Incorrect capacity displayed in iTunes

Hello, I'm new to this forum so please excuse me if I forget any etiquette.
I have a 4Gb iPod Shuffle 2nd generattion that I have been using successfully for a year now. However, I recently re-built and re-installed my PC and now iTunes shows the unit as having 1Gb capacity.
I've tried the five Rs and it hasn't made any difference, it still shows as 967Mb available even when emptied.
Has anyone seen this behaviour before and does anyone know how to fix the problem?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Just as a final note ...
I was still having extreme trouble getting the PC to recognise the Shuffle. I had a number of other USB devices that were working, but the Shuffle just wouldn't work whatever I tried.
In the end, it was my power supply - about two weeks after the above posts, my PC died for no apparent reason and then, when restarting, couldn't get it's hard drives working (they kept recycling on startup).
I took the whole box to a local repair shop and they stuck a power supply checker on the system. All the lights were red or yellow - complete failure. This meant that of course the USB power would have been completely unreliable. So I bought a new supply.
Hey presto! Working, synching, all-dancing iPod Suffle!
The moral of this story is ... don't assume the power supply is okay just because the computer is working.

• Incorrect Video Capacity shown in iTunes (for iPhone)

I have the iPhone 3G (16GB). On the capacity bar in iTunes, it says that I have almost 4GB of video stored on my iPhone, when I actually have no videos on my iPhone. I have heard this is a problem others have experienced also, but I could not find an answer when searching through the other posts.
When I open my iPod (on my iPhone), and go to the video section, old rental movie videos (that have expired and are not longer available) pop up on my iphone screen VERY briefly and immediately disappear. They do not show up in my itunes library and should not be on my iphone.
Is there a way to fix this glitch? I'd rather not have to 'manually manage' all the music/video on my iphone because that would be a hassle (or am I wrong?).
What is the best way to go about fixing this? It's not really causing a big problem now, because I still have more capacity. But, I'm afraid that if I continue to rent videos that I will no longer have extra capacity available....
Thanks for any help!

• Hard disc drive capacity display

How do I contact Apple software technicians to inform them of a bug/defect in their Yosemite software? When I attempt to find
out how much of my hard disc drive has been used, that is the capacity state - then I receive an incorrect graphic display. I only have used a small amount of the capacity and I certainly do not have that much in the way of programs. The graphic
display does not match the text. The test is correct. I certainly do not have 369 GB in programs!

Re-index Macintosh HD.
Do this twice. This will take a while. wait until it is finished.

When I connect my iTouch to my PC (windows 7) an error message is displayed reading "iTunes was unable to load dataclass information from sync services. Reconnect or try again later". I have completely uninstalled and then reinstalled iTunes. I have also completely reset my iTouch to factory defaults. I have even followed all the advice provided previously to other forum member with the same problem. Nothing seems to work. Please help me someone.

I'm getting the same problem with both my IPad 4 and iPhone 5
Just started a few weeks back, Since then I have had two Itunes updates.

Since downloading ios5 on my iphone 4 a few days ago, the capacity guage in itunes shows "other" as over 21Gb and i can no longer fit any music on my iphone.
How do I get rid of the other stuff?
capacity available on 32 Gb iphone is 28.49Gb
i previously had 21.97 Gb music, over 6 Gb photos, about 1Gb of apps, and minute amount of audio
now i have no music, 5.4 Gb photos and similar (0.8Gb) for apps and audio. i have deleted heaps of photos and unused apps to try to make space but obviosly this is a much bigger problem. I also created a smaller music folder on itunes to sync to but at present no music is selected for syncing due to the lack of available space.
i have 15Gb icloud account now also which is about half full.
Ive done a little research and heard similar tales but with much smaller other totals than this. Can you help?
i cant update my apps as i get a message saying i do not have enough available space.

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

• What to do if Windows displays an "iTunes.exe - Corrupt File" message

Greetings fellow Podders, Resident Furball here...
It is about time that I produced a single post for all the chkdsk issues that we've been discussing since November 2004. The Apple KB article seems to cover the major points succinctly, but we need to address the more serious variations and flavours of the problem.

What to do if Windows displays an "iTunes.exe - Corrupt File" message
Many users are coming across this seemingly distressing error message in Windows when connecting their iPods. As described in Apple KB Article 300554, the message reads:
iTunes: iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory \iPod_Control\iTunes\????????? is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
and the ????????? can be anything (eg. sysinfo, Temp1, DeviceInfo etc.).

Don't panic!
If you do see this, don't worry, and don't panic. Contrary to what the error message reads, this issue actually has very little to do with iTunes. The iPod_Control is the key to this - because this folder doesn't even exist in iTunes... it's on the iPod!
...so! Installing and uninstalling iTunes really won't do you much good at all... it's the iPod that needs attention.

What's causing this error?
To be honest, we don't know. We saw a massive number of reports of this issue back in November 2004, because iPod Updater 2004-11-15 contained a firmware bug that corrupted iPod system files when the Pod entered Deep Sleep.
But this firmware bug was corrected in iPod Updater 2005-06-26.
Of late, we have seen a resurgence in chkdsk errors on Discussions. Some of these are caused by the old buggy firmware that people still have. Some of the errors are more serious and are hardware and operating system-related. But we have still to pin down the exact cause of this error.

