Incorrect Format When Saving Stills - Bug?

Hi,
I have a QT movie exported from FCP which I opened in QT Pro 7.2 and tried to export a frame with "Movie to Picture", using Photo-JPEG. The still is always saved in a PICT format. I tried other formats like TIFF but the result is always the same - a PICT format, according to the still's icon and Preview. This issue seems to occur in all QT movies, whether exported from FCP or not.
Looks like a QT Pro bug to me. I do not have this problem with exporting frames from FCP.

Does this mean that the export is actually in the specified format despite its icon and or what?
The graphic is stored as a PCT file (i.e., in the PCT file format). The Photo-JPEG, TIFF, None, etc. drop down box allows you to set the "Compression" format for the data. For instance, if you select none, the saved PCT file will be on the order of 1.2 MBs. On the other hand, if you select the the Photo-JPEG option, the saved PCT file will be on the order of 120 KBs or 1/10th the file size.
However, no matter which compression format is used, the file will expand to its umcompressed size if dropped/added back to the movie in another physical location. To avoid a really big instantaneous bit rate for that one frame, you may prefer to simply copy a single frame within QT Pro (as explained by Radford) and paste it in a new desired location. On the other hand, if you are not re-inserting the graphic back into the file, you don't have to worry about any of this.

  • Photoshop Elements 8-Change of file format when saving deletes filename

I have been using Photoshop Elements 8 since last May and have always been irritated that when I add text to a photo it always defaults to PSD format for saving.  I have gone to the preference options to see if I can set jpg as the default and it does not offer that option.  This means that every time I save after adding text I have to manually select jpg to get the format to change.
Although this has been a pain, I have done it thousands of times as I have edited photos.
My problem is that suddenly from one day to the next when I change from PSD option to jpg the filename disappears and I have to go back and manually type in the whole filename.  The only changes to my computer settings that I can think of that might have affected this is that Microsoft Updates had 2 updates.  First was Definition for Windows Defender-KB915597 and the other was Unpdate for Windows 7 for x64 based systems-KB97690.
I saw a similar problem posted by sandwitch2 on Feb. 13th about PSE6.  99jon suggested the change to permissions of adding "everyone".  I tried this and it did not correct the problem.
    Any other suggestions are welcome.
I have found Adobe's insistance on saving as PSD irritating to say the least in the past.  The inability to change this in preferences has made me very unhappy, but the quality of their product has outweighed the hoops they make me jump through until this.  Their search feature in support is pretty much worthless.  It either brings up nothing if you keyword is to limiting or brings up 200 responses if it if too broad.
I have been a user of Photoshop Elements for over 6 years updating as new editions have come out. I am to the point that if I can't get this current problem fixed I am uninstalling Elements 8 and going to another software.  Adobe's proprietary requirements and poor support page are just too much of a pain to deal with.

I was told that if I save in PSD if I send the photos to share with others only those with Photoshop Elements can open the files.  That is why I try to use jpg.  Is that true?
Thanks for all the help from both of you,
    Bettye

  • How do i change the webpage file format when saving a webpage?

whenever i try to save a webpage it automatically does so using a chrome html format. windows does not recognize this format. how do i change it? thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by a "chrome html format."
I save pages all the time with Firefox 3.6.16 (and now 3.6.17) and have no problems.
When you select Save Page As, it opens a dialog window so that you can indicate where the page is to be saved.
In the Save as Type dropdown list are format options - "Web page, Complete", "Web Page, HTML only", and "text files"
If you select Web Page, Complete, Firefox saves the HTML file and creates a folder where it stores all the other files associated with the page. If you then open the HTML file, it should display properly in Firefox (or any other browser).,
If you select Web Page, HTML only, Firefox saves only the HTML file, no other files are saved.
If you select text files, Firefox saves only the text, it does not save any of the HTML. Basically, you get what you can see on the page without any of the formatting.
I've never seen an option, in Firefox 3, to save a file as a "chrome html format."
I've only see what I described above.
One other thing, I suggest you upgrade to Firefox 3.6.17. At 3.6.10 you are quite a way back and have missed some security updates.
I don't think you can use the update link under the Help menu, you may have to go to the Firefox site and download it manually. It would not hurt to look for some instructions as to how to go from 3.6.10 to 3.6.17.

    Hi Al,
I can't seem to reproduce the bold/highlighted link thing over here on my end. I have loaded your page on my Safari as well as on a PC using IE and FireFox. All looks okay.
Perhaps try emptying your browser cache and reload the page. Maybe this will clear some cobwebs and let you see the page properly. Good luck!

