Incomplete importing of video asset

hi
i'm trying to create a dvd project of a 23' film and only a fraction of the video asset gets imported. the sound is all in, but of the 23 mins of video, it only imports 2'. why?
thank you, veronica

hi thanks,
i'm now trying all sorts. with a quicktime file created directly from quicktime exports on fcp or an mpeg 2 exported with quicktime conversion the same thing happened. i import the QT/Mpeg file onto the DSP project and the sound comes through, but the video file imports only 2 minutes. cant figure it out.
when i open the QT file it IS all there!

  • Different ways to import 24fps video into DVD SP?

    Hello.
I am making a NTSC HD DVD with 1280x720 24fps video clip, and there are few things that's not clear to me...
In the mannual, it says that 'if you import 24fps MPEG-2 assets, they are handled correctly and remain 24fps when you build the project.' 'If you import 24fps QuickTime assets, they are encoded as either 29.97fps or 25fps MPEG-2 files, based on your project's video standard, and no longer 24fps when you build the project.'
If I want to keep 24fps, should I definitely encode to MPEG-2 with Compressor? Or those are just the 2 different ways to result in the same end since 24fps will be played with 3:2 pull down in DVD player? Will there be any quality difference between the two method?
Also, I did a test HD authoring, and I made an 720p mpeg2 with 23.97fps. Yet, when I import it to the project, Frame Rate in Video Asset says 59.94... I am sure that I select 23.97 for encode setting in Compressor. Does anybody have any clue for this?
    Many thanks in advance.

Cinematize works great. You can select portions or the entire DVD. It will not read encrypted DVD's so assuming you are using media that you have rights to it will do fine.
You can import in several compressions. If you like you can import only the audio, only the video, etc. It will give you a QT file at the end.

  • Is there a way to import ONLY videos into PE8, not photos?

I have a million photos I never intend to use in a Premiere Elements 8 production. Using the PE8 "Organizer," is there a way to import ONLY videos into PE8, not photos?

I do not use Organizer, so may be missing something, but I would guess that one could Sort By, and choose File Type. Remember, Organizer is for the system, and does not reflect what is Imported for use in a Project - two different things. In lieu of Organizer, I use Adobe Bridge, installed with some of my other Adobe programs.
I would also assume that Organizer does things via folders. If one does not have any aspect set to auto, I would think that it would ONLY do thumbnails for certain folders, as directed. If one has their stills in other folders, then only AV Assets would be seen by Organizer.
Maybe some Organizer guru will have better directions for you. I am just thinking here and speculating.

  • Cannot import any video files.

I installed CS3 Master Collection, I tried importing a video file into Encore and Premiere Pro and it worked fine. That was 2 days ago, now when I try to import the same video file into either program the 'Import as asset' window pops up as normal but just sits there and does nothing. Then the program comes up with (not responding) and I have to shut it down. I have not changed or installed anything new on my machine.
    Machine Spec:
    Vista Ultimate 64 (fully updated).
    Intel core2 duo E6750 2.66GHz.
    4 gig OCZ DDR2 PC8400.
    Gigabyte P35C-DS3R.
    Nvidia BFG 8800GTS.
Creative X-Fi Extreme Music sound card.
I have since uninstalled CS3 and reinstalled it and I am still experiencing the same problem. I can import any other type of file (images, audio etc) I am only having this problem with video files.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    -Dio

Keep in mind that Vista is good enough to boot your computer, loads a bealtyful GUI, wallpaper loads and mounts the desktop icons. After that the computer works fine. The clock is ticking on the side bar, pictures changes on the middle of this bar, some another gadgets loads and so on . After short period of time, the screen saver starts. Wow vista works great! This is all that vista is capable of. Our problems with vista begins when we click in something. Believe me, i have 26 years of experience with computers. Downgrade to XP64. Your CS3 will work without problems. I have a computer with quad core, 16Gbytes of 667RAM, quadro board, and even in this monster Vista do not works with a long sort of problems. After the downgrade, my problems dissapear. CS3 works very well.

