Incorrect page orientation when rendering EPS to PDF

Hi,
Using Adobe Pro 9 (tried with Adobe Pro 7 as well) trial version to convert EPS files to PDF. Was able to convert to PDF with no errors. We noticed that some of the pages within the generated PDF are oriented side ways, pages that need to be oriented portrait are rendered in landscape mode. Other pages are oriented in landscape mode which is the correct way.
I tried setting the distiller settings within 'General panel' options and setting the "Auto-Rotate pages" to be OFF. Now, the pages that are oriented side ways are now in Portrait mode, however, the other pages are being rendered orienting sideways. The same EPS file was tested on a Unix machine using a PS to PDF converter and none of the pages are oriented incorrectly.
Question is, how to set the Adobe Pro so that it retains the "original" orientation settings of that of EPS data. Quick help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

I typically use auto rotate. Auto rotate make the rotation based on the orientation of the text on the page. If it turns out wrong, I simply edit the file and use Document>Rotate Pages to rotate the problem pages as needed. Then use Save As to store the PDF. For a few pages this is probably the simplest approach. If you need more, you may want to check the manual about the rotate options at the time of creation.

  • Adjust page boundary when converting eps to pdf

    Hi, I have a problem with the page boundaries when converting eps files to pdf files. The resulting pdf page boundary is the bare minimum around the eps objects, leading to different page sizes when the pdf is viewed on screen. I would like all of my pdf objects to have the standard letter (8.5 by 11 inch) page boundary. Furthermore, when the pdf is printed the size of the objects is not to to the same scale as the eps file (which was created in adobe illustrator), and the orientation of the picture is often rotated to what is displayed on the eps or pdf file! Can anybody help me with this problem?

    I opened Distiller from the regular programs menu. I have a job settings file selected that has a 8.5X11 size. I opened a 5.5X7.5 EPS file in Distiller and it creates a PDF with the image at the bottom of the 8.5X11 page. You can also simply open the PDF that you already have and print to a new PDF -- selecting expand to fit if desired.

  • Page orientation when combining multiple postscript files to a pdf file

    Hi
    I'm having problems with the orientation of my pages when I generate pdf's from multiple postscript files.
    I have 3 postscript files that need to be merged into 1 pdf, and they contain a mixture of portrait and landscape pages.
    To create the pdf, I use the following code (because i have lots and lots of pdf files to produce)...
    /prun { /mysave save def
         dup = flush
         RunFile
         clear cleardictstack
         mysave restore
    } def
    (D:/example/fileA.ps) prun
    (D:/example/fileB.ps) prun
    (D:/example/fileC.ps) prun
    ... however, when I run the above code (by saving the text file into the /in directory of a watched folder), whilst I get a pdf, the page orientation isn't right.  For some reason, the first few pages are oriented correctly, then after about page 7 everything is portrait no matter what.
    The funny thing is, when I simply double-click on one of the postscript files (eg. fileA.ps), distiller changes it to pdf and the orientation is perfect for each file separately (fileA, fileB, fileC).  Even when I run the above code for just one ps file it works.  But as soon as I put all 3 sub-files together it doesn't orient properly.
    I've tried activating and de-activating auto-rotate in the PDF settings, as well as the DSC options in the Advanced tab, and whilst these changes do affect the pdf I get when I simply double-click a certain postscript file, it seems to have no effect when I try to combine the 3 files with the code above.  I still end up with the first few pages oriented correctly, then after about page 7 everything is portrait.
    Hope someone can help.
    Danny

