Incontext editing :: I accidentally wrote over my clients edits!! OH NO

please help asap, I was trying to add new pages to the incontext editable pages and I accidentally wrote over all his edits that took him days to do. is there a way to get his edits back from his saved publications?

This is one of the biggest drawbacks of InContext Editing. In this case, you have deleted content created by your client. In other cases, a client could add material to the site that totally destroys the design (unless you have been very careful in the permissions you give clients).
However, in one respect it's no different from working in a team. Before making any changes to a page, you need to download the latest version from the website, rather than relying on what you have on your local computer. The danger is that you also risk losing the default version of your beautiful design if you just overwrite your version with the one from the web. Moral: keep a backup.

  • Error Message: The Adobe InContext Editing service is currently unavailable

    Hey Folks,
For the past week, my client is getting the folowing error message when he tries to log in:
The Adobe InContext Editing service is currently unavailable.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please try again later.
However we can access the editor from another computer without without problems.
He is in a different country and he had been using the editor for quite a few months now.
    Have the minimum requirements changed?
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

    That's correct Corey.
The client is in Cyprus accessing the editor through a Firefox browser, which he had been successfully doing for some time now.
His representative, using the same login and password in Canada is able to access the editor fine.
I've since sent him a seperate login invitation
I've asked him to try another browser / computer.
    update his flash
He said his flash wouldn't update, so I don't know if it's an issue with his browser, computer, or user.
I'm waiting on the other two action items.
    Thanks for your involvement.

  • InContext Editing Too Slow

    Hi Folks,
Love the concept of InContext editing but I don't think it actually works!
I am only working on a simply HTML page with one other user. It takes forever to do anything.
clicking the edit page button: 23 seconds
clicking the done button: 56 seconds
Clicking the publish button: 25 seconds then clicked ok and it took another 47 seconds.
This is the 3rd client I have tried this product on. Each time we have found it a great solution until we try to actually work with it. It's just way too slow so we stop using it.
I tried the Adobe demo pagehttp://incontextediting.adobe.com/demo/includes/ice/ide.html#page=news.html. It's supper fast no issues at all.
Is there some trick to setting it up that I don't know about?
I spent an hour in total this morning with tech support. 25 minutes on hold, then I spent more time actually going through license numbers then talking about my problem. They just told me that Adobe does not support InContext Editing. I was told to go to the support portal and put in a ticket. I went there, the support portal doesn't list InContext Editing in the list of support issues. What gives?
Thanks for any help you can provide
    Sylvia

    Hi Tom,
Here is the page http://webviewdesigns.com/haiti_earthquake_relief/includes/ice/ide.html#page=haiti_news_ja ckie.html
I'm using Safari (MAC PRO) and my client is using Firefox (Windows XP)
I've had the same issue before with client's on other browsers and desktops, servers configs.
The page is a news page  for a Haiti relief site mini site. It's is inside my work site which is pretty big, could that be an issue?
I've attached it for you to look at.
    Thanks

  • Dreamweaver CC and incontext editing. No tools anymore?

    Hey,
I've just updated to Dreamweaver CC to find out that the tools for integrating incontext editing tags into a page have been removed. I always found these tools extremly helpful for me as designer as well as I found incontext editing a major selling point for my clients. Actually I was hoping to get more Business Catalyst integration in CC not LESS.
Is there any way to get back these functions as extensions? Or will we get new tools for the new editor (which is still in beta) in a future version of DW CC?
    Regards
    Tim

InContext editing in DW was a solution unto itself but Adobe stopped supporting it officially as an external plugin and decided it would exist solely on Business Catalyst.
BC's DW integration does not include inserting ICE like they do for modules and other tags in your layouts which is why you can't find any way to do it inside DW.
Furthermore, ICE is undergoing an overhaul and the next Gen version of ICE is still being worked out. I wouldn't use that version yet for clients full on just yet but you can read more about the next gen version of ICE on BC at http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3201
Basically, it's just some markup that you add to your HTML elements in your web page or page template.  You can also use the new ICE in BC's Email Campaigns so that your clients can create new HTML email campaigns and edit the content of your email template where you want them to or add/insert new repeating regions that you setup for them.
Here's more about the ICE in the email campaigns: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-2862
I don't think you need to worry about including the ICE javascript assets like you used to with the original ICE... if you add the markup to your html or email campaigns it should work out of the box.

