Inconsistent temp readings?

anyone have this problem with varying cpu temp readings on reboot?
have amd a64 3000+ s754, msi k8tm-ilsr matx board.
latest bios...i have to keep rebooting to get lower temp readings, nothing changes with case.
it alternates between 51c idle and 33c idle--am i the only one that this is happening to?
edit: oops, i can edit, but can't remove this posting. mods, disregard, i'm reposting in a64 via forum.

update:
i switched my drives around for more airflow (since the hard drive was running constant 50-55C) and now have 41-degrees idle consistently on the CPU.
have no idea why it doesn't fluctuate anymore, but still disappointed that it's not as low as the low-end of the flakey temps, but still glad it's not as high as what it topped out at before. i was hoping 'real' temps would read 25-30 C now and i rebooted a few times to try and get a 'lower' value but no go.
before it *was* fluctuating on every other reboot before i changed my drive placement, within the same range as yours (15-20 degrees C) ...have you contacted MSI?

  • 845 PE-Max "NEW" Bios Flash "does it really fix the temp readings?"

    So MSI has been having problems with there Temp readings on there boards. So I was surprised to see that they just released a bios update to correct this issue. Of course I couldn't wait to download and flash the bios and see what effect it had. Everything went well, I popped into windows and (I'm testing Intel's stock HSF currently) and my temps dropped drastically????? Now this can't be correct either...
    Motherboard: 32c
    CPU: 29c
    Case 23c
    Now remember this is with the retail P4 2.53 HSF. With the new bios flash it shows a cooler temp than my Spark 7. And the Intel is only running at 2400RPM. Before the bios flash with the Intel HSF:
    Motherboard: 33c
    CPU: 40c
    Case 23c

    Well ran another test last night. Ran a CPU Burn-In test for 30 Minutes and the temp only hit 45c during the test. Obviously the new BIOS is incorrect. I find it impossible that the retail HSF on my P4 2.53GHz can keep it below 50c under max load. My Tt Spark 7 with Artic Silver II only kept it at 37c idle. I'm reading 28c Idle now using the retail HSF.

  • Problems -Wireless + Temp readings

    Two niggling issues with my Macbook. Hoping someone can shed some light.
    Firstly, after sleep or restart my Macbook does not automatically connect to my wireless connection. Each time I have to manually select.
    I've googled and searched on this forum. I've tried a hundred and one 'solutions' including using join by "preferred connections" and join by "automatic"
    Secondly, temp monitoring software appears to be broken. The temp readings do not update in real time in any of the monitoring software I've tried, including coreduotemp and hardware monitor.
    It gets stuck on one reading, for example now it's on 50C no matter how heavily I use the laptop.
    I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software and all associated files, but no difference. Like the other problem,googling shows that a minority(but sizeable number) of Macbook owners have exactly the same problem.
    I'm just hoping someone out there has managed to solve these problems.
    Thanks

    You're right restarting does give a new initial reading, but while in use, my temp reading does not update at all. I don't know, this thing is really i s really bugging me.
    What's crazy with the temp issue is that it seems to work flawlessly with most Macbooks. My friends Macbook has no such problem. Surely if it was a flaw in the CPU, it should be present in all Macbooks?
    About the wireless, same for me, I also leave it on automatic. Seems to be the one which 'works best'. Sometimes, rarely, it does auto-connect. But if it doesn't, it fails to find the connection however long I wait.
    It's strange, I then need to click on the signal indicator on the menu bar twice. First it fails to find any connection. And when I click it again afterwards, my wireless connection appears on the list for me to select. It's the same every time it fails to to auto-connect. It's as though it needs reminding twice!
    Thanks for the reply JSwedy, much appreciated.

  • K7N2 Delta Temp Readings Different...

    Hey guys.
    When in BIOS, and I use PC HEALTH, it shows my CPU Temp in the low 40's c. When I use PC Alert 4 and point to the icon in my system tray, it shows CPU Temp at low 30's c.
    Which is right? Why is there a difference?

    Ok, it's downloaded and installed.
    Tell me, what's too hot for the CPU? I'm just using the stock AMD supplied HSF, but don't overclock anything.
    The CPU Temp readings are now at 50c.

  • Hardware Monitor Vs. iStat  CPU Temp Readings

    Hello, Can some kind person with Mac expertise ... please tell me why I get two sets of different Temp' readings from Hardware Monitor and iStat ?
    For the same CPUs at the same time (generally : CPU B reads 2 Degrees C lower than CPU A)
    My CPUs average when my G5 is :
    Idle / light work load : 42.2 degrees C with Hardware Monitor
    Idle / light work load : 47.2 degrees C with iStat
    Working Heavy work load : 58.6 degrees C with Hardware Monitor
    Working Heavy work load : 64.0 degrees C with iStat
    My Mac interior is kept dust free & the tower is kept covered when shut down, (as its only in use for two hours per evening each day).
    Which of the readings may be correct : Hardware Monitor or iStat ?
    Is it possible to calibrate Hardware Monitor or iStat ?
    Many thanks in advance & a lovely shiny green star awaits ...

