Incorrect export encoding

I've edited a video that makes extensive use of Premiere CS4's spotlight effect.  It encodes correctly to Flash, but not to avi or to mpeg2.  The ambient light and focus are very different in those two formats.  You can see the Flash version of the video here:
http://www.osborne-conant.org/miriam-video.htm
Since I can't correctly export to mpeg2, I can't make a useful DVD of this video.  Any suggestions?

Through a lot of experimentation I’ve learned more about the changes in the spotlight effect the CS4 encoder makes in Mpeg2-DVD files when it exports them from Premiere CS4.  It adds more ambient light, flattens the contrast (blacks come out grayer and the brightness of whites is dulled,) and the gamma levels are strongly reduced.  By strongly altering the spotlight settings for ambience, intensity, exposure, and focus, and by strongly increasing the gamma levels I can approximate what I want to export.  The problem is that the image on the monitor in Premiere is then so far removed from what I actually get in the mpeg2 export that accurate editing becomes impossible since I needed to use the spotlight effect extensively and in a very detailed way.
(See the Flash version here:  http://www.osborne-conant.org/miriam-video.htm )
I find it especially interesting that Flash files are exported with very little change, but the mpeg2 and DV-avi files are strongly altered.  Earlier I discovered a similar problem with the ripple effect.  Really slow settings for ripples are not exported correctly; they come out much faster.  Problems like these render useless some kinds of detailed editing done in Premiere.  I hope they will be fixed someday.  Thanks to both of you for your thoughtful comments.

  • XML export encoding problem

    Hi all,
    I've got a problem when I export BW query data in xml format. I send the xml file containing query data to a BSP controller and read out the file using form fields. The problem is that some characters get 'damaged': german characters like 'äöüÄÖÜ' etc. or '€' can't be received correctly. I assume that the query gets export in iso 8859-1 encoding and the BSP controller expects utf-8. Is there a possibility to change the export encoding of the xml document before it gets send to the BSP controller? Or is there other solution?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dominik

    Hello,
             The solution for this issue is before transferring  the xml  file convert it to xstring with proper encoding and then send iit to BSP,
    you can use the following,
    call function 'SCMS_STRING_TO_XSTRING'

  • Export/Encoding/Compression Error

    I have been trying to burn a DVD for the last week without any success using iMovie and iDVD.
    When trying to burn the DVD on iDVD, the program would "Unexpectedly Quit" while it is encoding the movie. It would encode the first 2-3 minutes of the movie before the program quits. Furthermore, when I try to save the project to a Disk Image, the program unexpectedly quits too.
    Since I noticed that the program was quitting during the encoding process of the first movie, I tried exporting the first movie into another format such as QuickTime and MPEG-4 using iMovie. QuickTime immediately prompts the message:
    "A file compression error occurred. The movie could not be properly compressed. THe movie may contain some data that is invalid for the type of compression selected."
    The project consists of JPEG's, Quicktime MOV's with sound(from a Kodak Digital Camera), and M4p's (purchased through iTunes). I would believe all these formats are compatible with iMovie since they are all imported successfully. When trying to export to MPEG-4 with Audio (AAC-LC), the encoding processes half way, then quits unexpectedly.
    On an interesting note, when I encode the same movie using MPEG-4 with NO AUDIO, the encoding process completes successfully. I am suspecting that the issue may have to involve the Audio.
    Out of the 9 iMovie Projects I included in my DVD, 5 of them could be exported into Quicktime MOV's correctly, while the other 4 would cause the program to quit. I noticed that the 5 that do work are all under 5 minutes of video and audio. The other 4 that say "A compression error occurred". I do not know if this somehow attributes to the problems.
    Is there anything I can do to encode these 4 movies correctly?
    If it is an issue with the audio compression, is there a work around for it?
    If I am able to encode these movies correctly on iMovie, should the encoding process for iDVD work correctly also?
    Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi ebm - not sure that I can help much, but a few observations:
    iMovie converts M4P files to AIFF, so that shouldn't cause a problem.
    The .MOV files from the Kodak still camera may be more problematic - are you sure that the audio on them plays in iMovie? What format are those files - perhaps they're mpeg4?
    I cannot see why you would want to convert the movie to MPEG4.
    What about creating a QT (Full Quality) file of each movie, then open iDVD and drag them into the iDVD window. If their combined length is less than 60 minutes, you could use the Best Performance setting with background encoding ticked (in iDVD Preferences) - you can then watch them as they encode.
    Of course, Best Quality may produce a slightly better result, but the encoding occurs after you click Burn.
    Good luck!

