Inconsistent Importing

Hi,
Hi,
I'm using Premiere CS5 and am having problems importing footage.  I had to convert videos that were using the Apple Intermediate Codec to AVI The clips play fine with a video player like Media Player Classic.  I created a project using the DV - NTSC preset.  When I drag the clips I want to use, they only show up as audio files.  But I was able to get one video to work on one project, but the rest just import the audio.  Then I created a new project and got one different videeo clip to work while the rest are all just audio.  Then I went back to the first project that had the one clip working but now it's just acting like an audio file.  So clearly Premiere CS5 can work with these clips, but I can't seem to get all the imported clips working and stay working..
And when I do have a clip working, when i try importing more I get the Error message 'Unsupported format or damaged file"  I know the format is supported because all the videos have the same properties, and i know they're not damaged because I've gotten some to work.
Also, when I do get a video working, sometimes it's both a video and audio clip and sometimes it's just video like others are just audio.  And when I double click the clip that only shows up as a video file, I can hear the audio in the source cilp window
And when i go back to a project that did hav e the video working, the file shows up as offline when it looked and sounded fine before closing the project.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

  • Inconsistent import of EXIF data for RAW images

    As of the last month or so I have started to notice import issues related to EXIF data within Aperture. When I import images from a card into a new album, some of the images import EXIF data and others do not. This behavior is seemingly random and affects a subset of all images. Even images taken on the same card with the same camera seconds apart can have differing behavior. At first I presumed that it was a faulty CF card but I now see this behavior across multiple cards (CF, SDHC). Even more perplexing is that the EXIF data will be associated to some images when I import once, and after reimporting the same images once agin from the same source, some do not have the EXIF data. This inconsistent behavior leads me to believe there may be a bug in the import process.
    Has anyone had a problem like this? Any advice?

    Yes, it is weird.  My experience matches zeroorone's.  No EXIF inf. showed.  I wasn't using a metadata preset that showed _all_ EXIF, but a lot of it, and all the "important ones".  It seems reasonable to assume that none of the EXIF was showing.
    Brand new installation of everything, less than 1 week old, all up-to-date (I am re-installing everything, slowly; porting nothing except some pref and support files, and data files).  Only happened once so far (but on three consecutive imports).

  • Inconsistent Importing of PSD Text layers

    I'm importing a .psd file with a series of text layers into FCP: the first and last few layers import with the proper aspect ratio. But the middle layers are alternately squished or stretched.
    I've tried rasterizing all the text. I've renamed/re-connected the file. Saved it as a layered tiff. nothing works.
    The middle layers are always randomly distorted.
    IDEAS?

    Because of the nature of the project, I'm not able to send the file. Thanks though.
    I did "solve" the problem, just know but I had to delete the sequence and recreate everything. So I didn't really figure out why it did this to begin with. But after re-creating everything I didn't have the problem anymore....
    weird.
    thanks again.

  • Reason for inconsistent importing

    I am hoping someone can offer an explanation for why iMove '08 might import one of five events in a different way than it does four others, when an identical procedure was followed in each case.
    MY GOAL: Transfer five music videos, created in Final Cut Pro and archived on digital tape, to my iPhone.
    MY METHOD: When the Import window of iMovie opened, I selected 'Manual', started the camera, clicked 'Import' at the start of a music video then 'Stop' at the end of that video. iMovie created an event with one clip containing multiple thumbnails all tightly connected. By selecting the first and last thumbnails, I was able to select the entire clip and drop it in the project pane, where it again appeared as a single long clip that played back flawlessly. I repeated this for the four other videos.
    THE PROBLEM: The last music video appeared in the Events pane as multiple unconnected clips in random sequence. I dragged the clips individually into the Project pane, putting them in sequence as I went. When played back, though, the soundtrack skips as the playhead jumps from one clip to the next.
    QUESTION: What information could iMovie be getting off the digital tape, that makes the capture of the fifth video so different? Can anyone suggest a work-around. The problem video was captured from the same digital tape as two of the other videos that worked fine.
    Thanks very much,
    Dave D.

    I don't know for sure so this is a guess that may lead you in the right direction.
    If you create a movie from a timeline in DV stream and write out to tape, it may preserve the metadata of the individual clips that make up the timeline. These may be in a different order than the date they were filmed. When imported into iMovie, they would be in the order they were filmed based on the underlying metadata.
    Now it seems to me that if some if your videos were rendered to a .dv file or to a .mov file as an intermediate step, and then written out to tape later, then the file on tape would have the metadata of the date it was rendered, and might be in long clips.