  • Aspect ratio for video assets

do all video assets need to maintain an aspect ratio of 3:2? for example, i have a QT movie (to be used as a menu header) that i animated in after effects that is 300x40. when i import this into DSP, the inspector says that it is 720x480 and the result is a distorted video. I have manipulated my AE file to maintain a 3:2 ratio (360x240) and that looks fine in DSP. However, the inspector still says that the video asset is 720x480. and, when i place it in a menu, i am prohibited from placing it exactly where i would like for it to be (due to the size of the drop zone). any thoughts or ideas?
    thanks in advance
    J
    Dual 2GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

yes, 4:3. sorry, i'm used to AE referring to a 720x480 as 3:2. it considers a 720x540 (sq pixels) as 4:3. old habit i guess.
when i change the drop zone's size by dragging the handles, it works fine unless i try to alter the width of the drop zone. for some reason, when i do that, it scales down the video asset.
i've also noticed that if i set up a livetype file in a nonstandard 4:3 size (like 300x40), DSP does the same thing to it as it did to the QT that was rendered in AE. it distorts it by stretching it vertically, causing it to look horrible in a drop zone that is the same size as the livetype file. i'm just trying to find easy and efficient ways to animate button text and menu headers without having to compose the enitre menu in AE. but i believe that you are right, i may be better off just doing it that way.
    thanks for the advice,

  • Mass Video Asset Management in Lightroom 4 - Watch as I Test (Flail and Fumble)

The Project is to: catalog, keyword, manage, rate, and organize over 3400 video clips (AVCHD clips re-wrapped as MOV files) shot in 30 days in Costa Rica. The shoot was purely run and gun -total guerrilla style. As we were unable to do much transfer and review in the field, I came home with a huge project to complete before editing videos. I've limited the choices of software for asset management & organization down to Lightroom 4 or CatDV. Ethically, I feel obligated to say that I"m pulling for Adobe since I use the entire suite, and there are some nice fringe benefits keeping everything "in house,"
First Step: All video files are AVCHD files which are re-wrapped (by ClipWrap) into MOV files. This step is crucial, since AVCHD does not include/store metadata in the video file itself.
Second Step: Files are stored on the MAC-OS level into folders corresponding to the dates the shots were taken
Third Step: Get the 3400+ files organized, weeded, and prepped for editing
@#$!)~*(*&%^ <-- That's what a record scratch looks like in the digital age
I started examining software solutions and gave each a couple of good tries to narrow the choices down to TWO packages of software:
OnLocation - Couldn't feel it and it looks like it's meant to work for a different flow. No.
Cosmos - Couldn't really do much of anything with metadata. No.
Bridge - Almost there, but pretty limited and not dual screen friendly at all. No.
CatDV - Now there you go...almost. Everything is in a catalog meaning you have to go between this software and Premiere. Definite maybe.
Lightroom 4 - Comes with heaps of background in organizing stills, how will it work for massive amounts of video? Definite maybe.
CatDV and Lightroom 4 both imported everything just fine.
I'll post more as I get into it. Soon, if anyone cares to read more.

Lightroom 4 has completed the task of importing 3440 video clips. CatDV (fully functional 30 day trial) crashed again on the large import. I'm going to try importing 10 folders at a time in CatDV.
As I start to play in Lightroom4 with asset mgmt:
    PROs
    Slick relatively tweakable user interface
Keyword buttons are great (wish we could have more on the surface)
Nice "twirl-down" flow that Adobe uses in the product line -I love this
    CONs
Lightroom4 video previews are horrifically sluggish at best, and at this point is unusable for a large collection
The scrub over (video thumbnail) preview is a huge resource hog and would benefit from a disable option
Second Monitor pane has some issues/incongruencies with the main monitor pane:
Grid view will not allow multiple files to be graded/keyworded/etc simultaneously
Loupe view will not play video files and treats the video file preview like a photo
This is all for now. More on CatDV when I get it going.