  • Multi-tasking while importing, exporting, encoding, burning, etc, etc.

    Am I in any way endangering my project if I use the mac for other functions like being online, receiving email, wordprocessing, etc, while my IDVD project is busy encoding assets, and getting ready to burn, or burning dvds?
    I ask because my experience with IMovie is that I need to be disconnected from everything else--the internet, even my printer/fax/copier/scanner when working on a project or horrible stuttering occurs. The stuttering will eventually happen regardless after I have enough extracted audio and audio edits in the project (it doesn't seem to like that), but at least I can put off working around that when disconnected.
    It has been taking about 7-8 hours to create a disk image of a 90-minute project and I've been afraid to use the computer for anything else lest the virtual dvd gets screwed up with stuttering or slow motion audio.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks a lot.

    In theory, you should be able to do anything while running a non-realtime application (like iDVD). If there are side-effects, it is because there are bugs. The only thing you would do is slow the application down by contending for resources (like memory or the disk). If the application is written properly, you should not notice problems. I quite often will work on something else while processing a DVD. Typically, I am working on something else in iMovie for a different DVD. I have not noticed problems.
    Now, iMovie is a different application because it does involve some realtime operations. Anytime you are importing video from or exporting video to a device then you do not want to slow the application down. If your machine is fast enough, you might get away with it. But I wouldn't recommend that. If you are exporting DV to the disk or extracting audio, there shouldn't be any reason why you can't work on the computer at the same time. I do it all the time and don't notice any problems.
    Again, just because you can do it, doesn't mean you won't experience issues. These are bugs that need to be reported. As always, write your DVD to a disk image just in case something happens. Mac OS is supposed to be an OS where an app crash doesn't affect anything else, but I wouldn't want to live by that. Most of the time I let iDVD run by itself because I just don't have enough to do for the amount of time that it runs.

  • 100% CPU Usage in CS5.5 Premiere Pro during export/encoding

    I am wondering why my CPU usage is so high during exporting of my videos.  My counter shoots up to 100% as soon as I start and hovers at 95% throughout the whole process.  This seems dangerous to me so I wanted to bring it up here as I haven't found anyone with this same issue on this website or google.  Here are my system specs:
    i5-2400 CPU @3.10GHz
    6 GB of Ram
    64 bit windows 7
    Geforce 660 ti graphics card (2gb)
    They aren't top of the line but I feel like it should be capable of encoding.  I've cleaned my fans and tried using avi and h.264 formats which both led to the same issues.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm new to premiere pro so I'm sure I left some useful information out above.

    "...the same results"
    This means high CPU usage, right?
    Correct
    Are your exported media files ok?
    I've only completed one because I was freaked out but yes they are fine.
    I guess the thing I'm worried about is my temps going up really high because of the 100% usage.  I thought that they were both entertwined as in high usage = high temps.  I'll look for a temperature program to run while encoding and I'll monitor how high the temps get.  You've given me hope here as I may have been making mountains out of mole hills.  If the temperatures are high would you recommend more fans in my desktop?

  • SSRS report is incorrectly exporting scientific notation to Excel

    I created a SSRS  2012 report which has a field of data that is set to scientific notation (1.234E-15).  Upon exporting it to Excel version 2010,
    some of the values come across as #VALUE! and it should show the actual number.  It is only doing this for parts of the data, I have some that have 1.234E-15 that show up fine.  I have tried many things to resolve but to no avail.

    Hi Laurie,
    As per my understanding, Excel display #### character is due to following two reason:
    • The text is too long for the cell at its current width.
    • Value is out of data type range.
    In your case, the issue may cause by the cell width is too short. Please make sure it has enough cell width when we design report in SSRS.
    If the issue is persist, please elaborate the issue for further investigation.

