Incomplete migration of BLOBs

We are using Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB) to migrate tablespace data and
user from SQL Server 6.5 to an existing Oracle 8i database. The table we are
migrating contains several BLOB columns and other CHAR and NUM columns. The table has around 9000 rows. These BLOBs are up to several hundred kilobytes of mostly TIFF files of scanned text data. After the migration we found that the
table created in Oracle has all 9000 rows filled for the non BLOB column data but the
BLOB columns are filled up to the first 921 rows only. A dbms_lob.getlength of
the remaining rows shows that they contain 1 byte. We did not modify the
migration scripts and used the OMWB wizard to do the entire migration. We
received no errors after the migration. My only idea at this time is that it could be a DB sizing issue but then we manually populated several rows of the table and were successful. If anyone has any experience with this problem I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

Hi Donlyon,
Adobe does not recommend using migration software to transfer the program from one mac to other.
You can remove the currently installed software and download Elelmets 10 from the direct download links available at : http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-10-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l
But make sure you follow the important steps mentioned on the page before initiating the download.

  • Migrating LONG RAW to BLOB and optimizing extent size

    Hi all,
I got a quite fragmented table with a LONG RAW column I want to migrate to BLOB and defragment.
DB version is Oracle9i Release 9.2.0.4.0 and this is a production environment.
I know MOVE and/or CTAS are not possible with LONG RAW columns
So, how can I do that? Is ALTER TABLE MODIFY the only possibility to migrate from LOING RAW to BLOB?
Since ALTER TABLE MODIFY will lock the whole table preventing any DML operation, I need at least a rough estimate of the time needed for this operation. How can I do that?
Since this table is quite fragmented, I also want to rebuilt it using a different extent size.
I think I should issue a ALTER TABLE MOVE... after having performed the "ALTER TABLE MODIFY".
Can I do something better to minimize unavailability to DML operations?
    thanks,
    andrea

    Hi,
    Is this an OCCI question?
I don't see that "to_blob" is documented anywhere. The "to_lob" function can be used to convert long raw columns, but its use is pretty specific and certainly not for general query use.
    Regards,
    Mark
EDIT1: Well, my local documentation set does not have "to_blob" in it at all. However, it is in the 11.1 SQL Language Reference on OTN:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/functions186.htm#sthref2358
Despite the fact that the documentation mentions "long raw" the function appears to only work with "raw" data in my 11.1 tests.
    What's your goal here?

  • Time Machine migration problems

    Hello!
I've just bought a new 15" MacBook Pro, to replace my 13" MacBook Pro as I needed a bigger screen.
However, I'm having a lot of difficulty transferring my files across from a Time Machine backup I have of my old computer (and now it's the only copy of my data that I have).
About halfway through the transfer (during the initial computer setup, on the migration page), it seems to freeze up, then when you put your fingers on the trackpad it restarts into the 'Welcome' video again. So it takes me throughall of the steps, and I try to create a username - which I shouldn't have to do - but it won't let me create my usual name because it already exists. I create a different account and login and it looks like a fresh Mac installation - but half of the 500GB drive is used up and in 'Users', my original username exists with about half of its files and an 'incomplete migration' file.
So I reinstalled Snow Leopard and tried again, and I had the exact same result. Now I've created another duplicate account, deleted the half-migrated user account, and I'm using the migration wizard from within OS X.
Failing that, any other ideas as to what it could be?
The drive my backup is on is an external 500GB drive, but I have no others big enough that I could copy the files to to try. It is possible the drive is falling asleep halfway through? I've done exactly the same procedure before though with another MacBook, and it all went through smoothly...

It sounds like there's something corrupted on your backups.
From the Install disk, after selecting your language, select Utilities from the menubar, then +Disk Utility.+ Use it to do a +*Repair Disk+* (not permissions) on your TM drive. That may fix whatever's causing the Migration to hang.
Then us it to Erase your internal HD and try again.
If the migration fails again, about your only option will be to move the rest of your data from the backups manually -- use the normal "Star Wars" display to restore what Migration Assistant didn't. It sounds like you got at least part of your home folder, so try to restore one sub-folder at a time. One of them may well fail (when it hits whatever's corrupted), so try smaller and smaller pieces of it until you get all you can.

  • Migrating from Informix9.4 to Oracle9i

    Hi,
I am in the process of migrating informix9.4 to oracle 9i database.
Can you pl let me know how bytes in informix are migrated to oracle. are they any problems faced during migration of LOB data.Does the OMWB 10.1.0.2.0 release handles the data transfer for LOB properly.
    Thanks

    Hi
As per the default settings 'byte' is migrated as 'blob'. You can change it.(raw, long raw).

  • Migration Assistant in Lion leaving bits off?

