Incorrect Ink Cartridge Empty error

I receive an Ink Cartridges Empty message for the yellow cartridge, when I try to print.  I am given the option to either cancel and replace the cartridge or print in black only.  I have replaced the cartridge twice, but still get the message.  Does anyone know what I might do to fix this?  Thanks.

Hello kirkpat
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand you are getting a faulty out of ink message on your printer. Now you did not specify which printer you have so I am going to give you some general instructions to try. First ensure that your printer is plugged directly into the wall and not into a power bar or surge protector. If you are curious as to why I ask this you can review at your leisure the HP Support document: Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. Now I would also like you to power cycle the printer, this means you turn it off, unplug it from both the wall and the back of the printer and wait a full minute before replugging it back in. If you are still getting the issue turn off the printer and unplug it again, after which I would like you to remove the ink and the printhead (if the printer has a printhead) and start the printer up without them installed. If you still get the error there is a printer issue. If you do not get the error then it is most likely an issue with the cartridges. Either way you can put them back in and call HP Technical support for additional help with this.

  • Incorrect Ink Cartridge message after update

I have used the SAME ink in this SAME printer since we got the printer years ago.  It recently did one of its automatic updates and now says "incorrect ink cartridge is not inteded for use in this printer."   Now my printer won't work, PLEASE HELP!!!!

I do not have much experience with this model.  There are a few things to try:
Remove the ink cartridges and clean both the contacts on the ink cartrdige and the mating contacts in the printer with a damp q-tip.
Download and run the new HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility here.

  • Ink Cartridges Empty Warning

When attempting to print with my c7250, I began to receive a message that stated:
     Ink Cartridges empty.
To print in color, install the following cartridges: Cyan
To Print with black ink only, click black only. To begin printing on certain products, press the resume button on the printer control panel. The printer will replace colors with greyscale.
To cancel, press the cancel button on the printer.
If empty cartridges are not replaced soon, all printing will stop.
    64 bit windows 7 OS.
    OK, what I've done:
It showed to still have some cyan ink left when I started to get this message but I figured it might be off so I installed a new cyan HP cartridge. Same result only it shows full. I tried yet another cyan cartridge and again, the same result.
I have removed and installed the latest drivers and patches.
If I perform a calibration, the results are normal and the same with a print head clean. All colors show up.
It appears that others are having the same concerns on this forum but it doesn't look like anybody has an answer do they?
    Thanks...

No answers here, but same problem. Same OS on one compter and Vista on the other. Check the print alignment all inks printed, then it won't print at all.

The cartridges can be replaced independently as they run out of ink, you do not need to replace black and color at the same time.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 a910 giving incorrect ink cartridge errors !!!!!!!

    Hi,
My mom got an Officejet Pro 8500 a910 and it worked fine for a year approx.
Sbe got a 'replace cyan cartridge' error and bought the 3 pack (magenta, cyan, yellow) and replaced all 3 at once.
It printed 2 pages and now resumes with the 'replace cyan cartridge' error.  I have triple checked that they are all new and full but the HP device app will not print.  I have rebooted printer, computer, cleared the print queue.
    This is ridiculously frustrating.
Is there a way to just tell the printer to ignore the error warnings?  It does say the Black ink is full and will not even print a word document.  This is ridiculous.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Fix For Incompatible Ink Cartridge(s) Error for 4280?

I was printing a series of 10 pages and on the 7th page the copy came out looking like double-vision!  The screen on the printer displays the error "Incompatible Ink Cartridge(s)".  The unit will not function at all.  I have shut down the printer, unplugged and replugged from both the rear of the printer and the wall.  I have taken out the ink cartridges and reinstalled.  Nothing works.  I find it hard to believe that I need two new ink cartridges when there never was a hint of reduced ink quality up until the point of the error.  PLEASE HELP!!!

Are you using genuine hp ink?  There are a lot of companies out there imitating HP ink cartridges which are a lot more affordable.  I dont think HP likes the competition, so its possible their printers check for an authentication.  Maybe your genuine HP cartridges aren't authenticating properly.  I have been having this problem with my j4550, as well as having read posts from other users with this problem.  Try removing and re-installing the offensive cartridges.  This works on occasion for me, but you have to do it every so often.   If this doesn't work, and if HP doesn't publish an update for the Firmware, consider the new line of Kodak printers!  They advertise their ink is cheap enough they dont have to do this.  I have used HP printers for years, but if they cant figure this one out to better suit the consumers, perhaps it is time to switch companies.

