Incorrect font in Preview

Every now and again I have an issue with the incorrect fonts showing in Preview but not in Adobe Acrobat. Instead of showing what I think should be Arial of Helvetica it shows in an rounded italic font.
Any ideas?

Ah ha, I've found what the problem was. I had a font called "Helvetica" in Linotype Explorer X which was showing up in the program as Helvetica Rounded Italic for some strange reason. So Preview must have been reading from that and displaying incorrectly. I've deleted the problem font and all is good.

  • Incorrect Fonts When "Printing" Webpage to .pdf

When I "print" a webpage to a .pdf file, I occasionally get an incorrect font.  For example, if I print a Wikipedia page, the font in the saved file will be Times New Roman.  The font on the webpage looks to be Arial.  I'm assuming it is a setting in the Adobe Printer preferences.  I just can't seem to find the right setting.  Any help is appreciated.

If the web page does not have a printable view option (a print button or printer icon that you can click on), then it is formatted for screen only. These types of sites often do not print nicely. The only alternative, is to try and select the parts that you want to print and then copy and paste them into a word processor or text editor for printing.

  • Incorrect font display in dashboard = font problems everywhere?

My G4 Silverdoor been hanging and freezing A LOT! Sometimes, several times in a day. When I run Disk Warrior, the most frequent error is incorrect font encoding. I run all of the repairs, and the problems reappear.
In Dashboard, several widgets have incorrect appearance for their bold titles (e.g., Systran tranlation & AccuWeather), so they look like hollow fill with white strokes. Re-installing the fonts does not remedy the problem. Re-installing the system does not remedy the problem. What is probaly wrong, and how can I fix it?

One other thing, perhaps a Finder problem of sorts. I was often freezing while trying to stream Flash content. When I ejected my ohter three internal drives, the freezes ceased. Does this indicate a problem with one of the drives (they test out okay), or some other aspect of my setup?

Well, let's say this is solved, though not properly.
If you encounter a "no show" problem like mine, it may be an issue involving theme multi-compatibility with gtk2, 3, metacity and the like.
Try switching to another theme to see if your system better "support" it, or use separate themes for gtk2 and gkt3.

'custom' font sounds like you may be working with a font that is unsupported on iOS/iPad.
Supported fonts are found in the pull-down font menu in the toolbar. Authors are obligated (mostly) to stick to that list.

  • Font in Preview blurry

In Yosemite, when I look at a pdf file in Preview the fonts are blurry compared to Mavericks. The upper image below is a screenshot using Mavericks, and the lower one is from Yosemite.
I tried fiddling with LCD font smoothing in preferences, and restarting, but nothing changed. Anyone else having this issue, and maybe found a solutions?

Dear Stuart Field and concerned Apple staff,
Apparently it is because the anti-aliasing algorithm used by Preview.app in Yosemite is incorrect.
The same problem has been raised and discussed recently on other sites including Reddit and StackExchange.
A comparison of the same PDF viewed in 10.9 and 10.10 can be seen below (images taken from this post).
10.9 (correct and beautiful with colorful shadow):
and on 10.10 (weird, grey shadow):
Presumably this bug is coming from the incorrect adjustment for Mac family with retina display.
Note that this bug does NOT happen in Safari, which is quite amusing.
    Sincerely,
    Leo

  • Pdf created with Mathematica 9 misses font in preview

    Dear all,
I have installed a new font called 'Arev Sans' in Regular, Italic and Bold face. It works fine in Keynote and Mathematica and all other programs so far. Now I did an Export of a plot in mathematica and tried to look at the created pdf with Preview. It turns out, that only the Italic and Bold fonts of Arev Sans are shown in the correct way. The Regular face is substituted by another font. Unfortunately this is the same if I try to include the plot in keynote, which is bad because I want to use the Arev font in my presentation. However, if I open the pdf with Acrobat Readrer the fonts are ok.
Does anyone have a suggestion what to do? Would be great!

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
    Mac 101: Font Book
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case only, after running Font Book, launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. After running the command, reboot as usual.

