Incorrect Software Center content

Hello everybody,
I'm having hardtime with our SCCM 2012 SP1 infrastrucutre for 2 weeks now.
Basically, everything has been running smoothly for quite some times (last major update was SP1 in June 2013) but computers being staged with MDT integrated TS or machines with a basic Dell image joined to domain on which the client is deployed have an issue
to show proper content in the Software Center.
For the Background, I have a pretty simple setup : Single site server and multiple DP's (one per site) and the only recent changes I have operated were in Septembre when I've started PKI certificates installation whilst the Servers roles are still in http
or https at the moment. I thought this could be the trigger for my problems and rolled everything back but no success.
Packages and Applications available during the OSD are deployed over a specific collection containing unknown computers. Therefore, once the staging is completed the computer leaves that collection and those packages and applications are not shown as available
anymore while the computer will retreive the deployments offered to another collection it joins automatically.
That's what happens in theory but all my newly deployed clients will not refresh the Software Center content. For those which were deployed through the OSD, they will keep on showing the OSD Collection content. If I try to deploy one on these I will receive
an error reading that this application is not available anymore and that I need to refresh the Software Center window by pressing F5. It doesn't help, niether is triggering an Machine Policy retrieval from the CM Client control panel.
I have noticed that If I deleted an existing deployment from the collection and redeploy it the way it was done before, the computer will update properly.
For the rest, communication with the MP seems to be doing fine, I've found these 2 relevant informations in the client logs :
CIDownloader.log
CCIDownloader::ParseDtsMessage - Dts failed with error code: 0x80070002. CI Downloader will retry.
CIDownloaderJob({A075A9A7-3718-4406-8500-B22050F415BE}): Received Dts failure message during CI download.

Has anyone ever encountered that issue? I'm thinking about uninstalling/reinstalling the MP role on my main server but I must admit I'm pretty cold about this modification as I do not find relevant log errors about this issue and I'm affraid of simply loosing
control on all my corking clients.
thanks for you time and, if I need to provide additional information let me know. I tried to stick to what seems of interest as I've been digging this for some time now.
Thomas

Hi Torsten,
I have indeed check the Monitoring node from the console and have no warnings/errors.
I have checked on site servers logs, especilly the MP ones, and found errors about ClientAuth_SignatureFailure (which seems to be linked to my half PKI setup) but these do not apply to the computers I'm running my tests on and I ruled them out. I can post
the content here if you want anyway.

For me that tends to confirm what occurs in the Software Center but hardly points to next hop for troubleshooting.

  • Security updates takes long time to install through Software Center

    Hi Folks,
We have a setup with SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 as a Primary Site server where SUP also enabled. I deployed the windows security updates to the test servers collection by deployment type as Available.
I verified in test servers that all the deployed security updates are listed under Software Center client, but when I checked all the updates and tried to install. it is taking long time to install . Most of the time the updates are in “waiting to install”
status and finally ends up in failed state with error codes 0xc80003f3, 0x8007000e. Have verified all the logs windowsupdate.log, Updatesdeployment.log, WUHandler.log are points to the same error code. Found that multiple SVChost.exe process consumes more
    memory during patching process.
However we have enough physical memory(2 GB) and page memory( Min 2 GB to Max 4 GB) configured on the servers (Windows 2012 R2 SP1) .  Need some guidance in further troubleshooting...

Most of the servers managed by me today are having anywhere 2 - 4 GB RAM installed. How do one install the security patches through SCCM with this configuration?. Selecting more than 4 patches at the same time to install does gives memory errors.
I would suggest 4GB RAM for a modern Server OS e.g. WS2012R2 is simply too little memory.
There have been quite a lot of issues in recent months, relating to Software Updates, affecting WSUS and also ConfigMgr, e.g.

