InContext Editing regions

Does anyone know if you can convert template regions to
inContext editable regions?

Hi odsonvic,
Muse does not currently support client editing using InContext Editing regions in Business Catalyst. Please see the following topic and idea for more information (and please add your vote to the idea):

  • How do i remove incontext editing to allow contribute to work

Hi, I am hoping someone maybe able to help...
A while ago I put a site together at applied incontext editing regions. After being notified that it will no longer work in May this year, I decided to purchase contribute and went through the labourious task of removing all incontext editable regions and replacing them with normal editable regions.
I have launched the site in contribute to test that everything works and it keeps coming up with 'You can't edit this page in Contribute because it has "Adobe InContext Editing" region(s).
This is on almost every page on the site but two which it allows me to edit. I have gone back to the Dreamweaver file and checked through the code, I am certainly no code expertI have compared it to sites which didnt have the InContext applied to it... I am baffled
Can anyone shed any light on the situation?
    Much appreciated

For anyone that has a similar problem....
I have now sorted the problem - my dreamweaver was not updating the server copy. I used FETCH as a secondary option by dragging and dropping the files. It updated the files and its now working! YAY!
I had to make sure all incontext code was removed at the top of the code there was a line as well as along side each editable region. I even took out the editable regions and replaced them with normal editing regions (not Incontext).

I think I can see the problem! - I have updated the file in dreamweaver but it
is not updating the copy on the server when I upload it...
I can see the code that I have deleted still showing at the top of the page - I just cant get it to refresh!
I will try doing it with fetch.....
Just done it with fetch and it works! - Dreamweaver will not refresh the server copy.

  • Incontext editing and templates

    Hi
I´ve been trying to find documentation about the
interaction between ICE and regular Dreamweaver templates without
any success. Is it still possible to edit master templates locally
and change e.g. a menu for a complete site even if some pages has
been edited via the ICE interface online?

    Hello Simon,
InContext Editing regions can only be applied (on child
pages) on regions that have been marked as editable in the template
    – the .dwt page. On the other hand, only the modifications
that are made in Dreamweaver outside the template regions (in the
master .dwt file) are propagated to all child pages. Thus, when a
change is propagated, it won’t interact in any way with the
sections of the page that were modified by InContext Editing.
So, if the menu you want to change is not in an editable
region (in the template .dwt page), everything should work just
fine. The change will propagate to all pages based on that
template, and modifications made via InContext Editing will remain
    intact.
Also, as a general rule of thumb, before modifying the master
template, you should make sure to download/"get" the most recent
version of the site from the server. Additionally, if your client
is updating the site via InContext Editing while you are making
changes locally in Dreamweaver, you will overwrite any changes your
client made when you upload the site again.
Please let me know if this answers your question, or if you
    need clarification.
We intend to provide a tutorial on working with Dreamweaver
templates in the near future. I will post an announcement in the
    forums when this is available.

  • InContext editing error: This region contains content with dynamic behavior added..

We just set up a web site with InContext editing following the procedures in Business Catalyst documentation to do that. But now when we go to the administration section of the site, and turn on InContext editing, it won't let us update the text. We receive an error message:
"This region contains content with dynamic behavior added..."
Does anyone know what causes this problem, and how to fix it?

    Hi,
InContext Editable (ICE) regions can only contains static areas like text and static  assets, it cannot wrap around javascript – populated areas or dynamic content like slideshows. (most likely causing the error)
ICE can edit only static page content such as regular HTML content. It cannot edit any element that is dynamically updated for example a div (or another element) which is manipulated (created or its contents are modified) by JS– populated areas or dynamic content like slideshows. It cannot edit menus, content holders or content outputted by system modules or tags either.
By default, on a page that has no ICE editable regions defined the editor attempts to find any regions you might want to edit and if possible make them editable. If it does not find the correct regions you want to edit you will need to explicitly define some editable regions.

