Incomplete page loads with Safari
Let me preface by saying that I am accessing the internet through Earthlink Satellite and I know there is a chance that my problems relate to that, but being that it takes me about seven-and-a-half months of hold time to reach a support person, I'm hoping that one of you may have insights in the event that this is a Safari problem.
I'm using MacBookPro (OSX 10.4.9) with Safari and I am geting many errors when loading complicated sites such as USA Today, MSNBC and MLB.com. I either get question marks or no image at all and Quicktime related images come up with the QT logo with a question mark. I've found that if I clear my Cache and delete all previous cookies, I can get nearly error free loads (although Quicktime stuff still comes up with question marks). But the problem returns soon after the purging.
If anyone has ideas regarding these problems I would be very grateful for help.
Hi
For the Quicktime ?, go to System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced>Mime Settings>Miscellaneous - uncheck "flash media". Restart Safari
Earthlink:
Go to your System Preferences>Network.
- Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
- Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Depending on whether you use a direct connection into the computer, or wirelss, only Ethernet or Airport, respectively ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply".
- Back to the "Show" menu, select either "Ethernet" or "Airport" (whichever applies). Click on the TCP panel. There, enter 207.69.188.171 and 207.69.188.172 (separate lines) in the DNS servers box and select "apply". These are Earthlink Codes as cited in this related article.
Select Apply.
Lastly, in the Finder, go to your Utilities folder and select "Terminal". Once the screen is open enter lookupd -flushcache and press return. This clears out the DNS cache. Once done, quit Terminal.
Creating a personal location, plus adding the DNS codes ought to improve the page loads.

Pages load with a "hiccup"...
Hi!
I have a problem with pages loading with a visual "hiccup". My site www.joecurtisband.com (Google will say it's going to my myspace, but it goes to the proper site) loads o.k. and everything is good EXECPT... when you go from one page to the next, as the new page loads the image and text "hiccup". Everything seems to load for a split second about an 1/8" higher than it should, then loads in place. This ONLY happens at the published site, not in iWeb. I took great pains to assure everything was consistent from page to page so it would flow nice. Any advise would be MUCH appreciated.
Thanks,
JosephAfter the pages load in the browser, a JavaScript is executed to draw the navigation bar at the top of each page.
That instance between loading the page and the drawing of the links takes a split second.
It's browser dependent too. Safari shows the hiccup. Firefox 3.0 & Flock do not. -

the website is devloped using HTML 4.
Thanks in advanceI have a similar problem in Leopard with Safari not loading pages correctly. I'm trying to troubleshoot now, so let me ask you some questions to see if its the same problem as mine.
Are you using an administrator account? On my machine it only acts up on non-administrator account.
Does Firefox or another web browser load the pages correctly? On my machine it has similar problems to Safari. -
Pages not loading with Safari, loads OK with Firefox
Hi
The site is fine on iMac intel and iBook but on G3s with safari I get this
# Exception: TypeError
# Message : Value undefined (result of expression IWAllImages.hasOwnProperty) i s not object.
# File : iWebImage.js, Line:18
The pages don't load and the images don't load, works alright with firefox on the G3
I don't know if it works on a pc... strange because it all worked fine before iWeb 08
Anyone else seen this?iWeb 2 writes page code that requires a modern (Web 2.0) browser.
Safari 3.1.1 is but Safari 1.3.2 is not.
Use Firefox or other more modern browser that can be installed on your older OS. -
Safari 2.0.3 - Pages load with no images or some images
Hi
I just bought a new iMac Intel. It comes with safari 2.0.3
Any page on the web loads without the images. In place of the image is a ? icon.
If I hit the reload button a few times, the images load up. Sometimes even after a dew reloads, some images are still not loaded.
Any idea why this is happening?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.I have not changed any of the Quicktime settings yet.
Since posting I have installed Firefox. Firefox loads the page www.apple.com flawlessly.
If you would like me to check any of the quicktime settings, can you give me more details on how to do this?
Thanks for your advice -
Slow web page loading in Safari with DSL
I've got an intermittent problem which may not be Safari-related, but I need to ask it anyway because Mac friends of mine have experienced similar problems.
I just changed my ISP from satellite interenet to mid-speed DSL. Ever since the changeover, I've found that more often than not, pages seem to load about 66%, then data reception seems to stop. When pages DO load, they load quickly, but most of the time, pages seem to stop loading at a certain point. If I hit refresh (often after several times), then the page loads as fast as lightning.
Could there be something with Safari that interacts with the DSL connection which causes the loading to stall? Many times, pages don't load at all, and I'm wasting time waiting for pages to "just pop up", Other times, I will get "Page Not Found" even though I KNOW there's a page existing at that particular location, yet Safari doesn't display it unless I first hit "Refresh". Still other times, The same pages load just fine, whether or not I empty the cache and close the downloads window.
Any ideas, people?
Jim Barg
Power Mac G5 Dual 2.0GHz Mac OS X (10.4.3) What other computer?Hi Jim,
The 'refresh to force the page to load' symptom is usually a sign that you either have the wrong DNS addresses specified in your Network preferences or your ISPs DNS server are very slow.
Have a search for DNS on the Safari forum - there's quite a few posts and sample addresses for you to try out.
Good luck. -
Slow Web Page Loading in Safari & Firefox
A few months ago, Safari began loading web pages extremely slowly, regardless of the Internet connection. I don’t recall doing anything special at the time; it just kind of started all of a sudden. I thought it might a problem with Safari, so I downloaded Firefox. Although Firefox was a bit faster at first, it quickly (over the course of about 1 week) slowed down as well. To reiterate, the browser application itself was loading quite rapidly, yet the web pages were taking a very long time. On average, it takes more than 90 seconds to load a web page as simple as Google.com. Before this problem began, a web page would usually take an average of about 15-20 seconds to load. I am sure that it is NOT due to my Internet connection because the problem remains regardless of whether I am at home (where I have a cable connection) or at work (where I know the Internet connection is very reliable). To further support this, my roommate who has a 4 year old Dell PC loads web pages using Internet Explorer significantly faster than I do (with my 2.5 year old MacBook Pro). I have not noticed any kind of performance decrease with any of my other software or hardware; the computer still starts-up quickly, and all of my other software applications are very responsive. Any suggestions on how I might fix this issue?
Before this problem began, a web page would usually take an average of about 15-20 seconds to load
I would call that slow! 1-5 seconds should be the maximum.
The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 / )
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
form values
download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
com.apple.Safari.plist
Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved. -
Firefox 3.6.6 Mac Tabs Unresponsive & Incomplete Page Loads
Ever since the 3.6.6 upgrade for Mac, running under OSX 10.6.4, my tabs load, but then I cannot select any of the "buried" tabs the mouse. The top tab "page load thermometer" at the bottom left of the status bar never completes to the point where it says "Done," despite the page being fully loaded and active. (The bar remains, showing about a 98% load....)
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== I upgraded to FF 3.6.6 MacThis must be the crappiest upgrade to Firefox. It's totally worthless. I'm currently now using Safari because of it because I don't want to bother with reloading a previous version of Firefox.

