InCopy/InDesign issue with checkout/edit

Not sure if anyone else has come across this in dealing with InDesign/InCopy. We use both for many of our projects (i.e., newsletters, plans, reports) but are having issues with the InCopy being able to check out stories for editing. Sometimes the user cannot select the file at all, even though the stories have been exported. Sometimes, they can check them out, but it won't allow them to update? We've installed all the updates to the programs, that were supposed to solve some of the issues, but this must be a different issue all together? Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

We are installing and using the software under the administrator logins.
My main concern is that we purchased computers that have a processor that is incompatible with Adobe InCopy/InDesign CS3. We purchased two types of PC's, some with AMD Atholon II processors and some with Intel Core2 vpro processors. InDesign/Incopy CS3 were going to go on the Intel's (more power computer) and the InCopy was going to only go on the AMD's.
Prior to receiving the CS3 versions of the software, I hadn't been aware that was the version we were being assigned by our corporate office. After looking at the requirements of CS3 on the adobe site, it only mentions Intel Processors as basic requirements.
(We purchasd the computers with AMD's to save some money....the users requiring InCopy didn't need "as much computer" as the InDesign users).
Could the processor be the problem?

PE 8? Is anyone having an issue with HD editing?

This is my second thread. Sorry if I am being repetitious
PE8 locks up on me when I try to edit video. Im using Vista 64 and the application goes white and says (not responding) I am editing HD m2ts files that are about 3gig. When I edit a small 100meg file it doesn't lock up. I have tried every HD setting to for my project and get the exact same result. Right now I am uninstalling the software, and reinstalling it.
Am I able to get help from Adobe? I tried calling yesterday and was on hold for 45 min before I was cut off.
Someone tell me what is needed to edit HD video...

2 - 500G, 7200rpm Hard Drives
The video came from my Panasonic HDC-HS300 camcorder. I got the files by copy and paste. When I plugged in my camera I treated the camera hard drive like I would any other and located the files and ctrl-c ctrl-v. The files are m2ts.

File : 2.75 GB (2.75 GB), duration: 0:23:25, type: DSH, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 98 %

Just to give a little update... I have done everything that you guys have told me and have gone through each step of the troubleshoot Freezes... support document. I then called tech support and spent a good hour on line with them and the support supervisor. They are not sure what the details are, but they will elevate it to higher powers.
Being on the phone with tech support forced me to look close at the problems and I have a few opinions.
With a small AVCHD (m2ts) file there are no issues. With a 75meg I could immediately begin to edit once the file is set in the sceneline. With a larger file 300meg I had to wait a min or two and then it worked fine.
However with a large file, 2.75g, there are major problems.
When the file is in the organizer screen there is a process called conforming and then rendering that takes place. With a very small file this is done quickly, with a med size file this is done in the background. The problem is with a large file. Once you move the file from the organizer to the sceneline the process stops and elements 8 locks up. My next step is to load the clip I want to edit and wait for it to conform and try to edit. If that doesn’t work I will let it render and try.
There is an issue with the file size that was not there in premiere elements 7.

Issue with UIX Editable Table

Hi,
I have created a Master-Detail-Detail page using UIX. I want to make the last detail table editable. I have tried the tip mentioned in the following page to make the table editable.

But, the condition in switcher ${uix.current.EmployeeId.inputValue == bindings.EmployeeId.inputValue is always returning false. This is because, the ${bindings.xxxxx} is returning null for all columns.
Could anyone help me in resolve this issue Please?

Issue with inserting edit item form using sharepoint designer 2013

Hi,
I inserted an edit form of a custom list in a site page using sharepoint designer-2013. But it is giving error "no item exists".
I am using default ListItemId Parameter with ID query string and I passed the query string parameter to that page. But still the result is same. But if I give any default value, page is displaying fine for that specific item although I dont pass any querystring
to the page URL.
Can you please guide me?

