesn't work, and if HP doesn't publish an update for the Firmware, consider the new line of Kodak printers!  They advertise their ink is cheap enough they dont have to do this.  I have used HP printers for years, but if they cant figure this one out to better suit the consumers, perhaps it is time to switch companies.

  • HP Printer 4235--incompatible ink cartridge

I need someone's help.  I was using my printer HP 4235, but had to leave for a couple of hours.  I didn't turn the computer or printer off as I was sure I was coming back to print.  Now I get the incompatible ink cartridge and this is the same cartridge that I was using 2 hours before.  It was doing a great job.  If you can't help me, and in the words of that great profit, Ralph Cramden, "This printer, to the moon Alice."  Help please.

I just finished chatting with a VERY helpful support guy on the HP website.  Apparently, my printer has "identified" my old print cartridge as a clone (non-HP) or as having been refilled.  The only problem I have with that is that it was brand new when my boss purchased it from a reputable big office supply chain.  My only option is to purchase a new print cartridge.  Guess that's what we will do, but this time I will keep the receipt until the cartridge runs out of ink.  Maybe the store would replace it instead.  Though I don't believe we found the real problem, I am impressed with the dedication of the support tech with my case.  I would love to think that your problem is different than mine, but you won't really know unless you call or chat with support.  Good luck.

  • 'incompatible ink catridges'

My hp deskjet ink advantage 5525 all in one series printer was bought from the Middle East, with original ink catridges hp655. Now here in the Philippines, after serching in hp sure supply, I got hp685 as replacement catridges, but got an error 'incompatible ink catridges' after replacing the catridges.

    Hi vdcruz,
Some of HPs printers/cartridges are customised to meet specific country needs.  Therefore they are not available in all countries. This is the case with the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 5525.  Here is some information on Ink Advantage program.  The HP685 cartridges that you purchased are not designed to work with this printer. HP655 are not available in the Phillippines.
I apologise that this wasn't made clear to you when you purchased your printer.
    Thanks,
    Francheska

  • Migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message.

Im trying to migrate to new iMac from old iMac and am getting 'incompatible software' message. I'm not sure what to do- can I revert back to snow leopard from mavericks?

    Hi Mark,
If you install Mavericks, or in your case migrate from an old computer running Snow Leopard (or an earlier version of Mac OS X) to one using Mavericks, some of your software that was designed to run on older computers may not function in the new OS. See this article -
OS X: About the incompatible software folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
    In particular -
If you see a message indicating that you can't use "this version" of an app, contact the software's vendor or visit their website to see if a later, compatible version of the app is available. If you purchased the software from the Mac App Store, use Software Update to see if an updated version is available there.
    and
During installation, OS X moves known-incompatible software to a folder named "Incompatible Software" at the top level of the startup drive. If this folder is present on your Mac, see what applications are in it, then check for available updates. To obtain a newer version of an Apple app, check the Mac App Store, or visit the Apple Store website.
Regarding installing an older operating system on your new iMac, Apple does not support doing this, as described in this article -
Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L