  • Getting "Error: 0x80070654" when trying to install SCCM 2012 R2 Console from Software Center

    What I did:
Created a Package Source share on the Site Server
Gave the Package Source Share the following Share permissions: SCCM Admins: Full Control, Domain Computers: Full Control, Local Admins: Full Control.
Copied the "Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\tools\ConsoleSetup" folder to my package source (Since the Package Source is actually on the site server, I just copied the ConsoleSetup folder to it that is on the same drive)
Created a package and a Standard Program
    Command line: ConsoleSetup.exe
I deploy it to my collection
Run Machine Policy and Reevaluation on my Right Click Tools
Go to one of my clients and open up Software Center and click the Install button
    It fails with ""Error: 0x80070654"
I open up execmgr.log on the client using CMTrace and I use the error lookup tool and it shows that the 0x80070654 error is "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer
    package"
I also see a red highlighted line in the execmgr.log file with the following entry: "Script for Package:PRI00013, Program: SCCM 2012 R2 Management Console failed with exit code 2147944020"
I can run ConsoleSetup.exe using a command line to the package source.

    This is really frustrating

some Clients have Problems to show Application Deployments in Software Center. In Deployment Monitoring Tool I can see the Deployments. But if you select the Deployment I get the Error "DT cannot be empty". So I think the
    Policy isn't downloaded correctly.

Is it possible to reset Software Center?

This bug is still present in SCCM 2012 R2 CU3.
Remediation script has been optimized and written in Powershell. It will trigger a refresh only if application is found in WMI class.
If you deploy user-centric applications, you’ll need to change this code a little bit.

  • Software Center Application Uninstallation Button Greyed Out and Deploying an Application with Uninstall switch Fails

    Hi,
I tried everything I could find on the internet but no luck so far. I can successfully deploy MS Visio 2013 to the clients. I also want to be able to uninstall it from the clients. On the client machine Uninstall button is greyed out. This deployment is
installed as "Available" and there is only one deployment type within that MS Visio 2013 Application.
I tried the following uninstall commands in my deployment:
    setup.exe /uninstall
    setup.exe /uninstall
    VisPro
    /config .\vispro.ww\uninstallvisio.xml
    “\\SRVSCCM2012\Sources\MSApplications\MSVisioPro_2013_64Bit_ENG\setup.exe” /uninstall VisPro /config "\\SRVSCCM2012\Sources\MSApplications\MSVisioPro_2013_64Bit_ENG\vispro.ww\uninstallvisio.xml"
    \\SRVSCCM2012\Sources\MSApplications\MSVisioPro_2013_64Bit_ENG\setup.exe /uninstall VisPro /config \\SRVSCCM2012\Sources\MSApplications\MSVisioPro_2013_64Bit_ENG\vispro.ww\uninstallvisio.xml
I checked Product ID from Setup.xml and I know it is correct. My uninstallvisio.xml' content is below:
    <Configuration Product="VisPro">
    <Display Level="basic" CompletionNotice="yes" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" />
    <Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="Never" />
    </Configuration>
Last night, I downloaded and installed Cumulative Update 1 for SCCM 2012 R2 and I haven't tried the deployment after the update, yet. I will try it today but please let me know what else to check.

After I updated SCCM Server and test client pc with CU1 , I tried to deploy visio as Required. It installed successfully. Then I uninstalled visio by deploying the application with Uninstall Action.
After that I tried to deploy visio as "Available" to see if Software Center Uninstall button works. However visio deployment does not come to Software Center's Available Applications List. I check the status of the deployment under the Deployments monitoring
node and it says Success "Already Compliant". I dont know what it means. Does config manager thinks that visio already installed?

2 or 3 hours later that -Succes "Already Compliant"- status of the deployment under the Deployments monitoring node is vanished automatically and Software Center application list showed the new deployment. I installed it and  uninstalled it succesfully.
So, you are right Solution is the CU1 but I am still wondering why my available deployment took so time to be visible in Software Center althought I didn't enter any schedule to be available.