  • Computer still displays ink cartridges empty

Every time I print, this dialog box comes up. (I have replaced the cartridges)
It's been happening for awhile now.  I continue to click black only and it prints, as everthing I have been needing to print is strictly black.  However, now I am trying to print pictures and I need color. I need to clear this message...but have no clue as to how.  The computer shows the correct ink levels as being full...but still I receive this message, and only on this computer.  On the macbook, it doesn't pop up and prints just fine.
Anyone know how to fix this?
I have an HP all in one Photosmart C7280 operating on Windows 7.
    Thank you.

    Hi gvchick03,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you keepp getting an error to print in black ink only or to replace the Cyan and Magenta cartridges, but the ink cartridges are full as per ink levels. Did you ever set the printing preferences to use black ink only or print in greyscale? Even though you select black only or grey scale it still requires all colors and pulls from all ink cartridges.
Please take a look here and make sure the preference is not set to black ink only or greyscale. See Step One:
Color Image Prints in Black and White
Now I would like you to remove all cartridges and do a hard reset on you HP Photosmart C7280, see here: Resetting the Printer
Once the printer is full initialized, please replace each cartridge one by one. Now check the ink levels are they still showing as full? Try printing a test page, do you still see the error message come up?
Now go ahead and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor- It was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers.
Let me know the outcome, I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Incorrect ink cartridge

Would anyone know why my Photosmart C7280 will not accept an hp magenta cartridge. The display reads "The following ink cartridge cannot be used after device initialization and must be replaced." it is possible this cartridge was an unopened installation unit. But, I don't know why that would make a difference.  Thanks for any help. jr

It does make a big difference.  The printheads are initially primed with dilute ink to prevent clogging while the printer sits before being purchased.  The initial cartridges have special concentrated ink that is formulated to mix properly with the dilute ink in the printheads.  Once the mixing has been done the proper ink concentations will be in the ink system.  The next cartridge installed will need to be the standard retail cartridges which have normal onk concentrations.  This printer will enforce this.
Where would you get an unopened host cartrdige?  There is now a printer somewhere that needs its host cartridge....

  • Ink Cartridges Empty -Print Black Only message

Need some advice:  I continue to get the following message:  "To print in color, install the following cartridge- Cyan...To print in Black only...press OK
The steps taken so far...replaced with new cartridge (twice), ran all of the commands in the toolbox (this results in printing sample pages that show all of the colors, etc.), cleaned the printing heads, and turned off the printer multiple times.  I even copied a colored page and it works fine, all of the colors show.  It just when I print from the PC that this message continues to come up.  Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. HP Solutions Sw shows all ink cartridges as "Ready" but when printing anything, I get the low Magenta ink "Black Only" message box. All Cartidges are 100% HP ink. The printing sw is getting bad ink status from somewhere.

  • Ink cartridges empty too fast

I mostly print in black so why do the other cartridges disappear so quickly?  Does the heat from the printer evaporate the ink?  Will it continue to print ok in black with empty color cartridges?

What printer model?  See here for a discussion of how ink is used.  Depending on the model you may or may not be able to print with empty or missing color cartridges.  In general IPH printers can print while colors are empty, IIC printers cannot.

    Hi tfmartin,
I understand you have a Photosmart C7280 that you are unable to print to from your computer. I'm sorry to hear about this, but I will certainly do my best to assist you in resolving this issue.
Before I can offer any suggestions I do need to know which version of Windows or Mac that you're using and how the printer is connected (wireless or USB). Once I have that information I should be able to help you better. In the meantime, if you're using Windows, please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to see if it can assist with the issue at hand

  • HP Deskjet 1510 Tri-color Ink Cartridge Error

I just bought a HP Deskjet 1510 back in August and I loaded the HP original ink cartridges that come with the purchase. For the first 5 print jobs it was working well, but somehow after a while my laptop and the printer itself just kept warning that there's low ink level in the cartridges (especially the tri-color one). I haven't even got to use the tri-color cartridge much as I've been printing in grayscale ever since I've used this printer.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I thought it might be a contact issue so I cleaned those parts too but it didn't change anything.
It's getting extremely frustrating as I'll have to do this for god knows how many times for every single page I print or copy. This happens to the black cartridge too but 90% of the time it's the tri-color cartridge.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

I hope you had a great holiday!
I understand from reading your post that you are running into cartridge errors.  I'd like to help!
I would first suggest removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend running through the steps listed in the document below:

  • PRO8600 Not recognizing new ink cartridge

I just changed the cyan cartridge in my Pro8600 printer, as I have previously done with no problem.  However, the printer is not recognizing that the new cartridge has been installed.  After closing the door and allowing the machine to cycle through its initial process, the window again appears stating that the cyan ink is empty and must be replaced to continue printing. I've removed the cartridge and reinserted it several times to no avail.  I've also tried a second new cartridge, again with same results.  Any ideas?

    Hello bryantk37127,
