Inconsistant import speed problem with Widows XP

I have installed iTunes on my Dell with Windows XP.
Most CD's import at speeds of 13x but some (and there does not appear to be any constant e.g. age, band etc.) start with import speeds of 0.1X.
Any help would be appreciated.

You are right it is not consistent, even with the same disk. I cancelled an import, ejected the disk, re-inserted, started importing again at normal speed.
My normal import speed is 5x-7x with error correction on, up to 9x with error correction off. Never seen higher than 9.2x on this machine using iTunes. Cdex can go faster though, but that is two step process of ripping then adding to library.

  • Import speed problems with 7.1.1.5

Hi bit of a weird one this - I have just upgraded to iTunes 7.1.1.5 and now CDs import really slowly and if I leave them to install in the background (whilst doing something else) they don't install at all! I have to have the iTunes window on the screen for it to import.
Any suggestions / fixes for this upgrade. If not is it possible to return to my previous version?
      Windows XP

with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

The XSD cardinality for the Address\Item is 0..n

    Hi Evandro ,
If it is processing the input file correctly through the Manul Import manager process then update your latest Map by using SAVE As option or else save this correct map with a new name altogether and use this new map in the port for automatic importing.
If your file is able to process correctly through the Import manager without showing any errors till the Import step in the Import manager then this map must be correct and shoul automate the importing correctly.
Provided you are using the similar file for automatic importing as well. The file name and the fields as well as the value mapping as saved in this corrected map must not differ with the input file else this saved map will not be able to import correctly.
Check to see if you have made correct setting for automatic importing by refering the below link:

  • Mouse Scroll speed problems with JVM

I could not find Java (Apple’s JVM ) forums, so I might be posting this in the wrong forum. With that disclaimer, here is my issue:
I am running into a problem where the mouse-wheel scrolling speed configurations are not being properly passed to Java applications. I have set my scrolling speed to the maximum, all works well with regula apps, yet when I use my mouse-wheel to scroll and window in a Java application, scrolling it is unbearably slow, the wheel becomes useless.
Also, horizontal scrolling does not work in any java application either.
I believe these are a problem with Apple's JVM implementation. Are there any workarounds?
    Has anyone else experience this?
    JVM v1.5

Does this happen with all Java apps or just a handful? I ask because I found that OpenOffice scrolls so slowly that it's unusable. However, I think this is an issue with OO, not with Java. Other Java apps scroll fine for me.

  • Import table - problems with date

    Hi,
I want to import an table from text file with date column. The format in file is 12.01.2000 13:59:12.
When importing the preview of column value is 2000-12-01 13:59:12. I've then added the format YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS. After import all rows with date of year 1999 or below are failed.
Does anybody know why and how can I solve this problem?
    Thanks
    chrissy

    Hi Dimitri,
yes all rows with date of year 2000 or higher are correct. It shows me the YYYY-DD-MM HH24:MI format if it recognizes the column as date. Somehow I get it worked that it is recognized as varchar, changed to date and set format to DD.MM.YYYY HH24:MI. So it was imported fine.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Controlled test shows imovie 08 import is problem with image quality

    Friends,
Like many others I thought that I had noticed a quality difference between imovie 08 and imovie 06. So I did a controlled test:
I imported the same video into imovie 08 and imovie 06. I made two separate movies out of the video in 08 and two separate movies out of the video in 06. I then exported one of the 06 movies into 08 and one of the 08 movies into 06. I then burned all four movies to dvd.
The resulting burns were the following:
    1. imported into 06, burned through 06
    2. imported into 06, exported to 08 and burned through 08
    3. imported into 08 and burned through 08
    4. imported into 08, exported to 06 and burned through 06.
    The result:
The movies imported into 06 were clearly superior in image quality to those imported into 08. I couldn't tell a difference between the 06 imports burned through 08 and 06. I also couldn't detect a difference between movies imported into 08 and burned in 06 and 08.
What is it about 08 import that causes quality degradation? I couldn't find any quality preferences to change.
I suppose this post isn't much different from the others along this line but I couldn't find any that did this type of controlled test.
Applecare had no idea why there was this difference.
    Steve