  • Inconsistant import speed problem with Widows XP

    I have installed iTunes on my Dell with Windows XP.
    Most CD's import at speeds of 13x but some (and there does not appear to be any constant e.g. age, band etc.) start with import speeds of 0.1X.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    You are right it is not consistent, even with the same disk. I cancelled an import, ejected the disk, re-inserted, started importing again at normal speed.
    My normal import speed is 5x-7x with error correction on, up to 9x with error correction off. Never seen higher than 9.2x on this machine using iTunes. Cdex can go faster though, but that is two step process of ripping then adding to library.

  • User password problem in RFC after system copy

    HEllo,
    we have a problem in ECC6.0 after system copy (refresh QUAL system by PRD data).
    BEfore doing this copy, we export RFC data (SM59 tables) of our QUAL system and after the refresh we reimport these RFC in our QUAL system. We don't want RFC comming from productive system.
    After this reimport, RFC configuration is ok but we have a problem with RFCuser password. In the password box we have "inconsistent"...
    Have you an idea to reimport succesfully these informations ?
    Thanks
    lionel

    Hello,
    We performed another refresh yesterday. But unfortunatly it was not working. Password are still inconsistent.
    This are exactly way we perform it:
    Before restoring DB :
    export table via R3trans for tables:
    RFCDES, RFCDOC, RFCATTRIB, RFCCHECK, RFCDESSECU, RFCSYSACL, RFCTRUST, RFCCMC, RFCGO, SXRFC, IBSSI_RFCDEST, PARAMVALUE, RSECACTB where ident LIKE '___/RFC%'
    export users via scc8
    Restore DB, truncate upper rfc tables,  import rfc Tables
    Check SM59 => inconsistent
    Migrate Secstore => still inconsistent
    Import Users via transport generated by scc8
    run scc7 as post actions
    Tuncatate/re-import rfc tables
    Check SM59 => inconsistent
    Migrate Secstore => still inconsistent
    What else could be done ?
    We have a lot of RFC. so re-enter all password is really a hudge task ..
    Thanks a lot for help

  • File importer detected an inconsistency in the file stucture of (file name). Reading and writing this file's metadata (XMP) has been disabled.

    I have duplicated a project to work on another computer. The project opens fine but when I import new footage/audio files I get this message. "File importer detected an inconsistency in the file stucture of (file name). Reading and writing this file's metadata (XMP) has been disabled." Then I can't play my timeline and Premier Pro crashes.  I have to force quit and restart my computer to continue working. What does this error really mean? How do you rectify?
    Our workflow requires that we duplicate projects to make updates because we are frequently revising but need to keep original project unchanged and intact.

    I have a similar issue and message , but occurs when I import AVI clips from OnLocation CS4 to Premier Pro CS4.

    A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • File importer detected an inconsistency in the file structure

    I have been working with a project in Premiere Pro and it has been working fine until I tried exporting the project. When I export in transports to Media Encoder and exports for a while then stops and shows a yellow triangle with ! in center. • Changed DivX codec - now all DivX files give 'file importer detected inconsistency ... '

    Okay, so I've upgraded to DivX 7 - or so I thought (still says 6.8.5), long story short, NONE of my previously input DivX encoded avis work in Premiere anymore (Pro CS4). I get a message "File importer detected an inconsistency in th efile structure of ...avi. Reading and writing of the file's metadata (XMP has been disabled."
    They work in external media players, but anything in Premiere seems broken. I've spent WEEKS on this movie and haven't the slightest clue how to fix it. I feel like vomitting because this is for work and I can't figure this out.
    I'm desperate, PLEASE HELP!

    Thank you for the answers. I did a system restore to before I changed the DivX stuff and it seems to work again.
    But I hate editing these files. I think I will take up the advice to convert and replace. But question - when I replace the files in the 'Project area', will it replace all of the pieces connected to that with the correct timing in the timeline?
    I would think it would, but I just want to check.
    Yes; If you replace the clip in the project panel; it will replace it every palce it was used on the timeline in any sequence.
    If you rwplace the clip ON the timeline, it only replaces that clip.

  • When importing a Quicktime file into iMovie the audio is inconsistently synchronised with the video. Any ideas?

    I record using Quicktime and the built in webcam on my MacBook Pro. When importing the file to iMovie the audio is inconsistent in its syncronisation with the video. Any ideas?

