Incorrect Densitometer Readings

I am running Aperture 2.0 and recently did a greyscale test on a Canon 40D using an 18% grey card as the control.
The RGB densitometer readings (using the loupe) were largely as expected when reviewed with the 18% grey card falling in Zone 5
There are effectively 10 stops of dynamic range (Zone 0 to 9), and Zone 5 falls approximately in the middle of this dynamic range both as a numeric value and as a step in the greyscale.
There does seem however to be a notable anomaly in my results, as depicted in the spreadsheet below:
ZONE R G B
Zone 0 20 21 20
Zone 1 25 25 25
Zone 2 28 31 31
Zone 3 44 46 47
Zone 4 67 68 68
Zone 5 113 114 115
Zone 6 163 165 165
Zone 7 207 210 209
Zone 8 246 247 247
Zone 9 255 255 255
HOWEVER, an anomaly occurs in Zone 0 to 2 as follows:
1. In Zone 0 to 2 the RGB values seem squashed into a narrow RGB band (effectively 20 to 30)
2. As ridiculous as this sounds There seems to be no “pure black” zone in my grey-scale test.
I know it is not the camera as if I run the same test in the canon software I get more correct RGB readings with the final zone reading 0,0,0 for the RGB values, which is effectively pure black
Any ideas?

Hear is one idea - maybe different RAW processors process RAW files differently with different tone curves. Maybe that's what is causing this unheard of effect.

  • Incorrect bios readings

    hi community
i have an issue with how bios reads my cpu temp, it seems its reporting back my cpu surface temp instead of my core temp which is 25c lower than the actual core temp(i boot into bios and it reads my cpu temp as 6c but in windows, everest and speedfan both report 31c as my core temp)...
i am using the latest bios and everything runs great but this is making me really wonder.

Sounds like a Bios issue as Speedfan and Everest read directly from the sensor chips. I doubt it is anything to worry about and somewhere down the road when you reflash the Bios it will likely be corrected. Though I would certainly not flash the Bios just for that issue as it won't affect anything else as far as I am aware.

  • Problem with NVIDIA card

    Hello,
I'm using a Sony VAIO-VGNFE41Z notebook with the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics card. Approximately four days ago the card started to display artifacts on the screen even before the appearance of the VAIO logo during the BIOS initialization process. These artifacts look like green dotted squares, blue randomly placed rectangles and vertical green dotted lines. Since these artifacts appear even before grub takes over the boot process, I really think that this is a hardware issue.
After the appearance of these artifacts the X server doesn't start up but I still have access to the text console and "nvidia-debugdump -l" displays the following:
NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidia0 (Input/output error).
    Error: nvmlInit(): Driver Not Loaded
What bothers me however is the fact that I've been using Archlinux on my notebook for approximately one year and before that I used Windows XP for approximately seven years. So my question is whether or not it is possible that the proprietary NVIDIA drivers somehow slowly "destroyed" the graphics card perhaps due to incorrect temperature readings? This is the installation history for these proprietary drivers:

Is it possible that the last update on 2015-04-07 somehow messed up the graphics card? Although I find it weird, because the problems didn't appear until 2015-04-10. Nevertheless the temperature readings don't seem to work. Here's the result of nvidia-smi:

The temperature for the GPU isn't shown. However I don't know, whether or not it's supposed to be this way for the GO 7600 graphics card. Here are the details of an lspci call:

So what do you think? Could these problems have been caused by gradual overheating of the graphics card for approximately one year? Or maybe the last driver update somehow messed up the graphics card? I need to know this, because I want to know, whether the problem will repeat itself if I buy another Go 7600 and replace the buggy graphics card with another GO 7600. If it's a "gradual overheating due to a faulty driver"-issue the next card will probably stop working as well after one year. It's interesting to note that nvidia-smi doesn't display the Fan Speed for this graphics card. Does this card have a built-in fan?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Why is there not support

Is there any particular reason that MSI doesn't support its customers? I have a KT400 Ultra board that has a bios update (1.4) that has a known issue of giving incorrect temperature readings. This issue has been known for a while now and yet there is no solution for it other than rolling back your bios and losing the support offered with the 1.4 bios. There is a known issue with the via chipset and the crc error and the only solution I have found for my system is a beta patch written by a 3rd party. Does MSI not care about getting repeat business? The crc issue is to the point now that I am going to have to replace my board and if MSI support is this bad why would I want to but another board from them?

