Incomplete use of display area of external 21.5 inch monitor (1920x1080)

Attaching an external monitor (LG E2211S. 1920x1080, 21.5 inch) and adjusting the resolution for this display to 1920 x 1080 while keeping the labtop display in function as well, results in a wide black rim around the desktop area on the external display.
How to use the whole screen area without reducing the display resolution? I am running Win 7, 64
Is the INTEL HD Graphics 3000 to blame?
I update the driver form the toshiba site, trying both version 8.15.10.2353, and .15.10.2509, same unsatisfactory result. There is no way to manually enlarge the display are with buttons, the automatic positioning does not change this situation. The same screen on an older desktop ran well when updating a driver.
When investigating a driver update from the INTEL site a warning appears stating that the manufacturers drive may e=have additional functionality, which should not be replaced.
This should just work, what is wrong?

How to use the whole screen area without reducing the display resolution? I am running Win 7, 64
What settings did you choose?
Extended desktop or clone displays?
I use extended desktop and I could set different resolution for internal display and external monitor.
The built in display supports an resolution of 1366x768 and scaling is set to Scale Full Screen.
The external monitor support the resolution of 1920x1080 and scaling is set to Maintain Display Scaling.
Everything is OK

  • Using different resolutions on ACD 20 and 30 inch monitors

    I have a Mac Pro with dual monitors. One is the 30 inch ACD and the other is the 20 inch ACD. They are being run off an ATi 1900XT for the 30 and the Nvidia 7300 for the 20. I really want to put the desktop on the 20 inch monitor and run my games on the 30. When I set it up this way the resolution for the games is limited to what the resolution is set to on the 20. Is there a way to do this or is it just a limitation of the OS? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    J.C.

    If mirroring is off, there is nothing in OSX limiting the resolution on the 30" display. The problem must be in the game. If you only have two displays, try removing the 7300, and put both displays on the 1900.

  • Can I use iMac display as an external monitor with a pc?

    I have a Windows laptop with VGA output. Can I connect this laptop's VGA output to mini display port of my 27" iMac?

    This can't be done. VGA is an audio signal and there are no converters to turn it into a digital Display Port (DP) or Mini Display Port (MDP) signal. DVI and HDMI are digital signals (with HDMI having audio and a different physical connector) that can be converted into an MDP signal, but doing so requires an expensive converter or an even more expensive converter and scaler if you want to get full resolution on the target display. The cheaper but perhaps more complicated alternative is to replace your PC video card with a DP/MDP card after which you should be able to drive the 27" iMac display without any converter. Apple didn't include DVI/HDMI input capability in the 27" iMac because that would have required additional circuitry that would have raised the price substantially.

  • Is it possible to use the iMac display as en external monitor?

    I want to connect my powerbook up to an iMac using the display as an external monitor for the laptop. Is this even possible? Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Hello,
    I've seen this post at least a hundred times. Has
    anyone actually had the gusto to try this idea?
    I don't remember where the page was. But, I posted it's link several months ago in the forums during another discussion.
    But, the guy who had done it to his iMac G3 had very poorly documented his conversion.
    Basically, he took and wired signal to same signal on the monitor, and adapted his power supply and other items to work properly in the modified setup.
    So, it is possible. You just need to sit down with the schematics and wire signal to same signal, and make sure you account for all the variables. It may take some resistors, etc. to get the adaptation just right.
    I don't have any reason to do it myself, so I'm not going to tinker with it.
    If I remembered the link, I'd post it. But, it wouldn't do much good anyway since his HTML formatting was severely messed-up. The end-result was accurate information that was scrambled around on the screen in such a way that you couldn't decipher it anyway. If he had done the HTML work properly, it would be in a formatted table. But, instead the information was scattered all over the screen in an illogical format. So, it wasn't of much real use.

  • Innovate use of Display and wireless keyboard!

    Dear Apple
    I want to get rid of the noise of my Macbook when using the Cinema Display.
    And I have following solution in mind...
    Please make it possible that wireless keyboard and trackpad communicate directly to the Display (by blue tooth) and via the Display wired to the Macbook.
    Provide us with a cable of 6 meter so we can put that Macbook in another room and use the wireless Keyboard sitting in front of the Display.
    Right now the keyboard has to be close to the Macbook, to make blue tooth work without failure, and that is not logical!!
    The logic relation is the distance from the keyboard to the display, because these 2 items have to be close during working: looking at the display while typing...
    The other relation, keyboard to Macbook doesnot need to be close!!
    I would love to put my Macbook in the room beside, not hearing the noise and work in front of the display!
    Everyone using a Display has the same problem: Macbook makes noise because the grafic card needs cooling while serving the huge display...
    And the only ones using a Display are those that have macbook and not iMac!!
    Please do something about it!
    Thanks Joost