From your description, I know you get issue when you add “edit form” of custom list to a page.
I tried to reproduce your issue, and if I added “edit form” to page without “Advanced Mode”.
I add “edit form” to page with steps below:
Right click the page, click “Edit File in Advanced Mode”.
Find source with keywords [ContentPlaceHolderId="PlaceHolderMain"].
Choose INSERT tab in the Ribbon.
Click “Edit Item Form”, and choose the custom list that you want to add.
Save file, and go to the page.

HELP - Issues with external edit in lightroom cc

Hi! I'm relatively new to lightroom and this was working but now isn't & on both of my mac computers so I'm stumped.
I have preferences set to open external edits as tiff in photoshop cc.
When I right click a jpg & choose "edit" - it doesn't matter which of the 3 options I choose lightroom creates a second jpg and opens it in photoshop... when I make changes & go to exit - it brings up a save as box.... I can either hunt for the jpg & lose my photoshop data (end photo is right obviously) or save as psd/tiff but then I have to import it back into lightroom....
I just processed a whole bunch of mixed raw/jpg photos & I swear this worked for all of them. This is a jpg not a raw but that's the only difference & I am pretty sure I had jpg's in the last bunch I edited.
So frustrated!

I suggest trying the simplest fix first, which is to close all applications, shut down your system OS. Restart the system, reopen LR and PS, and try it again.
If the problem persists reset LR's Preferences file. Rename it 'com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist.OLD' instead of deleting the file.

If still no change try resetting PS's Preferences file by renaming the same as suggested above 'Adobe Photoshop CC Prefs.psp.OLD.'

You can easily restore both original Preferences file if the issue isn't fixed by deleting the new file and removing .OLD from the original file.

Issue with Add/Edit screen list values

Hi,
I have a requirement in ADF application to list down one table as initial screen. From that screen I can go to add screen or edit screen.
Currently in adding screen, I am collecting all the data to a backing bean and finally when save is clicked i am transferring value to View programmatically.
In my add screen i have some fields in list. Some of them are master details list also. They are independent LOV bindings.
Currently while saving I can access all the values from backing bean, But for list fields I am getting index values only. Due to that I have mapped corresponding attributeValues to get its primary key to save.
But when i go to edit screen, how to i get and map this index value back to list so that it will show proper value selected, exactly like how it was showing on add screen?

You may consider the below suggestion which needs no manual coding for creating new record as opposed to your current way of collecting data into bean and transferring value to view and then saving it.
a. In add screen page, drop the view object from the data control as ADF Form without navigation buttons
b. As you want the creation form when the page is loaded, add createInsert method binding to the pagedef and then add invokeAction executable binding to createInsert with refresh mode as renderModel(you can specify refreshCondition too if you want to provide any)
c. Add Commit as button

InDesign issue with Illustrator files

Hello
I used CS3 without any issue until a few months ago.
Using CS6 on Mac now I have some problems importing Illustrator files into InDesign. When I export to pdf or jpg they became transparent or invisible.
Please take a look, this is the exported file (pdf or jpg are the same):

For the pdf I use the Gent PDF Workgroup - 2005 Specification Version 3.

Quality issue with importing edited audio from Adobe Audition CS6 to Articulate 09

I have edited an audio file using Adobe Audition CS6 and the playback sounds fine. I then import the edited file into Articulate'09 and the audio sounds horrible, very tinny and not useable. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue? I have tried saving the audio files as mp3 and wav to see if that would help and it did not make a difference.

I checked - it certainly supports both formats, but you'd have to be a lot more specific about what's wrong, because 'sounds horrible' doesn't convey anything meaningful at all, I'm afraid. And we have no idea of the format you are using - it's very possible that if it's being resampled on the way in by the operating system. If that's the case you have to find out specifically what formats (in terms of bit depth and sample rate) that this software actually supports.
Bottom line is that I'm afraid that this isn't very likely to be an Audition problem at all - you may get a more detailed and meaningful response from Articulate themselves.