    Ok i successfully generated my PDF files.
    Now I'm having difficulties merging them. I use a DDX file named LiveCycleInput.ddx
    What I do (everything in LiveCycle Workbench):
    1) FileReader to open the .ddx file as a document (successfully)
    2) Store the read document in a process variable (successfully)
    3) Assembler.invokeDDX with following arguments:
    Document DDX = process variable (read in 2)
    OutputResult = "AssemblerResult" processVariable which has type AssemblerResult as specified by the documentation
    Errorlog
    Everytime I run the process I get the following stacktrace in my server's logfile:
    ... 119 more
    Caused by: com.adobe.internal.pdfm.CollateralNotFoundException: DDXM_S14017: A <PDF> source document is required, but no documents were found for {PDF source="testFileDoc.doc.pdf" baseDocument="true"}.
    at com.adobe.internal.ddxm.ddx.pdf.PDFSource.getOrderedInputDocs(PDFSource.java:595)
    at com.adobe.internal.ddxm.blueprint.pdf.SourceSegment.addDocumentsForAssembly(SourceSegment .java:91)
    ... 125 more
    The .ddx file is stored in the same path as my generated .pdf files are stored.
    Content of my DDX file (full copy paste)
    <DDX xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/DDX/1.0/">
    <PDF result="testFileMerged.pdf">
      <PDF source="testFileDoc.doc.pdf"/>
      <PDF source="testFileJpg.jpg.pdf"/>
      <PDF source="testFileOdt.odt.pdf"/>
    </PDF>
    </DDX>
    Note that the DDX file is read from a network drive(!!) the source PDF files are in the same folder as the ddx file (hence no further path-links).
    Adding network paths to the source & result pdfs does not change a thing.
    All PDF Files apart from the result pdf fiile are present in that same folder
    I consulted the DDX reference multiple times and this is the simplest ddx that should work ... but it doesnt.
    Can anyone help me?

  • PDFMaker changes page orientation when printing to pdf

    Hi all! I am praying for an answer. My job requires me to convert huge word documents to pdf using the pdfmaker add-in with acrobat Professional 8.1.3. My problem is as follows and has occured in two seperate documents. I have Microsoft word 2007 and run on a VIsta OS.
       So my problem is when I create a pdf from word acrobat for some odd reason changes any page's orientation that contain excel spreadsheets that have been inserted (I believe through copy and paste and they are not linked to excel). Thus I get a page with a landscape spreadsheet with a profile orientation and it cuts off the information for my client. By the way, it does the complete opposite of whatever orientation I choose.
       Here are some things I have tried: I tried saving document as a 97-2003 word file and create pdf from that version, I have changed the PDFmaker advanced settings for auto-rotate pages and tried all three options to no avail. I really need some help fast! I will love anyone who solves this problem for me.
    Thanks,
           Jason.

    GREAT NEWS!!! I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!
      Okay so after a lot of frustration and mountain dew I have figured this out, but first the problem is simpler then I listed it. So here is the actual problem:
    I had a document with multiple sections and one section was oriented landscape while the rest were profile. When printing to PDF the resulting pdf file had all sections in profile and ignored any change in orientation and cut off/cropped out elements of the pages I had in landscape orientation.
    SOLUTION:
    The solution to this problem is in two parts: 1) changing some print preview stuff in word, and 2) changing preferences in pdfmaker/acrobat ribbon.For this solution to actually work however you must have the landscaped sections sectioned off by inserting section breaks in word.
    Step 1) Go to the section where you document orientation is changed from the rest of the document. Press the office button (in 2007) and drag down to print>print preview. You will notice that your section has now reverted to profile. (Ah Ha!) Change the page orientation to landscape.
                "But wait, now my margins or elements are getting cut off" you say. Go to Page setup. Make sure that near the bottom it says "Apply to: This section"
                Now make it landscape and this changes the margins to also be landscape.
    Step 2) Click on your Acrobat tab and go to preferences. Under pdfmaker settings click advanced settings and as Bill and I have said change auto-rotate pages to individually.
    AND YOU ARE DONE!!!!!

  • Page Size when converting .docx to pdf

    I am having an issue converting .docx to pdf. I am using a custom page size in word 2007 and saving it, but when i convert to pdf it uses the default 8"/11" format. I have seen it done, but can't get it to work consistently. I am using acrobat 8 pro. Can anyone help?

    What OS? Have you tried to make a custom page size for the Acrobat PDF printer drive?

  • How does Adobe Forms Central base their automated page breaks when distributing to a PDF form?

