InCopy layout view different with original InDesign

Hi, we are using InCopy CC 2014 with InDesign CS6. The issue is that when viewing the document in InCopy Layout view, the size of the table cells and formatting is not identical to the view in InDesign, although when exporting to PDF the view is fine. Can anyone suggest how to fix this as it maybe an issue with InCopys viewing attributes. FYI, we are working with assignments by ICMA files.

BTW I've found that assignments occasionally have problems showing text wraps correctly.
My guess is that the story frame for "Making a High Tech Statement" sidebar actually extends to the bottom of the page, but the story continuation below the sidebar has a text wrap applied, pushing the sidebar text into position.
If you drag up the bottom of the sidebar text frame into the colored background area, save the file and save the assignment, that might fix it.
Also sometimes you need to *force* an assignment to be updated.  It won't show an out-of-date icon in the Assignment panel in InDesign, but you can still select it and choose Update Selected Assignment from the panel menu.
My guess is one or both of these actions will fix the problem.

  • My stories are displaying from highest to lowest in story view in Incopy but layout view displays correctly

My linked stories are named Note pg1, Note pg2, Note pg3, etc. but in InCopy in story view, they display as Note pg3, Note pg2, Note pg1 etc. In layout view they display correctly.
I need them to sort as 1, 2, 3, etc in story view.
    Please help!!

"Compatibility View" is a crutch for IE users, from the days when Microsoft thought they controlled the internet and had their own "standards".
You have some fixin' to do. All it might take is a tweak to the main CSS file, but it may take more than that. <br />

  • Can't see InDesign layout in InCopy layout mode

We have just installed CS6 and one issue I am having is I can't see the page design when switching to layout mode. I can see the formatting of the story, but not the page the InCopy document is associated with. All of this is on a Mac network. Is there something about InDesign that has to be associated with InCopy in order to see layout mode correctly?

  • Members of the team working with different version of indesign

Currently, all the members of DPS team in my company use Indesign 5.5.
Up to now, Our client sent the original indesign files of paper magazine in version 5.5 or lower format. So no problem until now.
The client want to add different magazine in DPS, so we got another bunch of Indesign files of different magazine. But we couldn't open any files because it was made from newer version of Indesign.
So we planned one memeber of the team to upgrade Indesign CC5.5 to CCT.
    Here is the question.
If member A uses Idesign version 5.5 and member B uses Indesign CC and they are making one magazine together, is there no problem at all?
    Thanks in advance.

@Chris – If you stay with InDesign CC producing the folio, you should have no trouble (other than changes in text composition).
If you want, for any reason, go back to InDesign CS5.5 through IDML, you could get into trouble:
1.1 Some CC features are not present in CS5.5
1.2 Text could flow differently according to changes in the text composition engines of the two versions
    2. ADPS in CC vs ADPS in CS5.5 might apply different properties (different inserted label names) to the overlays. That might mean that you will have to redo overlays in CS5.5 already finished in CC.
I'm uncertain about this particular point. You have to test that thoroughly…
And more: IDML will carry on the different labels (the overlay features applied to page items). You cannot clear them on an object level (other than editing the IDML or an exported IDMS). So if you do one part of the job (doing overlays) in CC, hand over the IDML to CS5.5, do some new overlays there and go back to CC, the overlays could get messed up a lot. (I cannot not test that scenario, but you should do…)
Maybe someone from Adobe could chime in and clarify #2.

  • Only source view, no layout view with PS web gallery.

I created a web photo gallery using CS3... When i view the pages in GL CS2 from the gallery, it only shows source code, no layout view.
Normally I wouldn't care, however, I have to add links to the jpgs.
Is there a way to fix this so I can work with it?