    Hi,
The temp reading is a bit strange, I know, but there is no single board on the planet that measure them correct...
This because the diode inside the XP-chip has a marging of +/-10% off :D
As for the CRC error, that was fixed sinds BIOS 1.3, so what's the problem?

  • Unstable PXI/SCXI system

I’m using a SCXI 1100 with a SCXI 1300 module to read the output of 6 instruments and a test signal. These are used in conjunction with a PXI-6040E module and is housed in a PXI-1011 chassis. The majority of the instruments are 4-20ma and a 120ohm resistor is used across each 1300 input. The test signal is 0.3v taken from a battery-operated supply. When used with my CVI application, all signals seem to periodically dip to low value (0.2V) and then back again, although they are constant when read with a DVM. It doesn’t happen to all signals at the same time but often 2 consecutive channels will drop together. There are 3 other SCXI 1100/1300 modules in the system, with 32 voltage inputs connected to each. These seem to functioning correc
    tly. Any ideas? Thanks

    Hello Chris_hsl
It seems like you are having incorrect software readings for these channels.
You may have a settling problem caused by either filters or high gains. First, check to see if you have enabled filtering. If you use a 4 Hz or 10 kHz filter on the SCXI-1100, you must scan channels at a slower rate. Because the filter circuitry is located after the amplifier, you must give the amplifier time to settle before switching to the next channel.
If you are not using the filter, check the amplifier gains you are using on the SCXI-1100 module and the DAQ board. Using a very high gain on your SCXI-1100 module and on some DAQ boards also has the effect of increasing your settling time. Decreasing your scan rate (increasing the delay between channels) should sol
    ve this problem.
If these suggestions do not solve your problem, please reply to this post and I will look for a different solution to your dilemma. Have a great day!

  • I have to change bios rev. Which version?

    Hi to u all,
I'm tired of MSI's late with no advice to develop a new bios release, also because the previous versions are all affected by some problems.
But i've got to upgrade my bios now, I've got a 1.20 release, all but stable with my configuration (cpu and nb  temp detection failure and crashes).
In your opinion, what's the most stable release for the 875P neo bios?
I've read that 1.60 has problems with the "light" overclock it does also at slow mode to the AGP bus... Somebody with ATI video cards finds this a real problem?
And also: some bios releases , in e.g. 1.50 or also the beta like 1.74... Where should I find that? On MSI's website there's nothing except the official version 1.0, 1.20, 1.40, 1.60.

There SHOULD be... In fact, i don't know if my probs could be related to the "automatic overclock" feature, but...
    - I've got MANY crashes, specially when playing, that make me think that this is a video card related problem... But it's not a software thing, it's probably a problem between the mobo and my Radeon9500 (not pro).
No one of the games i play (there are about 15 games on my pc) works well... sometimes the computer freezes, sometimes it autoreboots without any advice, sometimes gives me some errors at the startup of win2000 (original, certified, and updated version with every service pack).
I think i'll pass to the 1.50 release... Hoping that everything goes well, I could be not the first to have an MSI mobo "wrecked" by a bios update... I've read one just 2 days ago on this forum.
    Bye! :D

  • I recenty ran into a problem when measuring 6 equal voltage signals. When using a g

ood quality digital meter all voltage signals where equal and also using the labview test panel all voltage signals where equal. When measured by my vi i found that the voltage signals where not the same 2 of the channels displayed almost twice the amount. After changing the channel order using the I/O tabs on the right of the control panel I found i got the correct voltage readings. What caused my vi to diplay incorrect voltage readings due to the order of my I/O channels?I am using Labview 6.0 with a SCB-68 shielded I/O Connector Block interfaced with a NI-DAQ Multifunction I/O board PCI-MIO-16E-4.