    OR
    How can I define those page breaks before Adobe Forms Central created the PDF. I have attempted to "insert" a page break within the form; however, when distributing this form to be created as a PDF, the PDF is still placing the auto-generated page break wherever it wants.
    Is it possible to move these auto generated breaks once the PDF form is created?
    Thank you!

    Did you add the page breaks while in Web View or Page View? FormsCentral uses "web view" as the default, but uses the "page view" to show where the PDF will have page breaks. Go to the menu bar on the top right, select "view," and then select "page view." You  should be able to see page breaks here, and move them where you'd like them. It won't affect what people see on the web, just in the PDF.

  • Page orientation when printing from iBooks Author

    I have a iBooks document, all in portrait orientation. If I print this doc then it is printed in landscape even if I change the orientation to portrait within the printing interface. iBooks somehow is stuck to landscape when printing.
    Who has got a solution to this?

    Are you trying to ask for help in the forum or to file a bug?
    I'm hoping that someone here has figured out how to control the orientation when exporting to PDF. I haven't been able to find a way to do that.
    while there is no formal bug reporting method similar to what devs have w/apps, iBA does have a 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item.
    Actually, there is: the Apple Developer Program. I have submitted a number of bug reports for IBA there, and have received timely and constructive responses from the development team.
    Good luck and welcome to iBA.
    I've been using IBA since it was released, as you well know.

  • How Can I disable page scrolling when creating an interactive PDF using InDesign?

    I'm attempting to create an interactive PDF portfolio with links from the homepage to gallery pages and projects etc, but it seems useless if I can't stop the PDF pages from scrolling? Can anyone help?
    I have InDesign CS5.5 and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
    Thanks,
    Elizabeth

    scrolling through the pages
    There is nothing you can do to prevent a viewer from navigating on their own through a PDF. One method would be to have the PDF open in Full Screen mode, this hides the navigation tab. But a viewer can use their arrow keys to go page to page, ignoring the links within the PDF. And the viewer can hit the esc key to go back to normal view. Another option would be to use a swf export, indstead of pdf, but seriously depends on how you plan to distribute this portfolio.

  • Discoverer Plus - Problem with Page Orientation when printing pdf's

    Hi,
    When printing pdf's in Disco Plus I have a problem:
    My workbooks are a mixture of landscape and portrait pages.
    I am printing the entire workbook and then using cutepdf to produce a pdf.
    If I print to paper I get the correct landscape/portrait settings.
    If I print to pdf then landscape pages appear vertically when I view on screen so that the text is running from bottom to top of the page.
    So it is picking up th portrait/landscape settings from the individual worksheets but cutepdf has not realised that the pages are landscape so they appear on the screen vertically.
    This was not a problem on discoverer desktop so I am confident that this is not a problem with cutepdf.
    Any thoughts?
    Justin

    Thanks 2257648922,

    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production

  • Incorrect page size when creating PDF from Excel 2013 (export and print)

    I am in the USA so everything tends to default to 8½"x11" ... but I created a document in Excel with A size settings. I have attempted to export it to PDF with every setting I can find set to A4 and I have attempted to print the document to PDF again with every setting I can find set to A4 (page size, layout - advanced - paper/output - paper size - A4) with all scaling turned off and yet when I open the finished document in Acrobat XI Pro (with all updates installed) the document properties lists it as 8½"x11". I don't see any resize document settings in Acrobat or any other reason it would be anything but A4 in Acrobat's settings, and I've even had someone in our design department that uses Acrobat extensively look at my steps and they don't see where I'm making any mistakes.
    Does anyone here have any suggestions?

    Notice in the illustration the button Page setup.
    Click on that and see if you can set printer from there.
    I don't know whether this is in the PC version.
    This is an adobe dumb idea inserting a Print menu in between a print menu and the printer, and not allowing the Printer to do the control Setup itself.
    One of them ideas that came up when a developer was sitting around twidling his thumbs, and saying hey lets do this.  Another idea That comes along with this, is the inserted property feature called simplex printing. If you want to print a PDF duplex you can setin printer till cows come home and you blue in the face. Won't print Duplex.  You have to Click Propties and Locate the command simplex, and turn off.

