Incorrect bandwidth values via snmp?

I have two cat 2900 16 port switches, for some reason when i read the bandwidth utiliz. values via snmp (PRTG, and MRTG give same results) i only show a steady 1-1.5 kbps up and down flow with occasianal spikes of the upstream to 2 or 3kbps..this is the same across all ports, now if i send something across the switch, nothing changes, nor is any other traffic i throw at the switch reflected... the peculiar thing is if i access the switch's web interface while conducting a 10.5 mbit transfer across the switch, i will see a spike of correct values (as i read on the hosts machines) reported by the snmp agents but only for 2 or 3 reads across 5 second periods..then its back to what i described again.. I've done factory resets on both and both of these snmp agents correctly read the bandwidht values from my dell and intel switches so i've ruled the agents out..
any ideas?
thanks, joe

Thanks for the quick reply but thats not the problem. its not a units issue as i see somekind of traffic but when i'm maxing out the 100mbps port i see no change in the snmp reported graphs..but like i said i will see the actual values if i'm reloading or access the switches web interface.
this is such a weird issue..and its affecting two swithces that are the same model but from different places.
any ideas?

  • How to calculate value in SNMP performance rule?

    Hi there,
    My environment is running SCOM 2007 R2. Now I have a request to develop MP to monitor a network device which support SNMP. I successfully discovered the device. Then I created a performance rule using System.Performance.SNMPPerformanceProvider as data
    source to collect the bandwidth usage. However the value returned from SNMP query is bit per second. But we want it to display as MB per second.
    My rule is created as following
    1. a data source, with ID as "DS", is created using System.Performance.SNMPPerformanceProvider to query performance data via SNMP
    2. the data is write into DW
    I just need to divide the value returned from "DS" before write it into DW. Can any components under "Condition Detection" can be used to manipulate the data?
    Or any other tricks?
    Thanks!

    I reviewed the thread, and I believe there are 2 questions here:
     - the questions regarding the units in bit per second
    out of the box, SCOM will be unable to modify the data. In other words, you get the value, then that value is shown in the console. There may be ways to achieve what you are looking for, but out of the box I dont see that this is doable.
     - the questions regarding the output of the script
    I am by no means a scripting person, but the error seems to be an issue with the script itself ("The requested SNMP operation identified an unknown variable" maybe a problem with the variable definition?). if you believe that is unrelated, the
    only troubleshooting step that I can think of as a quick test is to run this with psexec as localsystem (as SCOM runs the workflows) and see if you are getting the same result. On an elevated command prompt, type PSEXEC -i -s -d CMD then that would open a
    new command prompt window as localsystem.

  • Incorrect data value selected when clicking on slicer entry in Excel Services

    We have uploaded various Excel 2013 files containing pivot tables to Sharepoint 2013 and viewed the pivot tables in a browser. The referenced pivot table data is normally a SSAS tabular model. This has been working fine for over 12 months apart
    from one irritating feature.
    Sometimes a clicked slicer entry does not result in the correct slicer value being selected. This typically occurs after using the mouse scroll button to scroll down a list of entries in a slicer. When using the keyboard arrow keys to highlight a slicer
    value and pressing Return to select an entry, the correct value does always seem to be selected - so it appears to point to a mouse scrollwheel issue. Also, after scrolling through slicer entries using the mouse scroll wheel, there appears to be some sort
    of slicer refresh problem that results in a blank entry/entries being displayed either at the top or bottom of a slicer. However, sometimes the correct 'tooltip' is shown for this blank slicer entry. One other point - when using the slicer scrollbar the scroll
    down a list of slicer entries using Firefox, the problem does not seem to occur. IE does not seem to display the same type of slicer scrollbars (only active when the mouse hovers over the slicer) and so this is more difficult to replicate in Ie.
    The worrying factor is that the user is often unaware that the incorrect slicer value has been selected. The problem can be replicated in both IE11 and Firefox. Also our client systems accessed via Citrix display the same problems.
    Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Graham,
    i built the same version, please correct me if should your environment, is sharepoint 2013 with march 2013 update and your office also the same update. in my labbox seems the issue is not re-producible.
    after some discussion with my colleague, seems there was issue similar like this back in 2010 Excel and the remedy is to update the excel services and to re-install the power pivot at SQL server. back then the issue is because when we scroll the selection,
    it should be locked, so then when we scroll it may have the position to update and refresh the data. one of the workaround is by clicking the item and press enter, by doing this it will refresh the page correctly. the link was:http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29074
    i tried to look at our update for the excel services 2013, there are updates in every cumulative updates but there is no particlular update regarding this issue, perhaps you may try this to check in your development environment, if should it may fix the
    issue.
    to re-install the power pivot, you may need to do this on your sql side.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210708.aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210671.aspxi may suggest you to check the ULS log, if should there are issues with powerpivot also, to make sure if should there are no issue
    regarding power pivot. if there is no issues on the powerpivot, then you may need to open a ticket to report this issue, so that we can have a detailed checking to your environment remotely.