  • Business Catalyst Help | Defining InContext Editing editable regions using any code editor

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/defining-incontext-editing-editable-regio ns-1.html

This is what I meant by shape.
Normally, I drag out a rectangle with Muse, then set it's background fill so that it can turn in to a object which I can change the states for the button. I published my site with several this kind of links and I want to change it whenever possible in the in broswer editing. However, at first, when go to in browser editing, this object is completely not editable. After I added in the attributes of the Editable Regions,
<div ice:editable="*"></div> I get an full editable functions.
For example in my site, I have a rectangle with an image background to it,with an external link. And after I added the
ice:editable="*" in the div tag,I got to edit my so called "button".
Keep in mind that this had a link to it.
After I click edit, a full control showed up, so I try to select the phot and insert link ,hoping that it could add a link to the photo.
However, after I specifiy the adress, the photo is gone and a text link is left behind. I can still add back in the photo but I just can't make it a linked photo.
And what's eventually left behind isn't the linked photo, but a linked text.
The main question I'm wondering is that if I'm able to change the link of a image through in broswer editing,or the link of a regular shape like a rectangle, so that I can always update the link of the objects through buisness catalyst and when user clicking the photo/shape, they can be brought to an adress.
But it seems like I only can change the link for a text.

  • Adding a photo gallery loses the editable region

Hello I have a test site that I am road testing for my client and have noticed a slight problem when adding a photo gallery. When a photo gallery is added to a page the once editable region then loses it’s editable status. When I take the page back in Dreamweaver the div is still showing as editable but this is not the case when using incontext editing.
Any help would be most welcome
    thanks
    Martin

It is a module, there is nothing to edit, the content isa  module generation which renders the gallery based on its paramaters. In the case of a gallery you go add the images into the folder, give them captions in the admin if you wish and depending on the CSS setup you have they render.
I personally teach no client to use that editor, everything is through the admin with good web apps use and pages and good templates etc.

  • Can't edit anything in editable regions.....

    Hi.
I've set up a few sites with InContext Editing and only one of them seems to have this problem.
The problematic site is hosted through Yahoo! and I am able to register the site and connect to it through InContext Editor. However, when I browse to a page with editable regions, I can see the regions outlined properly but can't click inside them to make any changes. I can also toggle b/w the text, image and link controls but none of the functions within those work.
the site files that i've added editable regions to are as follows:
this file is not attached to a DW template......
    http://www.choreojournal.com/index.html
this file is attached to a DW template........
    http://www.choreojournal.com/ci_contributors.html
I've successfully edited pages that are AND are not attached to DW templates so I don't think that this is the problem.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of existing issues with using InContext Editing with sites hosted by Yahoo!
BTW....I'm not a fan of hosting on Yahoo! but my client is and I'm having to wrestle with all of those limitations.
Thanks in advance for any insight and guidance that anyone can provide on this issue.

    Hi Florin,
I tried it in Firefox 3 and it works. IE 7 didn't like it. I originally set all of this up on my laptop which has IE 8 on it so I just assumed that IE worked no matter what. Looks like I need to install IE 8 on my desktop as well.
But Firefox will work for now.
    Thanks for the tipoff.

  • Site with editable regions won't allow editing

Hi, I have set up multple sites for InContext Editing. All works fine except this last one that won't allow editing online. When clicking "Edit Page" I get a message saying "There are no editable regions." I have checked and double checked the pages and the regions are there. I've reflowed the content into all pages (template) but I still get the same message in InContext.
Please help me figure out what's wrong and how I can get the pages editable.

InContext Editing can edit only the elements having the ice:editable
    attribute set.
Your page should contain something like this:
    >
<!-- the following DIV is an ICE editable region -->
    <div ice:editable="*">
       some editable content here
    </div>
    >
But there are no such elements in the
    http://www.nolimithockey.com/index.html page.
    >
You say you can see the ICE regions in that page so I can only assume that
you didn't upload the file on the FTP server and you are looking at your
local version of the file, not the one from the server.
    >
Another possibility is that you mistakenly treat Dreamweaver Template
Editable Regions as InContext Editable Editable Regions.
I  can see that there are DW editable regions in your page: the elements
    located between the <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="Headline" > and <!
    InstanceEndEditable --> comments.
    >
    >
You can create ICE editable regions by selecting in Dreamweaver an element
and applying the Create Editable Region command under the DW menbu Insert ->
InContext Editing menu, see the image:

  • InContext Editing not showing "edit page" button

I made a site for someone using dreamweaver and defined areas as editable regions.
I've used InContext Editing before and found it really easy with no problems until now. When I log in from my computers (varrying between 3 different browsers and 2 different operating systems), it works just fine.
At the top I see exactly this:
There are two rows at the top, and I can click "edit page" and it works perfectly.
When the person I made it for logs in, he see the top row... like this:
Clicking "Edit Site" seems to do nothing for him (well, me neither, but I can just hit edit page)...
I can't check what's going on with his computer because I don't live where he lives, but I had him make sure he had the most recent version of flash, and he does.
Does anyone know of any common problem with this? Does he have too old of a browser? Is he disabling something on his browser that's blocking the second row?
I've googled this pretty thoroughly and can't fine anyone that has had the same problem

Assuming here that you have set up ICE regions on that page...
And that he "accepted" your invitation to do ICE.

  • Dreamweaver CC and incontext editing. No tools anymore?

    Hey,
I've just updated to Dreamweaver CC to find out that the tools for integrating incontext editing tags into a page have been removed. I always found these tools extremly helpful for me as designer as well as I found incontext editing a major selling point for my clients. Actually I was hoping to get more Business Catalyst integration in CC not LESS.
Is there any way to get back these functions as extensions? Or will we get new tools for the new editor (which is still in beta) in a future version of DW CC?
    Regards
    Tim

InContext editing in DW was a solution unto itself but Adobe stopped supporting it officially as an external plugin and decided it would exist solely on Business Catalyst.
BC's DW integration does not include inserting ICE like they do for modules and other tags in your layouts which is why you can't find any way to do it inside DW.
Furthermore, ICE is undergoing an overhaul and the next Gen version of ICE is still being worked out. I wouldn't use that version yet for clients full on just yet but you can read more about the next gen version of ICE on BC at http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3201
Basically, it's just some markup that you add to your HTML elements in your web page or page template.  You can also use the new ICE in BC's Email Campaigns so that your clients can create new HTML email campaigns and edit the content of your email template where you want them to or add/insert new repeating regions that you setup for them.
Here's more about the ICE in the email campaigns: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-2862
I don't think you need to worry about including the ICE javascript assets like you used to with the original ICE... if you add the markup to your html or email campaigns it should work out of the box.

  • Editable regions for the new BC editor

    Hi
Business Catalyst have now added a new incontext editor with new editable regions that is not supported inside Dreamweaver.
Will the new editable regions be added to Dreamweaver in the near future?

    Hi SiteSpark,
I have forwarded our query to the product team. Will get back after I hear from them.

    That's correct Corey.
The client is in Cyprus accessing the editor through a Firefox browser, which he had been successfully doing for some time now.
His representative, using the same login and password in Canada is able to access the editor fine.
I've since sent him a seperate login invitation
I've asked him to try another browser / computer.
    update his flash
He said his flash wouldn't update, so I don't know if it's an issue with his browser, computer, or user.
I'm waiting on the other two action items.
    Thanks for your involvement.

  • ERROR: Spry Dataset -vs- InContext Editing

I am having horrible luck importing ICE editable content into a Spry Dataset.
What I'm trying to achieve is something similar to the YUI Calendar Method performed by George & Pablo here: http://tv.adobe.com/#vi+f1500v1435
The easiest way is to take a web page I have set up in tables.. but you can only create Editable Regions for InContext Editing using <div>s...
No matter which method I try, I come up with an error. I need the end user to be able to edit his own "Calendar" and I need to be able to imort this information into a Spry Dataset. Any way I can accomplish this???

I forgot to mention one other problem
The layout that I sketched up is the one I am going for. So a tip on how to get the text and the headings to flow around the image like shown in the picture would be greatly appreciated. Is it recommended to use tables inside div tags or spry for that matter?
    Thanks a million.