    Many thanks for your reply & Mac expertise
    I always have the Activity Monitor CPU open ..
    I am fascinated by the way the CPUs switch on heavy workloads .... when one CPU hits a top temp of 64 degrees C it seems to switch over to the other CPU. when the temp of the first CPU immediately drops it cuts in again !
    ... I am glad to hear its running rather cool (as its up on its very own desk).
    I shall always go by the higher readings then !
    Many thanks again

  • MSI 7636 Temp readings

    Hello folks.
    I have an MSI 7636 here. With , HWmonitor v1.15, http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php, there're temps reading as shown below:
    Can anyone tell me what is TMPIN0, TMPIN1 and TMPIN2? FYI, the temps readings were taken during a MemTest (after 1 hour running, a KVR1333D3N9/2G @1600mhz, 999-24, 1.593v). It's a Fintek F71889F sensor.
    Thank you.

    Yes it's H55M-E33. I don't know if it's the same with x58 setup but I did some comparison before I post this thread and yes it goes along with what you've said about TMPIN0 and TMPIN2. I'm not sure with TMPIN1.
    Heh, I'm living in a hot environment, like those export containers with only ceiling fan for room cooling, my rig will just suck hot air. 44ºC is the lowest it'll go after adding 2 additional fan one each for inlet and outlet. In cooler room yes it did some honor but no if it's the 'container'.
    But then thank you for your input.

  • New bios might help those with false temp readings...

    Well MSI just sent me a new bios to try to fix the false temp reading issue and at first I thought it was the already-released Bios 1.25 but after comparing the checksums of both it seems to be a different bios, being Bios 1.2A... Anyway, I stuck the files on a floppy and then booted from the floppy and flashed it and to no avail, the temps are still wrong... I have a Clawhammer core and was hoping to get some input from other people with Clawhammer and Newcastle cores... Here's the email conversation I had with them along with a link to the bios they sent me at the bottom...

     The CPU temperature is different and there is tolerance difference between the data showed and the real temperature according to the CPU model and type and even produce date and manufactory . And this MB supports thermal protection function, it will prevent the MB and CPU from overheating. So please don't worry about the temperature.
    We have tested various CPU with newcastle core in our lab but we can't find the same problem. We'll keep checking with AMD and contact them to get more different CPU to analyse it futher together with them. New BIOS will released right now if we have some findings and figure out the sloution. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

    When will you guys be releasing a new bios for the K8N Neo Platinum that fixes the issues with false CPU temperature readings? As far as I know, none of the beta bioses that are out right now fix that particular issue. I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Clawhammer). My temperatures have ranged anywhere from 60C to 184C, it's obvious that these temperatures are wrong because the computer would should itself down somwhere around 75C. I am also sure the the CPU heatsink is seated correctly as I have reseated it many times. I took a look around on your forums and also noticed that I am not the only one having these problems as tons of people with Clawhammer and Newcastle cores are having the same problem. Is there an estimated release date for a fix on this?
    Thanks, Alex

    Whatever results you guys come up with, please post it in this thread so I can send it back to MSI and hopefully it will help them in fixing this problem...
    Oh and the usual disclaimer, don't try and sue me if you screw over your motherboard, I'm simply passing along the information they sent me...

    For anyone who is still having problems, please post the information written on the top of your CPU so I can send it back to MSI to help them fix this. If you can't get the info off the top of your CPU, take a screenshot of the CPU tab in CPU-Z and send it to my email at [email protected]. In my next email I will also let them know that there are some people with Newcastles that still have problems. Thanks.

  • Z77A-G43 weird temp readings

    So today I noticed something weird with my temp readings.
    The TMPIN0 and TMPIN1 readings used to be normal, but I noticed they've been stuck at 128c all day, on idle and on load. Are the sensors broken? I know I have a horrible case with no airflow right now, and I have a Fractal Design Arc R2 coming next week, but I don't think that has anything to do with this.
    Any help would be fantastic. Thank you!

    This is an old topic, but in case anyone else is wondering I decided I'd let you know what I found. It turns out the sensors work just fine, the problem seems to have something to do with sleep mode. Apparently when my system goes to sleep mode and I turn it back on, those readings get stuck at some ridiculous readings, like 128c or -128c. I have no idea how I managed to miss this before, I guess I just didn't pay attention to it. After rebooting everything goes back to normal.

