Inconsistent presentation of timestamp revocation information (document is LTV enabled)

Hello, I have encountered a somewhat strange situation regarding the presentation of the timestamp revocation information.
The following has been done:
1) A simple document has been created, and a certifying signature with a timestamp (no revocationd data embedded) was created.
2) On sunday I created an LTV enabled document by means of the Adobe Reader v11.
When I check the revocation data of the embedded timestamp I see that the OCSP has been embedded into the document. This is what I would expect.
3)  The next monday I did the same check: but now the Reader tells me that the OCSP has been obtained real-time / on-line; somehow it did not recognize any more that the OCSP is embedded (it's still there in the document).
This is not what I expected.
To verify my finding I created another LTV enabled document (on monday): the Reader shows that the OCSP of the timestamp is embedded.
4) The next tuesday I checked both LTV documents: the Reader does NOT recognize the embedded OCSP any more; it tells me that it has to use the real-time/on-line/local-cache version of the OCSP.
The description of the findings can be found in:
http://CloudDelivery.eu/7AB04873-1746-448B-B53E-1C1B3F25C6C1/AdobeReader_Strange_Case.pdf
==> Question: is this a 'bug' in Adobe Reader regarding the presentation of embedded revocation info of OCSP's of timestamps or is this 'normal' behavour (if so, where is this stated in the PAdES standard)?

Ernst Jan

  • Only available when document rights are enabled

    Hi,
    Adobe 9.4.6, Ubuntu Natty
When I open a pdf file with PDFXchange reader running in Wine, I can highlight text in the file.
When I open the same file with Adobe I cant even dipslay the highlight toolbar, it says "Only available when document rights are enabled"
    How can I fix this?

If by Adobe you mean Adobe Reader, then that would be normal for Reader 9, if you're talking about the Hightlight Text annotation tool. Reader 10 allows you to add text highlights and sticky note annotations without the document having the corresponding usage rights, assuming it doesn't have any security restrictions that would prevent it. Other PDF viewers are free to behave however they want.

  • How should we determine whether a business document is edi enabled

    Hi,
One of my requirement is to find whether a business document is edi enabled or not.Example : Sales Order,ASN,PO,Planning Schedule,Warehouse Shipping Order,Warehouse Shipping Advice. The requirement is we should be able to send these documents to/from SAP system.
Custom development is not preferred.Could any one help me in saying how should I research whether a these documents are EDI enabled or not.
    Regards ,
    Nagaraju Donikena.

    Nagaraju,
If you are talking about IDOCs for the documents that you have specified, then they are NOT EDI enabled. EDI is nothing but a specific format.
    You might need a middleware.

    Ravi

  • Adobe reader: Edit - Preferences, Categories: Documents, Open Settings - Restore last view settings when reopening documents  :: should be enabled by default

Adobe reader: Edit -> Preferences, Categories: Documents, Open Settings -> Restore last view settings when reopening documents  :: should be enabled by default as most users are not aware of this feature and have to write down their page number some where in text file or sticky notes

  • TCD Timestamps wrong information on Agent Leg

    Hello All,
I have a very wiered problem, the timestamp on the call that the agent receieved is earlier by almost 6 hours, the two call legs of the call (between GW and CVP) are correct, even the timestamp on the CAD is correct except for the TCD, Attached is screenshot, did anybody came across something like this.
    UCCE verison 9.0(4)

Yes. My apologies for forgetting to mention, it
is just example code that others may find useful.
I like to have 'copies' of any handy little utils,
'stewn about the place' as well, in case I need
them while away from my PC.
..Or to link to them for the benefit of others.
"check the content type with the code shown here.."
This is one way to get a (pretty!) version of it.. ;-)

  • Every time I try to access any website, I keep getting this message: Revocation information for the security certificate for this site is not available. Do you want to proceed? How do I fix this?