Issues with checkout for a DC files

I am facing a problem while checking out a particular DC's files .When i trying to checkout a view called "ImplementationView" it asks for an activity .When I create a new activity it shows checking out files and then shows an error :

then i selected "OK" and went to properties of the file and removed the check for "read only" and checked "Derived".Then it allowed me to do changes .I then checked in and activated the activity and it got activitated succesfully, also the activity exist in JDI .
This same process is followed by a collegue to checkout another file in same DC .This activity was also successfully checked in and activity with no errors .
Now when we sync the code we are not able to see each others changes in those files but can only see our indiviual changes made in respective file .In short we cannot see all the changes done in these both activities together at one place.
We have tried to sync, remove the project,remove the track ,re-create this project but none of these has worked .After creating a new project we were unable to see any of our changes .I am unable to locate the problem .Please do help as soon as possible .

As you manually removed the read only flag it will allowed you to make changes. but it wont go into DTR.
If the corrsopnding file is mentioned in activity as checked out, only then when you activate it DTR pick up that file from NWDS and then changes go into DTR.
As in you activity you didn't mentioned your file, those changes wont get into DTR.
now you can do one thing, create one activity and just checked out that file. and when you activate it your changes will be reflected. Till dont sync your project.. or then you have to make changes again
And dont remove read only flag manually. check the reason for this error.

Issue with importing & editing mini DVDs

We used a Sony mini DVD camcorder 2000-2005. I have about 25 discs that I converted into AVI format which obviously iMovie does not support. I have used Toast Titanium as well as several other programs to convert files to m4v, mp4, mov, dv. Some don't show up in iMovie which I assume means they aren't supported. Other however will import into iMovie events but the video is all 1 clip and the option to split them is not available. Does anyone have suggestions on what format to convert AVI to so that I split the events in iMovie and then make projects out of each of them?

I would suggest using a free app called MPEG Streamclip, from Squared 5.
With MPEG Streamclip, you can drag your long clip in. Then you can move the play head to where you want your shorter clip to start, and press I - for In Point. Then move the playhead to where you want your shorter clip to end and press O - for Out Point. Then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec for highest quality, or choose h.264 for smallest file. Give it a name, and then repeat until you have made all the short clips you need from the long clip. You can then import these into an iMovie Event using FILE/IMPORT MOVIE.

Creating a PDF with an editable section InDesign

I have created In design documents which i would like to dsitribute to contacts in a PDF format (they dont have indesign software) with an editable field for them to add their contact details. ...tell me this is possible pelase and how!

At the risk of going into Acrobat forum territory I would add two important points:
1) If, after you created the form, you want to make changes in the original InDesign document, you need to use the Replace command in Acrobat so you don't have to redo the whole form again.
2) When you have finalised the form you need to save the PDF in (Acrobat X) as: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features. Then users with only Acrobat Reader will be able to both fill in the form, print it and save it.
The forms can be emailed as attachments, put on a CD, whatever. You can add print and save buttons to the form - all kinds of things.
(As usual, Lynda.com has tutorials on Acrobat forms and for those in the UK, Certitec.com has excellent specialised personal training on Acrobat forms.)

InCopy/Indesign workflow issues

I have an InCopy/Indesign collab workflow question.
Myself (designer) and a colleague (writer) are trialling using InCopy 6 with InDesign CS5.5. There seems to be issues with the InDesign document refreshing once the writer has made changes using InCopy, and vice versa. We are working on the same server. .icml files don't seem to give alerts in InDesign that they need to be updated.
Can anyone see any reasons why this may be happening?

What do you mean you don't get alerts?
When the InDesign document has been edited and saved using InCopy, the text box links (.icml files) that were edited should automatically appear as out-of-date in the links panel when it is next opened in InDesign, just as other links are displayed when they have been edited. But this doesn't happen, and I then have to manually update them to make sure they are the latest version of the link.
Any thoughts? Could this all just boil down to using the same version of software?

