Incomplete list of songs by artist

My list of Songs by Artist seems to be incomplete on the iPod. On iTunes, I've verified I've got 4 songs for a single artist. They all sort together in the artist list.
However if I navigate to songs by artist in the iPod, only one of these songs shows up. I can find the others only by song title.
I've tried mass-changing the artist on all 4 songs at once and re-synching to make sure the artist name was the same, but I can't seem to fix the problem.
Any advice? It's annoying to have to scroll through all the artists only to find out I have to scroll through songs as well because the iPod is being screwy.

  • Why does apple tv music search no longer provides lists of songs or artists based on inputing a few letters?

When using my first generation apple tv and the music search capability, I no longer get a list of options generation when inputing a few letters of a song or artist.  In the past (up until a month or two ago) if I input "led" in the search, I would immediately get many options of songs, artists, etc. showing up in the search screen.  Now, if I put in "led" I must go to the next "page" and it will provide a much more limited selection.  If I don't know the exact name of an artist or song, searching becomes less of an actual search and more of, you better know exactly what you are looking for or you won't find it.  I was told by a service rep that there must have been a software upgrade that changed this function.  Does anybody have any info to confirm that, or is there some other problem?  I've updated all the software, rebooted the system, etc.  If it's a change to the function, it has renedered it almost useless, and that's a shame

I have exactly the same problem. I already did a factory restore! How can this be fixed?

  • I've found no way to sort.  For example, if I type the group "Rush" into the search bar, I get a list of songs recorded by rush and literally thousands of other songs and artists with the word rush in them. There is; however, no way to sort the results.

In the Search box click on the black Arrow and UNTICK the Search Entire Library.
Then the Search results in Songs view will be displayed in the main Grid and you can sort them by clicking on the column headers.
You can also turn on the column browser which can help with filtering

  • Album does not come up when I click on Artist, just list of songs

I just installed the new update on my nano. When I am browsing the music on my nano and I select an artist name, ti doesn't go to a screen listing the album name, but straight to a list of songs. if the artist has more than one album, however, it does list the album names, and then clicking on the album takes me to a list of the songs contained therein.
Is this new? is there a way to change it so it lists the album name even if there is only one album by the artist?

ti doesn't go to a screen listing the
album name, but straight to a list of songs.
    What?
For example, I only have one album (Ships) by Danielson in my ipod and it does this:
Music>Artists>Danielson>"List of Songs contained in the album Ships"
I have more than one album (Blueberry Boat and Gallowsbird's Bark) by the Fiery Furnaces in my ipod and it does this:
Music>Artists>The Fiery Furnaces>"List of albums">"List of songs contained in whichever album I select"

It would depend on your definition of "Fix"
Your iPod touch running OS 4.2 has a ZOOM feature which will enable you to see the screen more clearly.
To turn Zoom on or off got to:
Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom and tap the Zoom On/Off switch.
    _To Zoom in or out_:
Double-tap the screen with three fingers. By default, the screen is magnified 200 percent. If you manually change the magnification (by using the tap-and-drag gesture, described below), iPod touch automatically returns to that magnification when you zoom in by double-tapping with three fingers.
Increase magnification: With three fingers, tap and drag toward the top of the screen (to increase magnification) or toward the bottom of the screen (to decrease magnification). The tap-and-drag gesture is similar to a double-tap, except you don’t lift your fingers on the second tap—instead, drag your fingers on the screen. Once you start dragging, you can drag with a single finger.
    _Move around the screen_:
When zoomed in, drag or flick the screen with three fingers. Once you start dragging, you can drag with a single finger so that you can see more of the screen. Hold a single finger near the edge of the display to pan to that side of the screen image. Move your finger closer to the edge to pan more quickly. When you open a new screen, Zoom always goes to the top-middle of the screen.
    _Large Text_:
Large Text lets you make the text larger in alerts, and in Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Messages, and Notes. You can choose 20-point, 24-point, 32-point, 40-point, 48-point, or 56-point text.
Set the text size: In Settings, choose General > Accessibility, tap Large Text, then tap the text size you want.
I hope this has helped a little - other than this option I think it pretty much is what it is.
BTW - This information can be found on page 208 of the iPod Touch iOS 4.2 Users Guide.
    Best wishes..

  • Disapearing songs off artist list only in songs list

y is it that songs that have been in my artist list keep disapearing and i have to go through the songs list to find them can someone please help me!!!!!!!!

All songs need Artist, Album and Title.

  • How can I list the songs in an album in iTunes without having to do it one by one? Some albums are not numbered.

How can I list the songs in an album in iTunes without having to do it one by one? Some albums are not numbered or they show 1. 1. 1. 1. 1. 1. 1.

