Increase default font size across all applications?

I just got a new Macbook with a 15.4 inch 1400x900 screen resolution, and I am finding that the text on screen is really tiny in most cases (on the Apple menu it is fine).
Even some buttons are tiny.
Is there any way to increase the text size systemwide? Since the GUI is PDF based, it ought to scale well, right?
I don't want to lower the resolution, because I naturally want to keep the sharpness.

Hi, eobet.
There's no way of doing this through the Mac OS X GUI itself. However, the freeware application TinkerTool permits you to "set nine categories of default fonts used in Cocoa applications." This permits you to change the font used and its size.
This facility employs hidden settings within Mac OS X, so it's a bit of a hack and should be used with caution and at your own risk.
The graphical elements of the GUI, such as the buttons you cite, cannot be changed other than by lowering the resolution.
For the visually impaired, Mac OS X offers a Zoom option in System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing. This permits one to magnify a portion of the screen to the full width of the screen.
Good luck!

  • My default font size is set at 18px. Is this the default default font size for all users of ff 3.6+?

I was developing a site in ff when I noticed other browsers were rendering the font size smaller than in firefox. Upon investigation I discovered that my ff 3.6 default font was Adobe Caslon Pro Bold 18px.
I have never deliberately set this. My understanding was that all browsers default default font size was 16px.
Has ff default font size changed from 16px to 18px?

    You're welcome.

  • Increase default font size??

    Hi,
I'm using a Macbook Pro running at 1920 x 1200. The real estate is perfect for when I'm using Final Cut Studio but there's a huge problem. The font sizes are tiny. Is there any way to increase the default OS X font size?
    Thanks

I have tried to decrease resolution, that increase character size but all is fuzy.
I have tried the zoom featured but it is the same problem.
For some application, like Safari 4.0, this feature exists. I need the same for the finder, the menu bar, the default of other application...
In MS Windows, I simply changed the dpi of the screen.
How can I do to increase font size without a fuzy screen ?
the general answer is: you can't. it will be possible once resolution independence is fully supported. it exists in leopard but is so extremely buggy that I don't even want to explain how to use it. it might be better implemented in snow leopard once it comes out. in the meantime you can use TinkerTool to change SOME fonts.

  • After Firefox was updated, the font size on my screen was decreased for all applications. How can I increase the font size on my screen ??

After the update, the next screen showed all the letters in smaller font, with fewer pixels. All the screens are like that now and I found nothing in the Firefox help contents. This is a problem because I have vision difficulty. So, how can I increase the font size to what it was before? My screen is about 20 inches wide.
Also, any chance I can change all the font to Arial instead of Times New Roman?

    Thanks -- that does help!

  • How to increase the font size in the safari tool bar

    Hello,
I am trying to set-up Yosemite for my mom who is a senior.  The toolbar and address bar for safari seem to be quite small.  Does anyone know how to increase the font size in the tool bar and address bar?  I already figured out to make the font size bigger on a webpage which is nice but the rest of the interface, though pleasing to look at, is quite miniscule.
    Hope someone can help.

I too would like an easier way to do it. The only way that I have found  (& it works for all applications, desktops Document & Download files) is to decrease the size of your Screen display from 2560 by 1440 ( this is your "Default for display") to 1920 by 1080. This is accomplished by going to "Accessibility Preferences" in your menu bar or through Systems  Preferences and choosing the DISPLAY icon, then unchecking the "Default for Display" Setting and then check "Scaled".
Your screen resolutions will then appear in the drop down box & you can choose a smaller display (e.g. 1920 x 1440), then all print will appear larger on the screen.
If anyone knows a slicker way, I 'm all ears (actually "eyes" would be more appropriate.
    I hope this helps you.

  • How can you change the font size in the application and system headers?

How can you change the font size in the application and system headers?  I searched the system and finder prefs to no avail.  Changing the screen density is not a good option.
    Thanks

I downloaded Tinkertool.  Found the font section and increased the size of most selections.  The only thing that changed that I can see is the window label.  The apple line, bookmarks line, the tool bar in safari are all the same---font size of about 4.  Found the finder "show view options" but that didn't seem to change anything either.  I'll keep working.  Restarted all apps after changes as well.

  • How to increase the font size of the ALV Print

    Hello Experts,
How can we increase the font size while printing an ALV report? I tried searching the fourms for a solution from the previous postings, but could not find a "clear" answer. Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
The size of the page is fixed, and if all the fields have to be there, then the font size will have to be decreased. So, if the no. of fields are less, it automatically increases thefont  size and prints.
The size of the font in the printout is directly related to the line-size of the output on the screen. When we do the print, we check that the output format is optimal for the size of the line. For example, in the print dialog, check that the format is related to the size of your line. If there are 132 characters across, then choose format like X_65_132.
    thanks,
    Archana

  • How do I increase system font size (for menus, etc.)?

