Inconsistent color values across CS3 apps

I am using CS3 on a 2.66 quad core Intel Mac running 10.5.8.
I am working with an InDesign file with many links. When I click the edit link button on the links palette in InDesign my image opens in Photoshop just as expected. I use the info panel in Photoshop to take a color reading and decide I need to edit. Any adjustment items (Levels/Curves) that I open cause the readout in the info palette to jump, both the before and After readings. I have a c:1, M:1, y:1 turn into a c:10, m:8, y:8.
If I open the file directly from the server or from my local desktop into Photoshop, This problem does not exist. The values stay the same until I actual make an adjustment.
I have restarted. Same problem. I have deleted all preferences for Photoshop, InDesign, & Bridge. Same Problem.
My admin logged in under their name and this problem disappeared.
Does anyone know what setting or preference I need to change/eliminate to stop this problem?
My biggest concern is that my final files will have some issues on press as a result of this.
Thanks

Urrrrrg.
Problem solved.
1. Go to the correct folder to get the image.
2. destroy attached profile.
3. rejoice over minor victory.

  • Inconsistent tonal values across different Photoshop functions

    Example:
    The input tonal value is 70% of a CMYK primitive color, e.g. cyan, using Photoshop's color picker.
    For measuring the tonal values and differences, switch the info palette to CMYK and 32-bit mode. It's also possible to see the differences in HSB and Lab mode (depends on selected CYMK color profile).
    Measured values of filled layers using different Photoshop functions:
    Adobe Photoshop CS2
    Fill : 69,8%
    Paintbucket : 69,8%
    Fill layer : 70,2%
    Vector object : 70,2%
    Vector file[1]: 69,8%
    Adobe Photoshop CS3
    Fill : 70,2%
    Paintbucket : 69,8%
    Fill layer : 70,2%
    Vector object : 70,2%
    Vector file[1]: 69,8%
    [1] vector file is a PDF/X-1a file, filled with 70% cyan and exported from InDesign CS3 using equal color management settings
    The results are independent of:
    Processor (Intel Pentium M, Intel Core 2 Duo M, Virtual Machine)
    Windows version (XP/Vista, x32/x64)
    Photoshop version (CS2/CS3)
    Color management settings (CMYK profile, blackpoint compensation, dither, rendering intent, CMM)
    Normally, it should be always the same result for the same input value.
    Someone has an explanation for these different results?

    Frank,
    starting with 70% in byte mode:
    x = 70*2.55 = 178.5
    Theoretically this should be rounded always to 179.
    Practically it's also correct to round this to 178.
    Value for 70.2%:
    x = 70.2*2.55 = 179.01 --> 179
    Value for 69.8%:
    x = 69.8*2.55 = 177.99 --> 178
    The example suffers from being accurately at the
    rounding threshold. Anything goes.
    In a uniform area the Cyan value is either 179 or
    178 (it isn't coded by percentage). Doesn't matter.
    The appearance will be the same.
    In a real image we don't have uniform areas just
    at the rounding threshold. There is enough variation
    to distribute rounding errors randomly.

  • CS applications printing inconsistent color

    My problem is that the same file prints differently in Photoshop, Illustrator, InD and Acrobat. I've synchronized the color settings in Bridge. Nevertheless they produce different color when I print. Illustrator & InD are pale, and Acrobat is too dark. Photoshop alone produces true color.
    I'm currently testing with an Illustrator vector graphic. When I save it as an Illustrator PDF and print from Acrobat, colors are too dark. When I save a PSD copy of the image and then place it in the Illustrator file, next to the vector version, they both print with matching pale colors. When I print the same PSD from Photoshop, colors are bright and accurate. So the color difference is related to the application (and printer), not the file.
    Let me emphasize that all apps use the same synchronized color settings. I've turned the printer's color management off, and color handling is always by the CS app. The "printer profile" menu is set to the correct paper type. Rendering intent, perceptual. Still each program produces different color.
    Any ideas? Thanks for your suggestions.

    PS. This is with a silver iMac, OSX 10.5.3, CS3, and an Epson R1900 with the newest driver.
    PPS. Yes, I have calibrated my monitor, but this isn't a screen/print comparison. Photoshop prints colors true to my monitor and to what the color value actually is.