  • Problem with page size when converting spool to PDF

    I have a SmartForm invoice which is formatted perfectly when I print it using the printer options specified when I open the form. However, when I send the output to spool, convert it to PDF using FM CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF, then print to the same printer, the format is not correct.
    The PDF generation feature treats the page (standard letter size, portrait) as too large and shrinks the output to fit the page. It scales the entire invoice down by about 1/4 inch, which throws off our mailing envelope.  If I change the page scaling option of Adobe Reader to 'None', my invoice is scrunched up into the top left corner of the page.
    My page format is LETTER Portrait.
    Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Page Size When Converting TIFF to PDF

    In my work I download documents from a website where you can only view and save them as TIFF images. The documents are scanned images of typewritten instruments filed with the county clerk. When saved as TIFFs, the documents are of varying sizes. After I save them as TIFF files, I convert to pdf using select (often multiple files at once), then right click "Convert to Adobe PDF." The files convert to pdf without a problem, except they are of many different page sizes, depending upon the size of the TIFF file.
    I am using Adobe Acrobat X Standard (Windows 7 on a PC). Is there a way to set it up so when I convert from TIFF to pdf, it will come out as a standard page size, such as legal 8.5x14? I know that I can convert, then print using the Adobe PDF printer, but that just adds another step.
    Would the answer be different if I were using Acrobat X Pro or Acrobat XI? Thanks.

    TIFF files contain a page size, and when converted to PDFs, the page size from the TIFF is used.
    So you need to fix it in the TIFF before conversion or the PDF after conversion. I think the TIFF will probably be a better, easier and cheaper place to fix it.

  • Page numbering when exporting book to PDF - ID 5.5

    I'm having a lot of trouble exporting a PDF from a book file in Indesign 5.5, running on Snow Leopard.
    On certain pages it appears to place the page numbers randomly in the middle of the artwork.
    I am using master pages for the numbering. On most pages it works fine, but on others this problem will appear.
    I understand that 5.5 has had issues with the Export to PDF from a book file, I recently installed an update which I understand was supposed to fix these issues, but the problem still persists.
    Has anyone experienced this issue, or have any methods to resolve it? A screenshot is below which shows the correct position on the left, and the incorrect position on the right.
    Numbering appears fine in the ID file itself.

    Try exporting the files to .idml (see Remove minor corruption by exporting) and resave.

  • Retaining Two-Page Scrolling when Exporting to Interactive PDF Not Working

    I'm currently trying to export from InDesign a continuous facing page PDF.
    My document has four pages and is set up as pages, not spreads.
    Left page is even, right is odd. Looks fine in InDesign.
    I need to do Interactive due to hyperlinks, etc.
    I choose Export and choose Interactive PDF
    My settings are All, Pages, Fit Visible, Two-Up Continuous Facing
    When it finishes and opens in Acrobat it's starting as a right, cover page. Even if I go to Two Page Scrolling/Viewing in Acrobat it shows my left-hand page starting on the right.
    Is there something in Acrobat that isn't set up correctly? I'm using Adobe Cloud so latest version of all software. Thank you in advance! It's driving me crazy as it's always worked in the past.

    Try turning on this setting in Acrobat:
    View > Page Display > Show Cover Page in Two Page View

  • Why are some of my pages blank when I export to PDF from InDesign?

    I have a fairly large InDesign book that I've been trying to export to PDF unsuccessfully. There are lots of images and te
    xt in the book and half export fine and the other half don't. When I export the files individually, they export fine. Any advice why the book won't export correctly?

    I wouldn't expect either conversion or working froma server to affect the export (though working with your ID files directly on the sever is a bad practice -- big potential for disaster due to a network error causing unrecoverable file damage).
    First, do a "Save as" to remnove any unneeded old undo inofrmation from the file and reduce its size, then copy it to your local machine and try to export. If you still have a problem, try emptying your temp folders.