  • Orphaned Applications in software center

I have seen this a few times but seems to be intermittent.  I created a query based user collection.  My test user account was part of that collection.  I deployed an app to the collection.  The user was able to see it in the app catalog
and install it successfully.  The user then uninstalled the app successfully.  The app stills shows in Software Center as available (which appears to be normal although I wish the behavior would be that it would disappear).  But that's not the
issue.  So I no longer wanted the user to be able to deploy this application that they previously installed and uninstalled.  Since it is a query based collection which the user should be in, I added an exclude collection that just had the user account
in it  which seemed to work fine.  The exclusion collection caused my test user account to drop out of the collection.  After a few minutes, the app dropped out of the app catalog which is good and what I expected.  The problem here is
that the app still remains in Software Center and shows as available and the user can still continue to install and uninstall this app.  I have forced user policy several times with no change and let it sit for a few hours with still no change.  As
a test I then removed all membership from the collection so that it was completely empty.  Still no change.  I then deleted the collection and the deployment and still no change.  I have also forced machine policy and application deployment
evaluation cycles and still no change. I have ensured that there are no other deployments of this app, it is not a dependent app of any other app either.  So I am left with an app that I can still install/uninstall from software center with no existing
deployments of that app.  Other times I have done similar and the app does disappear from Software Center after updating user policy.  But definitely once or twice in the past I have seen this behavior as well.  In the past I believe I removed
and re-installed the configmgr client to get rid of the orphaned apps.  I have not done that yet this time in the hopes of troubleshooting further.  Has anyone ran into anything like this?

Thanks, but I am the person that originally posted that issue.  This issue is similar but much worse.  That one was just a nuisance in that the apps remain available in software center after you have performed an uninstall.  But to workaround
that problem I would have to somehow get the user out of the collection that was targeted with the deployment and that usually got the app to drop out of software center.  In this case however, the app remains even after deleting the collection and the
deployment.  So this app is no longer deployed to anyone but the user with the app orphaned in software center can still install and uninstall it.  I even cleared the cache on the user machine thinking that would at least cause it to fail to install
next time but the user was able to re-download content and install again.  So to me this one is much more serious than the first one.  I will have to file another case.  But curious if anyone else has seen this and for now if anyone has a workaround
like perhaps finding the policy and deleting it or something that I can script.  Just started poking through policy spy but have not gotten far yet.

  • Software center permissions error, SCCM 2012

I'm getting a strange error in the software center.  The applications and packages deploy without any problems but users receive an error when trying to install the application or package through software center.  They receive the error "Insufficient
Permissions for Software Installation" and "Your IT department has set restrictions for this software that prevent it from installing on your computer".  I have attached the screenshot.  We are running SCCM 2012 on Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server
2008 R2 on a separate server.  If this is something that is configured on the server I don't remember ever doing it but I can't find that error anywhere on Google so I'm kind of at a loss for the moment.  Again, any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

EDIT: Found this in the SCCM Documentation Library doc file (Feb 1, 2013).
Why do I see an error message about insufficient permissions from a Windows Embedded device when I try to install software from Software Center?
You can install applications only when the write filter on the Windows Embedded device is disabled. If you try to install an application on a Windows Embedded device that has write filters enabled, you see an error message that you have insufficient
permissions to install the application and the installation fails.

  • Newly created Applications do not appear in Software Center or Application Catalog

I'm still rather new to SCCM; but I'm slowly working towards configuring an application to be deployed to my clients via an application package that I configured.  I set something up for deployment, and it's my understanding that the app should show
up in the software center for the users that it's deployed to.
However, I'm having an issue where not only is it not showing up, but it's not being installed on the clients I've deployed it to.  The main problem is that I have no idea how to troubleshoot this - I don't know what logs to look at for issues (or where
the logs are); and I've been having a ton of trouble locating 'basic troubleshooting' info for application deployment.
If anyone could point me towards info that can get me on the right path for troubleshooting why my application isn't either automatically installing on the clients or why it isn't showing in the software center/application catalog, that would be very helpful.
    Thanks!

I created the app on Monday, then did the deployment to a computer collection; Tuesday I read something that implied for it to show in software center it had to be deployed to a user collection, so I did that.  I have told it to distribute the content
to all 3 of my distro points (three physical offices, one DP in each office), and I did that on Monday, then again on Tuesday when I deployed to the user collection.
Looking at it now, it seems as though the content hasn't been deployed to the other DP's yet though.  When I go to Monitoring - Distribution Status - Content Status and select the application I created, it shows the status as 1 success (primary office/sccm
site/where the content was located when I created the package), and two as 'in progress' (other two sites), but has shown in progress for over 24h now.   When I look at the further detail for the distribution - for one site the message shows last status
time of yesterday at 4:30pm and says "the content files for package <package id> have not yet arrived from the source site."  the other one has the same last status time, but says "distribution manager instructed scheduler to send
package <package id> to child site."
So either the distribution is taking forever or it hasn't updated the status since it finished.  Either way, maybe this is the par that I need to look into?