Help Center | Community Toolbar
If those instructions don't work, proceed as follows.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Application Support/Conduit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). From the Finder menu bar, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder…
Paste (command-V) into the box that opens, then press return. A Finder window should open with a folder named "Conduit" selected. If it does, delete the selected item.
Repeat with this line:
/Applications/Toolbars
Now you're deleting a folder named "Toolbars". You may be prompted for your login password. Next, copy this line:
/Library
Select Go to Folder… again and paste. Don't delete the Library folder. Delete only the following items inside it, if they exist.
Application Support/Conduit
InputManagers/CTLoader
LaunchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
ScriptingAdditions/ct_scripting.osax
Close the Finder windows you opened. Log out and log back in.
I've seen a report that Conduit may be bundled with a scam "utility" called "MacKeeper." If you installed MacKeeper, you should remove it according to the developer's instructions. It's worthless and causes many problems reported on this site.
While you're at it, also remove DivX, CoolIris, and "FBPlugin" (whatever that is) according to the respective developers' instructions. -
FAST Cable Internet -- SLOW page loading, both Safari & Firefox
We switched from slow DSL (speed was about 2.5) to a fast Comcast cable service. Speed is now like 20 download with very low ping.
Using Safari 4.1.1 and Firefox 3.5.11 --- I keep having pages load very slow, even when daily frequenting the same pages, and especially when visiting a couple forums, same forums I frequent almost daily.... Both browsers will take 40-50 seconds to load those boards...
So, since both my browsers are acting the same, it might be something to adjust in both, or the issue is in one of my System Prefs. settings, and I'd like to find out which one and what can I check and change....
Thanks!Gtreat might see this...
What are question answers?
When a community member posts a question as a topic starter, other members can post an answer in reply. Please note that not all replies actually answer the question.
An answer can be just some hints or helpful information to help the poster solve an issue. The originator of the topic can mark such a reply as a "Helpful" post. A small yellow star will appear next to that reply and the person who posted the reply will be awarded 5 points. Here's what a reply marked as being "Helpful" looks like:
If a community member posts a specific answer that provides a solution to the original poster's issue, the originator can mark this reply as a "Solved" post. A large green star will appear next to that reply and the person who posted the reply will be awarded 10 points. Here's what a "Solved" post looks like:

Very slow page loading on Safari
I am having problems with my Mac. I am not sure if it is the Safari software or something else. For the past several weeks my computer has been very slow at loading pages, going to the next page, going back to a previous page etc. Can anyone tell me what I need to do or check to make it run faster. It used to run very fast. Thanks Vickie
I had a similar problem with Safari (or any browser) taking a very long time to load pages. Downloading files is fast (6 Mbit/s) so I knew my network speed was OK. I usually run wirelessly both at work and home and the problem was the same no matter where I was working. When I directly connected to an Ethernet line, browsing was fast again so I looked into the network setting for my airport connection and found I had switched the "Location" from "Automatic" to a specific DHCP setting. I don't know why but when I switched back to "Automatic" everything was fine again (super fast as before). Specifically, I just went to the "Apple" menu icon (top left and hit "Location->Automatic". That's all.