I wear contacts, but still don't have perfect vision, and working on my mac all day as a researcher means that my eyes can get tired- especially since I work on double screens- my macbook air + a widescreen display on my desk. There are a lot of accessibility options in Yosemite, but I cannot see an option to simply increase the menu/system font size. It seems ridiculous that one can easily increase fonts in safari or other programs with a pinch-out motion, but there are NO possibilities for making menus and system text--which users have to decipher across their day and tasks--more legible. (I could never find this option in Mavericks either, but am surprised not to see it added in Yosemite, with all the smart, beautiful aesthetic changes).
So, how can I increase menu font size?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Emily

  • How to change the default font size in X11?

I was a PC/linux user and have switched to use Mac lately (MBP Snow leopard 10.6.8).
Everything's been running perfectly on Mac so far and I really like it, until I have to run some programs on XQuartz/X11 (XQuart 2.7.0).
The default font size in the Xterm is too small. And I hate it that I have to change it everytime i open a new terminal (via vt fonts menu, ctrl+right-mouse click).
Is there a way to change the default font size "permanently" in XQuartz/X11 ??
This may be a stupid question to ask in the developer forum but i cant really solve it.
There's only config. file ~/.Xdefaults they have mentioned so far on Google but i really cant find it regarding to the directorty.
Thank you very much in advance.

You would be surprised to find out that is not like this, to get your account blocked you really need to do a lot of damage and posts are not removed unless they are illegal, and *always* it needs more than a person to delete something. It is always acceptable to link to external resources as long these resources do provide additional usefull information. Clearly the thread on that side contained much more information than the one here. I observed people linking from there to this forum, but it's not so common, and that's not due to the policy, just because here is more chat and less usefull information.... you will not see endless threads of replies on with "yes, I have the same problem" there.

I wish that Apple would invest more in discussion, and going towards making this more practical.

  • How do I set default font size?

Some programs (most importantly for me, Thunderbird) use a default font size that is too small for my eye comfort. Some (such as Firefox) allow me to change the font size, but Thunderbird does not (though there is a menu item to change font size, which does not work).
I gather that such programs are using a default system font size. So I would like to change this. Some Help articles suggested that I could do this from the Font Panel, but they give no indication where to find the Font Panel. I cannot find it in System Preferences or via the Spotlight.
    I am using OS X 10.4.7
I am computer-literate, but new to the Mac, having had this computer for about a week and a half.
P.S. In Thunderbird -> Preferences -> Fonts there is an option to configure the fonts used by Thunderbird. The settings affect messages, but not the main window with the message list. However, at this point I'd really like to set the system default so all programs that use the system default will be affected.
    Thanks.
    Daniel

    This still does not work.
    I tried all of them.
    Theme Font & Size Changer
    Big Buttons
    Default FullZoom Level
    NoSquint.
It only works for that page of that web site, as soon as you leave you start all over again.
Can't we just say Firefox messed up and needs to revert to the way it used to work without have to do ANYTHING to adjust any sizing.
    This is utterly ridiculous.
It's a web browser for GOD sakes...not the OS. It shouldn't be doing anything but displaying web sites with NO INTERVENTION by the user for each and every page.
Why are programers always looking for ways to take a working product and make it useless???

  • How do i increase the font size on my macbook air

how do i increase the font size on my macbook air

Unfortunately Apple hasn't yet given us a resolution independant OS yet so there are two solutions: 1) poor and 2) sad. You can open System Preferences and select a lower resolution in the Displays tab. The result is a larger font which is slightly fuzzy. Or you can change the default font size or magnification in each program (that allows this). Unfortunately many programs don't allow it.
This problem (and my aging eyes) are why my next Mac notebook will be retina. They scale to other resolutions better than the Air does.

  • How can we increase the font size in Adobe Bridge CC 2014?

How can we increase the font size in Adobe Bridge CC 2014?
We use Windows 7 64bit computers and Dell High Density UltraSharp UP2414Q monitors with a resolution of 3840 x 2160.
Other applications in Adobe CC 2014 work fine with this high resolution (Indesign, Photoshop) but I can't find where to adjust font size in Bridge.
Right now menu items are hardly ledgible.

Same problem.  Bridge is unusable with this micro font and no way to change it.
I would call tech support but I don't feel like being on hold for two hours to talk to someone Adobe pays pennies a day in a loud call center who won't be able to help anyway. Fail.
