Incorrect bookmark is highlighted

This post relates to Acrobat 9.1.2. Pro on Windows XP sp3.
When jumping to a page by clicking a Link on another page, the correct page is displayed in the Document Pane, but somtimes the incorrect (next-following) Bookmark is highlighted in the Bookmarks Panel.
It seems that when the next-following page is an image only then the correct Bookmark is highlighted in the Bookmarks Panel, but when the next-following page is text then the incorrect (next-following) Bookmark is highlighted in the Bookmarks Panel.
For example, suppose page 25 is an image, page 26 is text, and page 27 is an image.  When clicking an index Link to page 25, page 25 is then correctly displayed in the Document Pane but the Bookmark for page 26 is incorrectly highlighted in the Bookmarks Panel.  However, when clicking an index Link to page 26, page 26 is then correctly displayed in the Document Pane and the Bookmark for page 26 is correctly highlighted in the Bookmarks Panel.
The Bookmarks themselves work correctly when clicked.  The Bookmark highlighting error happens only when Links to Bookmarked pages are clicked.
Does anyone know what is causing this problem and how to solve it?
Thanks!

If you created your PDF from WORD, it is likely that you did not have the printer selected when you set the bookmarks and the result was that the reflow in word messed up your bookmarks. Before I get hit again, you have two choices in such a case: 1. select the Adobe PDF printer in the printer menu, then ctrl-A (to mark all), and F9 to update the bookmarks. Now create the PDF. 2. Based on SDA's comment, you can change the preferences in WORD to ignore the printer registration (or not reflow based on printer).

  • Acrobat 8 / Incorrect Bookmark Font

When I create bookmarks in Acrobat 8, the bookmark font defaults to an Asian font -- one of the Apple-provided system fonts originally installed. See screenshot below:
I'm creating the bookmark by highlighting words using the text-selection cursor and then Command+B.
What's interesting is that if I type right over the bookmark that I just created, it converts to an English font.
I have to bookmark eight very long manuals with a total of about 2000 bookmarks. I can't sit and retype each bookmark after I create it so that they all display in English.
I can't find any way to control the default bookmark font.
Anyone have any idea what's going on, and what I can do to correct it? I believe that uninstalling all Asian-language fonts isn't an optoin as they are required by the system, as that's how the system software was originally installed.
Thanks for any advice or suggestions you can offer.
    Laurie

I never got this figured out. I had to manually type every single entry to change it from the Asian font to English.
At least now I know that I'm not the only one dealing with this bug. It's too bad no one else has been able to offer a solution.

  • Does Adobe Viewer on iPad support Search, Bookmark and Highlight Text?

I would like to know if the Adobe Viewer for the iPad support the Search, Bookmark and Highlight Text features.... Or if some of these features are planned to be developed later and when.
    Thanks for your quick answer.

Not yet. Those features are on the roadmap, but I can't offer an estimated time.

  • Notes, bookmarks and highlights sync to iTunes?

Are the notes, bookmarks, and highlights I make in iBooks on my iPad/iPhone also synced to my Mac/iTunes? The reason I ask is that if I need to delete a book from iBooks on my iPad or iPhone, I would like for those notes, bookmarks, and highlights to be archived somewhere so that if I reinstall a book back on my iOS device in the future all my notes, bookmarks, and highlights would reinstall with it.

Restore, if iTunes will let you.  Everything except the password will be restored.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  Be forewarned that it takes a long time.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Acrobat 8 Pro, Incorrect Bookmark Font (Asian)

Somehow when I try to bookmark a PDF in English, the bookmark uses the incorrect font (Asian) even the I've told the
Adobe Preferences that the document is English.  Any ideas how to correct this super aggravating problem. There
was another post on this same problem but no reply. I am doing research and need to bookmark scientific journals.

  • Current bookmark not highlighted

When I create a PDF from a Word 2007 document and select Highlight Current Bookmark under Options in the bookmark panel, not all the resulting bookmark icons are highlighted as I move from page to page.
For instance, if I use the arrow button at the top of the PDF window to advance to a page with 3 headings, only the first heading on that page will cause the bookmark icon to be highlighted in the bookmarks panel, which is the way it's supposed to work. But if I again use the arrow button to go to the next page with multiple headings, sometimes none of the bookmark icons will be highlighted. Sometimes the second or third will be highlighted, not the first one as I would expect. On some pages, everything is fine; this seems to be a random occurrance.
I've checked the headings in the Word doc to make sure they're tagged correctly, so I don't think that is the problem. When I click through the bookmark icons one by one, they highlight in the bookmarks panel and go to the correct page, so that part is working correctly.
What could be causing certain bookmark icons to not be highlighted?

