Incorrect font display in pdf document(web view)

I am encountering a very peculiar problem with incorrect display of fonts in pdf documents when viewed in a web browser. Briefly, the problem typically affects the first page of a pdf document, the font being displayed as an unidentified mix of large and very small, skinny type. Other pages may or may not be affected, and if one back-clicks to the previous page the text often displays the correct font, so the problem is in some (but not all) cases non-persistent. The problem however is resolved completely if I uncheck the 'display pdf in browser' option under edit>preferences in adobe reader. Fonts I use include Arial, Cambria, Franklin Gothic Book, and Garamond; as straight-up pdfs, the documents look fine. FYI, I have Adobe reader X 10.0.1 (Win 7) and 9.0 (Win XP sp3) installed on two different machines. Firefox 3.6 and IE9 are equally at fault. FWIW, all the pdf documents begin life as MS Word or Publisher 2010 documents, which are converted to pdf within these applications before publishing to web. Since I can't control how people choose to view web pdfs, I'm concerned that display of the prone documents is impaired when viewed in a web browser.
Not sure if this is a reader, browser, or distiller problem but this seems a logical place to start looking for answers. Any thoughts?

I've also had problems printing with Reader X.
When printing an attachment from an email in Outlook, if I don't open the attachment first, sometimes it doesn't print correctly as everything shows with the following number or letter. Example 12345 will print as "23456" and invoice will show as "jowpjdf". Even if I open the attachment, sometimes it will print the first page ok, but the next pages will "mppl mjlf uijt".
Never had this problem with previous versions.

Change font in a PDF document

Hi there!
I would like to change the font on a PDF document 'cause I have to take out some parts of it (copy into a .doc or similar)
The problem is when I do it, the original font is not recognized by text processor (stranges symbols appear).
I´m trying to change the font in Adobe Acrobat Pro, but I can´t edit It; the programm says that (not exactly, ´cause its in Spanish)
"The font change has not be done because the chosen font and the document´s fonts codification are different and It cant be solved."
Clicking on pdf´s properties, I see these fonts:
R11
R277
R677
All them are "personalize" codification and type 3.
I hope some in this forum could help me, ´cause I really need to extract some text of this PDF for work stuff.

I see where you can see fonts in Acrobat 9 Pro under Document Properties. But the poster was trying to help guide you in the right direction. Don't be malicious towards people who are here to HELP you.

Particular font for entire pdf document

Can i set a particular font for entire pdf document while designing pdf forms in LiveCycle Designer ES?
How can i do it?

Each object has its own settings for font. You can set the object to the font that you want and then drag it back onto the palette. It will ask you to overwrite the current one. As you drag the object back into the drawing area the new font will be used. This is true aof all properties of the object and not just font.
This is useful if you are creating a new form, but if one already exists then the easiest way is to open the XML source (right mouse click on the Design tab and choose XML source. Use the search facility to find all occurances of typeface and chnage each one to the font that you want. Save the XML and then all objects will have the same font.
Make sure that you make a backup of th eform before you play with the XML. There is no undo once the cahnges are committed.

Display word/pdf document in the HTML region or report

Hi,
How to display blob content stored in a table in HTML region or report region.
I already have a process to display the image content.
But my question here is how to display word/pdf document within the html region so that the user can read the document without downloading it.
Any suggestions/solutions would be of great help.

I was dead wrong.
The display of images from BLOB is a special case because APEX provides a Display Image item type.
Moreover, HTP/HTF packages also do not provide for handling of BLOB content. So AJAX cannot be used.
Which implies that the only way to get binary content, other than images, is with the use of a WPG_DOCLOAD.DOWNLOAD_FILE call.
This in turn implies that it may not be feasible to "inject" the BLOB into an exist HTML DOM in the Browser.

Display a PDF Document from a standard transacction

Hi.
I need to display a PDF document located in a server outside SAP. The idea is to implement a menu exit and add a new button to a standard transaction. When the user press the new button a PDF document must be displayed.
I want to know if this solution is possible and if you know any function in SAP to display a PDF document.

Poor Fonts Display in PDF

I am trying to figure out if the font display problem I am having has something to do with Fusion 4 (v15.0.5) Acrobat (vCS5.5) or Mac OS X (v10.8.3). I am using an iMac 27 inch.
When I view fonts in other applications (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, TextEdit, MSWord, etc.) they look fine at any distance on screen. But when I generate a PDF, either from with the application or via Acrobat Distiller, they look poor on screen at reduced or 100% of size. Sort of jaggedy but not truly jagged. When I zoom in really close the fonts look fine. I am primarily using Open Type and Postscript fonts. But this happens with any fonts. They are embedded and it prints out just fine. When I view any PDF documents downloaded from the Internet, it is the same things. Just the screen display is bad.
Any ideas how I can resolve this?

Check what you have set for: Acrobat > Preferences > Page Display > Smooth Text

Starnge Fonts displaying in PDF using 10.1.3

While using reader version 10.1.3 on OS Windows 7 the PDF reader is displaying strange characters.
Copying an Pasting the strange font into google produces legible font.
Fonts used in this document are as follows:
Arial
Arial Bold
Helvetica
Printing as Image does not correct this issue. And it will occurr intermittently with the issue clearing up only for a couple of documents.
Please let me know if you need any more information. I appreciate your insights.