  • Incorrect Formatting when converting to .PDF

    Hi All,
I am experiencing an issue when converting a file to pdf when using pegasus opera program. This has been working fine for ages until the last week or so. My colleague is also using the same setup and it is working fine for her. When converting the file to pdf, it loses all formatting (such as tables and lines) and highlights all text with a black background. I have tried completely uninstalling all adobe products and reinstalling, and have tried the latest version as well as versions 9 and 10. Does anyone have any idea as to what may be causing this?.
    Many thanks,
    Gareth.

I recommend you find a forum for the product doing the converting, as it doesn't sound as if Adobe Reader is involved. Good luck!

  • Change in cell format when saving to excel

I'm a new Business Objects user. Since my upgrade to Office 2007, every time I save my report in excel one of the columns containing numbers that are displayed as text (ie 002895, 295512, etc) in desktop intelligence are being displayed as numbers with commas and 2 decimal places in excel and I am losing the zeros at the beginning of the numbers. I have tried formatting the rows in desktop intelligence under the formatting tab as standard, custom, numbers, etc but the formatting of the cells still results in the numbers with commas and decimal places. Can anyone help?

    Hello,
as you refer to Deski I recommend to post this query to the [BusinessObjects Desktop Intelligence|SAP BusinessObjects Desktop Intelligence; forum.
This forum is dedicated to topics related to the creation and design of Desktop Intelligence documents such as universe connectivity, prompts, charting, formatting, filter, and formulas. It is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
Also, all Desktop Intelligence queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.

  • Losing font format when saving to .doc

When I save a Pages document in Microsoft Word format (.doc), I loose all my italic. If I have a word in a paragraph in italic, it will loose its format, mainly because the style of the paragraph is set to be regular. Is there a way around this? Is there a way to have a different style only for a word in a paragraph?

Merci beaucoup pour cette information! I tried to use the pull down menu right next to the font in the tool bar and it worked (instead of the italic button in the B I U menu bar). I think it may have something to do with what you said (about ttf). But again I'm not sure, but I did use another PC to open the .doc. I'll mark this issue as solved for the moment.

  • Why isn't my word doc saving in the same format when saved to a pdf?

When I save my word doc to a pdf, the text boxes are getting all jumbled.  I tried changed the font, but that did not help the text box issue.

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details like exact PDF settings, version of your Office program and so on. And naturally screenshots tell a lot more than even the most verbose description of a pink butterfly on a rosy peach...

  • CS5 issue - Text not keeping Vector format when saving as PDF

    Hi everybody,
I am very frustrated right now. I am working in PS CS5 in Windows, and I cannot get the text to keep the raster format where it's cleaner / clearer, and can be highlighted, searched for, etc.
What's really puzzling is that it will work sometimes, but other times it will not, and I'm not doing anything different. Some text layers keep the vector format, and some do not. I've searched, and the only solution I see is for older versions of PS where it just says to select the "keep vector format" checkbox, which is not in the save options in CS5.
Can anyone help me out with this? Any assistance would be much appreciated!!
    Trevor

    Hello!
Yes, faux bold is an effect on the text that can't be vectorized.
You'll need to change your font to another one that has a "real" bold option.

  • How do I force Pages to keep the object formatting when saving? I placed the word 'draft' in the background of a template, rotated it slightly and save the template. Though the template opens with these changes intact, the document doesn't.

I'm up to date with OS and Pages software, using an Intel iMac 2 yrs old.

You need to Capture the page so that it applies to subsequent pages, applying the master objects.
It sounds like you have just done this for the first page and the following pages are just plain.
The process is explained here in Letterhead and Followers:

  • Netsh export error "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format"

Got an error("An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format") when trying to export from DHCP running in Enterprise Server 2008 R2.
Here is the command line: netsh dhcp server export c:\dhcp.txt all
This server had been migrated years ago(Server 2003 to Server 2008) and old DHCP server was decommissioned already. I know this error has a fix for Windows Server 2003 using hotfix from Microsoft but I was not able to find any hotfix from Windows Server
2008. Need your help guys as I'm seeing "X" on leases from DHCP and I need to resolve it! :(

    Hi,
As a workaround, we may try to use netsh DHCP server dump >c:\DHCPdump.txt.

when saving a file in [.jpg] format, i am asked to choose a quality from 1 to 100. what changes in the file created based on the quality parameter chosen?. i would like to know what changes, so in the future i can set my camera to a setting that will give me the highest quality to begin with, allowing me to make crops and still preserve the quality.
    thank you

It's the level of compression. Lower number, more aggressive compression, more visual artifacts.
Aside from that you should never use jpeg as a working format. The compression is destructive and cumulative, and the file deteriorates every time you resave it.
Use TIFF or PSD, and if you need jpeg save out a copy as a single final step.