I've found a solution to this problem that has been bugging me for months. As others have reported, the "today" highlight in iCal had disappeared. I also noticed a similar problem when using Gmail. Gmail highlights read mail with a blue background on the mail item in the main list. This also disappeared. Strangely, I would see both of these highlights reappear for a moment when I did fast user-switching to a different account. Just before the Mac would switch to another account, the screen would darken and those highlights would appear. This seemed to indicate that the problem wasn't with the applications but rather with the system.
Here's how I fixed this: I went to the Display system preferences. I selected the Color tab. THe display profile was Cinema Display. I selected another profile (in my case I chose Adobe RGB (1998)). Immediately, the missing highlights reappeared. I then reselected Cinema Display and the highlights remained (although slightly lighter).
Somehow, the display profile got changed enough to wash out those light blue highlights, but switching profiles brought them back.
This worked for me on my Apple Cinema LCD display. I don't know if this will work on another brand LCD display or on a CRT. But at least I've found a way to bring these highlights back. I'll be curious if this solves anyone else's problem.

  • Bookmarks not highlighting or saving the place! Can't see the page?

I created an EPUB book and it loaded and worked great in iBooks. I could created bookmarks, too, which worked really well.
But somehow now, after several bookmarks, it has stopped working. Everytime I open the book, it starts at the beginning.
When I select and tap "Bookmark", nothing seems to happen...no colored highlighting, and the selection deselects. Though it DOES copy the selected Text to the bookmarks page, visiting there and tapping the bookmark takes me to page one of the book instead! very odd.
Note that I used Calibre to make my ePub.
Anyone else seeing Eire bookmark behaviors?

I went back into Calibre and re-encoded the epub files and I selected "No SVG Cover" & "No Default Cover" under "EPUB Output" and also "Do not add detected chapters to the Table of Contents" under "Table of Contents". Try that and see if it'll work then.

  • Just bought a new iPad, and my highlights and bookmarks will not sync to it through iBooks.

Hey, I just bought the third-generation iPad. I have been reading on the iPad 2 for a year now, and have hundreds of books in my library. Because I'm such an intense reader, and value my highlights, it upset me when I bought the new iPad, synced it to iTunes, and then highlights and bookmarks were not transferred to the new iPad. The books were all out of order when they synced, and I had to rearrange them, but they were in the correct collections. This was my first hint that something was wrong. Next, when I opened my books, I could not find a single highlight in any of them. I checked all the books on my iPad 2 and they're fine as usual, everything is how I left it, including my bookmarks and highlights, and I even went into settings and made sure sync bookmarks was on on both iPads. I am completely confused and frustrated. I even put my new iPad into DFU mode and tried to re-sync everything, nothing is working. They just won't sync. Could someone please help me out, this means a lot to me. Also: is anyone noticing that the multitouch is slightly off with the new iPad? I'll go to tap dictation or drag an icon to another page, and it's just not that responsive. a few times I have clicked the dictation button but I gotten a space in instead. It seems you just have to press harder almost. Lastly, my 30 pin seems to be a little tight. I put a standard 30 pin sync cord that came with my original iPad 2 and iPhone 4 into the 30 pin and I almost had to jam it into the 30 pin slot. I work with iDevices all day long and have never had one that needed to be jammed in before. It doesn't seem good for the iPad. Yes, I am borderline about to return it, but the screen just looks so much clearer, I can't go back to my iPad 2. Wow, again I pressed the dictation button and the spacebar activated instead. If anyone can figure out this whole iBook situation so I can get my bookmarks and my highlights back, I would really appreciate it!

I also tried manually underlining a few things on the new iPad and when highlighting a paragraph, it would skip a few lines and the line would go through a few as well. Looks like a major iBooks glitch needs to be addressed here.

  • After clicking on a bookmark it does not remain highlighted. it did this in 3.3 which made running through a list of bookmarks easier. I can make the highlight re-appear by clicking on the bookmarks box , not the x obviously!

In 3.3 if i clicked on a bookmark item, either to open in current tab or to open in new tab, the bookmark was highlighted with a blue bar. If I then backed out or closed the tab, the bookmark item would remain highlighted until I selected a new bookmark item. This made searching through bookmarks easy as I always knew the last item I had tried.
In 3.6 the bookmark highlight disappears as soon as it is loaded, again either in current or new tab. However it can be made to re-appear by clicking on the little box above the bookmarks that contains the word 'bookmarks' and the 'x'

Update - I discovered that the entire list of bookmarks can be accessed in the Organize Bookmarks window by clicking on the icon for Bookmarks Menu.
This seem like odd interface behaviour to me.
All the other software I use follows the pattern that an icon with a triangle to the left, which you click on to expand the menu tree downwards, shows the entire contents of the category when you click on the triangle. In other words, you don't get a different response by clicking on the icon from what you get by clicking on the triangle.
It also seems odd to me that when an unsorted bookmarks folder is automatically provided that unsorted bookmarks would not be placed there by default.
Anyway, by getting the list of bookmarks displayed this way I was able to simply right-click on items in the list and delete them, as I thought I should be able to do. Problem solved. Organize Bookmarks interface found to be somewhat unintuitive.

  • How do I delete an individual bookmark from the firefox brorser on a macbook pro?