By JSF screens, I assume you mean pages?Sorry, I meant JSF web pages.
Quick question. Are you noticing this just for JSF or with JSP in general?We're only doing JSF development with JDev 10.1.3, so I don't know about the JSP pages.
Do you have an average size of your JSF pages? Are they very large? (hundreds of lines?)No the JSF pages are very small. Once project a developer is working on has 3 pages. The page lines for the three pages are 313 lines, 70 lines, and 85 lines.
Are you using ADF Faces or just the base, RI component libraries (JSF Core,HTML)?We are using ADF Faces.
Have you tried just opening them in the code editor? You can switch to the code editor and from then JDeveloper will remember to open the file in the code editor.We're doing most of the development in the code editor. We don't use the gui layout much. After we drag/drop controls in the structure window we may look at the screen to see what it looks like.
Another thing you can do is turn off the tag execution which renders JSF UI Components in the visual designer.We'll try this and report back.

Making sure fonts travel with PDF document

I use Adobe CS2 which is old but still works for me. When I want to create a PDF, I choose ADOBE PDF from the printer menu, and output to a file. How can I be sure that what I see on my computer will display the same on someone else's computer?

To elaborate:
1. If you have Acrobat, check File: Properties: Fonts. See if all fonts are embedded. Embedded Subset is default, which is acceptable.
2. If possible disable the document fonts on your computer, then view the PDF. If the fonts still display properly you should be OK.
3. You can also view the PDF on another computer to ensure the fonts display properly.

Is it possible to display a pdf document in flash?

I'm not that familiar with flex/flash but i was wondering if it's possible to display a native pdf document in flash. If so are any add-on's required or does flex/flash have that capability built in. Essentially I would be trying to create a pdf viewer in flex that allows users to markup documents and save them to the server for others to view. I'm just in the discovery phase of this project, so any guidance would be great.

No text displayed in PDF Document

I just inserted a static text in the PDF Document (Font: ARIAL).
Adobe Document Designer shows this text on the preview tab but
the downloaded PDF Document is empty.
Only the graphical elements like circles are displayed but no text.
System-Details:
SAP ERP Central Component 5.0
Release 640 Non-Unicode
Adobe Designer Version 6.0
Do you have any ideas?
I just found the note 715599 but this refers to UNICODE Systems.

But the document only describes the conversion of SAP Script into PDF file.
The OTF output of the SAP Script is converted to PDF by using the function module CONVERT_OTF.
Do I have any other possibilities to access and download the PDF Document without using SAP Script?
I already created the PDF Interface and PDF Form by using the "Form Builder" (Transaction SFP).
My program shall access and download this Form.
This works almost but all of the text information is obviously lost. All of the graphical information is displayed in the downloaded document.

PDF Fast Web View not working in Firefox

I am using qpdf to convert PDF to linearized PDF files. The Byte requests are working on Chrome and Internet explorer but its not working on Firefox.
Firefox 18.0.2 (On Windows)
Adobe Acrobat reader - 10.1.4.38
Adobe Reader's (Edit > Preferences >)

Allow speculative downloading in the background - Enabled
Display PDF in Browser - Enabled

What do you mean by not displaying properly?
I checked it on my computer in Firefox and it looks good.

BEx broadcasting: Font types in pdf-documents

Hi folks,
I got a report designed in BEx report designer. In this report I use certain font types. However, when I broadcast this report to our SAP Netweaver Portal as pdf these font types get lost, i.e. the texts in the generated pdf-documents are in other fonts. Do I have to install these fonts on our system? If so, how can this be done? Where can I see the current standard fonts on our system?

Dear Thomas,
After creating a report in Report Designer,just go to Report->Execute.
This will open that report in Web Analyzer.Just check whether your font types are shown as you configured in the report.
If this works as expected,then you will get a report with configured fonts, after you broadcasted into portal.
Make sure that you made teh following settings for the report while broadcasting
Distribution Type : Broadcast to the Portal
Output Format : PDF
Under "General Precalculation" tab,
Portal Theme: SAP Standard
Proper "Layout" tab options.
Hope this will help you.

PDF document inline view Issue with Chrome

I am facing an issue with the below procedure which should fetch and display PDF document in the browser.
It displays properly on IE 9. But no luck in Chrome. Shows junk.
What am I missing? Meanwhile report BLOB column link inline download is working fine with Chrome. I use this proc to popup a new window and display PDF in it.
Any help is appreciated.

Can I embed fonts in a pdf document?

I wish to publish a Pages document and to do this I need to convert it to pdf and ensure that my fonts can be embedded into the pdf document. I am not sure how to proceed. How do you embed fonts in PDF from Pages 4.1?

Preview does a nice job of embedding fonts. You can open a pdf with non-embedded fonts in Preview and then print->save as pdf creates one with fonts embedded. I had seen this in MacOSX Hints originally and it works for me.
For seeing what fonts are embedded (or not), pdffonts is a very nice utility, which i think now comes with poppler, or you can build from their git.