Poor metadata needs to be corrected if the album is to display properly in iTunes. iTunes sees an "album" as any collection of tracks with the same Album title and the same Album Artist (or Artist if Album Artist isn't set). Each track of the album should have distinct Track V of W and Disc X of Y vaules. W,X,Y are optional, but X may be needed for multi disc albums.

  • How do I find a list of songs that Siri has recognised for me in iOS 8?

Hi all, I love Siri's ability to recognise songs built-in to iOS 8 so much that I deleted the Shazam app to save screen space.  But recently I've realised my mistake - there doesn't seem to be a way of finding a list of all the songs Siri has recognised for me over the past week, so that I can review them and start purchasing.  Is there a way to access recently recognised music anywhere on iPhone or iTunes?  It seems with Siri my choices are either 1) purchase immediately, 2) memorise the song and artist (usually whilst driving) or 3) forget about it.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks.

I've actually managed to find the answer to my own question.  The Siri results are stored on the iPhone.  Go to iTunes Store, then click in the top right corner the icon that looks like 3 lines of dot points.  This shows your wishlist and other options, one of which is "Siri".  Under that heading you will find your recently Siri-Shazamed songs.

  • When I view the music on my iPhone in iTunes, how do I view this by album, rather than in a long list of songs?

When I view the music on my iPhone in iTunes, how do I view this by album, rather than in a long list of songs?  When I view the music stored on my iMac, I get a choice to view by Songs, Artists, Albums, Composers, etc.  But I don't get any choice with the music on my iPhone.
Its really hard to manage the music on my iPhone.  I want to quickly remove albums and add new ones.
Is there a solution that I haven't seen?

Create a playlist, add/delete albums and sync this playlist.
You don't need to manually manage the iPhone music to do this.

  • HT1660 My itunes library has automatically started to list my songs alphabetically.  I do not want this.  How do I change it so that when albums come up, the songs are listed in the order of the imported album, NOT alphabetically.

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • Feature Request:  iTunes to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields

This is a feature request that i would like to see in a future release of iTunes. The option to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields together. This would be a very valuable option when surfing your iTunes Library thru your iPod, Front Row, or Apple TV.
    Let me explain:
Not everyone knows at the top of their head who sings a particular song. This is especially true when someone other than the owner of the iTunes Library is browsing through it.
Let's say that I want to browse my ENTIRE music collection all at once. The easiest way to do this, is by browsing thru the "Songs" list because it creates 1 massive list displaying ALL the songs in the library, without having to jump into different fields. The current problem with this, is, it only lists the name of the song. There are 2 problems with this philosophy. #1 - You must know who sings the songs to have any chance of making this a useful option because the artist is not displayed. #2 - It puts them in alphabetical based on the song name. Once again, not a very useful way to make this option really functional because you will have the Artists all over the map! Keeping the Artist's songs together makes it a much more feasable option.
The solution, I feel, would be to have iTunes create an "Option" that would allow users like me to make iTunes merge the "Artist" & "Name" fields together. Make it an option so that users who do not see the benefit to this, would not have to use it. By doing this, I could now surf my ENTIRE collection via the "Songs" field in a very logical approach.
For an example, let's take a song: Artist - "Def Leppard" & Song Name - "Pour Some Sugar On Me". By clicking this option, when browsing thru the "Songs" field, it would now display as: Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me. This allows me to browse my ENTIRE library while at the same time, keeping "like" songs together, and making it very easy to distinguish whether or not it is a song I want to select. By knowing that Def Leppard is a Rock Artist, it helps to distinguish the song.
I work for a custom AV integration shop that has put hundreds of music servers into homes. We have been teaching our clients the benefits of this for some time now, with great feedback. The only problem presently, is it requires the users to have to re-edit every single file by putting the Artist's Name & the Song Title into the "Name" field of iTunes. Very time consuming! As well, because you also have the "Artists" name entered in the "Artist" field, you get Front Row displaying the "Artist" name twice, once in the song name, and once in the artist's field.
    Any feedback would be welcomed.
    Regards,
    Trevor

You might be able to get where you want using Chaotic Software's MediaRage. It can automate and batch tag editing, including building a Title tag that combines Artist and Title and, to possibly address you other problem, blanking the Artist tag.
MediaRage is not expensive and it is very powerful, you can even define regexs for how to parse tags.

  • When locating a song via "Artists," the menu goes straight to albums

I think this has to do with my recent iPod update, as it didn't used to happen- when I scroll through the artist names all are present- but when you select an artist, for many of them (not all, not sure why not) it goes straight to the album of that artist of which you have the most songs. For example I have CCR's Chronicle, Volume 1, and when I go to CCR via Artists it goes straight to the songs in this album: I have no opportunity to hit "All" and view all of the music I have from them. The other songs are available, however by searching through the "Songs" list. That's just incredibly tedious and annoying. Does anyone else know how to fix this or is anyone having similar difficulty? Thanks.