    This is probably caused by the internal webcam on Apple devices being optimized for FaceTime rather than for movie making. In FaceTime, the goal is to transmit the information using a little bandwidth as possible, so the video will be recorded at a variable frame rate. The frame rate will get low if you are still, and will speed up if there is a lot of motion.
    To fix, I would suggest that you use a free app like MPEG Streamclip. Drag the clip into MPEG Streamclip and export it out at a constant framerate.
    If it is an HD movie, I suggest exporting it from MPEG Streamclip using FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video compression. For sound, choose uncompressed 48khz. That should work, but I can't test it right now. If MPEG Streamclip does not work for you, let me know and I can recommend another free tool.

  • Inconsistent behavior importing OIM 9.1.0.2 BP20 to OIA  11gR1 - 11.1.1.5

    We are building our OIM/OIA integration - preferred method. We are Weblogic 10.3.5.0 -- OIA 11gR1 - 11.1.1.5 -- OIM 9.1.0.2 BP20 - Based on experience and documentation, I think perhaps the 11g to 11g integration is the truly preferred method.
    During testing we found that while the OIM resource had > 600 entitlements associated, only two came over to OIA upon policy import. No errors were thrown. Is there a limitation to the number of attributes that can be imported to OIA?
    We will be defining roles in OIA and importing them to OIM, and are concerned about how OIA will respond to attributes defined in the OIA app prior to OIM forms having knowledge of them - can we define attributes if they have not yet been defined on a form in OIM?
    What behavior should we be expecting?

  • Inconsistent filenames are not recognized in import - Bug?

    Background:
    I run a unix script that adds an "X" before the filename of any image that is locked. I do this before import so that I can filter images after import based on what I tagged in-camera.
    Problem:
    In the import dialog, when I choose Devices as a source, the X'ed images dont appear in the viewer. I can, on the other hand, go to Files and choose the memory card, and it will show the X'ed iimage.
    This isnt that big of a deal, just two extra clicks during import. But  is there a reason for this, or this an unintented behaviour. I've changed the script to add different characters instead of the "X" but to no avail.

    What type of Import are you doing:  Copy, Copy as DNG, Move, Add?
    What are your source and destination folders for the import?
    You could get a -2 on the end of all your files if you are accidentally doing a COPY import when you meant to do an ADD import and the source and destination are the same folder.

  • Inconsistant alpha channel import on .mov files

    I am creating a movie using animation I create in Maya which is then composed in Shake with some alpha masks and exported using the animation codec to a .mov file into Motion. In reviewing my workflow (I'm about midway through things) I recognized I had an error in my screen sizes from one tool to the next and while it was not too noticeable, I thought it best to correct. This is where I should have left dead dogs lie.....
    Anyway, this is best described with the flow I show below:
    Motion Project Setup on ALL file types
    720x480, 8bit, NTSC D1/DV
    Lower First (Even)
    29.97 Fps
    Background Color - Black
    Background - Transparent
    Case 1:
    Maya__->_Shake___->Anim Codec_________>Motion 720x480
    720x486->720x486-->_Mil+_Col-->foo.mov-->File squished 6 pixels in Y
    but alpha is present
    Case 2:
    720x480->720x480-->_Mil+_Col-->foo2.mov->File is 8 pixels narrow in X
    alpha channel is not preset
    I open foo.mov and foo2.mov in shake and look at the files and the
    size is as follows:
    foo.mov - 720x486
    foo2.mov - 720x480
    BOTH .mov files have the alpha channel present and the data is correct.
    Just for grins, I output a file sequence of .tif files from shake of the
    foo2.mov files and verified that the alpha channel was present in
    photoshop and then did an import into motion with the same results of
    foo2.mov. Size is shrunk by 8 pixels in X and no alpha channel.
    It appears at least that Motion is making decisions based upon the screen
    size and importing or not importing the alpha channel.
    Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

    Well, it is strange. Shake says it is 720 and for that matter so does Motion in the Media tab. Motion says it is 720x480 as does shake but when the clip is overlayed against the black background you can see 4 pixels on each side of the clip. The motion project file says it is 720x480 too.
    UPDATE....
    I just checked the motion file and deleted all of the media clips, but when I went to the media tab there was still one copy of the old 720x486 clip there. Every time and method I tried to delete it, it would crash motion. So, I copied all of the other text data I was using motion to generate, created a new motion project and pasted the text in. When I import the 720x480 file into the new project it lines up perfect. This must be a "feature mode" I must have gotten motion into.
    Anyway, problem solved. Thanks much for your help Andy. I kept looking at this and not seeing the forest for the trees.
    Much appreciated.