  • CS6 Pshop - Alerts at startup; "All Readable Documents" not defaulting at opening; Format in file name not same as Format list when saving file

    Just downloaded CS6 Design Standard. System - OS10.6.8 (about to upgrade to 10.8), iMac 27 i5Intel 4core 12GBram 2.66Ghz
As Pshop opens, I get three alerts...
1 - Could not load Enable Async I/O module because does not work with this version of Photoshop
2 - Could not load Multiprocessor Support module because does not work with this version of Photoshop
3 - Could not load FastCore Routines module because does not work with this version of Photoshop
Then asks if I want to be connected to internet or something like that. Then Pshop opens even before I click OK
None of these happened with CS5.5
    I realize CS6 is 64bit. I have CS5.5 set at 32bit because of plugins.
Two issues I've noticed so far with CS6.
1 - As I open a document, the Enable selections drop down at bottom of window is not set on anything. I have to always select the All Readable Documents. Not the case in CS5.5 which was always default at All Readable Documents. Could not find anything in Prefs to this issue.
2 - When saving a document, whether RGB or CMYK, the drop down Format selections are not accurate. The first three or four do read correctly as correlating with the suffix (.jpg .tif etc) in the file name at top of window. But then the subsequent format selections below third or fourth one read as the one above it in the list.
eg: as RGB file: Saving through BMP indicates same in file name at top (.bmp). However, the next choice below that, Gif, still shows as .bmp in file name at top. And so on to bottom of list. Same with CMYK file.
    Never saw this in CS5.5.
When I initially installed CS6, I noticed only item in the Plugins folder was Panels folder.... no other plugins. I thought this to be a download error of some sort and dragged basic plugins from 5.5 into 6 Plugins folder. Could this be the problem? Otherwise, I would have NO plugins in CS6
I have downloaded CS6 twice now thinking the first was corrupted. I used both download options on Adobe page - Akamai and standard
Same issues with both. One response stated this all to be a plugins problem. I have uninstalled "after market" plugins from both 5.5 & 6 SuperBladePro was the only one. Restarted CS6. Still same problems. Only items in Plugins are what came with program.

I owe an apology to the previous responder Chris C, to this issue. I misread his solution thinking he meant I needed to delete ONLY the "additional" plugins like SBPro. Which I did. But rereading, I see he meant ALL the plugins I dragged from 5.5 because the 6 plugins folder was empty.
I thought it was corrupted in download. So if you guys get points for solutions, be sure Chris gets a few since I responded saying it did not work.
In fact, after removing the 5.5 plugins from 6, everything is working fine.
Plus I didn't know the 6 plugin folder was for the "after markets" like SBPro which is good to know.
Also thanks for the fairly quick response. I'm typically dubious about forums as troubleshooting solutions.
Kinda like sending a message in a bottle out to sea. Never know when it's coming back.
Sometimes issues are urgent. Your response team has encouraged me greatly  :-)
But still bummed that Chats do not support CS6 however.

  • Chinese characters copying incorrectly when saving pdfs with Preview

So this is a very strange problem. When I save a .pdf that I have annotated in Preview, it saves fine and everything continues to display correctly. However, if I then try to copy Chinese characters from the pdf, it pastes gibberish. F'rex:
    灿烂辉煌 becomes "3456"
    and
    遇到的问题 becomes " !"
Does anyone know what is going on and how to deal with it?

The strange part is that initially the Chinese characters copy fine. It's only after I save the .pdf that copying goes all wonky.
I think there is a bug related to annotation.
Is there any way to control what encoding Preview uses when saving?
No. PDF is the worst possible format to use for any kind of editing.
Have you tried Adobe Reader? Or Skim?
    http://skim-app.sourceforge.net/
Preview is not always the best option.

  • A problem occurs when saving in the Raw format.

I just started photographing using the Raw format.  When I edit a picture and then save it in Photoshop CS5, the file appears blacked out but when I click on the file, the picture comes up perfectly in CS5.  Does anyone know why this happens and how do I correct it?  This effect does not happen when I save a picture in the jpeg format.
    gobruins44

I think it depends on how you read the OP's post. It could also mean that he started using RAW from the camera, when he saves the file using the default format (psd) that there is no thumbnail in explorer. But when saved as a jpg there is.
I deduced that from the statement:
"the file appears blacked out but when I click on the file, the picture comes up perfectly in CS5."
