Incorrect Fixed duration in SNP PDS

Hi,
We are maintaining the capacity for “SNP Bucket Capacity” with number of periods as 7 days for resources in SAP APO.
However when we CIF the PDS the fixed duration for the activity is getting populated as 1 Day instead of 7 Days.
I have attached the document with setting for reference, request you to provide your input to resolve the issue.

Hi Raja,
Unlike PPDS planning (time-continuous planning), the least time bucket in SNP planning (bucket oriented planning) is a day, not seconds. Which is why the duration of individual activities in SNP PDS are planned in days only. Scheduling in SNP is based on the fixed duration of an activity and not based on order quantity or capacity load. If a plan contains 3 activities each with fixed duration of 1 day, then the SNP planned order will have duration of 3 days.
On the other hand in PPDS, the duration of an acitivity is calculated based on the resource load that generates the order quanitity, which means larger the qty to be produced, the longer the duration of the activity.

Can we use SNP PDS in Multi level ATP ?

We do CTM planning with existing SNP PDS In APO and now we want to explore to use the Multi level ATP functionality for GATP. I know, MATP can create the ATP trees if the stock is not available and these can be converted into PPDS order.
My question is, can we use SNP PDS for this purpose?

Hi Abhilasha,
There is no such specific mention anywhere in the literature that you cannot use SNP PDS for MATP. The only downside to using SNP PDS is that SNP PDS are meant for mid to long term planning and the activities/operations in SNP PDS are usually not in detail i.e only important activities or bottle neck components are usually used which will not always facilitate detailed scheduling.
On the other hand MATP creates ATP tree structures by plan exlosion(which can be SNP/PDS) and saves the requirements groups(component requirements of header level) with dates/qts and source of supply. It uses PPDS component to convert these ATP tree structures into PPDS planned orders depending on the conversion horizon/requirements dates. It does that by reading the source of supply, requirements dates and quantities from ATP tree structure and by plan explosion.
When MATP planned orders are created you should no longer plan them with automatic planning run as that will cause re-explosion of the plan and might cause incorrect down stream requirements if you had had substitutions at component leve during MATP check. In planned orders, you have an option of changing the allowed sources of supply (in source of supply section). But for orders created by MATP, you will not be allowed to change the source of supply field from SNP PDS to PPDS PDS in the planned order because it will re-explode the plan. So you can decide for yourself if you can use SNP PDS as source of supply for PPDS planned orders.

Master recipes operations not getting transfered in SNP PDS to APO from R3

Hello APO Gurus,
I am trying to transfer SNP PDS for master receipes from R3 to APO.
Issue description::
The operation is not getting transfered correctly , some system default operation "010 generated Operation (from Planned Delive)" is getting generated in APO, also activity and resource capacity is not getting transfered. This situation exist for one plant 1000, for other plant 1100 the SNP PDS created correctly.
i have following points:
1. Is there some customizing setting missing on R3 or APO side for plant 1000 tbefore SNP PDS transfer
2. What need to be checked on master recipes data in R3,
i have checked on below points
1. FG Materials and all the Component Material to be in APO in a Active Integration Model.
2. BOM & Routing and Production Version setup correctly.
3. The Routing Operations have to Relevant to 'SCHEDULING'.
4. Try deleting the existing Integration model for materials & re-create new IM & activate.
Please help me to send SNP PDS correctly to APO to take heuristic run.

Hi,
It is good that you have given your already checked points.
Please check the following things also and try to retransfer the PDS.
1. Check your resource in ECC, whether you have maintained the Process formula.
2. Check you have maintained some values in Master Recipe for processing time
3. Check whether the resource has been transferred for your plant 1000 to APO and an active IM exists.
4. Also check the type of the resource transferred to APO. It should be a single-mixed/ multi-mixed or bucket resource.

Fixed duration tasks and time budget

I am fighting with MS Project 2013 and cant figure out how to do this task:
I am creating a schedule for a project. It is to be used as an estimate for planning purposes.
What I want to do is list a number of Fixed Duration tasks and assign the task a budget in hours (For example the task may span 2 weeks duration but the amount of budgeted work days may only be 4 days the work can be done anytime during the 2 week period).
I am guessing I can choose one of the 'built in' columns to capture the work budget for the task, but which one????
Then I want to assign some people with a percentage of their time/week to each task. (I know how to do this...)
Finally I want to add a column that will display, for each task, if the people I have assigned (with their respective % work) will be less than, equal to, or greater than the budgeted hours for that task. I don't know how to do this...any pointers???
Any help is really appreciated.