  • Software Center shows all apps as "1 MB" in size

Would like to report what we believe to be a GUI BUG in Software Center - that all programs are incorrectly showing "less than 1 MB". Althought it appears to be a GUI bug, it is rather unnerving for some Techs and generate several unnecessary Questions
to us in the CM admins group. It does show the correct size, if we manually click on each and every program/App.
Is it known by MS? Is there a coming Update that fixes the issue?
    Many thanks for any help
    Justin Nichols MCSE

I'm using R2 CU2 and have the same problem. This issue is not fixed.
I justed filled that as a Connect bug. You can track the response from MS there and feel free to upvote it.

  • LMS 4.2 Applications missing from Software Center

I have a problem with LMS 4.2.4 Software center on Win2K8.  I have been trying to download device updates and the only product listed in software center has been:
    Inventory Config And Image Management
It seems like this happened to me before and I opened a TAC case and got the list of products back but I can't seem to locate the case history.  To top it off my LMS support contract is in limbo due to some administrative glitch and I am waiting for my account team to sort it out.  Meanwhile I have just installed some relatively new products (3850, 4500-X) and LMS doesn't seem to recognize these completely.
The list of apps seems to be stored in the NMSROOT\lib\classpath\com\cisco\nm\xms\psu\conf\tag.properties.  I stumbled accross a tag.pl script in the bin directory that modifies this file.  So I searched in vain for the proper contents for the tag.properties file.  In the end I just issued the following sequence to get common services back:
    cd <NMSROOT>\lib\classpath\com\cisco\nm\xms\psu\conf
    perl D:\Software\CSCOpx\bin\tag.pl tag.properties -a "cmf:Common Services"
So I am not sure why a perl script to modify the tag.properties file is necessary since it just seems to append the specified product to the end of the file. In any event I then went to
Admin > System > Software Center > Device Update
and sure enough CMF appears and I am able to check for and install device updates for it.  However, I still seem to be unable to perform UT collection for the 3850 stack which is what I am really after.  So does anyone know what product I need to add and get updates for in order to get user tracking working?  In other words, what is the output of
    psucli.bat -h?
    Thanks,
    -Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
    looks like tag.prop is corrupted.
it should have the below content :
    ipm:IPSLA Performance Management
    cmf:Common Services
    lmsportal:LMS Portal
    cvw:CiscoView
    rme:Inventory Config And Image Management
    dfm:Fault Management
    lms:LAN Management Solution
    upm:Device Performance Management
cm:Network Topology Layer 2 Services and User Tracking
Is this a new Installed ? if yes share the Installed.log
if you have good backup ,then try retstoring it.
    Thanks-

  • Software Center - past - due will be installed & maintenance/business hours

    Hi All
I am struggling with some issues with installing software on clients.
Much of the software I have deployed can end up sitting in client software center as 'past due - will be installed' or 'pastdue - will be retried'.
They'll sit there until someone does something..meaning.. You need to manually start the deployment.. Then it installs fine.
I always set ' User Experience - When installation deadline is reached..... to "Software Installation" ticked.
There's apparently a client settings in Administration-->Client Settings->"computer Agent" which can affect the install as well "Additional Software manages the deployment......" this is set to "no".
Business hours on clients are set to 5-22.. I believe this is standard.
There is NO maintenance windows set for any of my collections.
What's strange is that some clients install software I deploy just fine.. while others I deploy to at the same time.. can leave the software as 'past due'. Meaning some clients install as they should while others end up in "past due".
Can someone guide me in the right direction..
    Kindest regards, Martin

    Hi Torsten..
    Good call..
This is what VLC player returns in monitoring->deployments:
Failed to locate content error 0x87d01107 Failed to access all the provided program locations. This program may retry if the maximum retry count has not been reached.
but again.. if I go to the client and click on "try again" .. it installs..
    Kindest regards, Martin