    In addition to the above, I've also noticed that printing from Illustrator CS3 results in lower resolution line art, as if the screen res image is printing, rather than Illustrator outputting at the resolution of the printer. The same Illustrator file, opened in Photoshop, will print at whatever resolution it is rastered to on import.
    The second problem is that the Epson driver doesn't appear to pay attention to the settings, coating the page with gloss optimizer and using photo black ink even when paper has explicitly been set to plain paper with gloss optimizer turned off.
    On my Epson 4000 and 9880, I've used the Colorburst RIP. Does anyone know of a similar software RIP for the R1900?
    Also Epson Utility appears to not work at all if the R1900 is either on a shared computer, or plugged into the USB Port of an AiPort base station or Time Capsule? Are there plans to add this functionality? It's a drag to not be able to see the ink level remaining from any computer other than the one the printer is connected to, or not from any computer if the printer is connected to the TimeCapsule basestation.

  • CS3 InDesign & Illustrator Install Exit Code 7; Other CS3 Apps Install Fine

    I feel like I'm beating a dead horse... (no offence to horse lovers out there - it's just an expression)
    I'm having trouble performing an silent install of the CS3 suite from a network share on Windows 7.  I've read through a number of posts on here, one of which was a 3 page post on this issue where Mac & Win 7 users alike posted failures, successes and how they got there, and another about removing the OS check feature from the application.proxy.xml file (which didn't work for me; unless I did something wrong...?)  Unfortunately for me after trying much of what was suggested, I'm still facing a brick wall.
    All these machines are Core 2 Duo's clocked at no less than 2.2GHz, have 4GB of RAM, have over 100GB of free disk space and are running fully updated/patched installations of Windows 7 32-bit (x86) with Office 2007 Enterprise.
    When I try to install the suite silently it fails with 'Exit Code: 7', which according to the CS3_Deployment.pdf means "Unable to complete the silent workflow."  If I take out the "--mode=silent" switch, the GUI launches and installs fine.  I took a look at the compressed log file & searched for "Return value 3", "ERROR" and "FATAL" for clues, but its vague and nondescript.  I didn't copy/paste the entire log in this post for brevity's sake, but you can check it out here:

    Unabridged Version: http://pastebin.com/MQDeQZmF
    Instead, however, I do want to touch on just a few things from the log:

    I've got some initial questions that pertain to what's in the log file:
    The areas in bold:  Since the same install also fails on Windows XP machines, what does this mean exactly?
    The areas in italics: Can anyone expand on what that means?
    The underlined areas: What 'Policy' is this referring to: Setup's own internal policy (like the OS check) or something else?
    Here's what I've done so far:
    Went through the 'Run a silent installation of Adobe Creative Suite 3' document
    Went through the 'Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4' document
    Used the Adobe Support Advisor to go through the logs, but it always says that no problems are found.
    Recreated the install & uninstall XML files, twice, via the "setup.exe --record=1" method for each application & the entire suiteNot that I think this is important, but I was never prompted to enter a serial number when creating the .XML files.
    Renamed the XML files for each application (e.g.: Photoshop-install.xml; CS3Suite-install.xml; Flash-remove.xml etc.)
    Copied the XML files to a common folder on a network share (e.g.: \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs)
    Created install batch files for each application, including the suite, that install via the following command"\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\Setup.exe" --mode=silent --deploymentFile="\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs\Photoship-install.xml"
    Tried the installs with & without the "--skipProcessCheck=1" switch but there's no change.
    No applications are running during the installs.
    Verified my application.xml.override file was in \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\payloads\AdobeDesignSuitePremiumen_US_Volume
    Verified I didn't have any strange characters in my application.xml.override fileI deleted and manually retyped all double quotes just to be sure.
    I noticed that the "installSourcePath" property in the install.xml files created point to a local location rather than, what I would expect to be, the installation source folder where I copied the contents of the DVD to.  On a whim I changed it to point to the copied DVD files but that didn't seem to help either so I changed it back.
    FROM: <Property name="installSourcePath">C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\498b43b77cac072081a5692bfc52804</Property>
    TO: <Property name="installSourcePath">\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3</Property>
    Aside from Acrobat Reader 9.4.0, Adobe Flash Player 10 (ActiveX & Plugin) and maybe Shockwave 11, these machines never previously had any other Adobe products installed.
    For what its worth, uninstalling Acrobat Reader 9.4.0 doesn't seem to help either.  I didn't try removing Flash Player or Shockwave [yet].
    Using the install XML files I created via "setup.exe --record=1", when I run installs for the individual applications silently [via batch files] one at a time, all applications install fine except for Illustrator and InDesign: Exit Code 7.
    This may further help suggest my application.xml.override file is fine.
    Even more interesting is that I get the same error on Windows XP and Windows 7 machines alike.  (See the image below taken from an XP machine; the same happens on Windows 7 machines so it doesn't appear this problem is OS specific.)
    Other than removing Flash Player, Shockwave and ripping out our Anti-Virus solution (Sophos), which is going to be difficult, is there anything I've missed?
    Anyone have suggestions on why Illustrator and InDesign don't install?

