Inconsistent printing from 1 networked computer

Recently purchased and set up officejet 5742. Works fineprinting via wireless connection with 1 wirelessly networked computer but not with the other (both computers using same microsoft office student package).
Will not print from Microsoft office applications (Word, excel, powerpoint etc) When it does not print, there is no error message on either the printer or the laptop.
When it does not print, the printer activates when a file is sent to print, but then just sits there  with 'loading' on the printer screen and the spinning circle. The device manager on the lap top says 'printing' but just stays there, after around 3 minutes the printer chimes and then goes back to its standard home screen and seemingly deletes the file from the printer queue as it no longer shows on the device manager.
I have attempted to uninstall/reinstall software, printing via a wired connection and have followed the scan and print doctor re: deleting print spool file contents.
Printing from web, google docs etc fine.

Hey there @SLweip , Welcome to the forums,
I understand you cannot print from Microsoft Office programs from one computer only however, you can print successfully from all other programs. As the printer prints from other programs, and functions fine with your other PC, the hardware is fine and there is no issue with the printer itself. The problem is software related and I suspect there could be an issue with Microsoft Office on the one computer only.
I saw that you have already tried a full uninstall and reinstall of the printer driver and software, which should have resolved any printer related software issues. You can also try running the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results and if that happens, let me know what the problem was. If the tool determines that the printer checks out okay, you can try posting this issue in the Microsoft Forums (below), or even uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Office on the one PC.

  • Can't print from a network computer to my HP Deskjet D2680 on a Windows 7 computer

I have an HP Photosmart 2610 all-in-one printer connected to my HP desktop computer via a USB cable.  The computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit).  I downloaded the current software and drivers from Hp (364 MB).  I can print to this printer from any other computer on my home network.   So far, so good.
Now the problem.  I also have an HP Deskjet D2680 printer connected to the same HP desktop computer above via a USB cable.   I downloaded the current software and drivers from Hp (101 MB i think).   I can print to the D2680 from the HP computer, but I cannot print to the computer from any computer on the network.  The print request does not generate an error.  Nothing happens.  No print job shows up in the print queue on the HP desktop computer.
When I add the D2680 as a network printer on any of my other computers, the D2680 printer is seen.  The Add Printer function knows that the printer it is a D2680 printer and sets up the correct printer driver.  Everything appears fine, but I just can't print to it from any network computer.
I then tried to add the D2680 as a local port... no luck.  I identify it as \\ computer-name \ share-name, where computer-name is the name of the HP computer, and share-name is the name assigned to the D2680 when I shared the printer.  On the HP computer, user passwords are turned off and all sharing options are turned on.  I also modified the D2680 security to allow full access from NETWORK.   When I ty to create the local port... Access Denied.
Does the D2680 support network printing?  If not, why? If not, someone from HP should be demoted to the mail room for that decision.  If so, it is not working.  So what do I do?  Take a sledge hammer to it, then go buy another printer?
So much for plug and play.   It's more like plug and cry.
Thanks in advance for your suppprt.
    David

I found a thread about the HP Print & Scan Doctor software tool. I downloaded and ran it.  It detected a conflict with the D2680 driver / software, so I uninstalled the driver / software.  I then reran the software install, and now everything works fine.

  • Can't Print from a networked computer

Installed Officejet 6500A Plus as a wireless device. The Dell PC (Windows 7 64 bit), hard-wired to the router, prints fine. The ASUS netbook (XP Home), which is part of my network will not print and does not recognize (or see)  the printer. Tried re-installing this Officejet (a) hard-wired to the PC and then (b) hard-wrired to the router. Same result.
This Officejet replaced an HP Officejet 6110 all-in-one which was hard wired to the PC and everything worked fine back then. What am I missing?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I do not know what you are doing wrong; I can offer the following in hopes that it might help.
The problem is likely not directly related to your printer -- Print Preview is application driven as is the environment that helps select the printer setup.  In general, your environment must be set up first -- that is, the printer has to be installed, selected as default, on the network, and ready to go -- and then the applications can use it.
First, if you have not already done so, please install the printer's Full Feature Software:
Install Full Feature Software – OfficeJet 6700
Make sure your 6700 printer is assigned as the Default printer -- assuming this is the only printer on your network, this should happen automatically.  However, if you tend to roam about from one location to another, this may not be the case -- you may want to check to make sure the printer that you expect to see is indeed the "default" printer.  In this case, you want that printer to be the HP Officejet 6700.
Control Panel > set icon view > Devices and Printers >
Right-Click on your printer >  assure / select as Default printer