  • Port counters via snmp on WRVS4400N

    Hi.
    I'm using SNMP to read the packet and byte counters on each port on my WRVS4400N. However, I just can't figure out what interface is what port. Also, can I see the total traffic on all ports together as well as the wireless traffic via snmp, which I can see in the web admin interface?
    An snmpwalk gives me the following interfaces:
    IF-MIB::ifDescr.1 lo
    IF-MIB::ifDescr.2 eth0
    IF-MIB::ifDescr.3 eth1
    IF-MIB::ifDescr.4 eth2

    IF-MIB::ifDescr.11 ipsec2
    IF-MIB::ifDescr.12 ipsec3
    IF-MIB::ifDescr.13 br0
    I have equipment connected to LAN port 1, 2 and 4 as well as wifi clients. And on the WAN port of course. This is what I get in terms of traffic via snmp (only listing ifInOctets here)
    IF-MIB::ifInOctets.1 13454252

    The RFC1213 Management Information Base for Network Management of TCP/IP-based internets: MIB-II describe the ifDescr value as:
    ifDescr OBJECT-TYPE
                  SYNTAX  DisplayString (SIZE (0..255))
                  ACCESS  read-only
                  STATUS  mandatory
                  DESCRIPTION
                          "A textual string containing information about the interface.  This string should include the name of the manufacturer, the product name and the version of the hardware interface."
    There is no standard values for the interface description and you will have to guess from the given name and device caractheristic.
    You can also check the OID .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.3 ifType that can give you a better idea about what it is.
    From what you sent we can guess that:
    eth0-2 are three Ethernet Interface. But where is the 4th Ethernet interface? Probably it has another name
    telq0 should be a load balancing or agregating virtual interface, I guess used for the QoS supported by the router
    ipsec0-3 maybe the virtual interface for the ipsec traffic
    tunl0 probably the VPN virtual interface
    For the reste... you will have to dig a little

  • Reporting bit/second sent and recieved on a switch interface via SNMP/SYSLOG

    Hi.
    In a Catalyst switch, under the command: show interface fast 1/0/1 (for example) there is a parameter "5 minute input rate YY bits/sec".
    Is it possible to send this value to a SNMP server or to a SYSLOG server?
    Danny.

    here are 2 good basic documents on this topic:
    "How To Calculate Bandwidth Utilization Using SNMP"
    SNMP Counters: Frequently Asked Questions
    Basicly, what you have to do is, to poll the ifHCInOctets and ifHCOutOctets (from the IF-MIB (ifXTable) - e.g ifHCInOctets = .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.6.)
    and do some calculation to get bps. This thread gives a good example.
    there are 2 Mib objects, which gives directly what you want, but they are deprecated and have 32-bit counters, so they are not of practical use for highspeed (Gig) interfaces:
        locIfInBitsSec      1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.2.1.1.6
        locIfOutBitsSec     1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.2.1.1.8
    Typically you will poll these values with snmp instead of sending them; (for 64-bi counters (ifHCInOctets) you 'll have to use snmpv2c or snmpv3)

  • Shutdown wireless interface via SNMP Write?