  • Best Export/Encode for 1080p HDTV Display?

    I'm looking for today's best practice for encoding an animation that will be looping on a 1080p HDTV panel at an event.
    Which codec & container, bitrate etc. is the best for quality, yet reasonable file size? I want it to be as sharp as possible, but would like to keep the file under 1gb if possible.
    My animation is 1080p 25fps, lots of imagery and some text, approx 1.5 minutes.
    Thanks!

    What device will be playing the file? Many TVs now have a USB port that will enable media playback from a thumb drive, or you could use a Western Digital WDTV device or similar media player.
    There is no one-size-fits-all suggestion for the "best" results, however I would start with the H.264 format and then choose a preset to match your needs (1080p25). There are presets for AppleTV, YouTube, Vimeo, or just choose "HDTV 1080p25". The resulting file will have the .mp4 extension which is pretty universally accepted these days.
    Thanks

  • CatenateArrayItems returns incorrect character encoding

    I need to create a semicolon separated string from an array and I am using the catenateArrayItems function.
         var X = XMPUtils.catenateArrayItems(xmpData, IPTC_DC, "subject", '; ',  '"',  XMPConst.SEPARATE_ALLOW_COMMAS);
    This works, but if the values contain special characters (diacritics), the resulting string characters are not correct.  I don't have this problem when retrieving  simple propertues or when retrieving individual parts of the array, only when I use XMPUtils.catenateArrayItems.
    Example data:

                   <rdf:li>Это красивое описание красивое здание</rdf:li>
                </rdf:Bag>

    Results from

    Did you set the text file to UTF-8 encoding?
    This works for me Greg...
    var file = new File(Folder.desktop + "/Test Keywords.txt");
    file.open("e", "TEXT", "????");
    $.os.search(/windows/i)  != -1 ? file.lineFeed = 'windows'  : file.lineFeed = 'macintosh';
    file.encoding = "UTF8";

    var selectedFile = app.document.selections[0].spec;
    var myXmpFile = new XMPFile( selectedFile.fsName, XMPConst.UNKNOWN, XMPConst.OPEN_FOR_READ);
    var xmp = myXmpFile.getXMP();
    var count = xmp.countArrayItems(XMPConst.NS_DC, "subject");
    var Keys='';

  • Super annoying bug: Premiere Pro CC (and probably older versions) encoding/exporting window keeps stealing focus while working

    This is something that has caused me to lose a lot of hair due to pulling it:
    1. Open Premiere Pro on Windows (8.1, but that hardly matters, I think).
    2. Open some video.
    3. Export (encode) it to the desktop. The encoding/exporting child-window starts showing the progress bar as it works.
    4. Click the bottom-right corner of the screen to show your desktop.
    5. Now open any folder on the desktop, such as a dir called "test".
    6. Does the Explorer window showing the "test" dir open, as expected? Nope! Instead, Premiere Pro goes: "HEY! What's up?! I'm gonna push myself in front of everything and show you this export/encoding child window as well as the main Premiere Pro window in front of everything! What do you think about that? Heh-heh! Whatever you tried to open is now in the background and I'm in the foreground!"
    For the entire remainder of the encoding/exporting process, which can sometimes take hours, I am therefore crippled and cannot do any real work on my computer because Premiere Pro insists on force-showing itself against my will whenever I try to do anything else. This makes working with the computer while Premiere Pro is working (when I can't use the program anyway!) impossible. I'm left to Alt-tabbing around applications if I want to be able to do anything at all.
    Without a doubt, I'm not the first person to be annoyed by this. In fact, I'm 99.99% sure that Adobe is well aware of this. Still, I have to make an attempt at reporting this, because it's crippled me every day for the last few years and made me really, really angry. I primarily associate Premiere Pro with frustration and anger at this point. I really hope there is a hidden preference to turn this madness off or something.
    I predict that somebody will be tempted to respond with something along the lines of: "Use the Media Encoder!". Well, I don't like the Media Encoder. I want nothing to do with the Media Encoder. I just wanna use Premiere Pro and not have it steal focus against my explicit wishes.
    Please tell me this is possible somehow. And please don't tell me to report this to Adobe with some form. I'm reporting it here and now, thanks. Plus, once again, I'm sure they know about this already. (If they don't, they aren't using their own software.)