Two things often contribute to this.
One is that some songs might be tagged as Part Of A Compilation (see the Get Info on those songs/albums) in which case they will not show up under the artist.
Second, is that an artist needs at least two different Albums identified for their songs to all list under the artist. In other words, if you import a CD with album name then add a handful of misc songs without album names associated, those handful will not show up under the artist name.
But add an album name to at least one of those handful of misc. songs and then ALL of the songs should show up under the artist.
You don't have to do it for all of them, just enough to have two different albums identified with the artist. But in general, it is a good idea to make sure your tunes have Song name, artist name, and album name associated with them as a minimum.

  • Songs by artist out of order

Ok, so I've been using a program for months to manage my ID3 tags on my music.
I like my ipod a lot, I use it everywhere I go, but recently after downloading 6 albums of a certain artist, I used the ID3 tag manager (like always.. never had a problem) to remove ALL album names, track numbers, EVERYTHING except the artist name (all the same) and genre (all the same for each artist).
I keep no album names or identification, I don't like going by albums, I just keep it simple and go by song titles. However, this time the songs are being somewhat ordered around into a specific order unknown to me, there will be some songs in alphabetical order here, then some random songs starting over the alphabet (same artist, mind you) and it will continue over and over starting with new albums I'm guessing.
I do not want this, and I do not know how to make it force alphabetizing it into the normal fashion by song title. This happens for no other artist (actually, it happens on a couple others, as this has been an issue for some time on particular artists). I need to know what I need to do to get this fixed.
also, if there is any way to remove the process of selecting Artist > Artist Name > ALL > Song name, I do not want to select my album as ALL every time I select an artist, because I don't even use that feature by ID3 tag, I completely remove it for every single piece of media I have on my ipod. My friend's ipod does not make you select ALL as the album if she doesn't have any albums listed, and I would like to see if this will work for my new 5th gen ipod as well.
    Thanks for help!

Ok, I will restate what I've said throughout the entire thread:
I use an ID3 tag manager to mass-manage lots of music that I bring in via CDs and other locations. I handle a lot of music, and I only keep track of artists and song names, no albums or anything else except the genre to keep it sortof noted.
My ID3 tags for each and every song on my computer consists of ONLY the Artist name and genre, not a single thing else. No album name, no titles, nothing.
I have songs from multiple albums per artist, but they are mixed because they are UNTAGGED as being on a certain album. I personally have no idea what album each song may be on, and don't care to know.
My music on my ipod is organizing itself by an album title (ex: Album A songs will display before Album B songs) although there is NO INDICATION whatsoever that any song is on a particular album and is not told to be sorted in that manner.
The reason I didn't supply a screenshot is because it looks appropriately alphabetized in my itunes management, but this does not translate when uploading it to my ipod. Certain artists will have songs from X album appear above other songs for no reason, there is no reason it should put a song titled (for example): "Zanzibar" over a song titled "Float", but because the song titled "Zanzibar" is on an album starting with the letter A and "Float" on an album starting with the letter F, it will display ABOVE "Float" even though it is not being told to order itself by album title, and has no reason behind being placed there, as there is no information in the Album field on any of the songs that I own.
Do you see the predicament? I am aware it doesn't sound right, and that's why I've come here to get a resolution for it, it simply does not make since. I use an ID3 tag manager because when you load a CD onto your computer, it will keep Track numbers, Album names, etc. I remove this information and insert blank fields so that the music is SOLELY ORDERED by the FILENAME of the song (which happens to be the song title only, the ID3 "title" field is left blank as well).
If this helps clarify it for you, please forgive any discrepancies in my previous posts. I've tried to convey the same message in each post, but somehow you must've been lost.
So now that it's all stated clearly; My problem is this: I want my songs by ARTIST X to be alphabetized SOLELY on the FILENAME, which I have supplied the song title in that position. I have NO information in ID3 tags other than the ARTIST and GENRE. Nothing else, no title, album, anything.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Song and Artist display differently in landscape mode (iPod on iPhone)

I have a CD Compilation *50 Best Songs Ever*. When I play any song from this Compilation on my iPhone, if I turn the phone to landscape mode the Artist defaults back to the Artist on the 1st track, but if I turn the phone back to upright mode the Artist shows correctly.
This is a CD Compilation of various artists, and the only one it seems to happen to.
    Any thoughts?

No, the OP is correct, there is some sort of funky bug here. I have noticed it too. To the extent that it is almost comical. In portrait view the song/artist/album artist/album art are all correct; then switch to landscape view and you get a comical mix of songs from different artists, wrong album art (from first one in list) and the name of the song and artist are wrong, and inconsistent with what is playing. Rotate back to portrait view and all is good again.
It is at best a minor inconvenience, and I love my shuffle anyhow, so the randomness of it is sort of fun/funny.
But it is definitely a bug.