This is driving me nuts !! I keep getting that message every time I try to access a website. It asks me to download the certificate, which I do, but the message still pops up. Any suggestions?

no, I will be using wi-fi to connect. This usually happens whenever I try to back up

  • Links (urls) inside a pdf document are not enabled by the New firefox pdf preview feature but are in Chrome & IE

The new pdf preview feature in firefox desktop does NOT seem to activate any links (urls) inside the pdf meaning they are no longer clickable.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem.
I send out product information using pdf's with clickable links inside (as do lots of businesses) and this loss of clickable links functionality is a problem.
I also tried the same pdf files in IE and Chrome and their inline pdf previews keep all links fully working.
I know the pdf preview in firefox can be deactivated and the adobe reader can be used instead but in reality lots of people won't know how to do this or won't be troubled to find out how and will just move on.
Does anyone know if this feature is going to be fixed or supported or is it a deliberate security feature.
    Thanks.
    JP.

    Hey JPEdwards,
The PDF.js team is still hard at work on the built-in viewer. It looks like there is already a bug on file for this and they are aware of it:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=821599
Please don't post in the bug if you are just confirming that you've seen the problem too. That clutters the tickets ;)

In my workflow I have attachment as PDF document to be signed. URI of that document is from Odrive. Foe example O:\sjrwmd\DMSFAContainer\DMSFALibrary\36397\P041282\978599\Invoice_with_2_blank_sig_OD_2.pdf
When task has been assign to any user, from task detail page of the worklist application user click / open that pdf file and sign the document. When user save this document Odrive should save that to Contentdb.
Just wanted to know that why it is not ODrive bug?
I was able to do following test It works only in Acrobat 6.0.
    Steps I did,
    1) Upload pdf file to folder with manual versioning enable.
    2) Manually checked out file from web ui.
    3) Login to ODrive using same user
    4) Created html file with link (Please replace href portion to your url of the file)
    <HTML>
    <BODY>
    Testing Link <BR>
    <a class="blue" href="O:/sjrwmd/DMSFAContainer/DMSFALibrary/36397/P041282/978599/Invoice_102_wit
    h_blank_sig_OD.pdf" target="_blank">Invoice_101CD.pdf</a> <BR>
    <a class="blue" href="O:/sjrwmd/DMSFAContainer/DMSFALibrary/16966/P040577/246361/ST_Memo.doc"
    target="_blank">ST_Memo.doc</a>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    5) Open html in browser
    6) Click on document link
    7) Will open pdf files in browser
    8) Sign the document
    9) Click on save a copy button.
    10) In the save a copy dialog , file name place paste your file url of o drive for example in my
    case
    O:/sjrwmd/DMSFAContainer/DMSFALibrary/36397/P041282/978599/Invoice_102_with_blank_sig_OD.pdf
    click save
    11) This should save updated file
    12) Checked in document
I will look into programmatically way to achive this.

    Hi,
Check this path : Financial Accounting (New) -- General Ledger Accounting New -- Business Transactions -- Document Splitting -- Activate Document Splitting
Hear you need to check whether Document Splitting is activated or not ... if it is activated select "Deactivate per compnay code" check if your company code is activated or not.
This is a special feature in New GL ... this feature can be activated only in New GL system (From ECC 5 onwords)

  • New "Loading Database Data into Endeca Information Discovery Applications" product enablement video available on YouTube!

    Hi All,
The Endeca Information Discovery Information Curriculum Development team just added a new video, "Loading Database Data into Endeca Information Discovery Applications", to the Video  Feature Overviews section of the Oracle Endeca Information Discovery YouTube channel.
The URL for the video is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix6bGULuY1I&list=PLQl6jp6EE5H2K4JDic6bIPA7yZgbi1KAQ .
Here’s a description of the video tutorial:
The goal of this video tutorial is to enable you to configure Studio to use data from a JDBC data source and to create your own application in Studio.
The target audience is Studio administrators who have to configure a JDBC data source in Studio’s Data Source Library.  As a secondary audience, business users will learn how to load data from a JDBC data source and create a discovery application in Studio.
As always, if you have any ideas for additional videos, please let us know.
    Thanks!

  • Delete Other's Document - When Accounts Enabled

The subject is pretty self explanatory. I wanted to clarify few things. When I enable accounts in UCM and map it to LDAP (with read/write/delete/admin permissions) what is the real purpose of "delete and admin rights"? From my point of view I thought if we add a delete permission to a user then he's able to delete his own documents. But seems like even if I just give them RW access they are still able to delete they own documents. And when I give user rwda permission on an account, I assumed user can delete his own documents along with deleting other's documents?
Apparently this isn't the right assumption. If not, how do I go about giving a user FULL admin access to an Account (say Acct1) where he/she can delete his own and delete anyone elses document having a metadata field of "Acct1". Thanks in advance.