    I spoke with Adobe Support today and was directed to this support article:
    CPSID_84332 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84332.html
    Although this article speaks to CS5 installations, even though I thought I made it clear that I was working with CS3, I decided to give it a shot anyway.
    The first comment passively suggests troubleshooting [all] "install errors using Creative Suite 5 install logs", which links you to CPSID_84451 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/844/cpsid_84451.html.  But again, its CS3 I'm having trouble with and I've already linked, what I believe to be, a more appropriate CS3 [and CS4] log troubleshooting document in my first post.
    Step 1 requires restarting "your computer in a minimized state before running the installer." - This isn't at all optional nor ideal when we're talking about silent installations, especially when they can take place in the middle of the day - its highly distruptive, or deployments in general.  Plus, I'm not interested in developing a package that will perform the steps outlined and then undo everything.  Its important to note that this isn't a one-off problem: every machine that needs to have CS3 installed experiences this problem.  But for what its worth:
    I did as instructed in the troubleshooting documentation but it didn't work.
    No other applications fail to install, and all but these lone Adobe CS3 apps install fine; what gives?
    Step 2 is to perform a repair installation of the Windows Installer.  (FYI: Windows 7 ships with 5.0, my version is 5.0.7600.16385, and for the record there doesn't seem to be a redistributable download available at this time.)  I can't use this as part of my silent installation package because it calls you to run `sfc /scannow` which is time consuming and, if something is found, often requires a reboot.  Fortunately for me, "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
    Step 3 is to preinstall Adobe Air and the AdobeHelp payloads:
    AIR isn't part of the CS3 DVD, it has to be downloaded & installed silently (via -silent -eulaAccepted if you don't have the redistributable package); this was done but didn't help.
    There isn't an 'AdobeHelp' payload, only 'AdobeHelpViewerAll', which will not allow a manual instalation so I can't do that.
    In summary, these tips unfortunately did not solve the problem.

  • How can I get scripting access to color values in the indexed Color Table?

    Hey all,
    I'm relatively new to Photoshop scripting, but I've just finished a script that helps my fiance with some very tedious tasks related to textile design.
    The last issue that I'm having is that the image I start with is indexed and has a very specific Color Table pallete ( 2-12 colors max + black and white, so 14 max total, sometimes as few as 2 ). Part of my script, I create a number of color chips and fill them with black currently... What I'd like is to be able to get a count of the colors in the Color Table and put the actual color values as hex into an 1 dimension array, so that I fill those black chips I've made with the actual colors from the Color Table.
    ( I don't know if it makes a difference but I'm converting the image to RGB mode at some point in the script, and back to Indexed Exact ).
    Can anyone please help me do this? Needs to be compatible with CS5 and CS6 ideally.
    Thanks!!

    Cheers for that, your code works but what had thrown me was that the collections appear to be empty - so I hadn't actually tried retrieving one, I just assumed I was looking in the wrong place.
    So if I do this in my Immediate window:
     App.Current.Resources.Count
     0
    Yet when I request it, I get one:
     App.Current.Resources["TitleTextStyle"]
     {Windows.UI.Xaml.Style}
         base {Windows.UI.Xaml.DependencyObject}: {Windows.UI.Xaml.Style}
         BasedOn: {Windows.UI.Xaml.Style}
         IsSealed: false
         Setters: {Windows.UI.Xaml.SetterBaseCollection}
         TargetType: {Name = "TextBlock" FullName = "Windows.UI.Xaml.Controls.TextBlock"}
    Looking at the resources object itself, I get similar apparently empty collections:
     App.Current.Resources
     {Windows.UI.Xaml.ResourceDictionary}
         base {Windows.UI.Xaml.DependencyObject}: {Windows.UI.Xaml.ResourceDictionary}
         Count: 0
         IsReadOnly: false
         Keys: Count = 0
         MergedDictionaries: {Windows.UI.Xaml.DependencyObject}
         Source: null
         ThemeDictionaries: {Windows.UI.Xaml.ResourceDictionary}
         Values: Count = 0

  • How do I input a specific color value for a shape?

