Inconvenient Feature in Linksys Connect

I found a very annoying "feature" in Linksys Connect...
When I set up my Router, I wanted a relatively LONG password for my wireless WPA2 / AES configuration
but wanted a relatively short easy to use password for for browser access (192.168.1.1) ... I think that the reasoning is obvious.
In most cases once you set the WPA2 password, you do not have to "go back" to it... but the "human" access to the Browser utility will usually mean a shorter password.
When I first set up my E1200, I was able to do JUST that.. have a 26 character password for the Browser access while having a pretty hellacious looking [LONG] password for WPA2...
Unfortunately, I just found that if you then open up Linksys connect, you will get a message INSISTING that you change your Router (short) password to the Wireless (much longer)  password...
This is an extremely annoying and unnecessary job step....  Has anyone else had this issue?
--Zvi

Of course that is "how the software works" -- but it seems to be a rather stupid design.  In effect, the Linksys Connect feature iposes an unreasonable "rule" in its use -- making it FAR LESS user friendly than it should be.  More important -- there appears to be NO logical reason for such a "rule"... and as such, it should be treated like a BUG (or a "Design Flaw") and FIXED rather than simply keeping an inconvenient "Status Quo" in place...

  • Linksys Connect CD/Downloadable Software compatibility problem with Mac OSX 10.4.11

I purchased a Linksys E1200 and I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11. As I have a G4 eMac, I cannot run a higher operating software. The CD that came with the E1200 will not launch the Linksys Connect software, as it is not compatible with Mac OSX 10.4.11. When I download Linksys Connect software from the support section of the Linksys site (version 1 or 2), same problem. I have read that I can use the E1200 with Mac OSX 10.4.11, but how? Getting very frustrated and would appreciate any practical advice/help. Thanks!

    Hi bassist71,
You may actually do the setup manually. It's done by accessing the setup page of the route through 192.168.1.1 and configuring the settings according to your Internet connection type. If you have a Cable connection, you may check this link, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=0ff4c94586a345d082828ec2161aaecf_3686.xml&pid=80&r... • Re-installing Linksys Connect on laptop after new hard drive installed

I have a E4200 router and had Connect loaded on my laptop. My hard drive crashed and needed replacement. I had no problem signing on to my WiFi once I got the new hard drive installed.
With the new hard drive, I now do not have Linksys Connect installed on my laptop. My question is: Can I re-install Connect with the router running perfectly well or will re-installing Connect with the router already up and running cause me problems?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Linksys connections

I have a linksys wireless network set-up at my office. I would like to connect my mac to this wireless network. in the linksys connection window it shows me a WEP password for a mac. but when i use it my mac won't let me on the network. does anyone know how to solve this problem?

One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • Old ciscoconnect or linksys connect availabe for ea6100

hi, is it possibe to install the old cisco connect or linksys connect for Ea-6100 instead of the new linksys smart wi-fi. the parental control on smart wifi linkys doesn't goes good and i prefer the old version. where can i dowload the old version thank you

I don't think it's possible to load the old Connect (Cisco/Linksys) software to the EA6100 router since the EA6100 router is pre-loaded with a Smart Wifi firmware, which is compatible with the Smart Wifi setup only.

  • Port forwarding feature in Linksys VoIP adapter

    Hello,
I tried to use the port forwarding feature (in the Application tab), but could not get successful. I need to telnet to a Cisco router behind my Linksys VoIP Adapter, uses starting port=23, ending port=23 and ip is the Cisco router ip.
Let me know if I am missing anything. I tried the DMZ feature too, but still the same result.
When I am trying from outside I get this:
    termserver>telnet 75.156.137.224
    Trying 75.156.137.224 ...
    %Connection refused by remote host
If I configure the Cisco Router with NAT, I have no problem connecting from outside. I want the Linksys as the gateway, not the Cisco router. Any help would be highly appreciated.

What is the model number of your Linksys router? Make sure that you have the latest firmware on the device. Also make sure that you forward TCP port 23 for the IP address of the Cisco router coming from the DHCP server of the Linksys router or if you have a static, it has to be on the same subnet as Local IP address of the Linksys router.