  • Trying to print from a Vista computer to a printer connected to an XP computer

I am trying to print from a Windows Vista computer to a shared Laserjet p2035n printer connected via USB cable to a Windows XP computer.  When I try to print a test page 2 files are sent to the spool/printers folder on the XP computer but nothing prints.  The printer prints fine when printing directly from the XP computer.  When I found the printer on the network and told it to connect it installed automatically.  I thought maybe the wrong drivers were somehow installed so I downloaded and ran the Vista drivers file for this printer from the HP site but it didn't change anything.
I have cleared the spool folder and reinstalled the printer but still no joy.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Here is some additional information... The printer does print from other networked XP computers, just not from the networked Vista computer. This makes it seem like it must be a driver issue. Is there some way to totally remove the HP drivers for this printer from the Vista computer so that I can do a fresh install?  When I uninstall the printer from the Vista computer it obviously doesn't remove the drivers because when i reinstall the printer it goes in automatically without giving me a chance to specify where the drivers are.
Are there any known issues regarding printing from a networked Vista machine to a printer connected to an XP box?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone out there has!

  • How do I print from win 7 computer thru network to HP Deskjet 9650 connected to XP computer?

I have a home network with a Windows 7 Professinal OS as my main PC and a Windows XP OS with an HP Deskjet 9650 attached. I want to print from the Win 7 machine to the Deskjet 9650 on the XP machine. The 9650 is installed on the XP machine and works fine. The work around driver for Win 7 should be included in the OS. I cant print from the Win 7 machine.

    Hi EngineerCarter,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that you are trying to share a Deskjet 9650 printer through a computer running XP to your Windows 7 computer.
I have included a link to Microsoft Support on how to share a printer connected through a Windows XP computer.

  • Compatibility of using Photosmart 7510 printer with a Photosmart 7525 printer from the same computer

Before installing, registering, and setting up my new HP Photosmart 7525 I need to know whether I can keep using my 2 year old HP Photosmart 7510 and its software on my computer and whether this would cause a conflict.  My 2 year old Photosmart 7510 works fine and I want to  use the Photosmart 7510 and the Photosmart 7525 both from the same computer and network without conflict.  And if a conflict would be probable, is it necessary to remove the Photosmart 7510 software before installing the software/drivers for the Photosmart 7525?

    Hi,
You can install more than 1 printer to your computer. They will share few folders including HP Photo Creations product but they should live harmony together.
    Regards.

  • Getting HP Officejet 5600 All-in-One to print from wireless network?

I have the printer, via  USB cable, hooked up to my desktop. I have both my desktop and my wife's notebook hooked up to our wireless network via Cisco Linksys WUSB600N USB adapters. Using Cisco Linksys WRT610N router. The Best Buy sales person said as long as I had the printer hooked up to my desktop and my desktop was on or in sleep mode that we could print from my wife's notebook. I have added the printer driver to the notebook. Now I cannot even get a test sheet to print using my wife's notebook. The printer still prints from my desktop. Do I have to hook the printer up to the router via USB cable to get this to work or what?  This wireless thing is still a bit new to me. Any help, suggestions and/or answers will be greatly appreciated. I eagerly await your helpful replies. Thanks!

