Incorrect email from name

Since moving to iCloud, the name shown on the mail list of my recipients for all mail sent from my iOS 5 devices has changed to my formal name, and I can't figure out how to change it.  My formal name was previoulsly listed on my Apple I.D., but I have since changed it.
Additionally, my mail account name on iCloud, mail application and address book are all showing the correct name.
Any suggestions before I call Apple Support?

Found the right setting.  For each device, go to settings -> iCloud -> mail -> advanced -> name.
You'll need to scroll down to see the advance setting at the very bottom.

  • N9 email from name, where is the option?

In the Mail app I'm trying to send email with a custom name and custom email address. I set up Other mail account (IMAP/SMTP). This worked fine in Nokia E55 for example (custom from name and address). In N9, I don't find any place to change the sender email address and also the name inserted into Accounts -> Other mail account -> My name doesn't seem to have any effect. The messages are sent just by the IMAP email address (no full name). Outgoing mail server username doesn't have effect on the visible from field either.
Where are the working sender options?

yes, this is a draw-back for sure.
i found a way around it.
first, it sounds like you are only able to send from the IMAP email that you set as the default.
in order to change the "from" email address, you will need to tap the "down arrow" under the subject, there you will see the "from" and you can tap and change it there.
there seems to be an issue with the signiture not working correctly, so it will not change from what your default email signiture says. so if you want to have the correct signiture, then you will need to go to the inbox of the email account and then tap the + for a new email from there.
as for changing what you want it to show...
i cannot make the email show "Jim Hoyle", but lets say your email is [email protected] and you want people to actually see [email protected], then you would do that during setup.
when setting up the account, type in [email protected] and use an incorrect password.
once it fails, then tap manual and change all the data you need to for the correct settings. now when you send an email, in the 'from' area on the recievers end, it will show [email protected]
    hope that helps.

  • Email "from" name issue

When I recieve email from one particular contact, the name on the main screen that shows you your emails says "home". When I tap on the "home" it brings up their contact info which has their name. Any thoughts on how to fix this

  • Email "from" name is incorrect

I am experiencing something that I have never seen before.
Situation:  I create an email message and send it to a group.  I am part of that group, so I am also a recipient of that message.  When the message arrives in my in-box the "from" field shows the message to be from someone else (this person happens to be a customer).  When I click on the message, it shows to be from me.  I asked a friend if this was occurring on their message from me and they said no, so it appears to be some sort of internal name substitution going on in me email system.  Ideas?  Your input is much appreciated.

Thanks!  This was helpful.  I had looked there before and my name was listed correctly.  Your comment prompted me to check the contact of the other person who was showing up.  Apparently I had accidentally cut/pasted my email address to become one of her work email addresses (the first one listed).  I deleted that, and it corrected the problem.  Thanks again.

  • Spam email from my Address Book

Every day I get spam emails from names that are in my address book. I notice this because the names that pop up are not always common, often unique names of folks I have worked with recently.
It's as if someone hijacked or monitors my email. This occurs on more on my non.mac email address.
    Possible? Thanks!

  • Strange email from BT

    Hi,
Today I received an email from BT that I had used 7GB of 10GB, not that unusual since I do use my connection for online gaming. However, as an option 3 customer I should have a limit of 100GB (I have checked my profile at btinternet.com and it agrees that I am option 3). Has anyone else had this message and is there a specific number I could phone to inquire with BT?

There was something similar about this flagging up before, I think it was Andy who mentioned it whereby people were getting incorrect emails from BT about usage and 'welcome' emails.
I would recommend you contact BT just to make sure either by phone or you could contact the forum team by email at [email protected]
Indeed it was me. A user did report receiving the 100GB email by mistake (not a welcome email).
As the OP has now also shown, there is something wrong with the system and can't be trusted

About ~20 hours later, this ended up solving itself. We can send email using the '.icloud' email from both the iPad and iPhone.  Advise would be 'wait' before you start seeking alteranatives like yahoo, hotmail, etc.  This definitely is a convenient way to keep all your 'cloud' information in a centralized place, including the common email...

  • I had a power failure 2 days ago, have power now, but cannot send email from my iPad. Everything was fine before that. The box says cannot send mail, the user name or password for Gmail is incorrect. I haven't changed anything. I need help. Thanks

    Hi
I had a power failure 2 days ago, my computer is running again, but now I cannot send email from my iPad using Cox or my gmail account. I am receiving mail in my Cox account but not my gmail account. It was working fine until the power failure. It keeps telling me, the user name or password for Gmail is incorrect. I have not changed anything. I don't know what is wrong. Can anyone help me? Thanks

I agree, unplug and replug your router, then reset your iPad by holding down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red power down slider, and wait til you see the silver apple. let it reboot and then try your connection.
Chances are rebooting the router will help. You may also need to talk to cox. They may need to reset something on their end.

  • My name is displayed incorrectly when I send email from my ipad.  How do I change it?

When I send an email from my iPad, my last name is spelled incorrectly.  Please advise.

Go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts & Calendars and select the E-Mail account you want to modify then go to Account and change whatever you need. Most likely "Name" and/or "Description"

  • Cannot send email user name or password is incorrect

I have an iPhone 3Gs with 6.1.6 iOS software and gmail. Until last week I could receive and send emails on my phone. Last week I tried to email a photo from my iPhone and received the following message "Cannot send email the user name or password is incorrect".  About 30 minutes later I received an email message from google accounts with a sign-in attempt blocked message.  Since then I have not been able to send an email from my phone.  Every time I try to send an email I get the "User name or Password for Gmail is incorrect" - message.  I changed passwords but that didn't help. I can receive emails on my phone but I can't send them. The only way I can send email is by clicking on the less secure apps button on the google accounts settings page..  Why do I get this message now and how can I get gmail working on my phone like it used to?  If I delete my gmail account does it just remove it from the phone where the same account can be reinstalled or is it completely gone for good?

    Hey YodaObi,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you are not able to send emails but are able to receive them. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • HT1430 Cannot send email from iPhone 4S ..it keeps saying smpt password is incorrect but it is correct and I receive email no problem

Cannot send email from iPhone...keeps saying smpt password is incorrect but it is correct.. I recieve email no problem

On my own, I discovered the following, which worked (one responder got the solution part correct for Google): For Yahoo, where I just use a standard login with no extra verification, I had to go into Yahoo and change my password. Once I did this, the new iPhone had no problem registering accepting my Yahoo account. I WAS, however, using the correct password and user name all along, for those who did not think that was the case. The problem is on the iPhone software side. For Google, I use a two step verification, and for that, one must go to Google Mail and obtain a specific, unique password, that is designed to work only on iPhones. Hope this helps anyone else with this dilemma.

  • When emailing from iPhoto, the recipients address comes up incorrect, even though it is correct in both my email accounts.  How do I edit it?  I have changed it, but the next time it appears it contains the same errors.

When emailing from iphoto with a template, the recipients' address comes up incorrect (a couple of letters are wrong).  The addresses are correct in both my email accounts, including the one I am using for the iphoto email.  I have corrected the address prior to sending the email, but they come up with the same errors the next time I choose them in the iphoto 11 program.  How do I correct thes email addresses?  thank you

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

    subject="#form.message_subject#">

Check the settings in the Accounts for Mail.
Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Click on your email Account in the left column > What appears under Full Name in the right column?
If that is the incorrect name you're describing change it to your correct name.