Okay. I understand the Admin access that user gets. But how can they delete other's document? Another thing is okay it's VERY weird, but users are able to delete their own documents. I haven't given user's permission to delete documents at all. They only have RW access on the security group and ONLY RW access for the account as well. And the configuration file SPECIFICALLY says AuthorDelete=false. But, the user is still able to delete his own documents. Our users are not technical at all (as are most of the users). Once they checkin a document using WebDAV we don't want them going in there trying to delete their document. Because they think deleting the document and replacing a document with the same name will create another revision, but when they replace the deleted document, with the same name document, UCM just creates and checks-in another NEW document rather then making a revision of the already deleted document. Hence, we don't want users to delete any documents at all (even there own). And then I want to give SOME (technical) user's ability to delete their own and other's document if need be. Any idea? Anyone? Thanks again for responses.

  • A Security Weakness When Signing without a Timestamp

    Hi Guys,
I am exploring the need of timestamping PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat wrt security. I see a lot of signatures made without timestamps and I see an issue here mentioned below. If my assumption is valid then Ideally Adobe Acrobat should strongly mandate to use timestamps with revocation information.
    The scenario:
A user uses a high trust credential to legitimately sign PDF documents but chooses not to use a Timestamp to avoid costs.  These documents have an embedded signature plus the signer’s certificate chain CRLs and/or OCSP responses (but no trusted timestamp).
At a point in time (let’s say 1 June 2012) the credential and PIN is stolen.   If the theft is before the end of validity period the credential is of course revoked. However if the theft is of an expired credential it can’t be revoked and most people would not notice and perhaps would not even care.  Let us further assume the thief gains access to a number of old signed documents.  Of course in theory this is not a problem, because these documents are signed and therefore protected and can’t be changed. However the thief now has access to a range of valid CRLs and/or OCSP responses that were properly valid from before the theft and can use them to their advantage.  These documents may even be widely published or perhaps received anyway by an insider thief.
The thief can use the stolen credential and can sign a document at any date/time of their choosing up to 1 June 2012 (by varying their local system date/time) to one that lies within the validity period of any previous OCSP/ CRL data they have captured. Even though the signature covers the validation data this is all done at what seems like a legitimate time.
    Trust Threat Analysis:
A stolen credential and PIN can easily be used at a local desktop time (set to anything you like).  With PDF editing software – no problem for a hacker of course – you can embed a CRL that shows the stolen credential as good during any period up to the revocation or expiry.  The hacker just needs to select a signing date/time that is within a CRL validity period for one of the CRLs they have access to.  The selected CRL is then re-used as part of the signing process on a fraudulent document.
It is now up to the receiving software to make the right trust decision – and a trusted timestamp should always be used to make a trustworthy historic decision.  If there is no embedded trusted timestamp the receiver software could decide to verify the signature at (a) the current time or (b) the (untrusted) time indicated by the signer.  Any software that uses option (b) and trusts the (untrusted) time in the signature rather than defaulting to current time creates a substantial trust issue.  The whole purpose of using and attaching a valid, trusted signature time stamp is to independently confirm the accurate date/time of (potentially untrusted) third party signing events.  The timestamp cannot be re-used since it covers the signature details.  Any substantial variance in time between the signer’s time and the timestamp time is peculiar but systems should always default to trusting the signature timestamp date/time.
Ideally PDF signing software used by a signer that fails to obtain a timestamp should not allow the document to be signed.  If the policy is to sign with a long-term signature then the timestamp must be present to confirm the time.  Some software products create confusion by allowing the timestamp to be missed if it cannot be obtained.  This means that a document that should have a life of several months or years should actually be seen to have an issue immediately after certificate revocation or expiry (could be in a few days or months).  Using such software, users will not be aware of the issue until the problem has manifested itself.
    Any Comments?

    Wahaj

The settings for the warning messages have been removed from the user interface (Bug 513166).
You need to change the related security.warn_* prefs directly on the <b>about:config</b> page.<br />
    Filter: security.warn
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.