  • InContext Editing - Trouble creating links

I have set up the editing for my client to go in and add links and images to link to other websites. For some reason both he and I are not able to create any "links" on the pages without having to do a lot of extra work.
When I go into the account and "edit page", click on the "link" icon and select the type I want the user to be able to click on to link....Adobe does not allow me to type anything into the "URL" box. Is there something I need to set up in my Dreamweaver code? The ONLY way I can set up links is if I first try to link to a "page in my site". Once I have selected a page to link to I can then go in and change it to link to "web page" and finally it will let me type in the url address in the box. This is extra work for my client that I was hoping we could avoid.
    Any suggestions??
Here is the website link to the page example:

It seems you found a bug in InContext Editing: when using Internet Explorer or Firefox and click inside a TABLE element inside an absolutely positioned DIV inside an editable region inside does not focus the editable region and no toolbar buttons are enabled. The element can be edited but the save button does not get enabled.
I've reported this bug in our internal bug tracking system.
To reproduce this, simply have this HTML inside a page:
    <div ice:editable="*" >
      <div style="position: absolute;"><table><tr><td>absolut table</td></tr></table></div>
    </div>
Clicking inside the TABLE will not focus the editable region and no toolbar buttons gets enabled.
Workaround: do not use absolutely positioned elements inside an Editable Region.

    Dan Popa

  • Contribute vs inContext editing

Hello! I was reading about Contribute and I was wondering if I can use it in client websites so they can edit their content like they would with InContext editing. Or is Contribute just a desktop application? Thanks

I haven't used inContext but it looks like it does many of the same things that can be done in Contribute. Contribute is a standalone application while inConext seems to be browser based.

    Hi,
InContext Editable (ICE) regions can only contains static areas like text and static  assets, it cannot wrap around javascript – populated areas or dynamic content like slideshows. (most likely causing the error)
ICE can edit only static page content such as regular HTML content. It cannot edit any element that is dynamically updated for example a div (or another element) which is manipulated (created or its contents are modified) by JS– populated areas or dynamic content like slideshows. It cannot edit menus, content holders or content outputted by system modules or tags either.
By default, on a page that has no ICE editable regions defined the editor attempts to find any regions you might want to edit and if possible make them editable. If it does not find the correct regions you want to edit you will need to explicitly define some editable regions.
Refer to this article on Defining InContext Editing editable regions - http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/838/cpsid_83855.html?bc-partner
    Hope this helps!

  • Incontext editing is anyone using it

I am using it and it is working fine but if I want to update a template it seems to loose all the data that the end user has entered?  is it ment to do this? surely not so what am i doing wrong?

It's exactly the same situation as if two people are collaborating on a website. The most up to date version is on the one on the live server, not the one on your local machine. If you want to make changes to the live file, you need to download it to your local computer so that you can edit the up-to-date version. Unless you do so, you'll simply wipe out the new data and replace it with the original file.
One of the problems of InContext Editing is that it gives (usually) inexperienced people the freedom to edit web pages. Unless you set up the InContext Editing rules very carefully beforehand, you can end up with changes to the page that create a tangled mess of code.

  • InContext Editing regions

Does anyone know if you can convert template regions to
    inContext editable regions?

    Hi odsonvic,
Muse does not currently support client editing using InContext Editing regions in Business Catalyst. Please see the following topic and idea for more information (and please add your vote to the idea):

  • Incontext editing and templates

    Hi
I´ve been trying to find documentation about the
interaction between ICE and regular Dreamweaver templates without
any success. Is it still possible to edit master templates locally
and change e.g. a menu for a complete site even if some pages has
been edited via the ICE interface online?