The Premiere Elements learning curve is a serious matter. Nothing to be taken lightly or taken for granted. Every question is important, small or large. Never hesitate to ask a question. Every answer is always obvious once you have been there and done that. I often reflect on "the measure of a smart person is not what he/she knows but rather what he/she knows that they do not know". All that said, let us move forward zealously to get you moving forward with your project with some fine tuned communication.
I have gone back and reread your whole thread. I think the light bulb may have lit here and that I bypassed the following.
When  I  open  the  Organize  and  view  videos  section  that  is  supposed  to  show  ALL  my  imports.
All  that  are  fully  showing  are  the  pictures...  ALL  The  Videos  are  located  in  a  "BLANK"  box  on  that  same  screen.
Again,   If  I  select  the  "make  movies"  option   the  videos  are  able  to  be  dragged  down  to  the  timeline,  where  they  fully  appear. However,  I  cannot  view  them  in  the  selection  area
On my re-read of your thread, it appears that your blank box is not in Project Assets in the Expert workspace of Premiere Elements 12 Editor. It is in the Elements Organizer 12 which is part of Premiere Elements 12. Is that correct? If it is,
    a. if you double click the blank thumbnail in that Elements Organizer 12, can you play back the video file there?
And, what you are saying is that when you open this Elements Organizer 12 blank box in Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, you see the video and hear the audio just fine. Is that what is going on?
Video thumbnail problem in the Elements Organizer is a frequent report. That is why details, such as the file extension of the file involved, are so important along with the other properties of the file.
One way around this is to use Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace Add Files and Folders (from computer hard drive) to get your file into Project Assets from where you drag it to the Timeline. Does that work for you?
Before I go on and on, let us see if we are in sync on this.
Your help on this is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Imported sd video poor quality in Encore cs5

    Hi,
I have Encore cs5. Once I have imported the video files into the project panel, it won't seem to allow me to drag them into the 'create new item' box (next to the delete) bin. When I drag them from the project panel straight unto the timeline the quality of the video is severly effected. Is there something I need to do to the video in the project panel first before dragging into the timeline? And if someone can tell me why I can't get them inot the 'create new item' box that would be helpful too
    Thanks
    Simon

    Stanley,
Just speculation here, but there is not the same need for the New Icon to create a Timeline to match the source footage, as one will have fed Encore the proper Assets to begin with - it is not an NLE, like PrPro, so is greatly limited as to what one can Import.
Like you, I always use File>Import>As a Timeline (for my Video), and Import>As an Asset for the Audio, with Import>As a Menu for my PSD's. I find no reason to deviate from that workflow.
Now, if one was ganging Videos onto a common Timeline, they would do it slightly differently, but I do not do that.

  • Contentbase Issues - Why does it create 2 proxies for every video assett?

I am trying to deploy a SAN and a Media Asset Management System. After testing Final Cut Server, I've noticed that within the Proxies.bundle you get:
    1) Duplicate Thumbnails
    2) Duplicate Poster Frames
    3) Duplicate Low Resolution Video Proxies
Why dublicate everything? I want to SAVE SPACE and if I have to create proxies (since you can't really turn this off yet), why take up twice the space?
Also, Why can't I control or alter the thumbnail or poster frame image generated? I might not want to pick the first frame of video. I might want to change it.
I see no place in the Admin panel to address these issues...At All!
    Anyone know what's up?

Thanks so far Nicholas and Chris,
Here's the thing: I've read both the admin guide and the peachpit book on FCS now. I don't understand a few things:
    1) If I import a FCP project as an asset, it will copy all media associated with the project to either the Media or Library folder. Wow Great. But when it make the proxies (Thumbnail, Poster frame, Low Res Copy--Not Editing Proxy; this isn't enabled in my setup now), it creates a series of folders like:
    00000000001a
    00000000001b
    00000000001c
    00000000001d
And in each you get the XML, the thumbnail, the poster frame, and the low res proxy.
However, then it duplicates three files: the thumbnail, poster frame and low res proxy into three more folders:
    00000000001e
    00000000001f
    00000000001g
These are literally the exact duplicate of the first three proxies. (The XML is not duplicated.) If I delete these duplicates manually, the system still works, provides previews, a thumbnail, etc. inside the user UI; no problems.
Additionally, if I import media/an asset directly--not attached to a project--it only creates one set of proxies and no duplicates.
This leads me to believe that it is making proxies for both the media asset and the project file, instead of one set of proxies for both.
Either way, I need a "better way" to integrate our workflow with FCS at our web video company. We have some 5200 raw media files I need to catalogue and import. Most of these files have been edited and exported into final conformed shows--those are about 3700 final QuickTimes.
We also have tons of other still photos, and gfx, that I would like to catalogue. Before I start moving stuff into FCS, I want to be sure that I am not wasting proxy space.
If either of you has more time, I would be grateful to follow up with more technical questions and workflow solutions.
    Thanks,
    Shawn Larkin

  • Unable to import any video

I have iPhoto 9.5.1 running on Mavericks. The issue first appeared when iPhoto refused to import the only two movie files on my iPhone 5S running iOS 8, stating the two .mov files were in an unrecognizable format. I used the Image Capture tool to pull the two videos off the phone. They play normally in QuickTime, however iPhoto still refuses to import them.
I tried repairing and then rebuilding the iPhoto database to no effect. I create a brand new iPhoto library, it provided the same error message. I tried logging onto one of the other users on the iMac, same issue.
I then exported a video from iPhoto and tried to re-import it, I get the same unrecognizable format error - even though the video originally came from iPhoto and played fine.
I deleted the iPhoto preference file and the cache file from ~/Library
I've run out of ideas. Help!

