Inconsistencies Printing pdf's in preview and adobe reader
Hey, we have been having a lot of trouble recently printing pdf's, the quality varies depending on the app we print with.
Preview seems to give the best results where as Adobe Reader seems to make text pixelated as tho there is no anti-aliasing going on.
We would switch to using Preview only in some cases we are finding it dos not display the pdf's correctly e.g. there are random lines draw round text and things like that!
Any help would be great, we are using an OKI C5600 if that is any help.
Select a PDF file in a Finder window and click the More Info button; the pop-up information will let you specify the app it should be opened with, and allow you to click "change all" to use the same app for other files of the same type.

Problems displaying a pdf correctly (both with preview and adobe reader)
Hey guys,
I've been having problems with displaying lecture notes (pdf files) correctly. It doesn't matter if I use preview or adobe reader.
Can anyone please help me out?
thanks a lot in advance,
SimonHi there,
I have a very similar problem: a number of pdf files that I can see perfectly well in Safari/GoogleChrome do NOT show correctly in Preview or ANY iPad app I have (Notability, Adobe, PDF Expertm iAnnotate, Dropbox etc.).
The problem is that punctuation -- with the expection of periods or bolded text -- does not show properly. For example, commas and quotation marks to not show, and some numbers to not show.
Moreover, once I have annotated/viewed the problematic file on the IPad and resync to dropbox to view on Mac vis Adobe (which I do with most pdf files with no problems), I get an error message upon reopening the pdf file saying "Cannot extract the embedded font 'FAFWQV+--unknown-2--'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." (the 'quoted' text changes each time). When opening in Preview, no error message appears, though the fole is still lacking punctuation etc.
Here is a link to one problematic pdf: http://niis.cass.cn/upload/2012/12/d20121201200145301.pdf
NB: the file is in Mandarin, however I can successfully open/edit/annotate/sync other pdfs using Mandarin font so I'm not sure if the language is related to the problem.
I would be extremely grateful for some help with this please!
Thanks! -
I have the monthly calendar on screen, click the more button, click print. Another window pops up and when I click the print button nothing happens. I am using Firefox 19.0 and Adobe Reader 10.1.6. The print function works in IE and Chrome.
this solution did NOT work for me. I still cannot print a Google calendar page in Firefox. I can in IE. And I can print Gmail.

Printing PDF brochure from Preview and only graphics print, no text
Spent 30 minutes on the phone with Lexmark. They said with Windows, you would select "Print as Image" under the advanced printing dialogue. I don't see anything like this in MacOS. If I save the PDF as a PNG, then open the PNG in Preview, it prints fine.
I also had this "no text"-problem with a Lexmark C530dn when printing some PDFs from Preview on 10.5.2. The problematic PDFs all were datasheets and papers I downloaded from sources like SAP. I installed the newest version (2.0) of the C530 printer driver, but it did not help.
Using "Generic Postscript Printer" works, but I loose duplex printing, for example. But printing the documents from Adobe Reader 8.1.2 works, too, and I can use the Lexmark driver and have duplex printing etc. -
My .pdf files and also Word documents are opening in Preview, which isn't usually a problem, but I have a .pdf file of sheet music that does not come out at all right in Preview. It looked fine when opened on my mother's PC.
Also when the Word .doc is a chart (spread sheet?), Preview makes a big mess of it. At least in this case I can drag the Word .doc to an Appleworks page and then Appleworks will open it properly
How can I change my preferences so that these files will open adobe reader and appleworks when I click them?L Huffman,
First of all, Welcome to the Discussions!
Try to select one of files in question by clicking once and then press the key combo command + i or go to the File menu and select Get Info.
Once the Get Info pane is open drop down (if not already in the open position) the disclosure triangle next to "Open with:" and change the application that will open "this" file. To change all files of the type make sure to click on the "Change All" button.
That should do it....post back if that is not what you are trying to do.