    I've been trying to figure out why I cannot input a specific color that I want for a shape. I'm not just choosing a color that looks nice, I'm trying to match it to a solid color in the next clip. Ive tried to use the eye dropper to get the color from the next clip but I cannot copy anything outside of the color pallete provided. I know the value of the color (from 0-255 it's R:191, G:211, B:217) but all FCPX has is 0 - 1, which is some other kind of color value system I've never seen before. Does anyone know how I can put that specific color value into the shape generator?

    Click the color swatch to open the Apple color picker. This is common to all Mac apps.
    Click the second tab for color sliders. Change the popup to RGB.

  • Color values shift from Illustrator to Photoshop

    Hi there:
    Hopefully someone has an answer for me (my apologies if this has been addressed before)?
    When  I open up a EPS file in Illustrator CS5, the blacks read !00% for RGB. When  exported as a JPG, Photoshop CS5 reads it as 0-0-0. So far so good. But  when copy and paste the same EPS into a Photoshop files, as a smart  object, the values change to 4-7-7. I've tried that with other colors,  and it seems the color values shift when using as a smart object. Any  ideas on why and how to remedy this?
    I will also post in the Photoshop forum as well...
    Thanks,
    Lisa

    So I also had someone else reply in the Photoshop forum about this. Apparently, I need to be using the Adobe RGB (1998) color space on both applications in order for the numbers to reflect the correct color values.
    Not sure why it wouldn't do so in other color spaces (I had mine initially set to sRGB on both apps), and I'll need to see if this runs into any issues on our end.
    If you have any more insight, I would love to hear it. But thanks for your help!
    Lisa

  • Please, can I with help of Javascript change spot color values? for example by my color VARNISH with c:0,m:10,y:15,k:0 to make change to c:0,m:0,y:0,k:0? thank you

    Please, can I with help of Javascript change specific spot color values? for example, I have color named VARNISH with values c:0,m:10,y:15,k:0 and it would help me to make change to c:0,m:0,y:0,k:0 as a part of an action. Is it possible? Thank you

    Hi Kon Verter,
    you can change the values of your spot swatch, but you have to check many things before.
    e.g. you can do something like this:
    var Vcolor = app.activeDocument.swatches.getByName("Varnish");
    if (Vcolor.color.spot.colorType == ColorModel.SPOT && Vcolor.color.spot.spotKind == SpotColorKind.SPOTCMYK) {
        alert("Black value before: "+Vcolor.color.spot.color.black);
        Vcolor.color.spot.color.black= 0; // and so on
        alert("Black value after: "+Vcolor.color.spot.color.black);
    This will change the black value of the cmyk spot color with name Varnish to 0
    Have fun

  • Consistent RGB Color Values with Photoshop CS4: An Impossibility??

    What I want is very simple: I want the Photoshop files I am working on and the rendered PNGs in my browser to have the same color values. I don't care if my web images look the same color on other screens or anything like that. All I want is for the screenshots of PNGs my web browser to match the color values I have used in Photoshop. I've had it up to here with color shiftsthis did not used to be an issue in CS3.
    Moreover, if I save a file on my Mac, and a color value is, say, #cf4640, I want someone who opens the file on a Windows box to get the same color value for that pixel. Ditto for the images I have saved for the webI want the RGB values to be consistent. This does not seem like too much to ask, does it?
    Right now, I have turned all color management policies set to Off, working spaces are all set to Generics, and documents are set to "Don't Color Manage"my Windows colleagues also have these same settings. This used to work as expected in CS3we all got the same color values on the same files, and colors didn't shift when viewed in a browser.
    Once again, I don't care if the colors *look* the same from platform to platform or screen to screen. I just want consistent RGB values.
    Color management has never caused me anything but headachesleave my colors alone, Photoshop! I really really wish there was a "Work Like Photoshop 4" setting for color management.
    Does anyone have any ideas how I might solve my problems?
    Thanks very much.
    Oh, and, incidentally, I was originally thinking of calling Adobe about this; how foolish of me. I looked into it, and can I just say how fantastic it is that you have to pay extra money for actual first-party tech support on a $700 piece of software?