On a Fixed Duration task, when you change the Duration, Microsoft Project ALWAYS recalculates the Work. This is the default behavior of the software, and you cannot change this behavior.
Oh, I thought it could be changed.....oh well....
My intention with the Work Difference column is: Given I have a task that is planned to span a number of weeks and the actual amount of work hrs is specified and less than the number of days in the task duration, I want to be able to show in the work difference
column the difference between the estimated work days for the task compared to the number and allocated percentage of time of resources assigned to that task.
For example: task duration is 2 weeks. actual work is 4 days. Two ppl are assigned to the task, each at 20% of their time. So, 2 ppl *(40 hrs*0.2) = 16 hrs of work, would be less than the actual work of 4days*8hr/day = 32 hrs.
In the duration column I'd see 4 days and looking at the work difference column I'd see 2.0 days, and I would know that I need to increases resources or add more time availability to the existing resources.
Why is this useful to me? In my world, (for project estimating purposes), people are assigned multiple projects so they split their time accordingly. When we are estimating another project, and consider resources for that project, we generally
get a percentage of their time. Often the smaller sub-tasks can be worked in parallel so people can work efficiently. If person X can only spend 20% of their time on a task, and the task requires more work, then we can bring another person on the
task to make up the difference for the budgeted work. I can look down the Work Difference column and immediately tell if we have enough effort on the project to accomplish the tasks and the entire project.

Split SNP PDS using BADI /SAPAPO/CURTO_SNP Method CIF_IMPORT

Hello APO ABAP experts,
The requirement is to split SNP PDS based on the number of modes. Meaning, the PDS should have only Mode per Activity in the Operations.
My plan was to change the changing internal tables in the method CIF_IMPORT to create number of SNP PDS depending up on Modes. But, i am not sure whether it is possible or not. Please suggest.
Note: BADI will be triggered once per each PDS.

Let me explain you what i am doing:
Since i need to split one PDS into multiple PDS, I am changing the fields EXT_PLANNR and EXT_NAME just by appending a counter. Once after i change them, adding the entries to the changing internal tables (CT_*). At the end of CIF_IMPORT, i am deleting the original PDS entries.
Example code:
LOOP AT ct_planactz INTO ls_planactz.
    ls_planactz-ext_plannr = lv_new_ext_plannr.
    APPEND ls_planactz TO lt_planactz.
ENDLOOP.
APPEND LINES OF lt_planactz TO ct_planactz.
Right now, for testing purpose - i am not splitting the PDS. I am just trying to create 2 SNP PDS by using one PDS. I want to test my code first to create multiple PDS.
When doing this, i get the following error:

Fixed Duration Tasks work hours not updating properly

I have a task of 2 days duration which is fixed duration; with 1 resource assigned when it is 30%, I add 2 more resources to it as even though duration is same work hours need to be increased. But I don't see any impact on work even when 2 resources
are added. M I missing something

Just check if the check box - Effort Driven is checked for that task, as in this case whatever are the hours in Work field that gets equally distributed between all resouces (in your case the newly added and existing resource). Uncheck that box
and then assign resources; this should fix your calculations for the expected hrs. adding to Work field.

Changing & deleting the SNP PDS planned order in APO using BAPI

Hi,
There is a requirement to consolidate the SNP PDS planned order created from CTM in APO. This is to change one of the SNP PDS planned order by adding the quantities of the other planned order , which is to make it into one & delete the other SNP PDS planned order. Can this be done progrmatically using BAPI?. As we know this cant be changed in RRP3 as the SNP-PDS are uneditable.Please help me on this one. As I need the solution to this ASAP.
Is there any BAPI/FM using which SNP PDS planned order can be changed? What is the BAPI for PPDS planned order creation / change?

I have gone through the description of the FM it says:
This function module is complex and is subject to several technical restrictions. For this reason, you should not use ORDER_CHANGE for extended periods of time.
The recommended alternatives are:
OM_ORDER_CREATE
for creating orders
OM_ORDER_DELETE
for deleting orders
OM_ORDER_MODIFY
for changing existing order components
Have you used these FM any time?.Kindly share more details in case is you have used them.

Switch between SNP-PPM and SNP-PDS

Hi,
In APO I have both SNP-PPM and SNP-PDS, but right now I am having some trouble with the bucket time from the PDS so I am trying to temporarly change my PDS to PPM.
My query is:
- Is there a way in APO to make the SNP-PPM the default production model over theSNP- PDS?
I was searching for some kind of documentation on this topic and I found that I should change the priority for the PDS throught the PDS_MAINT transaccion in ECC, is this the only way to do it?