  • Software Center Single Installed Software "Uninstall" greyed out

SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 installed across the board.
My software center has a single application that shows in the "Installed Software" tab.  This is what i expect to see.  However, the Uninstall button is not available.  If I look at the "Installation Status" tab, my
Application is still greyed out.  However, i have the option to select different applications here.  When i select another application and then select my applicaiton again, the uninstall button is available and the uninstall works without issue as
    expected.
My appication has a single deployment type.  Nothing special to it.  No requirements or dependancies.
    Any thoughts on this one?
I found a similar post here:
    http://www.myitforum.com/forums/Software-Center-Possible-bug-with-uninstall-button-m243139.aspx

Have you also deployed CU3 to your clients ?
Have you specify the command line to uninstall the deployment type content on the Content page of the Create Deployment Type Wizard ?

  • Software Center error. 0x80041013 (-2147217389)

    Hi.
When some of our users open Software Center they get this error:
Software Center cannot get the current status for some of the software. Software Center will list any items with available status. You can press F5 to refresh the view. If the problem persists, contact your help desk.
    More information:
Loading Software Center teturned error code 0x0041013 (-2147217389).
If they try to start an application via the link "Find additional applications from the Application Catalog" the get this error from
    SCClient_XXX@xxx_.log file under c:\windows\CCM\logs:
Exception Microsoft.SoftwareCenter.Client.Data.WmiException: Provider load failure    (Microsoft.SoftwareCenter.Client.Common.ClientUXMain at RetreiveDataComplete)
The error code is ProviderLoadFailure   (Microsoft.SoftwareCenter.Client.Data.WmiException at get_ErrorCode)
I have tried to uninstall the SCCM client, cleaned up everything and installed the client again. Tried to reset repository under c:\windows\system32\wbem and installed the client again with no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    see
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2009/05/08/wmi-troubleshooting-tips.aspx
it's an older article, but very likely to be useful.
Note that ConfigMgr2012 clients should be running a nightly ccmeval, which includes an auto-diagnostic of WMI, so, is ccmeval running? Reporting success/health?
Also, this article describes how to re-register the DLLs and recompile MOFs:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2009/04/13/wmi-rebuilding-the-wmi-repository.aspx
based on the symptom you've mentioned, you need to focus on if the WMI repository is healthy or not, and, if the underlying WMI system (providers, registrations) is healthy.
When you uninstall CCM, the CCM namespace should get deleted, and when you reinstall, the CCM namespace gets re-created, but, if the providers or underlying WMI system is unhealthy, the CCM namespace may not be useable.
Is Windows itself healthy? Has something bad happened to a dependency? Other errors in the event logs?
As Joyce says, check the client installation logs to see if related errors were logged when the client installation occurred.
    As an example (similar symptom):
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/14408.troubleshooting-fim-wmi-provider-load-failure.aspx
In this case, something has changed the ACL, causing the provider to be access_denied.
Do you have custom security policies, or security products, which could be denying the service access to the provider?
    Another set of hints/tips here:

  • Software center downloading 0%

I created my June update (14 updates) all but 4 are seem to be stuck when looking at the Software Center Downloading 0% , it's been like this for 2 days.
    MSB

Is this all clients or just the one client?
What to the logs say on the client for contenttransfermanager, cas, and/or updatesdeployment.log?  (there are more logs that might have information, too, but those are some to start with).
My guess is the content you want simply isn't on your distribution points, or that particular client can't find the content on your DPs, possibly you've protected your DPs and this client doesn't have rights to the DPs with that content. (?)

  • Software Center - Update stuck downloading

    Good morning
We have pushed a few updates out to a number of clients via SCCM but for some reason we have an update (KB2962407) which appears to be stuck in the Downloading stage. It's stuck at 50%.
I have manually downloaded this update and installed it to the clients but in Software Center it is still showing up 'Downloading (50%)
I know this update has now been installed.
Is there a way for me to make this disappear or see it as being installed?

    Hi,
Are you sure that the update in questions is distributed to the DP that the client use? Normally these issues are related to content not beeing available, boundary / boundary groups noty configured correctly.
Here is a blog post that explains log files and assists in the troubleshooting process.