I ran the MA and had all the boxes checked to bring everything over from a 2009 Mini/Snow to a 2011 Mini/Lion.  It ran over WiFi (should have used FW800) and seemed to have worked (after 20 hours or so) except it only appears to have ported programs over - no Documents, Pictures, Movies, Downloads etc. - none of the data in the Home/Users folders.
Granted, this type of data is easily drag/dropped over the network, transferred on disk, or sync'ed etc.  Only one single program came back as incompatible!  (Default Folder X)
Also missing/trashed - all settings.  Mail, Address Book, Monitor calibration being big items among those, but also things like Yahoo Messenger, Little Snitch, RapidoStart, Trackpad, I don't even know all of them yet - but it seems pretty much vacant.
It's been a while but I don't recall such an incomplete migration from any Mac->Mac transfer I've ever done before.  Is this due to Lion?

Apparently after looking into this, I've sort of answered my own question (again).
Chances are, I need to wipe the drive and start over with Setup Assistant via Firewire in Target Disk mode to properly port things in place (as a replacement Mac).
One good summary of this is http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/SetupLion.html
This is a bit of a PITA but will give me a chance to play with the new boot partition which I was asking about in another thread (not being able to see it in Disk Utility).
One thing I don't understand - the boot partition is a bare bones startup system - then afterwards one has to (automatically?) download all the stock Apple LionOS programs that normally come bundled with the Mac anyway.  This is really dumb IMHO.  Why not put them all in the OSboot partition to start with and let Software Update add new versions as needed?  What am I missing here?
On that same note - I would like to be able to own/buy/burn my own Lion+Bundled Programs DVD(s) as a backup in case the HDD dies completely.  AFAIK Apple doesn't even sell the DVD set to do this?  Odd.

  • Migrating to Designer 6i from earlier version

    Hi,
I'm attempting to migrate our old repository to that of Des6i. I have gone through the steps to set up a new repository, and am now at the crucial point where I run the 6i Repository Admin Utility and hit "Migrate A Repository". I entered the username/password for our old repository, and I get the error:
"A Designer/2000 Repository has been detected. However its version is not compatible with the Migration Process.
Migration is supported for Designer/2000 Repositories at version:
Oracle Designer/2000 Repository (TM): Release 7.0.4.0.0 Production
The Designer/2000 Repository you have nominated is at version:
Oracle Designer/2000 Repository (TM): Release 6.0.9.0.0 Production"
However, as far as I'm aware (based on the Installation Guide that was installed with Des6i), it SHOULD work - in the "Migrate data from an existing repository into a new one" section, it reads:
"To use a repository from a release of Oracle Designer earlier than 6i, you must migrate the data in it from a live Release 2.1.2 or Release 6.0 repository...into a Release 6i repository that you have already created."
Is this not correct? Or am I being tripped up in the wacky world of Oracle version numbering?
    Any advice appreciated.

  • Will Migration Assistant Continue Where It Left Off?

I'm transferring applications from my MacBook to my new MacBook Air via Migration Assistant over my wireless network. It's been transferring for over 24 hours, and says it will finish in 19 hours. I was wondering if aborting it prematurely (using Command-Q) would damage the applications or hardware, and if I continue the migration later, will it pick up where it left off or start again?

It's a really bad idea to use MA over wi-fi, depending on the amount of data you have it could take up to a week to complete! It's much wiser (and faster) to connect using FW or FW800 if both machines have it. Aborting mid migration will only result in an incomplete migration, in that case it's wise to reinstall OS X onto the new machine and start over this time connecting via FW.

  • Time Machine and "might be a problem with your network"

Hi! My Power Mac is from 2008, and I'm in the middle of replacing my hard drive. Here's a summary of what I've gone through, including various trouble shooting...
OK, the hard drive dies (all of which I wrote about in an earlier thread and, I think, not very relevant for this thread). While waiting to buy my replacement, I created an external bootable drive, hooked up via FW800. I created a new User Account, and then I used the Migration Assistant to bring in all the user settings, files, etc, from my Time Machine. It took many hours and and during the stage when it was transferring files, it gave me the prompt: "There might be a problem with your network. The other Mac is not responding. Make sure that all of your network devices are connected and turned on. Also, make sure that your Ethernet cables are still connected properly to your computer and to the network, or if using AirPort, that the base station is in range and turned on." After clicking "Continue" got me nowhere, I clicked Cancel, and it was a very incomplete migration [no apps, no files]. I didn't sweat this since this external drive is a temporary solution anyway.
Tonight I came home with the new internal drive, installed it, installed Leopard, and began the Setup Assistant. I got the same prompt as last night. NOTE: This time with Setup Assistant; last night was with Migration Assistant.
I notice from reviewing the boards that this Time Machine glitch seemed to happen a few years ago, in Leopard, and maybe hasn't happened since. But I haven't read a thread with a solution. (Maybe I missed it?)
A few things come to mind:
    1. Could there be an issue with the fact that the computer is only 10.5 and many of the files/apps may have been installed when I was running 10.5.8? I'm just tossing that out there. For instance, what if I set up an initial User account, then updated the software to 10.5 and THEN used Migration Assistant to bring in the older account?
    2. Soon, since I'm reinstalling Leopard, I'll get the prompt to use Setup Assistant, and this time I'll just select account settings and apps. I'll bring in the files manually, later. Since the progress window seems to get hung up during the file-transferring stage, maybe I'll have better luck if I skip that.
If anyone has any suggestions, man, I'd be way grateful!
    Thanks!