SNP heuristics planning source determination gives first preference to Quota arrangement.
You may include PDS as a source of supply in the inbound quota arrangement of the product.
There is a BADI BAdI /SAPAPO/PWB_SOS to modify the content and the sequence of the sources of supply in the ranking list.
The normal ranking list for SNP source determonation is as below:
Quota arrangements
Procurement priority
Procurement costs
Procurement type
There are two other BADIs releveant as below:
u2022 /SAPAPO/CURTO_SNP ) Enhancements When Creating an SNP PDS (R/3) (Generation)
u2022 /SAPAPO/CULLRTOSNP ) Change SNP/CTM Production Data Structure Data (Generation)

Configuring SI Read to read for fixed duration?

Is there a way to configure Sound Input Read so that it reads data from the soundcard for a fixed duration of time? For example, if I want to record for only 17 milliseconds once a trigger from another VI is given, how should I go about it?

Hey Keshav,
You could try creating a case structure with a trigger activating the true command and therefore on a true output of a trigger you'll start acquiring.
For a better understanding of triggering, refer to Basic Level Triggering of Waveforms. This leads you to an example VI called Basic Level Triggering of Waveforms. The example shows how you can trigger a generated waveform in LabVIEW and the data output from the trigger.

If the assigned task type is Fixed Duration, assigning additional resources decreases the individual unit values for resources.
Why aren't the units set to 50% after I assigned Peter as 2nd resource?

I would have to agree with one of the comments regarding that article: (some parts of it below)
It might have been nice then if Microsoft had carried the Peak field into the Task Details form, as well as others since from these views only display the Assignment Units is not available in the Task Details view, it just looks like the product is broken.
Fixed duration 5 day task, 20 hours on each resouce (2 total), shows 100% Assignment units, just doesn't seem very intuitive.
At least now I can let it go (sort of)
The Peak fiels is my saviour I guess but:
I would still would like to understand the logic in when you add 4 resources one by one on a 10 day task the Units go like this:
1st =100%
2nd = 100%
3nd = 50%
4th=33 %

Creation of SNP PDS using planned delivery time

Dear Experts,
How do i control creation of PDS because of operaion generated from planned delivery time,although planed delivery ime is zero.
the scenario is as follows:
Material :XXXXX
Planned Delivery time
Procurement Type:E
Plant:XXXX
in transaction /sapapo/curto_simu: there are two PDS displayed with PDS usage as PDS for Supply Network Planning(SNP)
the first one is because of operation generated fromm planned delivery time,output qty is the same a s that maintained as base qty in BOM and mode is blank,activity field is even blank.
the other PDS is created because of the valid production version in R/3.

Thanx for a quick revert.
Yes we are using reciepe and we have a valid PDS being generated because of Production Version.
The problem lies with the creation of other PDS from planned delivery time whereinplanned delivery time is zero.I want a resolution so as the system doesnot create thses PDS which are invalid in nature.
These invalid PDS are hamperring result out of SNp optimizer for the reason these are considered in the input log of optimizer.

Zen micro: mine displays incorrect track duration t

I've had my zen mirco since january 2005, and i've noticed that a bunch of the tracks display the incorrect duration time...usually by around 40 seconds. for example, windows (and windows media player) will say a track is 6:02 duration and zen explorer and the device itself will say the duration is 5:35.
in fact, a bunch of my songs on my zen micro say that the duration time is 0:00 when they clearly are not. when these tracks are played on the device, the track time bar is completely full and plays normally.
has anyone else noticed problems with duration times?
although all the songs play normally (ie. they dont get cut off) its just annoying that i payed so much money for a device that shows incorrect information. and when i try to skim through a track that shows 0:00 duration, it just skips to next song when i press the >> button. weird huh?

As per the FAQ, it's down to the ears of the individual. You might prefer a particular codec or bit-rate, whereas someone else might not like it. It's best to experiment for yourself.
In terms of MP3 though, LAME is widely acknowledged as being the better codec for high bit-rate music encoding. Most rippers can be configured to use this.

Fixed pegging with SNP heuristic

I have a requirement from the client and to achieve this i wanted SNP heuristic to consider fixed pegging created manually.
So i have the below doubts:
1. Do SNP Heuristic consider the manual fixed pegging. I tested the scenario but its not working.
2. Is there a work around to it.

The above situation after SNP planning run.

Receipt                    10
2nd table is after pushing the receipt to wk2 manually.Now when i ran SNP heuristic, its creating another receipt on wk1 of 10, which is a situation of excess supply.
I do not want heuristic to create another receipt for wk1. Manual fixing can help, if heuristic will consider it.