  • MDS9216 & MDS9124 Fabric Switches interface stats. via SNMP

    Dear All,
    I am interested in monitoring the interface statistics (In/Out bytes) of MDS9216 & MDS9124 Fabric Switches via SNMP and have been researching on what OID (MIB) values shall i poll? Would anyone be able to help me please? I have looked at many places but the closest I could get is the IF-MIB MIB Interface which has ifTable giving ifInOctets and ifOutOctest per port !  I am not sure if this is what i am suppose to poll as the ifInOctets gives 'the total number of octets recieved on the interface' and not the traffic ? What i am interested in is knowing the traffic (rx / tx) on the port at the time of polling so i can poll them say every 5 min. and plot them via something like cacti.
    Please let me know if any one has got any suggestion as I am not getting anywhere on this.
    Thanks in advance.

    not sure if that will give you what you need.  We use solarwinds to monitor our MDS's.

  • Polling port-profile max-ports via snmp

    Team,
    We have been caught out by the default setting of max-ports=32 in our cloud environment. Our processes dictate that we cannot simply go and change this setting across all customers so instead we need to monitor the setting for any customers geting clsoe to 32.
    Can someone tell me if there's an oid to query port-profile information via snmp for a Nexus 1000V?
    I've done some simple searching and couldn't find it.
    Failing that, do we have to execute a script to login and do a show run?

  • Graphing via SNMP: percentagememoryusedaftergc

    I'm using RTMT to graph CCX Engine JVM Heap: percentagememoryusedaftergc
    Is this same counter available via SNMP?  If so, do you know the OID?  I'd like to monitor it via our SNMP graphing software rather than RTMT.
    Thanks

    Did you find if these counters are available via SNMP?  I just use RTMT performance logging to trend these values.  Also, I don't look at the "aftergc" counter, but rather, the "max" and "used" counters.  By grabbing both of these, I can produce a nice chart which shows a ceiling, a value, and their relationship.
    Just for fun, here's two different systems (the dashed lines) and how the JVM heap gets used and reclaimed throughout a four hour period of the day.  These two systems are on 8.5(1) with 256MB of JVM available to them.  Again, had I not had the "max" counter logging, you wouldn't be able to tell if this was from a 256MB or 512MB system.  Of course, if the values were floating above 256MB, you could reasonably assume the opposite.

  • Password recovery via SNMP

    Hi
    Has anybody ever tried resetting a vty or the enable secret password via SNMP?  I've read that there is something you can do with pullling back the running-config and comparing it to startup-config....via snmp assuming you know the RW Community-string.
    But I was sure there was another method available whereby you could (if you knew snmp community-name) reset the passwords remotely using snmp?
    Regards
    Mary

