Incompetent Nokia S60 devices support

I continue to not understamd why my Nokia 5630 have 128MB of ram and after booting the phone i have only 55MB of free ram. Why Nokia doesn't unlock more free ram? A device of the latest 3rd edition phones with everything including a 600Mhz processor with almost all social network, inckuding Youtube, with WLAN support. I simply don't understand. Nokia has a politic of support and marketing incompetent.

@Froschy
Absolutely right.
Nokia's main problem is that they have not developed a processor with the speed to handle everything, they coupled the weak processor with an outdated OS and too little ram/rom.
In my humble opinion the last phone from Nokia that was made and released so that it could be said to be released in it's time is the nokia N95. This phone when it was released was afaik the first with GPS (Or among the first) and it was very feature packed for it's time.
The phones nokia are releasing today would not even turn heads if they had been released 1-2 years ago.
The N97 is a good example....Not enough processor, a very old OS and a bad press-screen.
If they had made the N97 with a capable processor, enough ram and a capacitive touch screen i bet it would have been a much bigger hit than it is today.
As i have stated before.....Nokia has slept thru the last 3 years and CLEARLY shifted their attention from development to manufacturing and forgotten that in a world where a brand new phone will be obsolete in 2-3 years you cannot just lean back and assume that people will buy whatever you offer by default.
What's even worse is that the phones that they release today that is not in any way innovative but behind the competitors still have this "beta-product" about it for 6-12 months after it leaves the factory.
In the old days i could forgive Nokia that they used 6-12 months to get everything working smoothly because they were market leaders and it would be expected that new technology would be a little beta at first.
Now when they release the N97 which does not have one single innovative feature that every other manufacturer has put in some of their phones, they still release it with buggy firmware.
I swear, if i had a dollar for every time i have seen a "I have a problem with my N97" in a forum i would be VERY rich..And most is software related.

  • The Hardware of the Nokia S60 devices

Nokia continues to develop and make models based in arm 11 technology what begins to be a obesolete technology. See what happens with Samsung with Omnia HD, Sony Ericsson with Saito, Apple with Iphone 3G S and even with Palm with the Pre. All with TiOMAP 3 Cpu and PowerVR SGX graphics and 256 MB of ram memory. I don't see what Nokia have in mind but i don't glimpse a auspicious future to the future products of Nokia if they continue like this, with this stupid stubbornness. I would like to see S60 Models with these technologies and others also evolved because i ever liked Nokia and i still continue to like Nokia but lately they have desappointed me.

The diesel engines fitted to Citroën, Peugeot and some Ford cars are a common design (HDi) dating back close to a decade, they improve with time but they're still there and they are still the market leaders for that particular product line.
What's inside is only half the story, many reviews have showed the N97 to be performing very well despite the low-spec processor that had been causing many concerns. If you want a product that has the latest chip just for the sake of having the latest chip, then that is your choice - stop moaning and buy a Samsung.

  • Wanna add Nokia S60 emulators to WTK 2.5.1

    Hi, guys!
I installed the Nokia S60 3rd Edition SDK for Symbian OS, Supporting Feature Pack 2, for MIDP (Beta release) into the direcotry C:\S60 and its emulators works well with Netbeans IDE 5.5.1 with mobility pack.
Now I want to add the emulators from the Nokia S60 3rd Edition SDK to Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.5.1. I followed the instructions found in Sun Java Wireless Toolkit for CLDC User's Guide, cited below for convinience of reference:
"The procedure is usually to unpack or install the third party emulator, then copy its directory into toolkit\wtklib\devices (Windows) or into toolkit/wtklib/devices (Linux). The next time you run the toolkit, the emulator is available."
I copied the dirctory S60_3rd_MIDP_SDK_FP2_Beta from C:\S60\devices\S60_3rd_MIDP_SDK_FP2_Beta to the dirctory C:\WTK2.5.1\wtklib\devices. But I just can't find the S60 emulators in the WTK as I did in the NetBeans IDE.
Could anyone kindly tell me what's wrong with my settings? thanks a lot!

I just recently realised that that is true for my set... That there is no support for TV out-mode... I've tried, audio comes out from my TV speakers but there is no visual. Is there anything at all that I can do to utilise this feature? I have after all been supplied with the wires and all...

    Dear Nokia Careline,
The "No Return Policy" already be used here. Seem that I have no choice to go for other alternatives. Maybe I have to file the case to our local authority i.e. Tribunal Court Claim to exercise my consumer right here.
Perhaps, further blogs at Nokia discussion column, facebook, twitter might help to let others understand more about so-called Nokia Careline entertain their loyal customer.
If you insist your stand there, then I am always ready to go for my alternatives.
I won't let go unless you could satisfy me.