Can't print pdf files after upgrading to Adobe Reader XI
Hi,
I can't print pdf files after recently upgrading to Adobe Reader XI.
Two error messages appear:
1.- Error when starting the application because it couldn't find LXBBGF.DLL. Re-installing the application can solve the problem.
2.- Can not load "LXBBPRP.DLL". Using defaults. Error: 126
I can print other files (word, etc) with the same printer.
Thank you for your adviceHi Pat,
Finally I followed the instructions from another similar discussion on this web site. Unfortunately I can't find it anymore...
I first uninstalled the Adobe Reader XI and then intalled an older version (Adobe Reader X). Now I can print pdf files!!
Thank you anyway for your advice! -
PDF Versions of Documents and Adobe Reader Versions
hello
ist there a overview table, which shows the details and compatibility of PDF File Versions and Adope Reader
of is it easy to say
PDF1.3 need Adobe Reader 4.0 and higher
PDF1.4 5.0
PDF1.5 6.0
PDF1.6 7.0
PDF1.7 8.0
thanks for the answer where i could find an overview table
if there is a backward compatibility
reading PDF1.7 with Adobe Reader 5.0
maybe additional table which function are compatible
and which are not supported or create errors by using old Reader with new Documents.
hope you have some answers, thanks
and best regards
LaibleHello Adobe Team
thanks for the fast answer regarding my question in your forum
You cannot reliably read newer versions of pdf with older versions. We
cannot provide a table, because it depends upon the features used by the
file. For example you can usually take a pdf raster image that is saved in
an newer format, with an older version. You'll get an error message, but it
usually will open. However, if you use a pdf that uses newer security
features, it will NEVER open.
have a nice weekend
best regards from switzerland

Output is reduced in size when printing PDF documents with Preview
When I print a PDF file with Preview the printed output seems to be about 20% smaller than actual. If I print the same file with Adobe Reader for Mac the output is normal and not reduced. Other file types do not seem to have the same issue. I don't recall having this problem before I upgraded to Leopard. Any ideas?
Thanks
JackHi Jack,
If you have a rummage through Preview's Preferences and look at the scale settings in the 'PDF' tab, do you have it set to respect the 100% scale factor of the PDF? This can sometimes affect the scaling when the PDF was formated for a different paper size from the one you're trying to print it on. If everything there seems to be ok, try comparing the two different expanded print diaogs which you receive in Preview and Adobe Reader, looking at things like scaling and paper-size again.

Preview and Adobe fonts problem/missing in PDF
I have a PDF document that doesn't show some fonts. The PDF was displaying fine on preview and then all of the sudden the next day it got messed up. I didn't performed any update or installed any new app. The problem persists in both Preview app and Adobe Reader; at least Adobe tells me: "Cannot find or create the font 'BYGBIR+Helvetica-12-0'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." Here's a screen shot of what it looks like.

I am running OS X 10.7.5 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02. In the last few days I have been unable to open PDF's downloaded from the web. Reader gives the error message 'There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired'. Removing Reader and trying to use Preview to open these files give the error 'Preview cannot open this file. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise' (or something like that). Downloading the same files with Reader removed from my Mac Preview opens the files OK.
I was recently prompted to update Adobe software but did not note exactly what the update was nor when it was done.
Reader and Preview will both open PDFs I downloaded a week ago. Reader will also open files downloaded on another Mac running OS X 10.0.0 and copied to my Mac. Any ideas?Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
Cannot print PDFs in any application except Adobe
I upgraded to OS 10.5 recently (and now 10.5.1 on my laptop), and I am no longer able to print PDF files from Preview, nor am I able to produce PDF files from the printer dialog in any program. Printing PDFs in Adobe Reader works fine. Whatever other program I try to do this in crashes--TeXShop and Preview crash when I try to print a PDF document, while any program crashes when I try to produce a PDF file through the print dialog. The two computers I use are a Macbook Pro 2.0 duo core and a brand-new new iMac. The printer I use is a Brother 2030. I am able to print non-PDF documents such as .rtf files in programs such as Nisus Writer and TextEdit.
I have to print and deposit my PhD thesis very soon; help will be most appreciated. I could print it from Adobe, but the print quality is much poorer for some reason.Do you have the old printer queue in use? This made problems in my case. Remove the queue and the printer in prefpane. Add the printer again and try out. Perhaps in your case it is a differnt problem, but you have nothing to loose.

I am unable to print a pdf from a website through Adobe Reader on my mac. It keeps telling me that no pages have been selected - I have uploaded the latest version of Adobe with no luck and have never had this issue before !
Hi bengaunt ,
Thank you for posting on the Adobe forums, you can try printing as an image.
Open the file>Print>advanced>check the box "print as an image" OK
Thanks,

Why can't I open PDFs anymore and Adobe Reader won't install.
Why can't I open PDFs anymore and Adobe Reader won't install? This happens only in Safari. I have tried changing my security preferences but it doesn't help.
missyzz,
which version of OS X is installed on your Mac, and which version of Adobe Reader do you have installed? Did you ensure that all of your browsers were not running when you’d installed Adobe Reader?
To use Preview to open PDFs, download the PDFs to your Mac, and then use Preview to open the PDFs locally. Since you can open PDFs in Firefox, it sounds like you don’t need the Preview workaround. -