  • Creating View Object with different criteria

    Hi,
I have a requirement to execute the following queries in the application logic. We have YEAR table with mileage rates with different effective dates. If the service date is greater than any of the existing effective dates we need to get the rate with that effective date. if the service date is less than the existing effective dates, then we have to get the rate with least effective date.
    SELECT mileage_rate, ... FROM year
    WHERE eff_date =  (SELECT MAX(eff_date) FROM   year WHERE  eff_date <= :bServiceDate)
SELECT MILEAGE_RATE, .... FROM YEAR WHERE
    EFF_DATE =  (SELECT MIN(EFF_DATE) FROM YEAR)
We have to execute the 1st query and if there is no matching records then we have to take the second query with min effective date. At present we are creating two view objects for the above scenario. Is there any possibility to create one view object with different criteria. What is the best solution to handle the above problem in ADF.
    Thanks and Regards,
    S R Prasad

Well on the ViewObjectImpl you can fire the method getQueryHitCount() passing in the required ViewRowSetImpl. If you get the query hit count as 0, use can attached the other query and execute it.

  • InCopy Crashes when trying to open InDesign file.

InCopy just spins when trying to open an Indesign file and will eventualy cause InCopy to crash. When InCopy is then reopened the file will be recovered but the only tab available is layout view, both story view and gallery view are missing. The editor needs story view to make corrections.
The designer sets up the file with InDesign CS6 v. 8.0.1 on a mac w/osx v.10.7.5 the editor was using InCopy CS6 v.8.0.1 but has received new hardware and is on v8.0.2 windows 7. One of our Editors does receive this message Adobe InDesign is missing required files, Please reinstall.
We have upgraded editors hardware to allow more resorces.
Please advise what may be the cause.

Why would one of your editors receive a message about "Adobe InDesign is missing required files, please reinstall"? Aren't they using InCopy (not InDesign)?
Re the InCopy crashes, it sounds like the INDD file might be damaged. You can test this by having the InDesign user create a new test document and export one story to the workflow. See if the InCopy user can open that INDD file over the network, check out the test story, make a change, save it, check it back in, and then the InDesign user update the story on their end.

  • Export Layout view

    Hi
I know its a wrong place to Post this question but i could not get the answer from Incopy forum
How to print the layout view of a document. When it try to print or export a doument to PDF the story view is exported or printed. How to change it to Layout view.
Does anyone have the InCopy reference Guide. I could not find it anywhere in the Adobe Site.
    Thanks

Maybe you're not entirely clear in your terminology.
Story view? Layout view? For an InDesgin user it makes sense if you mean the Story Editor with the first, and your regular page view window with the second. However, that does not compute with your problem, which is (if I understand it correctly) that you export or print the
    i first
one; i.e., the Story View. That can't be done in the ID I have.
Perhaps it's an option in InCopy, as that is all text oriented (as opposed to Plain-InDesign), and probably not meant to be used in the way you describe. I recall that InCopy is designed to edit texts, while the actual layout work has to be done in ID.

  • Hyphenations turned off in InCopy allthough there turned on in InDesign, how is that possible?

Hello, we encountered a strange and annoying problem. After creating an InCopy 5.5 file with InDesign 5.5 and sending it by FTP server to an editor all of the hyphenations turned off, which results in a different view. WYS isn't WYG. The body text flows out het last textbox allthough i've made it fit perfectly. Anyone familiar with this problem?

No package for InCopy. We save our file on our local server in a destined folder ans use a FTP server for data exchange. We work with this editor for years, for different clients.
We both have the same versions (we InDesign 5.5 and she InCopy 5.5) and this happend all of a sudden.

  • All Content Not Viewing In Layout View

I just installed InCopy CS3 on a user's recent IBM ThinkPad and for some reason when viewing a document in layout view SOME pages are not displaying content. All text content displays fine in galley and story view? This is a fresh install. Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Danny

The strange thing is everything views fine on my 3 year old Dell. I have seen this issue on a virgin InCopy CS3 install on an old Dell desktop. Just attributed the issue to the age and lack of RAM on that workstation. The files were created on a Mac in InDesign CS3.
    Cheers,

  • InCopy Layout Mode not displaying correctly.

I have a layout that I (designer) have created in InDesign. I have created the assignments and packaged for InCopy, but when the editor gets the InCopy file the "Layout" view displays the layout incorrectly which throws off the text for the entire document making it illegible in Layout mode.
Has anyone else had this problem? or know of a fix?
I can provide the file if anyone thinks they can help me troubleshoot.