    The sounds/language analogy isn't really relevant to this problem, because it suggests transforming between two entirely different media. One medium: the medium of sound information, to another entirely different medium: the medium of thoughts and meanings. That's something that simply can't be done without an intermediate translation. That's not the case with color transforms in the RGB space, where it's just a matter of taking RGB values and pushing them through a matrix to produce other RGB values. That's the process that messes everyone up and creates all the confusing color output, and frankly it's an unnecessary process. Your assertion that the values in a source image have no meaning without an associated profile isn't entirely true. What if those source values were simply pushed directly though to the display? After all, a display simply renders 8 bits of R, 8 bits of G, and 8 bits of B for each pixel.
    I think the original poster has some very valid concerns. Sometimes we just want to set some color values, and know that everybody's display, on every platform, will render those color values the same way. As he said, they may not look identical to the eye, but the values going through that DVI cable will be setting that pixel to the same 24-bit value no matter what. That's how things would be if there were no such thing as color management. That's how things used to be long ago, and in many ways the world of color was far more predictable and less confusing back then.
    Here's my vision for a perfect world: color management doesn't exist in the RGB space. None. No such thing. Source RGB values in images get pushed right through to the display. The onus is on the display manufacturers to produce hardware that renders those values as consistently as possible. In the world of print, sure- color management is incredibly useful. But if only we could go back in time and keep color profiles out of our RGB, I believe we'd be much better off today.

  • Read color values for swatches in InDesign CS5, js

    Hi,
    I  need to read color values for  swatches. I got this in OMV and was hoping it would give me an array of the color values for all existing swatches, but I am only getting "Object color":
    mySwatches = myDoc.swatches[1].getElements();
    alert (mySwatches)
    Thank you for your help.
    Yulia

    Hi Yulia,
    Try this:
    var
        mD = app.activeDocument, // document
        mS = mD.swatches, // document swatches
        gS = 4, // swatch index
        mC = [mS[gS].name, mS[gS].colorValue, mS[gS].space]; // swatch properties
    alert(mC.join("\r"));
    Hope that helps.

  • Color Value read out in Library as in Develop

    Some times I need to check color values while culling/organizing in the library module. I don't want to have to switch to Develop just to check a patch of color and then switch back again to library.
    If this is already possible I have missed it.

    Key point: this isn't just an export problem, I'm seeing it in the app itself (difference between Library and Develop).
    The standard-sized preview in Lr Develop module can on occasions be significantly different in appearance to 1:1 previews in develop module and those in the Library module or even exported photos. The underlying cause is that Lr does not have any sharpening or noise correction applied to standard-sized previews in the Develop module and this results in the image appearing a lot more saturated than it really is. One way to reduce the discrepancy is to avoid over sharpening or applying too much color noise correction to your photos. Other than these there isn't a whole lot more that can be done to fix the discrepancy.

  • Setting Color Values Example

    When looking in the help file in Flash CS3, under "Setting
    Color Values", they have an example of changing the color of a car.
    When you click on the paint chip, the car changes to that color,
    leaving the shadowing and everything else present on the car.
    When I run through the tutorial on the screen where it shows
    you how to set it up, it works but it takes the entire image and
    changes it a solid color.
    How do they just get that color to change on the car and
    leave the other pixels the same color they were?
    Thank you.
    Dave

    Any takers? I think that this is one of the "cool" features
    of Flash and I would think a lot of people are utilizing it (I
    hope)...
    Thanks.

  • Can I Copy CS3 Apps from One Mac to Another and Make them Work?

    First off, I KNOW how this sounds at first blush. I am NOT trying to violate the EULA. I have legitimate serials for Creative Suite 3.
    HOWEVER I'm in a position where my new Mac will not allow me to install CS3 from the disks or DMGs made from them. It's a long story, one that has Apple support stumped and me up against writing deadlines for which I need CS3 and CS4 running concurrently.
    I'm replacing one Mac (a Powerbook G4 10.4.11) with another (10.6.2). Migration assistant fails. Install disks fail. DMGs from install disks fail. All works on the G4, not on the 10.6.
    SO, is there a way I can COPY (or move) the installed and functioning CS3 apps from the G4 to the new 10.6 system via Ethernet (or USB)? I mean, other than the application folders and the prefs, what would I have to copy/move? Is it even possible? I don't need to transfer the serial and activation; I can re-enter my serial and re-activate the software once on the new computer; I just need to get it working via copy/move on the new Mac.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Frak. I was afraid of that. That means I need to keep the old Mac up just for screenshots and testing techniques in my articles for the next year to 18 months. I'd better go buy a second desk to keep all these computers handy.
    Thanks, Michael.

    You can tell apple that you'd like it and see if they respond....eventually. (you don't get responses from your feedback mails but they have been known to issue changes that users have asked for, such as the ability to mass delete apps)