I think I've solved my problem with a Google Search. I came across a free slide show generator
(contributions requested) that shows much higher quality slide shows than either iPhoto or Aperture 3.
You click on a folder of jpegs and it almost immediately generates thumbnails and within a few seconds
I can be viewing a full screen, tack sharp, slideshow of all of the files in the folder. Much sharper than
    I'm used to seeing.
I think I'll keep the Aperture 3 and use if for the purpose it's intended for in the future. I'll also redo the
image preview files to the small size it started with and then I'll copy all of the files I'm interested in from
iPhoto into a separate folder on another disk. I'll use Aperture to catalog and to perform image manipulations
on but I won't try to use it as an iPhoto replacement. I don't think I'll be using iPhoto much as an image
viewer in the future either after I finish moving my favorite pictures to the Phoenix Slides folder.
The name of the free program is Phoenix Slides. It's free to download and try, free to keep (though I
think you'd want to pay the small amount requested) and fast. My pictures have never looked so good
    before.

  • Bad noise/ fan speed problem with Rev B iMac

Like a lot of other people, I'm having problems with ridiculous fan noise. I've read through the forum and tried the following (with no success):
    1) Reset SMU (x2)
    2) Ran Maintenance Scripts. (x2)
    3) Removed the back and blew dust from fans, ports, etc.
The processor is set to automatic. The problem occurs whether or not I have any peripherals plugged in. I get the noise/rpms when all I have running is Safari and XRG.
On certain websites, the CPU fan will climb to 5600, CPU temp to 79C, with CPU usage at 80-90%.
Does this sound like a logic board problem? Something else, possibly?
Basically, I'm trying to cover all of my bases before I get on the phone with AppleCare. I'd like to try to keep that as short as possible. Thanks in advance for any help/comments.

Just an FYI. During my iMacs motherboard replacements (3) I was never asked for a case number once. I spent hours on the phone with Applecare when in reality I already new I had a hardware problem and if I would have just taken it in it would have been fixed quicker. The third time I took my iMac G5 in for service the local tech told me to call up Applecare (3rd time then call) and ask for a replacement stating that if they need to call me he would explain that I had a lemon. In everyone of the three bad motherboards the fans spun out of control so I have more experience than I would prefer on this subject. They did step up and as you can see in my profile I have a new Intel iMac courtesy of Apple.

All of my woes in the past have been caused by momentary interruptions to the line, which is to be expected in Rural Lincolnshire 2k from the phone exchange thats been stocked with ancient eqipment and connected with lines decades old to houses with decades old wiring.
the mometary interruptions seemed to cause the ip profile to go screwy so that the phone exchange refuses to relinquish download bandwidth to me, at my computer I am DLing at 15kbs
as you can see the upload speed is much faster than the download, and supports the notion that the line itself is capable of handling higher speeds.
The ping is an interesting consideration as its at 57ms, yesterday it was 250ms and would shoot up to 1000ms the second you actually tried doing anything.
this happens quite often as out here in the sticks power cuts and other interruptions are to be expected, and while it get frustrated at paying the same as a city go-er who gets 8MB broadband, I understand that BT can't be expected to provide perfect service in such a large sparsely populated area.
So, how do I deal with this? in teh past I've phoned up and had to do a song and dance routine to get to someone who would give me the number to the engineering dept so that someone with expertise can talk to me, who would promise to leave a call at the phone exchange for the guy to fix me up...thats alot of money down the drain on the call and alot of my time wasted just so that I can be told "please don't disconnect your router for 72hrs so that blah blah"
covering my bases (for anyone who thinks its a problem on my end)
    tried different microfilters
3 different computers with different OS's, AVs etc all find same problem
2 different routers (both BT home hubs, one v1 and one v2)
tried reseting routers multiple times and to factory settings
router is in the master telephone socket which goes directly to the main line outside
right now performance is so low that I cannot watch a youtube video in real time with it on the lowest possible resolution (ordinarily I can watch one at 360, not great but acceptable.
If I leave the router plugged in and nothing interrupts it, then eventually this will fix itself, shortest time for this has been 12hrs, the longest has been 1 week. While the internet is indeed a source of great personal enjoyment for me and others in this household, its also something we came to rely on professionally and organisationally before we came to this house. a week where simply checking your e-mail takes 10x longer or viewing even a simple .jpeg file takes several minutes causes immense frustration and setback.
If anyone can help on any issue here, I would be most grateful.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi I understand your problems unfortunately you are at the end of a very long line your attenuation figures show your line length as 4.7km from the exchange and with a perfect line you may get 1.6mb however that is an ideal world your disconnections are the cause of low speed as you say this reduces your IP profile unfortunately as the setting of the ip profile is automatic all you can do is wait the typical 3/5 days of stable connection for your profile to restore there is no faster way of restoring it i am afraid as even intervention here by the board mods need a minimum of 3 days stable connection before bt wholesale will raise the profile yo could check you phone line for any noise on voice calls by dialling 17070 and selecting option 2 you should here no noise preferably using a corded phone in the test socket at the back of the master socket any noise heard should be reported as an voice fault phone 151 and report it however do not mention broadband if there is any noise once solved your broadband should improve accordingly after a few days