  • Guest networking features on Linksys routers?

Do any of Linksys routers have the recently popular guest network access feature where you can create a password protected or no password secondary network that provides internet-only access to guests and prevents them from accessing your main network (computers, printers, HDDs etc?). Does Linksys's highest end WRT610N have a similar feature that works slightly differently but does the same thing?

    Peanuts,
It really doesn't answer our question. I want file and printer sharing enabled on my netwrok and I do not know what their work group is (they are guest) besides Windows Vista and Windows7 see computers in other workgroups with no problems. So with file and printer sharing enabled on my home network and wireless guest loging into the gust access on the router can they ever see the home computers.
The computers connected to the guest network will NOT be able to see the computers connected to your home network. Just like what VALETLINKSYS said, the guest network is using another IP range which is 192.168..33.xxx which is totally different from the IP range of the home network - 192.168.1.x.

  • [Bug] Or feature? Database connection closed if given a name after first op

I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature.
    oracle.javatools.db.Database db = oracle.javatools.db.DatabaseFactory.findOrCreateDatabase("sample", conn);
If I supply a name for the database as the above line using "sample", the database connection is closed after the first op, i.e., you can call
db.listObjects once, but the second time, it will fail with StackOverFlowException. But the culprit is the database connection is closed after the first op.
However, if I don't give it a name, using null,
    oracle.javatools.db.Database db = oracle.javatools.db.DatabaseFactory.findOrCreateDatabase(null, conn);
    There's no problem at all.
Is this a bug or a feature?
If a feature, the JavaDoc made it worse, by using the following example:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/esdk/api1013/oracle/javatools/db/DatabaseFactory.html
The DatabaseFactory should be used over the DBObjectProviderFactory when a Database specifically is required, and the name and Connection of that Database are available.
    e.g.
java.sql.Connection conn = // the Connection to the db
    DatabaseFactory.findOrCreateDatabase( "ora10g", conn );
The example sure sounds like a name is mandatory. Or perhaps the name is not some random name, but TNSName? If so, the Doc should certainly mention that.

  • Router problems. Multiple Linksys connections

I am having an issue with one of my computer connections to my Linksys WRT110 router.   I am using a WUSB100  USB adapter on my HP computer with Windows Vista.    I set up one connection to the Router initally and just used the default Linksys router name.    It was working fine but now it is always disconnected and when I look at the connection it is connected to Linksys 2 3 4 or some other weird linksys router that are all really my Router.   When I look for availible net works it lists my original Linksys router but there are all these LInksys 2 linksys 3 and Linksys 2 3 4 routers too.    They are not other linksys routers in the hood they are all comming from my router.   how can i get it to connect to my Linksys router only instead of connecting to these other connections that it seem to be renaming itself.

On your computer click on Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing center and then under task click on "Manage Wireless Network" and in the preferred network list remove all the networks and then close that window... Now again in the Network and sharing center window... click on Connect to a Network and search for your wireless network and try to connect to your network... Once connected to your network check if you are Online.

  • Adding features to Adobe Connect MP3 Player Extension?

We have a few feature requests for the Adobe Connect MP3 Player Extension.
Could you make it much more slim and compact in all modes?
Allow the playlist to contain only 1 file
Allow me to show/hide the playlist instead of needing to guess which song is next.
Could you allow me to change the background via XML settings?
Could you make all of the buttons smaller?
If you are willing to provide us with the source files for the Flash, then we could have some of our designers update it and send our changes back to you for the benefit of all.

    Hello folks behind liveclass,
From another thread, I know that you are referring to http://www.adobe.com/in/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/mp3-player.html. I have shared your request with Alistair, the creator of the extention. It is up to Alistair how he wants to take this forward.