I couldn't open the attachment you posted. However, you probably set the wrong input limits for your gains or had a too small interchannel delay in between channels that wasn't letting the instrumentaion amplifier to settle down properly.
A good way to make sure your VI is the cause for the problem is to run one of the Labview shipping examples to do the acquisition. The best one to try is the one named Continuous Acquisition and Chart(buffered).vi.

  • Indesign CS3 - Pic Inconsistencies

Hi, I'm puzzled by a weird problem I've not seen before: an identical pic (top banner psd file) on a master page changing slightly in appearance between pages within the same InDesign document i.e. on some pages the pic looks noticably darker than on others. I've checked it thoroughly and it's all set up right (all pages are based on the master page anyway). I've created print quality PDFs and viewed on 2 machines (to check its not simply a monitor issue) and the problem still seems to be there. Next step is to do some proofs I guess, but the job has to go to print soon and I'm concerned the problem will appear on the printed job. Could be the file's corrupt, but it's 90 pages long and I dread having to recreate it (and the problem still being there). Anyone got any ideas on this? Thanks. By the way I'm on a dual G5 running OSX 10.4.10.

Are there any differences in transparency usage on the different pages? Check the Flattener Preview, and while you're at it, check the Separations Preview. Do you see the differences in the densitometer readings in the Seps Preview?

  • Turning off mouse & keyboard

I would like to know if there would be battery consumption on the wireless mouse & keyboard when the Imac is turned off.I see an off switch on the mouse & I do turn it to off.Not sure how to turn off the keyboard though,Will battery still be used when Mac is turned off?

    Hi Don!
A couple of "bits" of information:
I've had this machine about 3 months now, and the battery level for the keyboard is still showing 100%. However, I've had to change the batteries in the mouse about a month ago, and it's now reporting 50%.
This is a problem (incorrect battery readings) that apparently started with OS X 10.6.7. The readings are consistently high.  The problem has been reported and the "powers that be" are aware of the issue.  I suspect a future release will take care of the incorrect reading issue.  In the meantime, the "mighty monitor" widget that runs under Dashboard seems to have correct readings.
I have been using rechargeable batteries and a 15 minute charger (all obtained on eBay new at a reasonable price).  I happen to be using Energizers (2450 mAh).  Although the batteries do not last as long as Lithium batteries, the cost is less over a period of time.  Rechargeables also are "feel good" as they are environmentally friendly.
    Regards,
    Barry
P.S.  My mighty mouse does require batteries more often than my keyboard, although I suspect it is because I use the mouse a lot as I type VERY slowly.

  • IDE (Yellow) Problem with media files

    Hi...
When i try to play any media file from the hard disk that is connected to the IDE (Yellow) the file do not play well. The sound is disoriented and the movie freeze for about 2sec. When I connect the same HD to the IDE (Blue) everything is OK.
Also I try to run CoreCenter without any good result... PC Alerts it is telling me that of the voltage is supposed to be between 10.0v to 13.0v and said 5.xxv ???
I already install the new bios. Any ideas?

    WinXP SP2

Do you have the unreleased BIOS 1.2? Did it fix incorrect temp readings in BIOS?
But anywho, I have a similar problem, media files dont play well, Im connected to the yellow, but it only happens when my DVDburner is working on something, so I cant listen or watch anything when Im burning,
Corecenter doesnt work either, but Ill quote the release notes:
    version 1.6.8.0 (6/16/04)
          new mainboard :
             MS-7053 (ClockGen :ICS 954130BF,Linear over clock , watch-dog , SouthBridge: Intel 82801FB,NorthBridge:Intel 925X)
But now there a new verison 1.7.0.0 of Corecenter so...
But did the 1.2 BIOS fix anything on your computer? Is it more stable?
I think your problem lies in the BIOS, or at least it sounds that way.