  • Speed problem with mpegs

When I download or try and watch a quicktime movie online it last like only 5 seconds and it's at the end of the movie. I have uninstalled and reinstalled QT but it still doesn't run at the correct speed. Also if I download it with keep dropping the download so I have to retry several time.

You may have a bad camera card, bad card reader, bad cable or bad USB port. You might want to try different hardware to do the import.

  • Are sprint and apple trying to fix the 3g speed problem with the iphone 4s?

Ive had my 4s for about a month now, and i am about 50% happy with it. The internet speed is so slow when im not on wi-fi, and
in the evenings the picture mail service is so slow, since it runs on the 3g network. Ive sat back and waited to see if it gets better, but
doesn't look like it has. I haven't even seen where sprint nor apple have stated that there is a problem, and that really makes me mad.
Why did i pay $200 for an iphone that I cant even use to the full advatange people. Sprint and Apple really need to make a statement and
fix this problem, they are going to loose a lot of customers.  Thanks.

  • Speed problems with dual band AEBS

I got the new dual band AEBS to replace a belkin b/g router I had and so far it has been a headache. When it started it had 7.4.0 I think and it had speed issues. Certain web sites would take forever to load, even on my imac that was hardwired to the router. My wife's MacBook 1.8 ghz Core Duo (802.11g) had a strong signal but the speed on the web was also really slow, almost like dial up speeds.
I upgraded to 7.4.1 and the speed on the locally attached computer got way better, but my wife's laptop still is acting really slow over wireless.
I wanted to hook up my 2 TB raid to the thing as a AirDisk, but so far I don't trust the router enough to do it. Its a bit dissapointing as I am a real Apple fan in general.
    Questions -
    1) should I go to 7.3.2? Is this even possible with a dual band device?
    2) is it possible that her laptop is trying to get on the wrong network and going slow for that reason?

I'm having the very same problem. Although I've upgraded to the new dual-band ABS (from ABSE), I was getting slower speeds on wireless after the 7.4.1 upgrade. In fact some of the speeds occasionally approach near dial-up while the Mac wired to the ABS is getting near DSL speeds. Very annoying.