    I only asked two questions of you!!!
    Both  of them intended to get to a solution for you from understanding your workflow... .
    Sheesh.
    Don't understand why you put up with something that's made you go crazy"for years" and yet never mentioned by anyone else!
    He's doing a Direct Export, not going through AME.  That calls up a small dialog showing the progress of the export.  Kind of like when you render.
    I still don't know how that is done or how one even accesses a "direct export" option/menu.

  • HDV export compression encoder, settings to burn 16:9 DVD-Rs

    What export encoder and settings should I use to simply
    burn SD 16:9 DVD-Rs from my Sony HDV 1080i 55 min. FCP HDV sequences in DVD Studio Pro?

    Take a look at your preferences options.
    You can set encoding rates there.
    I really don't know what you are asking about shortcuts to burning.
    My suggestion is to read through the manual, and do the tutorials, and then get Martin Sitter's Visual QuickStart book, and memorize it.
    Visit here as well.

  • Export to PDF from Infoview does not show correct data - CRS 2008

    I have a problem where users attempt to export a report from the Infoview interface to a PDF.  The report shows correctly in Infoview while in Crystal Reports format, but when the use exports the data, the data changes and shows different values.  To troubleshoot, I have tried this on different clients - without a change in the result.  I have also pulled the latest instance of the report from this history on the Central Management Console.  Interestingly enough, the same thing happens when I export to a PDF from there as well.  Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hello,
    I can't tell you offhand on what the issue is here, as various factors come into play.
    Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
    - Try opening the report in Crystal Report designer and export to pdf from there. Does this work?
    - Instead of viewing the report and export; schedule a report to PDF and check the results.
    - there is currently a know issue in regards of certain formulas and using font type "arial Unicode MS" that gives incorrect export to pdf. Maybe alter the font used.. or see if you take out any questionable formulas and try again to export.

  • Premiere Pro to Media Encoder Link mysteriously stopped working

    I have CS6 Master Collection on a Windows 7x64 Ultimate HP Z820, 32 GB RAM, Quadro 4000, and have been using it for over a year. I use Premiere Pro and batch Queue to Media Encoder for encoding. The last time I used this workflow for batch was about 130 days ago, and it worked like a charm (like it should). A couple of weeks ago, I was on another project and tried to batch again, just like before, even using some of the same presets (on a 'nothin fancy' timeline) and Pr would create a project file in the TEMP folder after I pressed the Queue button, and AME would launch, and the project would appear in the AME queue. I'd press start, and wait a long time, until finally in the Encorder panel, I'd see "Connecting to Dynamic Link Server...", after several minutes, I'd get the goat, and find an error of "Could not read source file..." in the logs. After verifying the source was indeed there, I decided this was really a dynamic link issue.
    Here are a few more data points from things I've tried (also pointing to a dynamic link issue).
    (1) Exporting (encoding) directly from Pr works fine (so the headless AME is working)
    (2) Importing a Pr Sequence within AME does not work either, I get an error from the Import Premiere Pro Sequence dialog (after a long wait “Connecting to Dynamic Link server…”) that “Connecting to Dynamic Link server failed”.
    I do suspect this is a dynamic link issue, but don't know why, or what has changed. I've tried the 'create a new Premiere shortcut in dynamiclink folder' solution found on the forums and Google, but it didn't work. When I first tried that, I did find two shortcuts already there, one for Pr and one for Ae, but BOTH of them pointed to a CS4 folder! I've never owned CS4, and went from CS3 Design Professional to CS6 Master Collection. I also suspect this issue was caused by one of the updates to Pr that occurred within the last 130 days (since the last time I know this functionality worked). I've made not changes to my system during that time.
    Kyle suggested that it could be firewall problem blocking the TCP traffic used by dynamic link, but I do not use Windows Firewall, and all of this happens on a single machine, so there should be no TCP traffic across the wire (unless it is communicating with Adobe?). I use Webroot Endpoint Protection, but have received no indication that anything is suspect or has been blocked. Any help from the Adobe engineers would be greatly appreciated.
    I'd be willing to assist with troubleshooting on my system, as I've done with Audition in the past, but really don't want to uninstall the suite and go through that again. This should be tracked down by looking at the updates pushed out to CS6 withing the last 130 days. I think there have been two.
    Thanks,
    Shane