"try trashing the timemachine.plist in your original user's Library>Preferences."
I didn't even get to that step. Here's what happened.
I went back to my original Admin account (the one I restored via Setup Assistant, from my Time Machine backup), and ran Migration Assistant again. I selected Applications only and when it gave me a prompt about the account name already existing. So, I created a new account name (TEMP 1, I called it).
All of my applications were restored.
Next, I tried it with all the files and folders. It didn't give me the duplicate name prompt this time. It copied all my flles and folders over.
Was it perfect? Well, a lot of the apps need some fresh registration and some upgrading, but I suppose that's to be expected. Or is it?
While I feel like this problem is in my rear-view mirror, I'm still interested in your suggestons for a Time Machine altenative.
    Thanks again for your advice!

  • Move data from sql server v8  to oracle 10g

I just got urgent projects to migrate the data from MS SQL server 2000 to oracle 10g. The following are requirements:
Source data/table: MS sql server 2k (version 8) on MS 2000 machine.
    Destination Data/table: oracle 10g (10.1.0.4) on Redhat version 3.
Total number of tables: < 10 tables and < 1000 rows each tables.
This is only one time data extraction. No periodically data extraction need.
    Questions:
What connect method I should use? (odbc or jdbc)
What if I have image datatype?
    Thanks in advance.

    Use the Oracle Migration Workbench.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/index.html
I think IMAGE will be migrated to BLOB by default.

  • SQL Server Image to Oracle

I'm converting SQL Server Tables to Oracle using MWB 9.2. The tables contain images (data type "image"). I get the following error from the MWB generated scripts:
SQL*Loader-309: No SQL string allowed as part of DISPLAY_IMAGE field specification
The column definition in the .ctl file is:
    DISPLAY_IMAGE NEXT ***** CHARACTER
    Maximum field length is 2000000
    Terminator string : '<ec>'
SQL string for column : "HEXTORAW (:DISPLAY_IMAGE)"

    Kelly,
The OMWB only supports inline data transfer of image types to LONG RAW via SQL*Loader.
You should be ablr to use TO_LOB() to convert the LONG to LOB.
The error you have is what you get when you try yo migrate to BLOB. TO use SQL*Loader
with BLOB you would need to have unload each image into a seperate file and the OMWB
doen't help you do this. bcp dumps the image data in hex (hence the HEXTORAW sql function),
I don't know how bcp would dump this as binary.

is it possible to migrate only blob data???in a partial full table (with id and file)?????
    thanks for answer
    @+ rosagio

    Hello,
You can create a trigger and sequence on id column and it will automatically generate an id for you. But you cannot reuse whatever you have in the table for id and file_name. So you need to load file. YOu can either delete (REPLACE/TRUNCATE INTO keywords ) old records or you can APPEND, this goes in your control file
    CREATE SEQUENCE MY_SEQ
      START WITH 401
      MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999
      MINVALUE 0

  • New format issues

    Hi,
I guess these might be issues with incomplete migration to the new format but I'll post them here nevertheless:
Incorrect post count - The "total number of posts" in the user information seems to reflect the total number of posts online at the time of the transition instead of total number of posts to date
Joined date changed - the "date joined" in the user info seems to have changed for me - no biggy but this might point to other problems
Incorrect migration of old formats - the old discussions had the editor shortcuts "ii " at the beginning of a new line to create italic text - all these post now display "i " at the start of such lines (with the text not being in bold)
Level info missing - according to the help file, a user should be able to see his/her level per topic as well as overall - I was not able to find this information at all
But then, I am happy to see that you are keeping to make improvements to this forum and I thank all of you for your work - I am especially happy about the new "Preview" button for new messages!
    Andreas

    Another items is:
Email Notification do not use subject of topic -
In old system the email notifications showed for example "New Formatting issues", or "Re: New Formatting issues". On new system email notifications so as example:"Apple Discussions forum "Feedback about New Discussions" has been updated by Andreas Amann", or "Apple Discussions forum "Feedback about New Discussions" has been updated by John Smith", and so on. Makes it impossible to thread post by topics because all notifications only change if the post is from another group.

Is this Solr collection created through Verity collection document? If so then it can be due to incomplete migration from Verity to Solr..
As you mentioned, Documents are located on a separate drive. -> Hope you are referring it to local drive on that machine, not any remote machine.. Ideally, it would be able to index the document from local drive from same machine..
