plz fix it

AlexAnd wrote:
plz fix itWhether it's well known that the search feature does not work as we all could expect, I doubt it will be fixed soon. Well, at least within the current software used to managed this forum. Hopefully there won't be such inconsistency in the next one coming in a (near) future.

    Hey Apple—quit fixing s**t that isn't broken!

You could use google.  If you want to only search these discussions forums use the following syntax in a google search:
whatever you are searching for site:discussions.apple.com
    Update:
Why is this questio/discussion in Cinema Displays when it should have been in Using Apple Support Communities?

You're not alone in this problem - check out the !Feedback

Oracle might get the hint and reintroduce a search facility
    before too long :-)
Oh - and “Am I to go through all the listings (1-10)”. Don't
want to worry you but there are more that ten pages in this
forum – I estimate about 650 (I got to page 80 yesterday before
    giving up)

When I was in the AppStore forum I fleetingly saw a result for iCal font size. Yet when I search in iCal forum for that thread, I get the same three results I got searching the AppStore forum:

My bad. It's the question field, which just gives similar questions, not the search field. If I use the search field, it lets me restrict it to one forum. But I'm still puzzled why the question field would search unrelated forums.

  • Disappearing option of Search this forum

There used to be a Search this forum button in the Illustrator forum, but now it has disappeared altogether.
While it was still there, some of us had hopes of its beginning to work again, some day, maybe.
    But now it is gone.
    What about other forums?
    Any hopes left?

Can't imagine any reason they would change
    Great news.
Some of us "old timers" recall several times, when the older posts got dumped.
There was the aborted forum software issue - forget the dates, where much was lost. Some was saved to an archive, but the thread titles were all gone, so one only had page after page of "Post 15059686776," followed by "Post 15059686777," and so on. After a false start, the old forum was reinstated, but with the loss of the older posts.
    Then, there was Jive.
Seems that I am missing a big dump of older posts, and someone will refresh my memory.
Anyway, a lot of us rely on those older posts, even when a product's version number has moved up a few notches.
    Thanks,
    Hunt

  • Search of forums using global portal search (TREX) finds no results

    Hello,
we are running EP 7.00 SP 12, and have installed and configured the forums application.
According to [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/47/17904a21fa3696e10000000a11466f/content.htm], it is also possible to search the forums using the global portal search.
After the forums installation, the index and queue were automatically created for the forums. TREX Delta indexing of forum object is enabled in  System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Repository Managers -> Forum Repository. As I understand it, this should be enough for TREX to be able to index forum objects. There exist some simple threads in the forums, but when searching in the portal for some keywords that exist also in the threads, I get no results.
I looked at the queue of the forums index, and there have been only 6 entries, so I performed a reindexing and got now about 24 entries, but still the portal search returns no result.
Is there anything that I've missed or any further suggestions to test for?
P.S. I am quite new to the SAP (NetWeaver) domain, maybe I missed some mandatory settings or configurations...

    Hi Martin,
    thanks for your reply.
Till now, I didn't manage to solve the problem. I was away the last week, so I didn't had any time for working on this issue.
Currently I am not able to test your suggestions, because there is a new problem with the index. The index has now the state "pending". Because of this state I am not able to perform any further actions like re-indexing and so on. On help.sap.com there is only little information about this state. But for me it looks like, that there has to be performed some actions in the TREX Admin Tool, so that this index can be used again.
I tried also the following on the portal:
    - Delete this forum index
    - Disable TREX delta indexing in the forums repository manager
    - Enable TREX delta indexing in the forums repository manager.
This caused the creation of a new index for the forum. This new created index had however the initial state of "pending"...
Has anyone further suggestions on this topic?
P.S. Has someone successfully implemented such a scenario in his portal? (global portal search for forums)

  • Tip: searching the forum with user name

    Hello,
The forum software was recently upgraded. Unfortunately, very important and useful feature – searching the forum according to user name or user ID – was actually downgraded. It was simply removed from the user interface, and by that can seriously impair the daily “work” of all the users.
The odd angle of this issue is that it seems that the searching capability was not removed from the search engine itself, just from the user interface. The searching URL recognize a parameter called ‘&userID=…’, and that one will filter the search result by the user ID (unfortunately, I couldn’t find a similar parameter for the user handle name). For example, the following URL will give you Joel’s posts with the key word ‘translatable’, in the last 90 days –
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/search.jspa?threadID=&q=translatable&objID=f137&dateRange=last90days&numResults=30&userID=148363The following will give you all Scott’s posts with the key words ‘page’ and ‘cache’ (without date limit) –
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/search.jspa?threadID=&q=page+%26%26+cache&objID=f137&dateRange=all&numResults=30&userID=57434As can be seen, this URL is long, complicated, and includes escape codes. In order to make it a bit simpler, I’m using the regular user interface to define all the search criteria available there, make the search and them manually adding, to the end of the search engine created URL, the ‘&userID=…’ parameter.
As this parameter is using the users ID numbers, I’ve compiled the following liste, which include my “top forum users”. Everyone welcome to add their owns.
    User Name   -  User ID
    Scott Spadafore  -  57434
    Joel Kallman  -  148363
    Carl Backstrom  -  354238
    John Scott (Jes)  -  422290
    Denes Kubicek  -  15826
    Andy (ATD)  -  503936
    Patrick Wolf  -  132282
    Dimitri Gielis  -  570759
    Tyler Muth  -  283901
Arie Geller  -  229120I would like to thank Scott for giving me the initial tip. I hope this will help us make better use of this great knowledge pool.
    Regards,

  • How do I Search these forums?

Now, not wanting to sound stupid I've looked around carefully for a while before posting - I am unable to search these forums.
Yes, I tried the "search" box in the top right - it says "no shortcut found, try searching apple.com"
I made sure that I searched for a term that was obvious, EG: its in the title & text of a topic on the forums.
I pressed return & got some results - none of which are forum based.
I checked the help & info & it says "use the search box in the top right & forum posts will be listed under the forum discussions pane"
I think that's what I just did, but there is no discussions pane.
I can't believe that there is no search, nor that I am so stupid I can't search. So what's going on?
Did someone from Microsoft just redesign these forums? it's seems so....
    Powerbook G4 1.67Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    I found this link: http://discussions.apple.com/search!default.jspa
But, it always produces an Error...never the search page. Can anyone search yet? I miss that feature.
*Ahhh...just read the announcement thing...hope they get it back up and running again soon.