Screen display issue with InDesign CS4 (Windows)

I just upgraded from CS2 to CS4. I can open and use InDesign with no problems, until I try to switch to another application. Then, when I try to go back to InDesign, all I can see is the portion of the bar at the top of the screen that shows the link to Bridge, the view options and a bit of the outline of a palette or two. I have a two monitor setup. Most of the palettes are on the auxillary monitor and they show up just fine. The main display is where I'm having the issue. I can toggle in and out of Photoshop with no display issues. I haven't tried working with anything else from the CS4 package besides InD and Photoshop. This was not an issue with any CS2 product (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, InDesign, Photoshop, Flash). Nor has it been an issue with any of the other software I am running (so far).
When the display vanishes, I can see the "data" from the program I was trying to toggle out of. For example, if I try to toggle between this page and InD right now, I can see most of this page except for the part of the page obscured by the outline of the control palette (that one reminiscent of pagemaker) and the little bits at the top. I can't see the project I'm working on. I can't see the File/Edit/etc. bar at the top of the page. A Control/Shift/Save will lock up the program completely. Then, I see the "save as" menu box (in addition to the browser screen around it) but the program is locked up. I can close everything on the computer and reboot and open InDesign to resume work--that is until I need to do something like edit a photo to drop into a layout. Then the issue occurs all over again.
Windows machine; XP Pro, service pack 3 build 2600; NVidea GeForce 9600 GT graphics card.

Bob, thanks for the info about the 6.0.2 patch. I'll try grabbing that today. This morning, on the first boot, I can't even see the program when I open it--just the snip of the command palette and part of the very top bar. Very irritating.
Peter, I have tried maximizing, closing, reopening, etc. everything else I can think of. Same issue. I finally just bit the bullet and went back to CS2, rebuilding the current project so I can get the work done by deadline. I'll look for new video drivers this afternoon after I get back on track timewise on this newsletter. Weird that this display issue should just affect the one Adobe program though, and not the others if it is a video driver problem. I didn't do a lot of work in Dreamweaver--just enough to see if it displayed the same weird behaviour. Nope. Nor does Photoshop. Nor does Bridge. Nor does Acrobat. nor does any other software on the machine.

InCopy CS4 ok with InDesign CS5.5?

I work at a small newspaper using all Macs and CS4. The writers use InCopy as their word processor, and the designer links their IC files in her ID document. Sometimes an IC linked file will require further editing in IC, but they never use IC to open an ID document.
We want to upgrade the designer and copy editors (who all use InDesign) to CS5.5. I'm wondering if we can squeeze another year out of the writers' PPC Macs, which will not run IC CS5.5, by having them stay on IC CS4. Having to upgrade 15 Macs will be pricy.
I've seen several questions here about using InCopy CS5.5 with older versions of InDesign, but not the other way around. Can InCopy CS4 be used with InDesign CS5.5 in the workflow I have described?
Related question: if InCopy CS5.5 opens an InCopy CS4 doocument, does that change the document so that it can't be opened in InCopy CS4 again? (in case we upgrade the writers incrementally).

Just bite the bullet and upgrade everyone. Sometimes the cost for doing something is way less than it is for not doing something.

Focus issue with CardLayout (Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition 1.4.0_01)

I am having an issue with focus and CardLayout with Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition 1.4.0_01. I have created a small sample application to illustrate my problem. In general, I am trying to create a "Wizard" that the user will enter information and then press a "Next" button to proceed to the next step.
When the first card is displayed, the focus is on the first text field as expected.
When I go to the next card by clicking "Next", the focus is not on the text field that has requested it (through the requestFocusInWindow method). The focus is on the "Cancel" button, which is the next component to receive focus after the "Next" button on that panel. I do notice that if I use my mouse to bring focus to the window the text field will gain focus.
Similarly, when I proceed to the last card, the focus is not on the "Finish" button until the mouse moves over the window.
Is there something I am doing wrong or is there a bug with focus and CardLayout?
One other problem I have noticed is that the buttons no longer respond to the "Enter" key press and instead respond to the space bar. Any suggestions as to why this is the case?

Thanks for your reply. I tried requestFocus() and it gives the same results. Also Sun's 1.4.0 API (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/api/) mentions the following with respect to the requestFocus() method in the JComponent class:
Because the focus behavior of this method is platform-dependent, developers are strongly encouraged to use requestFocusInWindow when possible.
That is why I used requestFocusInWindow.