    There are several ways you can do this now.
    Depending on which display you have, you can probably purchase a long extending cord or cords for it to connect to whatever ports you have on the MacBook (this may not work with Thunderbolt, I don't know). You would also need to extend the USB connection, and FireWire if you need it. If you have an Apple Display that also powers the MacBook with a MagSafe connection, you'll have to power the MacBook from its own wall power brick instead.
    As for Bluetooth, there are plenty of small Bluetooth adapters that plug right in to a USB port, and are very small. You wouldn't notice them behind an Apple Cinema display.
    And remember, depending on where the MacBook is in relation to the keyboard, you may still be able to use the built-in BT. If, for example, your MacBook is just on the other side of a wall, you still may be in range, even though you need a long cord to go around the wall.

  • Using a functioning iMac G4 flat panel as a monitor

    My precious computer is almost 5 years old.
    I seem to be fortunate, in that she still works beautifully (monitor and all).
    I am graduating soon, and am trying to find out if I can just try to raise the funds for a Mac mini, and use the display on my current machine as a monitor (thus saving me money).
    I've seen a few other postings about this sort of issue, but they all fall into one of three categories: 1) the motherboard on the G4 is dead and the poster would like to use the machine as a monitor, 2) someone wants to add a second monitor to the G4 and use both, or 3) the monitor on the G4 is dead and the poster wants to use another monitor with the working computer.
    My issue does not fall into any of these categories, as both my motherboard and monitor work, and I don't wish to have a second monitor. Is anyone familiar with this issue, or is this just a variation on type 1 above?

    SanfordR, Welcome to the discussion area!
    You might want to take a look at ScreenRecycler.

    I have a PowerBook G4 with a non-functioning monitor.  It used to work with an external monitor, but I reinstalled the OS, which cleared the display preferences and now when I restart it won't detect the external monitor. This means I can't use the computer anymore. How do I fix? I tried using the Command+F2 keyboard shortcut, but it doesnt' work.  It's possible that since I reinstalled the OS, it still needs to be set up, so there's only a welcome screen (but since I can't see it I'm not sure).

    There is no limit to the number of times you can re-install Office on the same computer.
    You can activate by telephone:

  • Using Win 10 there is a need for an app to determine the full device display area and aspect ratio programitically; the dimensions are needed to create full-screen bitmap.

    While Windows.Current.Bounds returns the application windows size, in order to create a full-screen bitmap my app would need to retrieve the full display area  of the device. I cannot even get the aspect ratio.
    Pre-Win10, using Windows.Current.Bounds I can create a bitmap of whatever size application window the user is seeing. When the user is showing my app at full screen, I can therefore get the full display area and aspect ratio of the device and create a full-screen
    bitmap.
    With Win10, the user would need to know to hide the taskbar and also display at full-screen before an app can retrieve the display area and aspect ratio using Windows.Current.Bounds.
    Before Win10 it's obvious to the user that full-screen is or is not being used. When I create the bitmap, I create it to fit the application window. When the app is displayed full screen, the bitmap will be full screen. Also, the app starts full-screen so
    I can detect the display area at startup if I need to.
    With Win10, to the user the app "looks like" it is full screen with the taskbar displayed even though it's not really full screen.
    I believe that in Win10 determining the full display area will be useful and not just retrieving the application window size.

    Rob, Is this forum best way to get my suggestion to the development team?

    Yes, Windows.Current.Bounds does work the same, but I believe that in Win10 determining the full display area will be useful and not just the application window.

  • Thunderbolt - Using the macbook as an external display

    Hey, just wondering if Im able to use my macbook as an external display for my imac instead of my imac being used as an external display for my macbook? Im using thunderbolt to connect them.
    Cheers

    No. Only iMacs currently support that via Target Display Mode. You can use a utility such as ScreenRecycler or a VPN utiility to display the screen via the USB port, but it will be quite slow. You can also use Screen Sharing in the Sharing preferences.