  • Linksys connection problem

I have a linksys WRT54G wireless router. I use it for my macbook and two other imacs at home. The internet speed (i mean the time it takes to load a web page) is so much slower on my macbook than on my imacs. I think it is a configuration problem. I typed in the router on my web browser and tried to secure my network (WEP). I typed in a password and clicked generate, and i was given a really long sequence of numbers and letters. Now, i dont know what my password is. Is it what i typed in, or the number generated? I am using another open wireless network because linksys is so slow. but now, I can't even switch to linksys! I've tried numerous times. When asked for the password I typed in both the password I provided and the one I was given. I get the message "error joining the airport network linksys." I opened system preferences and under airport settings, then security, I changed it from WEP to none to see if that would make linksys once again an open wireless network. That didnt work. So now I dont know what to do and why I can't even connect to linksys anymore.

I connected an ethernet cable to my macbook and the router and I was able to connect to linksys and change my settings. But there is just something wrong with my router. For the past two days I have not been able to connect to linksys and sometimes linksys does not even appear on the list of networks. The settings appear to be normal, so I don't know whats wrong now.

  • Captivate 8 video feature without internet connection

    Hello everyone,
I have a few questions in regards to the video hosting features. My team and I are currently looking to purchase a software to help us get started with our new product which will focus on delivering e-learning content to mobile devices in remote areas.
We are currently faced with  the problem of how to package our video content in our applications. Please correct me if I am wrong but from our understandings Captivate 8, works by streaming and progressively downloading video context while the app is in use. This is a problem for us because most of our clients will not have access to internet.
Am I missing some important information as to how this work, is there some way to upload the application with the videos already package as part of the application file? Therefore making the use of the internet will be obsolete
Thanks in advance for you help.

So the entire project can be download to a mobile device and used without internet connections?
Is there anyway to also capture responses from users even without an internet connection? That could be push back to servers when clients are able to get access to the internet.
Sorry, for all the questions. We are just trying to make sure we have the right software for our project.

  • Linksys connection dropped after 10 mins

    Hello, everyone.
I'm having a problem with my wireless router. As stated in the title, when I turn it on in the morning (I turn it off every night), it works fine for about 10 minutes, then my wireless computer will get knocked offline (the one connected directly to the router is fine and stays connected). If I reset the connection, it takes a full 2 or 3 minutes to connect (with internet abilities).
    Background information:
    Router: Linksys WRT54G2 V1
Computer: Dell XPSM1530 Laptop; Vista Home Premium
Please advise on what the heck to do!
    Thanks
    S. Wynters

well the first thing you should do is perform a firmware upgrade on your linksys router. Below is a link for you to follow.
    www.linksys.com/download
After the firmware upgrade you should perform a factory reset by holding in the reset button on back of the router for 30 seconds. This will erase all previous settings, so I suggest that you write down your settings so that you can manually enter them back into the router.
Also, I would see if there are updated drivers for the wireless card at the manufactures website. See if that helps
    Good Luck

  • Are features of "Internet Connect"still available

Internet Connect in Tiger let you see the MAC address of the Airport Base Station you were connected to. Is that feature available somewhere else in Leopard since Internet Connect is gone?

Thanks for the info, but I am looking for the MACaddress of the base station I am connected to, not of the laptop I am using.
We are at a school where there are many access points and we are trying to determine how much bleed-over we are getting. In Tiger, if you launched Internet Connect and went to the Airport tab, you would get the Base Station ID. We could then determine which base station we were connected to and determine if we actually had the one with the strongest signal. We could also then monitor that base station for troubleshooting. I haven't found that Base Station ID information in Leopard. Can anyone help me with that?
    Thanks

  • Linksys connection help: Router WRT54G

    Hi,
I currently have a wireless routher WRT54G and have had it for about 4 years now.  Ever since purchasing it, I have frequently had problems with its connection.  It will randomly stop connecting to the internet.  I know nothing is wrong with the modem or the actual internet, because connecting directly to the modem allows me to regularly search the internet.
I have called the linksys technical support/customer service several times and they refuse to help me at all, or even let me speak with a technician unless I pay a $32 extended service fee, because apparently my warranty has run out.  So if anyone at all could help me solve this problem and be able to reconnect to the internet using the wireless router, because linksys representitives are utterly useless, it would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance

Are you saying that when using the router with a cable to your PC you have no problems reaching the internet, BUT when you use a wireless connection to your PC you have an intermittent connection to the internet?