I did as you suggested and there are no errors after the valdiation with Font Book.
Yes Regular is listed against Arev.
Actually, the font works in Keynote and also in Mathematica. The problem occurs just when I do the Export from Mathematica and include the created pdf into Keynote (or likewise open it with Preview). It seems to me that there is an issue with the font coming from Mac Os...

  • How can I change annotation font in Preview?

    Hi,
To view PDF text files, I am using Preview, which seems to me far better than Adobe Pro.
The only problem I have with Preview is the font size in "note" option in annotation function.
It is just too small for me. Is there any way that I can change the font size in "note"?
I know I can change font size in "text" option, but I almost gave up how to do in 'note' after searching the web for months.
    Help me plzzzzz...

This is a very old thread, but in case you stumble across this thread wondering how to change annotation or cursor fonts, it is possible.

  • Font weight preview in CC 2014

Is there any way to show just one weight in the font list like before (with a submenu dropdown for the weights) instead of the entire font family showing? Some font families have over a 100 weights and I don't want to scroll through 100 slightly-different versions of the same font... this considerably slows down my workflow when I just want to search for a nice font to use in my design :/

So, this was a bug they were trying to fix with 13.1 (and may have messed something up with your specific system), Adobe will want a bug report on your system. Give as much info as possible: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • How do I fix jagged fonts in Preview?

Something happened and now all the pdf-documents I open in Preview have really jagged fonts and terrible quality. I'm using OS X 10.6.8. This might have happened when I last updated the software, but I don't remember exactly. How do I fix this?

Wow, now I feel really stupid. I just found the "Smooth text and line art" and clicked that. Fixed the problem. Amazed.

  • Incorrect font display in pdf document(web view)

    Adobe helpers,
I am encountering a  very peculiar problem with incorrect display of fonts in pdf documents when viewed in a web browser. Briefly, the problem typically affects  the first page of a pdf document, the font being displayed as an unidentified mix of large and very small, skinny type.  Other pages may or may not be affected, and if one back-clicks to the previous page the text often displays the correct font, so the problem is in some (but not all) cases non-persistent.  The problem however is resolved completely if I uncheck the 'display pdf in browser' option  under edit>preferences in adobe reader. Fonts I use include Arial, Cambria, Franklin Gothic Book, and Garamond; as straight-up pdfs, the documents look fine. FYI, I have Adobe reader X 10.0.1 (Win 7) and 9.0 (Win XP sp3) installed on two different machines. Firefox 3.6 and IE9 are equally at fault. FWIW, all the pdf documents begin life as MS Word or Publisher 2010 documents, which are converted to pdf within these applications before publishing to web.   Since I can't control how people choose to view web pdfs, I'm concerned that display of the prone documents is impaired when viewed in a web browser.
Not sure if this is a reader, browser, or distiller problem but this seems a logical place to start looking for answers. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

I've also had problems printing with Reader X.
When printing an attachment from an email in Outlook, if I don't open the attachment first, sometimes it doesn't print correctly as everything shows with the following number or letter. Example 12345 will print as "23456" and invoice will show as "jowpjdf". Even if I open the attachment, sometimes it will print the first page ok, but the next pages will "mppl mjlf uijt".
Never had this problem with previous versions.

  • Sharing Indesign on CC show low-resolution images and not the right font in preview

    Dear Adobe,
I really want to make use of CC Files and the sharing ability with my clients. I have shared an Indesign file, whereas all the links in that indesign file are on CC Files too. The font is a regular Futura Std. But both the links in the files (background and logo) and the font used are not showing up correctly. I deleted the file and uploaded it again, but it is still showing a bad preview. This is not something I can share with my clients.
Am I doing something wrong? It appears that another Illustrator file is showing its preview in low-resolution and after 2 seconden it renders it at a higher resolution.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Fonts may not and links will not show up correctly in the image preview on the Files page. The preview being created on the server is not able to access the links, and only the default fonts are available.
You can export a PDF and share this with your clients (and you can always include a link to the InDesign files if the clients need to download them).