I have accidentally bookmarked the same site twice on my mac & when I went to delete one of them I found difficulty in doing so right clicking wouldn't remove it ,so guess I don't know how to do this.

If you bookmarked page accidentally by clicking on "star" in address bar you can delete it by clicking that star again and selecting "delete bookmark".
If you have more bookmarks of the same page just go to Bookmarks => Show all bookmarks and search for duplicated ones. If you find one - use right click (or long click) to show context menu and select delete option.
If you have problems with context menu, just click on bookmark to highlight it, and use "delete" key to make it dissappear :)

  • Acrobat Pro 7 quits when creating bookmarks

I can only go up to Acrobat 7 on my Mac unless I upgrade from OS 10.3.9. PDFs create fine. Create bookmark by highlighting text and hit command-b. Repeat a few times. Save document and Acrobat quits. Original document is Word 2004 for Mac 11.5.0. I suspect Acrobat doesn't like the hidden TOC data in the headings I am using for bookmarks. BUT, this never happened with Distiller 4.0, the last version I used extensively. Anybody got a fix? I have a 1GHz G4 eMac with 768MB ram.

Evidently I mispoke, it works on 10.4. I thought I had been using it on X.3.9.Because I have one hard drive  that use X.3.9. Ther are some updates to 7.0 though. Make sure you your using the most up to date version.  Sorry for misleading you.

  • When deleting bookmarks from Firefox, why does the program respond differently on similar installs to different computers all running OS X?

    On the subject of bookmarks...
The following procedure works for deleting bookmarks on my MacBook Pro, my iMac, and my Mac mini...
If the bookmark is itself a tab on the toolbar, right click on it and select delete by highlighting delete in the drop down menu that appears.
The following procedure works for deleting bookmarks on my MacBook Pro, but not my iMac or Mac mini...
If the toolbar tab is actually a folder containing bookmarks and possibly more folders, left click on the toolbar tab to open a drop down menu of other bookmarks/folders, highlight the one you want to delete, then right click on it and select delete by highlighting delete in the drop down menu.
On the iMac and Mac mini, right clicking on an item in the drop down menu of bookmarks/folders has no effect. It does not produce the additional drop down menu at all.
I can find no place to adjust this as a setting in preferences or anywhere else. Can you tell me why I am seeing a different response from the Firefox program on my MacBook Pro than I get from my other Macs?
All Macs are configured similarly and running OS X 10.6.5. All have Firefox 3.6.13 installed.
I realize there are many other ways to delete bookmarks from Firefox. My question is not about how to delete bookmarks, but rather why am I seeing the differing behavior from Firefox in other installs. It may well prove to be an issue within OS X rather than Firefox.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [ ] "Clear history when Firefox closes"
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

  • Problem with Imported Bookmarks

Months ago when I switched from my Mac Mini to my new iMac I imported all my bookmarks into the iMac. The problem now is that if I click on the + in the address bar to save a bookmark to the current page the window that opens contains two different sets of bookmarks. The first set of bookmarks is not the one I am using currently but if you scroll down a few windows you find "MacMini Bookmarks imported 03/15/10" that does contain the bookmarks I wish to add to.
The problem is that I am unsure how to delete the first list of bookmarks so that I don't have to remember to scroll down several windows to the "MacMini Bookmarks" I wish to save the bookmark to. Is it as simple as clicking on the Bookmarks icon in the left hand corner of the Bookmarks Bar highlighting the Bookmarks Bar icon and pressing delete?
    Thanks!

Yes. However, you can also move them out of that folder into new ones so you don't have to duplicate them.

  • Some bookmarks are correct in organising bookmarks but do not appear properly in toolbar folder and cannot be deleted in toolbar

I have one bookmark folder in my toolbar that has incorrect bookmarks I cannot delete them or edit them. In 'organising bookmarks' I have edited them and they are correct. but even if i delete or correct them in organising bookmarks in the toolbar the bookmarks do not change. though I can still add new bookmarks.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • FireFox 4, Ubuntu 10.04 - menu bar and bookmarks are locked

I recently upgraded to Firefox 4 on ubuntu 10.04. I did this by setting the ppa as described in many places: For example:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
After doing this, firefox has been working for many days just fine. On several of my systems [ 3 of my systems ].
Now I come back to one of my 10.04 systems and find that the menus of firefox are unresponsive. They do not work at all. The book marks do not work.
    Processor is not busy.
    Plenty of memory.
    Network is working fine.
If I type into the google search bar and type enter I get a page and I can navigate from there, but the menus and bookmarks are totally unresponsive.
    What gives?
I have rebooted the system and nothing changes.
Menus work fine in other apps, for example System Monitor. and the Window Manager menus are fine.
Menus work fine in the web pages.
Bookmark menus highlight, they do not pull down.
Menus on the menu bar do not pull down.
    Toolbar buttons work fine.

I fixed the problem by starting firefox in a terminal. Works when you start it that way, and works fine afterward.
This problem was reported by me ages ago ( i forgot actually).