  • I have been trying to import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge.  Did not have trouble until I upgraded to mavericks.  I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, iMovie 10.0.2.  Says it is recording, but when I go to check, it says the file is empty.

I have been trying import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge.  I have been successful doing this in the past, but now it is not working.  I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, (mavericks), iMovie 10.0.2.  Everything in iMovie looks like it is working.  It reads "recording" in the upper left hand corner of the pane while the video is playing.  When I stop the process to check on my clip it says that the file is empty.  The only thing that has changed since I did it successfully is that I upgraded to mavericks from whatever I had previously.  My system is about one year old.  Any suggestions?

    Hey, Clinton,
Thanks for your help!  I was able to go to iMovie 9.0.9 and import video.  I was still curious as to why it didn't work in version 10.0.2, so I contacted Apple tech support.  They were't sure at first as to why it wouldn't work, so they had me delete iMovie 10.0.2 and then re-install it just to see if something had gone wrong when it upgraded.  That didn't change anything.  In the end, they determined that 10.0.2 doesn't support the Hollywood Dazzle DV bridge.  But I have a workaround path from them that I will share so that it's possible to import to 9.0.9, then move it to 10.0.2.
         1.  Open iMovie 9 (finder/applications/iMovie 9.0.9
         2.  Import from Dazzle Bridge to iMovie 9, note which event you are importing the clips into
         3.  Close iMovie 9
         4.  Open iMovie 10 (probably in the dock)
         5.  File/Import Media...navigate to home(this was my name, on the left side of iMovie, under Favorites)/Movies/iMovie events.  Find the event folder that contains your Dazzle clips (tip-try sorting by date modified to look at recent events.)
         6.  Select the clips and import.  Click the blue "Import Selected" button on the bottom right.
You may get a message that some files cannot be imported.  Click continue import.  It's a little glitchy.  It imports your clip, and also makes a copy of it, too.  On the copy, the audio is normal, but the video is choppy.  In any case, you would delete the copy, anyway.
Hope this additional information helps somebody else.  Thanks again, Clinton for helping me!

I have an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes.
All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem. The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it  just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.
    Can anyone please help me.

    The mystery remains....
Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.
    Thanks

  • ITunes 11 won't import .mov video files from external hard drive but will from internal.

    Hi Everyone
I'm having a problem with iTunes 11.0.1. I can't import .mov video files stored on an external hard drive. I can however import .m4v files from the same external drive. Using either the add to library option or dragging files from the finder.
I can add .mov files from the internal though. Strange I know.
The reason behind this posting is that I'm using iFlicks to convert my TV and movies from my external drive for Apple TV and add all relevent meta data, keeping the files on the external drive and having iTunes link to them.
I would like to be able to simply create a general iTune compatiable file using iFlicks which only takes a minute or two per file to convert. I'm currently converting them to .m4v just for the sack of being able to import them into iTunes from an external drive takes 45 minutes per file.
Has anybody else had this problem? Any ideas on a fix to allow me to import .mov files from an external drive into iTunes without copying it to the iTune library file.
    Many Thanks
    Dave

This might be worth a shot - basically seeing if Vista permissions could be the culprit.
Give yourself FULL control and ownership of the exHD, let's call it M:

  • Can you import movie videos from SD camera card

Can you import movie videos (MP4) into an Ipad from an SD camera card on a Lightning cable ... or can you only do this from a laptop via Itunes? In other words, is Itunes the only way to get non-Itune videos to the Ipad? Hope I havent made this sound confusing.

To import the videos must follow a very strict naming convention.
All file names must have 8 characters for a name and be located in a folder named DCIM
    for example
    DCIM
    MOV_5789.mp4
You can't watch the videos off the cart, they must be imported into the iPad. They'll go into the camera roll, when you tap on them it'll open the video app and you can watch from there.