I know I'm likely bumping an old topic...but hopefully this will help someone else.
    This *is* possible.
The best way is to enable sharing on the primary (desktop computer that sleeps.) computer after installing it properly on the desktop. Find out the IP address that your modem has assigned to this computer, save it!
Then, on the laptop, go into the "run" menu and type in the IP address of your desktop, starting with "\\."
(So, if your IP is, 123.456.7.890. You would type into the run box of your laptop, "\\123.456.7.890" without the quotes.)
At this point, you may be prompted for a username and password on your laptop. Simply put in any username and password that you have on the desktop when you first start the desktop up. (If a menu requesting username and password does not appear, simply move on.) I would advise you to check the box labeled "Save this information."
At this point a new window should appear, it will show all network resources available to you on the desktop. If you've shared the files properly on the desktop, the printer should be showing in this menu. Simply double-click on the printer that you wish to use, and voila! Your laptop should install all of the required drivers and be connected. Be forewarned, your printer must connect directly through to the desktop computer. DO NOT have the printer connect through a USB hub before it reaches the desktop, this may cause communication issues later on.
There's really a bunch of guides out there on this type thing, but you do have to search for them. I hope that I managed to help you and anyone else out there that's wondering the same but can't drop money on a printer that's brand new.
(Lastly...if it doesn't want to print. Restart both the desktop and printer. Most of the time that fixes it.)

  • 7525 Wirelessly connected, loses internet connection, will not print from wireless network

Have a 7525 Photosmart printer (approx 7 months in service) that has been working great until now.  I had to change the dsl/wireless router over the weekend and now I can't print wirlessly from the network.  According to the printer diagnostics, the printer is connected to the network but each time I try to print, the computer being used can't find the printer.  Checking the Wireless Network Test Results page, all is fine except there is no internet connection.  Restoring the internet connection requires a 're-boot' of the printer, i.e., switching it off and unplugging, after which network printing is restored.  However, that only lasts for a very short time, less than 1 minute, then no more network printing.
I think there is something fishy with the IP address.  HP Print and Scan Doctor can't find the printer using this address. Typing the IP address into the browser gets an error message that the page cannot be found.  That address should lead you to the printer page, but it does not.  Changing the router resulted in an IP address change for the printer, but I wasn't even able to manually set the IP address via HP troubleshooting as it required the ability to get to the printer page from the IP address.
I am rambling on, but I have reached my knowledge limit and hope that someone can give me some other suggestions on what to try next.    Thanks

Hi Seenders and welcome to the HP Forum,
I understand that you are having connection issues with the printer on the network. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue. In this document for Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection are different solutions that may resolve your connections issues. Once you have the printer up on the network make sure you update the IP Address on your computer.
I hope this information is useful. Let me know how it works out.

  • Sending a book for printing from a different computer

    Hi everybody,
I'm an Aperture registered user and I live in Italy. At home, I actually have a quite slow internet connection. On the other hand, my office one is very fast but our lan does not accept a mac so I can't connect my macbook pro. Is it possible to "send" the book from a different computer? I mean, once Aperture have created the pdf-x, is it possible to carry the file from my macbook pro to my office pc and send it to Apple for printing?
    Thank you!
    Paolo

Boot into Safemode and Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If it is good order while in safe mode

  • Trying to install new printer on another networked computer downstairs. Cannot locate on network .

I have a computer dopwnstairs on wireless. Wireless Net gear home buisness. I am installing a new printer and it is a wired ethernet cable to main computerwhihc acts as the servier to the one downstairs. I cannot print from the one downstairs any lionger since installing a new all in one office jet 8500 910A in main office wiht ethernet cable connection. Have cheked connections and all OK?

I don't think this will work. Try connecting it with USB to the server PC. By the way, it will only share printing, not scanning or faxing. Why not install the printer via wireless (or is it a wireless version)?

  • Trouble Printing from a network printer

I recently purchased a MacBook and I am having problems printing using the network printer. It's a HP Color LaserJet CM1017 (or 1015) and my MacBook connects to the printer yet never prints. In the queue it says "On hold authentication required"
    Please help!

You didn't mention if you're trying to share the printer or not.
Using a popular search engine, the general advice is to delete the printer and add it back in.
