Incorrect character display only on certain sites (MobileMe)

This is quite a mystery. Kudos if you know what the problem is.
Safari 5.0.3 running on PC with XP.

Rest of MobileMe is fine... iDisk, Contacts, Gallery, even Find iPhone.
Okay. Things I've tried:
1) mess with font smoothing. anything but Windows Standard is bad. -but nothing changed
2) delete program and load again. -nothing
3) dive into hidden files and delete preference files. -nothing
4) dig around more and delete and pref file or other support file i could find having anything to do with safari. delete safari and reload. -nothing
5) nuclear option. deleted everything apple. iTunes, Safari, QT, all associated support files in the hidden "Application Data" and "Local Settings" folders. Everything. Empty trash. Reload Safari. -Nothing.
Ideas?

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Your secure computer has a piece of unpleasant software - My Web Search. Remove any signs of it in Add-ons>Extensions and Plug-ins. Also check in Add/Remove Programs(Programs and Features in Win7). Also make sure you don't have any entries for Fun Web Products.

Occasionally Firefox 3.6.12 won't display photos on certain sites. Reloading works sometime but not alwasys.

At times on auction some sites such as ebay, (and others), photos won't display. If I press the reload button there's a chance the photo will display. If reload doesn't work the first time, pressing it 3 or 4 times may work but not always. Closing the site then re-opening works sometimes but not always. Annoying.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Displaying only a certain number of results of a query

Hi all
I'm a rookie and I built a little application. If have a query which displays over 500 results. I would like to display 10 results on a page and dynamically display a footer containing numbered links to the following/next sets of my results (blocks of 10). Is there some sample code or even ready-to-implement script available? For me its really important that I can design it the way I want so an easy understandable CSS or whatever would be great.

Wrong character display on certain website
On certain website like this or engadget i see all the character in a wrong way.
I got the same problem on 2 different computer.
The addons that i've installed are: FIREBUG, ADBLOCK, Java console.
Any idea on how to fix this?

This issue can be caused by the bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or another (bitmap) font that can't be displayed by Firefox in that font size.
Firefox can't display that font in the specified size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or find a True type version of that font that doesn't have the problem.

Is there a way to have Firefox keep cookies from only certain sites?

I want to allow Firefox to retain cookies from only certain sites. Is there a way to do this? My understanding is that it is much riskier from a security standpoint to allow cookies to remain in the browser continually. So I have it set to remove them when Firefox closes. But there are a couple of sites I trust and it would make things a lot better if I could keep their cookies.

I'm not aware of such an add-on, but it might exist. There also might be a Greasemonkey userscript that will load the pages and fire the save.

OfficeJet J4550 All-In-One not scanning or copying; only prints from certain sites

I have a HP Pavillion Slimline 400 and my will not scan or copy, and only prints from certain sites. I have uninstalled and installed the software driver numerous times and still get a "scanner not working" message. I have also unplugged and turned off and replugged in the USB and the power cords several times. Currently, I have uninstalled the printer software, so I have no recognizable printer on my PC. Help!!

Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with scanning and printing from a select few sites.
I have a few steps that we can try to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
As for printing from web pages, please make sure that you have your firewall or anti virus settings turned down as well as the Pop-up blocker disabled. If this does not resolve the issue, maybe try another web browser such as Mozilla fire fox or Google Chrome.

For your issue, you can go to Site Settings -> Site Collection Administration -> Search Settings -> set "Site Collection Search Dropdown Mode" to "Show scopes dropdown":

There are lots of CSS errors shown in the "Firefox/Tools > Web Developer > Error Console" (Shift+CtrL+J) on that website.

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Certain Sites Blocked / Others Displayed Improperly

Safari is blocking certain sites, such as www.apple.com oddly enough. The problem is intermittent, at times I'm able to get on the site. More frequently what happens is sites will load but the pages are improperly displayed, images don't load, text is bumped all over the place. Its like a tornado came through.
And to make it more bizarre this isn't just a problem with Safari. The same things are happening to me in Firefox and Chrome. Any ideas here? Its getting really annoying. Won an auction the other day on ebay and couldn't use my computer to pay for the item. Had to log on with my phone to do it. Really, my phone is more useful than my $2000 laptop? Please help - thanks!

By any chance, do you have the Mac version of Kaspersky Antivirus installed on your Mac? (A few months ago, on the PC side of things, there was a rash of similar trouble with Kaspersky blocking and/or causing rendering issues with apple.com.)

Can't access certain sites only on firefox even after reinstalling

Today I couldn't access certain sites like my university site and google (had to use yahoo to search). I tried restarting FF in safe mode, reseted FF to factory settings, deleted FF and erased all its data and reinstalled FF23.......
But it still doesn't solve the problem. I have no problems accessing these same sites with another browser. When I access these sites with FF, with by clicking search on my search bar or clicking a bookmark or hyperlink, FF just gives me no response, as if I didn't click anything. If I click to open the link in a new tab, it just displays a blank tab as if I've just pressed Ctrl + T
Can anyone help me with this please? Thanks.

What are the settings for clearing history when Firefox closes?
Make sure that you do not clear the Browsing Cache as that will remove the thumbnails that are stored in it.

Setting certain fiels to display only in Life and work events

Hello gurus,
we are implementing life and work events and are requesting you to give some suggestions, if possible. We have a globl version of the life and work events and in the similar lines, there are life and work events for other countries like singapore, India, Now, the requirement is that certain fields in these countries should be disabled for input. For example, I do not want the date of birth to be editable. Where and how do I go about making changes like these on the life and work events for certain fields to become "display only"?
Could anybody please suggest?

Maria I tried what you asked for...but It came as a surprise to me that UI personalization for applications under "L&W Events" with "Ctrl+Right Click" Technique is not possible !!
Thus according to my understanding... In order to make few fields readonly under "L&W Events" you have to go for NWDI level changes....
Now as per your specific question "That you want same application to appear differently based on whether it is accessed from L&W Events OR it is accessed from ESS Overview section"... you can follow any of below approach :
Approach 1:
1. Modify your application (make fields read only) in NWDI...as per your L&W Events requirement.
2. Now you can use this modified application as base...to make further changes with "Ctrl+Right click" technique...as then they will be applicable when user access this application from ESS Overview section...
Approach 2:
Create 2 separate applications useing NWDI....one for L&W Events...and another one for ESS Overview section....
For application to be used in L&W Events you make changes using NWDI...
And for application to be used in ESS Overview section...you can make changes using "Ctrl+Right Click" approach....
Maria, i have not tried on what I am suggesting you....So please try it at your end and let us know.....if this works.....
I would be glad if some Expert can comment on this approach further........
Moreover a very strange part which I found is.....changes made to an application using "Ctrl+Right Click" approach are not visible/applicable when application is accessed from "L&W Events"....
Which means if you have to make any UI changes under "L&W Events" applications you have to go for NWDI level changes.......