    Hello Simon,
InContext Editing regions can only be applied (on child
pages) on regions that have been marked as editable in the template
    – the .dwt page. On the other hand, only the modifications
that are made in Dreamweaver outside the template regions (in the
master .dwt file) are propagated to all child pages. Thus, when a
change is propagated, it won’t interact in any way with the
sections of the page that were modified by InContext Editing.
So, if the menu you want to change is not in an editable
region (in the template .dwt page), everything should work just
fine. The change will propagate to all pages based on that
template, and modifications made via InContext Editing will remain
    intact.
Also, as a general rule of thumb, before modifying the master
template, you should make sure to download/"get" the most recent
version of the site from the server. Additionally, if your client
is updating the site via InContext Editing while you are making
changes locally in Dreamweaver, you will overwrite any changes your
client made when you upload the site again.
Please let me know if this answers your question, or if you
    need clarification.
We intend to provide a tutorial on working with Dreamweaver
templates in the near future. I will post an announcement in the
    forums when this is available.
    Best regards,
    Corey

  • I accidentally pasted over a note.

I accidentally pasted over a note on my iPhone 4 containing 3 weeks of work hours. Have since checked other notes. Tried shaking the crap out of the phone in the "new" pasted over note to bring up the "undo" to no avail. The note was not saved to the cloud. Is there any way to get the original note back?

    macropyga wrote:
    Tried shaking ... the phone
Shaking could not possibly help.  It could only physically hurt the iPhone.
    macropyga wrote:

What could this mean?  I don't have any idea.  Either the notw was saved to the cloud (if you keep your notes in an iCloud account), or you have a Notes account somewhere else that might have the original note (but almost certainly not).
Anyway, with 99.9% certainty, the old note is gone.  The only hope is if you keep notes in some other account (like Outlook) and have a backup in that account.

  • Adobe Muse & Business Catalyst "InContext Editing" formatting limitation problem

I created a site in Adobe Muse, and hosting it on Business Catalyst (web marketing account). I want my client to update site using the new "Edit" tab for "InContext Editing.” Made her an administrator and user like myself. I can edit content, but no formatting is allowed. Not even allowing me to add a link. A setting in Muse or BC I need to change? Any help appreciated, thanks.

    Hi
Can you replicate the same behavior with any site you have published with Muse or any specific site ?
If you try to add any content , do you face any error ? or what exactly happens ?
Please try to check this with a different page and add a simple text and publish.
If still same issue, it would best to submit a support ticket directly.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Help?? I wrote over an important folder..

I had two folders named the same and wrote over my backup which contains tons of pictures that I need on my external backup drive.
How can I get them back? can I? I hope
    any suggestions please?????

Just to chime in, you really should do regular backups. Since you're on Leopard, you already have Time Machine, so all you need is an external HD, Time Capsule, or Airport Extreme with an external HD, or a drive attached to another Mac running Leopard on the same network.

  • How do i remove incontext editing to allow contribute to work

Hi, I am hoping someone maybe able to help...
A while ago I put a site together at applied incontext editing regions. After being notified that it will no longer work in May this year, I decided to purchase contribute and went through the labourious task of removing all incontext editable regions and replacing them with normal editable regions.
I have launched the site in contribute to test that everything works and it keeps coming up with 'You can't edit this page in Contribute because it has "Adobe InContext Editing" region(s).
This is on almost every page on the site but two which it allows me to edit. I have gone back to the Dreamweaver file and checked through the code, I am certainly no code expertI have compared it to sites which didnt have the InContext applied to it... I am baffled
Can anyone shed any light on the situation?
    Much appreciated
    Naomi

For anyone that has a similar problem....
I have now sorted the problem - my dreamweaver was not updating the server copy. I used FETCH as a secondary option by dragging and dropping the files. It updated the files and its now working! YAY!
I had to make sure all incontext code was removed at the top of the code there was a line as well as along side each editable region. I even took out the editable regions and replaced them with normal editing regions (not Incontext).