    Hello Mary,
    This is the example I have for you:
    We need to make is to create a new ROW in the device within the ccCopyTable Mib, where all the values are going to be stored in order to replace the line we want in the configuration:
    The procedure to recover password via snmp only, instead of referencing a file with an entire configuration the contents of the file would be
    simply the password information that you want to change to.  It won't leave you with a one line config.  It will just overwrite the one line
    that is in your current running config.  The rest should stay the same.
    For example, create a .txt file with just these 2 lines in the TFTP boot directory of your TFTP application:
    enable password newpass
    end
    *** Note: the end statement is totally necessary.
    Step 1 (Creating the Row).
    ================================
    Please look into MIB ccCopyEntryRowStatus
    snmpset  -v  2c  -c  private  10.10.10.2  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.96.1.1.1.1.14.222  i  5
    NOTE: var_type is "i" for Interger
    Value is 5 for createAndWait
    In the MIB the last .222 is the entry index in the table. If the row is occupied then please destroy it first and try to create it and wait again.
    Step 2 (Setting the protocol).
    ================================
    We are going to use TFTP to transfer the device configuration with the OID ccCopyProtocol.
    Please look into MIB ccCopyProtocol
    snmpset  -v  2c  -c  private  10.10.10.2 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.96.1.1.1.1.2.222  i  1
    NOTE: Value is 1 for tftp
    Step 3 (Specifying  the Source).
    ================================
    We are going to specify that what we want to copy is the file in your PC.
    Please look into MIB ccCopySourceFileType
    snmpset  -v  2c  -c  private  10.10.10.2  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.96.1.1.1.1.3.222  i  1
    NOTE: Value is 1 for networkFile
    Step 4 (Specifying the Destination).
    ================================
    Once we have specified the Source, we need to tell what would be the destination to where
    we are copying the file.
    Please look into MIB ccCopyDestFileType
    snmpset  -v  2c  -c  private  10.10.10.2  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.96.1.1.1.1.4.222  i  4
    NOTE: Value is 4 for runningConfig
    Step 5 (TFTP Server's Address).
    ================================
    Let's now setup the IP address of the server where the TFTP service is currently running and where the configuration is going to get copied.
    Please look into MIB ccCopyServerAddress
    snmpset  -v  2c  -c  private  10.10.10.2  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.96.1.1.1.1.5.222  a
    NOTE: var_type is "a" for IP address
    Value is the TFTP server's IP address
    Step 6 (Specifying the File name in the TFTP Server).
    ================================
    Now, we need to tell the name of the file where the data is going to be sent to or stored (the one you create with the 2 lines).
    Please look into MIB ccCopyFileName
    snmpset  -v  2c  -c  private  10.10.10.2  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.96.1.1.1.1.6.222  s
    NOTE: var_type is "s" for Display String. Sometimes the name could need " "
    Value is the file name in the TFTP boot previously created with full privileges
    Step 7 (Deploy the settings and run it).
    ================================
    Last thing is deploying the settings so the config archive takes place. Before activating the row 222,  we must double-check that the TFTP service is up and running.
    Is the service running?
    If yes, then activate the row with the following snmpset.
    Please look into MIB ccCopyEntryRowStatus
    snmpset  -v  2c  -c  private  10.10.10.2  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.96.1.1.1.1.14.222 i 1
    NOTE: Value is 1 for active.
    Step 8 (Check the results).
    ================================
    Check if the transfer was successful.
    do a snmpwalk to 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.96.1.1.1.1.10.222
    Results:
    1:waiting
    2:running
    3:successful
    4:failed
    Step 9.(Try to access the device).
    ================================
    This should be more than enough to change an specific line in the configuration using SNMP.
    I hope this answered your question.
    Best Regards,
    Angel V.

  • Finding bandwidth value

    Hi all
    I am very interested in finding the bandwidth value of the network, at some point during my application
    Does anybody know how? Any suggestions are welcome
    Thank you

    I am developing a QoS application and I am interested
    to find your number 3 :) and the network load at a
    given time, so that I can adapt transmission rates for
    a sending stream.This may be complicated for you. Is there a service on each node of your network (non SNMP/ICMP) that you can iteratively query, like a HTTP server on a set of nodes whereby you can approximate the general throughput. You of course introduce load on the network by so doing this.

    Hi
    Pleae check if you have initialised with a NULL value . "blank/null" is indeed not a valid characteristic value for fiscal period. Fisc.per is of type NUMC which means all characters have to be numerical. The initial value should be "0000000" .

  • Interface errors (crc, in/output, collisions etc.) via snmp

    Hi,
    I'm trying to understand how to get interface errors via SNMP.  I do get stats via SNMP for ifInErrors / ifOutErrors etc, but I'm trying to get output via SNMP for the errors visible via the 'sh int x' command - CRC errors, input / output errors, collisions, runts. giants etc.).
    1) The SNMP ifInError / ifOutError seems to give an overall counter of all errors from the time the device has started - Am I correct about this?
    2) Is there any way I can get the interface-specific errors noted above via SNMP?
    Thanks,
    Mario

    Depends on the device and version of code, but most likely you will get what you want from the CISCO-IF-EXTENSION-MIB.  Look at objects like cieIfInRuntsErrs, cieIfInGiantsErrs, and cieIfInFramingErrs.  You will also get some ethernet-specific errors from the ETHERLIKE-MIB.