  • Reg:Whether to use BPM or not when the channels are controlled externally

    Dear All,
    My scenario is File to File and for this the channels are controlled  externally.
    This is achieved through the  Abap proxies to Http receiver scenario, where udf is being implemented for this.
    UDF:
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey trig = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/HTTP", "UrlParamOne");
    DynamicConfigurationKey trig1 = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/HTTP", "UrlParamTwo");
    DynamicConfigurationKey trig2 = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/HTTP", "UrlParamThree");
    DynamicConfigurationKey trig3 = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/HTTP", "UrlParamFour");
    conf.put(trig,action);
    conf.put(trig1,party);
    conf.put(trig2,service);
    conf.put(trig3,channel);
    return "";
    If the value of the Action is START then the existing communication channel should be stopped and restarted  again .
    If the value of the Action is STOP then the stop action should be performed.
    For this I have implemented two mappings  and condition is being given in Interface determination
    so as to have the splitting of messages when the start action is performed.
    Can anyone suggest me how to implement this by using a single mapping or this could be achieved only through BPM?
    Thanks in Advance,

    Hi ,
       My requirement is ,I need to merge two mappings into one mapping without using BPM.
    My File to File scenario communication channel is controlled externally by using Proxy-to-Http scenario.
    For this I have used two mappings say when the value for the action is START then the File receiver communication channel should be stopped(which is already polling) and again the Action START should passed to the Receiver File Channel to start again using the proxy-http scenario.
    Now I need to merge the two mappings into a single mapping so as to perform the above stated flow without using BPM.

  • Using Business area for External Reporting-Pros & Cons?

    Dear Freinds,
    We are a Retail Business Group half way through SAP IS Retail implementation. We have 8 legal entities, currently their complete Annual Financials are being made & audited separately. In SAP the structure is that there is Single Co. Code & transactions will be seggregated by Business Area (made manadatory for data entry) and Annual Accounts will be drawn up using Business Area.
    This to me does not seem to be the right structure. I have joined the group recently, I will be much thankful to you all if you please help me list the Pros & Cons of using Business Area for external reporting.

    Dan: <i>For management reporting you may not want to post eliminations between companies where the business areas are the same.</i>
    If the Business wants to see the eliminations between companies, within the same business area, as part of BEx reports, what should I do? They do not want to execute consolidation functions in UCMON but just want to see how the eliminations have taken place between companies with in the same business area.
    Dan: <i>As long as the partner company and partner business area are consistently included for the intercompany transactions, the eliminations between Legal and Management will agree at the top-level of each hierarchy.</i>
    Have I to introduce one more InfoObject Partner Business Area in the data basis and assign the role Sub-assignment once again?
    Thanks in advance.

  • How do you use multiple displays with a MacBook Pro and iMac

    I have an iMac and a MacbookPro laptop both upgraded to OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).  I'd like to use multiple displays with them.  Can I do this without an Apple TV?  They are both on the same network.  If I can, can someone please give some instructions on how this can be done?
    Thanks!

    Both computers have ports for external monitors. Check your user manuals. Only one display can be added to the MBP, but newer iMacs have dual Thunderbolt ports.
    Do your own Google research to learn what to do, but reading your manuals should be all you really need. It' not rocket science yet.

  • Is there a way to use the eMac as an external monitor

    I haven't used my Emac for awhile, but my 17" powerbook is now having a serious display problem and I can't even see the log-in screen. I want to use the Emac as an external monitor or at least have sharing between the two machines. They are both using 10.4.11. What do I need to do to connect them?

    You need to connect them via ethernet or wirelessly, plus a product such as ScreenRecycler. Conventional video in isn't available on most Macs.

  • MacBook suddenly won't detect my display, Using Mini Display Port to VGA?

    MacBook suddenly won't detect my display, Using Mini Display Port to VGA?

    dohdoh1985, I have the exact same problem also! I recently bought a 42" RCA LCD TV. I connected my MacBook Pro to my TV using a Dynex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter that I got from BestBuy. It worked great until I upgraded to Mac OS 10.6.4 and then it suddenly stopped working. Same TV, same settings, same cables, same adapter. Nothing changed since the last time it worked except that my OS was upgraded to 10.6.4, so i am assuming that is the culprit. The symptoms are EXACTLY the same as what dohdoh1985 described; when I plug in the TV, the laptop display flashes (3 times) as though it is detecting an external display and the picture on the TV briefly goes from blue to black for about 1 second then back to blue. The TV does not appear in the display menu / control panel and there is no sign that the MacBook detected it. I went through the usual troubleshooting steps (reset PRAM, checked connections, tv settings, etc) but nothing worked. Other HDMI sources (i.e. Blu-ray player) work fine on the TV using the same HDMI cable on the same port so there is nothing wrong with the cable, the TV or the TV's input settings.
    Meanwhile, I can still connect my MacBook to my external ViewSonic monitor at work without any problems. It's just the TV that's not working.
    I cancelled my cable subscription a while ago since I only watch shows online nowadays and this was my only way of watching TV shows, so I'm quite upset.
    Apple, please help!