  • Temperature increase after installing new drivers

    Hi!
As many others I have had problems with the incorrect temperature readings. But the temperature dropped from 54C to 34C when I installed the 1.8 version of the BIOS.
To get Cool'n'Quite working I installed the new Windows processor drivers from AMD. But after that the temperature reading (in Core center and BIOS) was up to 54C again...
Installing new windows drivers shouldn’t affect the BIOS CPU temperature reading, or...?
If this topic has been discussed in another post I apologise but I couldn’t find anything about my problem.

I'm actually mysteriously experiencing similar / same issue.... I remember the temp was @3XC first boot and back to messed up again after a reboot... but started yesturday.... situation seem to be backward... Now i'd get a reading of 5XC first boot, and dropped to normal after a reboot.... Really have no idea why... I think they fixed the temp in the V1.8 so that it works when it wants to....
Come on MSI, you can do it... It's so close... yet so far....

  • K8N Neo2 platinum: should I flash to 1.3 bios?

Currently I have BIOS 1.1.  Does anyone recommend that I should flash to 1.3?
I was not sure what this buys you.  I do have some problems with temperature reading, perhaps this might go away.
Anyhow, maybe someone knows if it fixes some major bugs lurking out there that I might want to fix now before I find them.
What is your recommendation?  Perhaps I should wait until version 1.4 comes out?

Well. I have the same board (Neo2) and the bios upgrade from 1.2-1.3 stated that it resolved incorrect temperature readings according to the MSI driver's download page. I would assume that since you have 1.1 this would also be the case.So in answer to your question, YES.

  • Meter readings on the incorrect equipment

    Hello ISU experts,
In which table one can see Time slices of the Device.
    Incicent description:
Meter readings on the incorrect equipment
When meter readings are received for the old meter after a rate change the meter readings are set to the incorrect equipment. This has consequences for reconciliation. Example EAN 871694840010613215.
There are errors since the meterchange. According the rate data equipment 11501576 is removed since 02.04.2005. But still meter readings are received AFTER this period. It looks like that the last record of equipment 15559930 is the previous meter reading of the old equipment.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi SHABNUM,
you can see technical device data in view V_EGER or ETDZ. The billing relevant information is stored in EASTS (association of device to installation). If you are using device info records --> table EGERR has to be chosen.
BUT I thin what your issue is: the meter reading order seems to be wrong --> table EABL and EABLG. You can still read a meter which is not installed!
Correction supposal: use EL37 to reverse the meter readings and use EL28 to create NEW meter reading orders for the correct device --> store the meter reading results.
    I hope that helps
    Uwe

  • AI-110 incorrect readings

I'm getting incorrect readings in MAX from cFP-AI110 even when I wire 10Vdc directly to the input.  Does someone know what causes this to occur?

    rmorais,
What kind of readings are you getting? Do you have the module
configured for -10.4 to 10.4 Volts? Have you double checked your supply
voltage with a DMM or some other device capable of measuring voltages?
Finally, do you see this incorrect reading on only one channel, or all
the channels? Please let us know the details of the error and I'd be
    more than happy to help.

  • Incorrect AMUX/PCI6025 readings using Labview/DAQ

I have an AMUX64/PCI6025. Using my DVM, I measure the voltage at the AMUX screw terminals on various channels with correct readings obtained. Performing measurements with Labview/DAQ are incorrect. What is causing this?

    Hello;
The first thing to double check is if the input mode is set accordainly with the connections made.
The best bet is to revisit the AMUX Users Manual and double check the connections you made with the ones shown in the manual. Furthermore, go to MAX and check the input mode of the DAQ device.
    Everything must match.
In case you got everything accordainly with the manual, and you still see the same behavior, the problem is probably hardware related.
    Hope this helps.