    I've resolved my problem thanks to post by @gagneh on this forum. It turned out to be the NVidia nView Desktop Manager applet found in the Control Panel. It was enabled, and I believe it has been enabled for a long time. I don't know if something in a recent update broke things, but as soon as I disabled the Desktop Manager, my dynamic link started working again in all aspects. Give it a try. Good luck.

  • Export arabic character into csv file turns into question mark in sql dev

    Hi,
    I am trying to export a table's output that contains some arabic and english mixed data, when I try to export it in csv, all the arabic characters change into question mark (?) but the same export is working fine on .xls or .xlsx.
    Since we have to export a huge data and csv is much faster thar .xls, kindly let me know why it is happening and what is the solution for this.
    Well, we are on Oracle 11gR2 and Sql Dev is 3.1
    Appreciate your time and experience sharing.
    Regards.

    Hi,
    Since you say it works for xls but not csv, and the only applicable preference setting ( Tools|Preferences|Database|Utilities|Export|Encoding ) should apply to all export formats, I would imagine this is a bug. Especially if the encoding specified in Preferences is consistent with the client OS settings. I was not able to find any prior bug logged against the Export utility for this issue.
    I logged a bug for this:

    I have tried replacing "utf-16" by "iso-8859-1 " . The interface works . But at the recieving end , ie external web application , the German umlauts appear as some garbage values .
    I know we need to enforce encoding . I have tried with the following code but could not suceed . The encoding appears as "utf-16".
    Following is the section of code which I have written in BSP application.
      Daten in DOM-Baum wandeln
        CALL FUNCTION 'SDIXML_DATA_TO_DOM'
          EXPORTING
            name        = 'DATA'
            dataobject  = ls_cr_xml
          IMPORTING
            data_as_dom = if_dom
          CHANGING
            document    = if_document
          EXCEPTIONS
            OTHERS      = 1.
        IF sy-subrc NE 0.
          error_out text-f47 text-f48 space space.
        ENDIF.
      DOM-Baum in Character-Stream wandeln
        if_pixml = cl_ixml=>create( ).
        IF if_pixml IS INITIAL.
          error_out text-f50 text-f53 space space.
        ENDIF.
        if_pstreamfact = if_pixml->create_stream_factory( ).
        IF if_pstreamfact IS INITIAL.
          error_out text-f51 text-f53 space space.
        ENDIF.
        if_postream = if_pstreamfact->create_ostream_cstring( string = xml_doc ).
        IF if_pstreamfact IS INITIAL.
          error_out text-f52 text-f53 space space.
        ENDIF.
    --Encoding--
    data: gv_str type string.
    data: gv_l_xml_encoding type ref to if_ixml_encoding.
    data gv_l_resultb type boolean.
    gv_str = 'ISO-8859-1' .
    clear gv_l_xml_encoding.
          call method if_pixml->create_encoding
            EXPORTING
              byte_order    = 0
              character_set = gv_str
            RECEIVING
              rval          = gv_l_xml_encoding.
          clear gv_l_resultb.
          call method gv_l_xml_encoding->set_character_set
            EXPORTING
              charset = gv_str
            RECEIVING
              rval    = gv_l_resultb.
            call method if_document->set_encoding
            EXPORTING
              encoding = gv_l_xml_encoding.
    ----Append child -
    CALL METHOD if_document->append_child
          EXPORTING
            new_child = if_dom
          RECEIVING
            rval      = lv_return.
        IF lv_return NE 0.
          error_out text-f47 text-f49 space space.
        ENDIF.
    --Render the XML data to output stream--
        CALL METHOD if_document->render
          EXPORTING
            ostream = if_postream.
    After this section of code is executed , the variable xml_doc  gets filled up with XML data .
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><DATA><ACTION>CREATE_TICKET</ACTION><CRI
    Can anybody help how to enforce encoding ?