  • 990fxa gd80 v2 Post check codes and unlikely temp readings

    Hi all im new to this forum so forgive me if this isnt the right place to post a concern.
    my main concern is the checkdown codes that you see at startup only after overclocking the cpu i get a lowercase b next to all the codes,everything starts up and works fine only these codes before the over clock never had a b in front of them it was only numbers and i cant find any information about this anywhere.Im thinking it could be an issue with my power supply not having enuf power im only thinking this because once i have my cpu and ram over clocked if i overclock my GPU windows glitches and looses some of the windows graphical effects.
    also my other concern is about temp readings.when i open AMD overdrive TMPIN2,3 and 4 are all over 250 Degrees C which seems highly unlikely the system would even run for very long at these temps. all other temps seem normal,CPU stays 52  and TMPIN1 stays 41 at idle.Any information concerning these will be greatly appreciated
    Further information my system is
    MSI 990fxa gd 80 v2
    AMD fx 8320 clocked to 4.0 Ghz
    Gskill ram clocked to 1600 10 10 10 30
    Geforce 550 ti cyclone 2 GPU
    ADATA 120 GIG SSD
    WD blue 500 GIG
    5  120mm hydro bearing fans
    Seasonic 520watt 80plus bronze power

    like miklikit said those readings are ghosts as the pins will just be shorted and not connected to anything (if it was over 250C your board would me dead within 5 mins as whatever it was would start to burn)
    what codes are they exactly and I will do my best to look them up and work out what they mean? (if there on for less then a few seconds each there nothing to worry yourself over its only if it stops on one for more then 5 seconds then you have an issue)
    also that PSU should be ok as your system with what you have needs with a GeForce GTX 550 Ti - 24A and a 400W PSU minimum (add 50-70w for your extras + OC and you need 450-470W) <--- its close to the upper limit of that PSU so it may be a little on the lower end of what you really need (I would suggest 600W or more really for your setup)! (your errors you are getting may be its not got enougth power or your Overclock is unstable)

  • Has anyone verified the temp readings as of the 3.7 bios?

    Just flashed my bios to 3.7.  3.6 reported 38- 43°C idle, 60-64°C load.  3.7 show 32-36°C idle to 55°C load.  Temps look nice, but how accurate are they?  Has anyone used a probe to verify the accuracy of the temps?  I wonder how close the readings are to the real deal.

    We have legacy code running on legacy platforms that cannot be just retired unfortunately. It would be great if we could simply eliminate it overnight. The following is the code that I used to gauge whether the JVM has the new DST rule.
    int year = 2007;
    int month =10;
    int dateOfMonth = 1;
    int hour = 1;
    int minute = 0;
    GregorianCalendar gc = new GregorianCalendar(year, month, dateOfMonth, hour, minute);
    Date date = gc.getTime();
    System.out.println("displayed name=" + timeZone.getDisplayName() +
    " dst?=" + timeZone.useDaylightTime() +
    " date=" + date.toString() +
    " in dst?=" + timeZone.inDaylightTime(date));

    Fan is MUCH quieter now.  Although the paste on the cpu(?) was mostly dried out.   What kind of paste should I get and where is a good place to buy it?

    As for the thermal paste, Arctic Silver which can be bought at your local Radio Shack or online at NewEgg.

  • MSI 865PE Neo-L high temp readings?

    Hello..
    When my system is off for a couple of hours and then i boot up my system,and go directly into the bios,my CPU temperature is already 40-45C° !!! :O
    And even my cooling block isn't hot then(not even warm).
    Also in windows with the MSI software i get those high temperature readings.
    Only with speedfan,the temperatures are more normal.
    Is this a know issue that MSI boards have high temperature readings  ?(
    CPU is a P4 2.6Ghz FSB800
    (system is not overclocked)
    Thanks in advance! :D

    ok,first of all thanks for the reply's guy's!!!
    My system specs :
    MSI 865PE NEO-L (duh :D )
    P4c 2.6Ghz FSB800 with boxed cooler.
    Maxtor 30GB 7200RPM

    Q-tec 400W dual fan.
    DVD drive (lite-on 16xdvd ,52cd-rom)
    CDRW drive(lite-on 52-32-52)
    As said,with corecenter or other MSI software almost directly 45C° Even the heatsink is not warm then.
    (stressed 58-60C°)
    Speedfan gives me more then one temp..
    HD0 : 23C° this should be the harddisk temp i think.
    Temp1 : 29C° this should be the system temm or case temp.
    Temp 2 : 42C° this should be the CPU temp.
    All these readings are IDLE temps.
    And i think those are the wright temps...
    (ps,sorry for my bad english,if you don't understand something,please ask  :D )
    And Naviblue,nice overclock you got there!