  • Installation / speed problems with Infinity

I had Infinity 1 installed in mid September.  I was promised 40.8Mb/s download and 6.1Mb/s upload, so I went for Infinity 1, knowing that the download would be capped at 38Mb/s.
When the Openreach engineer did the installation, he failed to check that our telephone extensions worked before he left.  Unfortunately the main extension (with our main phone on) was not connected back in properly and didn't work.  I reported this as a fault on the day, but fixed the wiring myself and cancelled the fault 24 hours later.
Since day 1 our broadband download speed has never got above 20Mb/sec.  I finally reported this as a fault this week and have spent many a long hour since on calls to various customer services / engineering teams trying to get it resolved.  There was discussion about whether it was a fault with the line, that there was an outage at our exchange etc. etc.  I've done all of the tests asked, including resetting the Modem, disconnecting everything else from the Hub, disconnecting the phone lines from the Master socket etc., but none of these have increased the rate and the IP profile is still hovering around 19-20 Mb/sec.  They think that the profile may have got locked to a low value when the fault was first reported on the line.
I'm now being told that the only thing I can do is request an engineer visit with the possibility of a £130 fee if they deem that the fault is due to anything in the property.
Can the IP Profile be reset remotely?  I've seen a few people on here complaining that they have been charged for a visit that they did not feel was their responsibility.  I really don't want the threat of this and have held off agreeing to a visit as I feel I have never received the product I signed up for.
Does anyone know either how to get my issue resolved without an engineer visit, or am I being unreasonable to expect a visit without the risk of a big fee?
All in all I've been disappointed with the lack of customer services from BT.
    Many thanks,
    Colin

Your problem is that you have had a faulty install most likely as it was a contractor who did it as an Openreach engineer wold have shown you everything working correctly.
You have compounded the error by trying to fix it yourself instead of reporting a phone line fault and awaiting an engineer to correct.
I'm going to flag this for a mod who will help you through it as IMHO you should not be charged for the faulty install to be rectified.
Please note:- Once you have contactec=d the mods via the link you will be given it will take 3-5 days for them to get back to you.
You are best advised not to contact BT in that time but to wait for the mods who will be your one point of contact until resolution.

  • Internet upload speed problems with 10.6.8?, internet upload speed problems with 10.6.8?

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard in November 2013, internet connection speed has been slow.  Using ATT DSL at advertised speeds of 3.0 M download and 0.3 M upload.  Download is acceptable at 2.55 M average using Speedtest.net.  Upload is very slow at 0-0.1.  ATT has checked everthing and says its ok.  They gave me updated Netgear 7550 modem that didn't make a difference but is more modern that my original 2-Wire 1000.  They checked inside and outside lines.  They run a test of my modem and get 0.5 M upload, yet using my iMac and Speedtest.net, I get much less which is consistent with online experience.  Pages are slow to start download, and sending photos with email is very slow.  Could my iMac with 10.6.8 be the problem?

    OK, two things to try:
Do you have Javascript activated (not Java)?
Is your version of Flash Player up to date?
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.  Version 11.4.402.265 is for Snow Leopard onwards.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • Clock speed problem with MSI K8M Neo-V

    Hi all,
I'm a newbie on all this tasks of mounting my own PC, so I'm very sorry if my question is stupid and is already answered in the forum (I didn't find it).
    I have the following components:
    - MSI K8M Neo-V
    - 2 SATA HD 160 Gb
    - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+
    - 512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
My problem is that I cannot get my AMD 3200 to run at 3200 Mhz. What I
    only get is:
    - CPU ratio x11
    - CPU FSB clock 210
    - Dynamic overclocking colonel (my BIOS doesn't have general or
    commander, as shown in manual)
That makes a total of 2.31 Mhz, far away from the 3.2 desired.
If I try to change this values to others higher (such as FSB 230), I get a black screen
and I need to reset BIOS.
Please, could you help me solve this situation? I find it really
disturbing to have bought a new AMD 64 3200 with a good motherboard,
and not being able to make it run at the appropiate speed.
Thank you very much in advance.

3.2GHz.  Wow.  I would kill to have an A64 at that speed.  :D
Quote from: Tiresmoke on 14-April-05, 23:19:47
AMD's don't run at the speed they have listed on the CPU, rather that is a performance equivalent number. In this instance your CPU has the equivalent performance of an Intel that runs at 3200Mhz.
Actually I believe the Performance number equivalent to the MHz an AMD Thunderbird would be at, NOT an Intel CPU.