Okay, so what do I do if I see this error?
In short, as Apple have recommended in their KB article:
Restore your iPod, using the latest iPod Updater.
Follow the instructions carefully. Ensure that you download the iPod Updater. Ensure that you install it, and then ensure that you run it with the iPod connected and follow the prompts to the letter.
The broad majority of the errors are painlessly fixed this way. Of course, it does mean that your iPod will be wiped, so make sure that you have your music/data backed up, and/or present in iTunes so you can resynchronise it when you have finished Restoring.

Okay, I've Restored, but the error is still coming up
Are you sure you've Restored? Quite a number of folks are assuming that just downloading the iPod Updater is enough. It's not. And neither is downloading iPod Updater, and installing it on your computer. It needs to be implemented on the iPod, according to the iPod Updater instructions.
Okay, so if you have Restored your iPod, and you are still getting this error, then you have a variety of options available.
Chkdsk errors that are not fixed with a Restore are most likely down to two things:
1) A physical issue on the iPod itself
or
2) An issue on the computer's operating system
Here's where it gets woolly. There are a variety of things you could try...
Format the iPod in Windows
This would usually have the same effect as a Restore, but a deep-level format in Windows is something that Apple have recommended in the past, as a last resort to completely wipe the iPod before performing a Restore with iPod Updater. This process wipes the iPod.
To do this:
1) Enable Disk Mode on the iPod. You can do this either in iTunes (which is best), or manually on the iPod itself.
2) Open My Computer and locate your iPod
3) Right-click the iPod and select Format
4) Leave the parameters set at their defaults, and ensure Quick Format is unchecked
5) Hit Format
6) Then Restore your iPod as normal.
Run the Chkdsk utility
You could run the chkdsk utility on your iPod. But Restoring your iPod has the same effect as running chkdsk. Chkdsk does not wipe your iPod.
1) Enable Disk Mode as above
2) Determine the drive letter of your iPod from My Computer
3) Go to Start, Run
4) Type cmd. Hit Enter to take you to the Command Prompt.
5) Type chkdsk /f X:, where X is the drive letter of your iPod. Hit Enter, and any corrupt files are found and corrected.
Run Windows ScanDisk
ScanDisk is the Windows version of Chkdsk. It does not wipe your iPod.
1) Enable Disk Mode
2) Right-click the iPod in My Computer, select Properties
3) Select Tools
4) Select the option to scan the disk for errors
Try changing the Drive Letter of the iPod
Sometimes Windows confuses the drive letters, and this can cause the iPod to be adversely affected. Try the instructions detailed in Apple KB Article 93499 to change the drive letter of the iPod. This does not wipe your iPod.
Try changing Hardware Policies for the iPod
The Hardware Policies in Windows have been known to affect the way in which the iPod connects, synchronises, and disconnects. This does not wipe your iPod.
1) Enable Disk Mode so the iPod appears in My Computer
2) Right-click the iPod in My Computer
3) Select Properties
4) Select Hardware Policies
5) Select Optimize for Performance (instead of Optimize for Removal)
6) Restart your computer.
Contact Apple for a replacement iPod
Some chkdsk issues have been caused by faulty hardware. As a last resort, contact Apple Support by phone to report your issue, and/or request an iPod Service.
If you explain that you have followed all these steps, you should have a strong case for obtaining a replacement iPod.

iPod Updater 2006-03-23 has been released
iPod Updater 2006-03-23 includes iPod Software 1.1.1 for the new iPod and new iPod Software 1.1.1 for iPod nano.
iPod Updater 2006-03-23 contains the same software versions as iPod Updater 2006-01-10 for all other iPod models.
What's new in iPod Updater 2006-03-23:
- Volume limit
- Bug fixes
I have been trying to ascertain from Apple Support Level 2 as to whether the latest iPod firmware improves or provides better resolution for the chkdsk issue. If anyone has been using iPod Updater 2006-03-23 to resolve their chkdsk woes, feel free to post in here just to say how things worked out for you...

It sounds like you essentially have a new computer and unless you restored from a backup your iTunes library would be empty. You can transfer your iTunes purchases from your iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
SInce you changed syncing computers. after you move the stuff you need to restore the iPod to factory defaults and sync the stuff back to your iPod. If you had the iPod backup file you could restore from backup.
If you have non-iTunes pruchases you can copy them to your computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion:

• Fonts no longer display in iTunes

After updating iTunes, fonts no longer display in iTunes and a few other places. Fix ideas?

Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
Start up in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Restart as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
If you still have problems, then from the Font Book menu bar, select
File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

There is no such thing as a "Factory Unlocked iPhone "
They are either locked to a carrier who may at some stage offer unlocking
or sold direct to a user by Apple (from their own Stores or online .)

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

• Does not display in iTunes -- How can I restore it?

I have not used my Nano for a while, and I upgraded to Leopard from Tiger since. I just plugged in my Nano and it briefly shows up in iTunes though it gives me a message that it was not properly disconnected and it disappears and in a minute or so it reconnects and disconnects again It keeps doing this.
I want to just restore it, though it does not display in iTunes long enough for me to do so. How can I restore it without being in iTunes?
Thanks.

You might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...