Internet Browsing Very, Very Slow/Incomplete Page Loads
_*The Computers:*_
MacPro 2008 dual quad core and MacBookPro 2.66 mid 2009 both running OS 10.5.8.
_*The Problem:*_
The Mac Pro which is hard wired is very very slow and many times will time out before it can load a page or will only load part of the page (lots of little boxes with question marks in them or page loads part of the way and stops)and the wheel just keeps spinning. Sometimes I can hit the x and reload and it will work just fine. Sometimes, this does not help. The MacBook Pro which is wireless behaves the same way.
_*The Internet Set Up:*_
DSL line runs from wall to Surewest (ISP) router, then out to a 5 port Dlink switch. From the switch I run straight into the Mac Pro and to the Airport Express. The Airport Express is about 2.5 years old. It runs b/g while the MacBook Pro has draft N capability. I noticed that since I replaced my older MacBook Pro which was b/g, the new one shows a much stronger signal, which is why I can't understand why its slower.
_*The Testing:*_
I don't think its my ISP because when I run speedtest.net, I get what I always get, 3mb/s download and I have run that test many, many times over the last few days. The only change has been in the ping. It used to be consistently 16-17 ms and now it varies going as high as 24-26 ms. I have no clue if that is indicative of a problem. Data downloads, including iTunes work just fine.
_*Potential Culprit:*_
The only other change was that this weekend, I downloaded xmarks (formerly foxmarks) to unify and coordinate my bookmarks across both computers. I have since run the xmarks uninstaller on both machines and deleted the online account. However, it has not made any difference.
_*Attempted Solutions:*_
I already rebooted the Airport Express and changed the channel from auto to a higher number. No effect.
_*Other Possible Solutions:*_
I will reboot the ISP modem tonight.
I am also considering uninstalling and reinstalling Safari with the thought that xmarks somehow screwed it up, but I also had the problem in Firefox in which I did not install xmarks. If I pull the Safari bookmark.plst file before I uninstall Safari, I should be able to just drop it in to the fresh install and keep my bookmarks.
Someone suggested that I switch to Open DNS. This is beyond my area of expertise so to speak, so I am a little afraid to mess with it. If one of you wouldn't mind giving me a more complete explanation and instructions, I would appreciate it.
Any other thoughts, advice or things to try? Thanks for the assistance.Greetings,
Deleting and then reinstalling Safari is not a solution, so I would strongly advise against it. It's very rare that the application you're having a problem with using is the actual problem; rather, it's something the program relies on that is causing the problem. Instead, try this:
Quit Safari if it's running and open System Preferences>Network>Advanced.
In the DNS Server window, make sure IPv6 is turned off, and enter these two DNS servers to replace the ones you currently have (if any):
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
click Apply Now and quit System Preferences.
Next, do these things in order:
1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites feature, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
Downloads.plist
History.plist
Form Values
LastSession.plist
WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Disk Permisions, restart Safari and see if the speed is improved. -
My email got hacked. I used antivirus software in an attempt to resolve the issue.
I don't know if this is related, but now when I launch Safari, no pages load. No matter what URL I use, I just get a white window. I have attempted to uninstall or delete Safari and reinstall it, but because it is part of the system software (thanks Apple, for limiting my flexibility!) I cannot.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have had to switch to Firefox just to get on the Internet.
I have searched the discussion groups, but have found nothing.
I tried to use Time Machine to load an earlier version, but can't replace the newer Safari, because "it is part of the system!"
Surely there must be a way to resolve this.Your email password getting hacked it totally unrelated to a virus.
Your profile indicates your Mac has v10.7.3 installed.
So, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access the built in utilities to restore OS X.
The only way to reinstall Safari on Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Apple does recommend a high speed broadband connection for OS X Recovery.
And if you have not done so this yet, change your email password ASAP. Changing it on a timely basis will help prevent it being hacked again.
If you ever have problems with Safari loading pages again, come here and ask for help. And having a backup browser installed was a very smart thing to do on your part

Btyahoo homepage not loading with Safari on iPad
Safari will not load my Bt Yahoo homepage, all other web page load ok.
On further investigation it seems that BT is changing servers this month (October 2013) from Yahoo to BT's own. This means that the BT/Yahoo page will dissapear altogether. The BT help desk does not give you this information. all they tell you that it is either a fault on the iPad or Safari. The BTYahoo home page is loading OK on the iMac at the moment but I suppose we will be loosing that soon.

[SOLVED] GNOME's "Something went wrong" msg, how to know what's wrong?
Is it possible to know what is wrong? I searched this forum a bit, usually `startx` and ~/.xsession-errors file are mentioned, but I don't use the former, and I don't have the latter. I login through GDM, running it as systemd service. Last edited by