    Dear Mr. X,
    We appreciate your prompt reply.
We will be noting for concern as a feedback. However, please be informed Mr. Tan that Nokia has noted in the box regarding the said case.
The outage experienced by our sub-supplier was quite unexpected. Typically, the lead time for components such as this one is fairly long, and one cannot react to sudden changes at short notice. We value our relationship with our suppliers and sub-suppliers, and know that our sub-supplier is doing everything in their power to remedy the situation and return to regular supply.
The lack of TV out should not affect any other device functionalities besides that you will not be able to show/transmit pictures or video to external monitor/screen.
As Nokia does not have a replacement policy, we suggest to check with your dealer if they have a policy regarding exchanges.
    Apologies for any inconvenience.

    Dear NOKIA CARELINE,
Yap, you can tell me leaflet included & a tiny label on the pack box. But who will really check every single area of the pack box & read the whole manual or leaflet when they decided to buy the phone. What normally customer will check is the handphone and the accessories. Now you are telling me that customer have to check everything even they  buy something from a reputable company like Nokia. If I going in a shop that sell a China like Nokia 5800 handphone and I bought it then I won't have a say here at all.
I have checked with my retailer they allow me to return the unit but I can't get full refund from them. They are going deduct a couple of hundred cause they said the unit is considered used unit now. According to them instead of asking customer to wait they prefer to refund the customer. So who is going to bear for the cost now.
I certainly frustrated by getting a unit that without TV out function. If you are telling me that once manufactured the feature could not be added in, then I would say if you do have a unit with TV-out feature now you could exchange directly to your customer. Why still ask your loyal customer like me to refer to dealer or retailer. Is that what you mean after sales service or NOKIA CARELINE. You don't even care in the first place.
Your apologies certainly couldn't be accepted with reason of Nokia did include leaflet to inform and tiny sticker at the bottom of the pack box. Sound irresponsible to me at all.
What I wanna your care now, that is pls exchange a unit with TV-out feature with mine in which without such feature. Do I really put the CARELINE into difficulty position. Your reply to me is highly appreciated and also to show that you care or don't care.

    Dear Mr. X,
Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.
    Greetings!
In response to your inquiry, please be informed Mr. Tan that due to a component shortage, a limited number of Nokia 5800 Xpress Music has been manufactured without the TV-out functionality. It is possible that you have one of these devices. In that case, the sales package should have a sticker on the package and a leaflet inside the package that inform about the lack of TV-out functionality. Also, the TV-out cable has been removed from the affected sales packages.
Kindly take note Mr. Tan that it is not possible to add the feature after the device has been manufactured. Therefore we have labeled the affected sales packages with a sticker and included a leflet that inform about the lack of TV-out functionality. Those individuals who wish to have the TV-out functionality should wait for a sales package that that has it again.
The new batch of phones should have the feature back. As this matter is clearly stated in the sales package, it is not possible to return to Nokia. However, you may check with your dealer if they have a policy regarding the return of the unit in exchange for a version that has the TV-out feature. Those individuals who wish to have the TV-out functionality should wait for a sales package that that has it again.
    Apologies for any inconvenience.

  • Nokia X6 voip support

Hi guys, does anyone know if Nokia X6 can support voip or sip? I have searched in forum and Google but to no avail. Its not clear whether it can support voip. I am looking to buy X6. If it doesn't have voip, I might have to go for Nokia E71 which can support voip. Can anyone confirm whether X6 has voip?
    Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I heard with fring there is a long lag as the traffic is diverted through their server before your voip provider. It doesn't directly connect to your voip provider and it might not use the desired voice codec. There is sip voip setting available for download for S60 v 5.x which is what Nokia X6 using.

    Hello,
you can check here ([1]) which release is available for your device. For the Lumia 630 in India that is the Cyan release.
[2] reads "For all other Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones, the update will start rolling out during Q4 2014, following partner testing and approvals", so I think
it is only a matter of time when the update is deployed to the Lumia 630 in India.

  • How to integrate wtk 2.5.2 with Nokia S60 SDK?

Guess what, all these apps are created for iPhone, a device which does not support flash. So it should be obvious to anyone that supporting flash is not a prerequisite to developing these apps. There are apps in Microsoft store which allow you to view iPlayer, TV catchup and most online TV channels just fine on a Windows Phone 7.5 device.
While the app in question (Plex) would require a home-run server it does prove the point that it would be trivial to support Windows Phone for any of these channels.
Again, it's the BBC and others who simply choose not to support Windows Phone and not any technical reason which would make it impossible.
I know there are apps for ios, which makes sense seeing how it is popular, but leaving it out of wp8 makes no sense with less than 2% of all sales, of course no one is going to make the effort to make an app for it.
I say again, there is no technical reason to leave out the latest version of flash, seeing how it works on my n8. I shouldn't have to download apps to do the most basic of things. I am one of a big number of people who do not want / like to download apps, so why shouldn't we have access to content, that works on older devices.