Jenny, this has happened to me in the past, and I was able to troubleshoot it to some corruption that came over from QXP (the layout was converted from an XPress layout). Apparently the INDD format is more forgiving than the INCA format when there are glitches.
Just throwing it out there ... I just needed to rejigger some paragraph styles in the INDD file to fix the problem, as I recall.

  • Stack with original has disappeared

I go to "edit in> photoshop elements 10> I get the pop up for "edit a copy with LR adjustment" or "Edit a copy" or "Edit original"
Also an arrow for file options "file format" ,"color space", "bit depth" and "resolution"  there is not a box anywhere for "stack with
original" there was one at one time, but it has disappeared.
Can anyone tell me how to get it back.
    thanks

Your pics ARE in a folder, the folder is the physical location where your pics are stored. A collection is a way of organizing your photos into different sets, while leaving them at their original folder location. A collection is just a different view onto your images (similar to Libraries in Win7).
If you want/need to stack the derivate files created for edit in PSE with their originals (which IMHO makes sense), I would do the following:
Select all the images in your collection (Ctrl-A while in the collection)
Assign some unique metadata field (starts, color label, keyword "proofs" ...) to all of them
    Switch to All Photographs
Use the metadata filter to filter on the metadata field assigned in step 2

  • "Web layout view" in latest Pages?

I write for magazines and frequently have multiple text windows open at a time — the document on which I'm working plus two or three others containing text from interviews or research. In Word I've used "Web Layout" view as I can re-scale and re-size the boxes but still see all of the text (or as much as I like) at one time. Just upgraded my ancient laptop and I'm considering switching to Pages but I don't see anything like this. A quick search reveals that past versions of Pages didn't allow for writing in this fashion (multiple windows, all scalable with all text in view at once). Has the latest added it somewhere? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for replying, PeterBreis0807.  I am talking about multiple windows of different documents, however...
As it currently stands in Pages (apparently) re-scaling a window doesn't affect the "page" within that window, so when I type the sentence, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog," and then make the window narrower, I can only see "The quick brown fox."
In Word's "Web Layout" the re-scaled window would simply push the remainder of the sentence down a line so that all text was still visible inside the narrower window.
Maybe there's a way to accomplish this with Pages? Again, I've never used the program so please forgive me if there's a simple button or something that will keep all text in a window and "zoomable" no matter the window's size.
    Thanks

  • MS Word 2010 will not display in Layout view

In a nutshell, Word appears to be not so much stuck in "Draft" view but will not show Print Layout view at all.  I am writing a manual which includes many embedded images, charts, and the like, so all of the editing has been done thus far in Layout
View.  At this point my project is effectively paralyzed; perhaps if I uninstall Word 2010 and return to a version that worked?

"GSHancock" wrote in message news:[email protected]...
Unfortunately the document is a section from an unpublished game manual, and falls under "sensitive" in its entirety. However, I will share this experiment with you; I deleted the entire manual's text and wrote a few lines, then saved the document. When
I loaded it again, it came up in Layout View... so the problem may lie somewhere in the formatting of one of the section breaks? Weirdest thing.
OK, I see why you can’t share the content. :-)
Your observation does suggest a formatting problem. Continuing on that idea, working with a copy on the original document of course, you could split the document in halves (via Save As); then see which half shows symptoms of the problem. Split the problem
document again, and again, until you have isolated the problem.
Alternatively, if you want a quicker fix, the following would be worth trying: Delete all section breaks and then copy the content, minus the final paragraph mark (¶), into a new document.
To show/hide nonprinting marks, including paragraph marks, click the ¶ button on the Home tab.

  • InCopy CS6 "Cannot Open File" from InDesign CC

I'm trying to review copy recently posted by my designer. I'm using InCopy CS6 and she recently upgraded to InDesign CC. We never had a problem before, but now I'm getting the following error:
I'm running Windows 8 and she's on a Mac (not sure which OS).
    Any thoughts?

For real? I can't believe that the latest version of the standalone InCopy can't play with InDesign CC. My designer is a contractor and just spent a lot of money to upgrade to CC, and my employer didn't want to pay for all of CC, so they just got me Incopy CS6.
